Premiere encoding makes computer unworkable

Hi all,
I am running Premiere CS6 and Media Encoder. After upgrading to Mountain Lion it seems that encoding (to H.264) slows down my 2011, MacBook Pro (2.3 ghz, 16GB) to a grinding halt. It seemed to be better in Lion. I am using files from Canon EOS 5D Mark III (heavy HD files) but it is the first time I cannot use any other program without experiencing frustration while encoding.
Is there any way of reducing the power the Mac uses for encoding so I can go online and such meanwhile? Or is it just something I have to live with?
I am encoding from HD to 640X360 so I know it takes some power.
Cheers...

Yeah, but as I do most of my editing on location (interviews and such) than that is not really an option

  • Adobe Encoder CS6 fails to encode following computer restart/shut down

To make a long story short, I want to be able to queue up videos using an external hard drive as the video source then be able to shut down my computer, start it up at a later time, and then encode the videos.
I was able to successfuly do this using Adobe Premiere/Encoder CC, but with CS6 the ecoding fails if my computer has been shut down or restarted before I begin the encoding.

  • How can I install Premiere in another computer

How can I install Premiere in another computer, if my main computer does not work.  The service is paying monthly.

As far as I have understood it you can install PP on as many computers as you like, but only two can be active at the same time. So if you have installed it on just one computer you should have no problems installing it on a second one. If you want to install it on a third, you would have to deactivate one of the other previous installations to get it to run.

  • Premiere / Encoder CC freezing during encode

Hi, stuck rendering my project. My problem is similar to this description:
When I render via encoder, it renders the first couple of seconds, then freezes. I have tried to render directly from premiere with no luck, it just sits at 0%, it doesn't even begin. I have tried to relink all media, with no result. When I open the project, premiere pro becomes slow, and only show some of the thumbnails in the project panel. The source monitor remains blank, the program monitor shows "pending media".
I have similar project, and they all open and render just fine. Whats going on here?
    Im on windows 7 pro.

I had same issue but more than 10 years ago with Premiere 6.5
It is possibly that project is corrupt or one (or more) of the imported files are corrupt. Did you try to remove that file where Premiere always stop rendering (if it is acceptable)? Or try to reimport that specific file. Also you can try to convert that file (if it is just one file that causing your problem) with some other App (e.g. .avi to .mpg) and than import that converted file and replace it in project.
When I had that similar problem I found 3 solutions. All solutions didn't work every time. The trick was to fool Premiere. First one was to move files to another place on the HDD and relink it (or even on another physical HDD). It solves my problem sometimes. Second one was to use cut tool and cut every long clip into smaller parts in timeline. That way Premiere do rendering slower (as I could see) and everything was OK. That solutions also not worked every time. Third way was to render whole project from parts - e.g. if I had 20 min. project, I render first 5 mins, then second 5 mins... Then I make new project from that rendered files and render it at once. That also not always solved the problem. Sometimes it was the problem with the project and I must do everything from beginning... As i found somewhere (that  days) all that (and few other) problems I had because of Matrox RT 2500 video card and Matrox Millennium G550 graphic card. There was special strict procedure of installation of that components and Premiere 6.5 If you have not done all the correct order, then you had to do all over again.
When I moved to Premiere Pro (and later) I never had that problem again.

  • Why Adobe media Encoder makes 3 files when export in MPEG2 ?

I try to compress a sequence using File-Export-Adobe Media Encoder -MPEG2-DVD. I want to reduce the size of my sequence (normaly exported as .AVI file) When done, I have 3 files: 1) .m2v 2) .Wav 3) .mcses
What are theses files ? Should I use something else to reduce the size of my files to fit on a 4.7G DVD...?
    Thanks !
    Franc St-Louis

The .m2v file contains the MPEG-2 video.
The .wav file contains the PCM (uncompressed) audio.
The .mcses file contains information about chapter markers.
Encore will use the MPEG-2 file "as is" and by default compress the PCM audio to Dolby Digital (AC3).
There are basically two options to make your project fit on a DVD:
Export a DV AVI file from Premiere and let Encore decide on the best compression settings "on automatic".
Do a bit budget calculation and use the bit rate numbers found in Premiere's Media Encoder.
To assist you with the bit budget you can use one of these online calculators:
    Bitrate Calculator
    CustomFlix Bit Budget Calculator
    Chris Linke Bit Budget Calculator
    DVD-HQ Bitrate & GOP calculator

  • Itunes 5 makes computer non-usable - crashes, can't  boot

I just want to add myself to the list of people out there saying that itunes 5 has seriously damaged the entire system. Other posters are blaming the users for having system problems before install of itunes 5, but I am another person with a rock-solid 17" powerbook that does not now function after itunes 5.
my computer just went black about a week ago, and since then it won't even boot, sometimes boots to the gray screen before blacking out. I've reset PRAM, the PMU, run disk utility (no repairs needed), run fsck, all multiple times. I've had it boot all the way once out of 40-50 times. THen, after 5 minutes, it got the grey, black screen of death, and I had to hard restart. I don't even get to the startup chime, 45 out of 50 times of attempted starts. My $2000 computer is useless.
Its certainly been hard to make my freelance deadlines with no computer and no access to my data. I can't even boot in firewire mode.
After iPhoto 5 making all of my wedding pictures bright red (that was incredibly sad and disappointing), and now the powerbook being unworkable for my hoenymoon, well, lets say I think Apple needs to fire some people, big time.
(footnote for context is that my cousins who work at microsoft and became millionares at the age of 25 advise everyone to buy Mac - just think how tough it would be to have a windows machine, given how bad this is!)

I'm having the exact same problem, which is causing similarly excrutiating difficulties for me, since I am both working freelance online and trying to apply to graduate school. On top of that, I am currently living in China, do not know where or how to get my mac repaired here, especially not by someone who knows English, and my OS CD is in New York. Any suggestions??!?!? Please help me.

  • When reading an encoder the computer performance suffers with program duration.

Im working with a PCTIO-10 counter/timer card with Atmel AM9513A microcontrollers and a LAB-PC-1200AI Card. The Computer Im using is an older Compaq proliant 600 MHZ server running NT and Labview 5.1
The objective of our application is to create a VI that controls a photometric lab. We swing a boom with a photocell attached to the end through a light source and collect intensity measurements along the way. We use the 1200AI card to activate a solenoid that controls direction of the boom and the TIO card is used to count encoder pulses and monitor boom location. The application then collects intensity measurements at specified boom angles. This is where we start to have problems The application works, as it should, monitoring boom location and collecting data at the correct angles: 10 deg, 20 deg, 30 deg, etc I wrote the application to execute in a do while loop constantly reading the TIO card and generating a boom angle. I then poke the results into a shift register. As soon as I read the correct angles from the shift register I collect the photocell data. The problem comes in after the program executes for a few minutes. The machine performance degrades as execution time elapses until ultimately the machine starts to miss pulses. Let me clarify this statement: the card/machine seem to keep track of all pulses emitted by the encoder BUT the machine cant get back to read the cards register before it misses the required angles. E.g. I want to collect data at 50 deg boom angle. The register is counting the pulses but the computer reads the register in a loop as: 46, 46, 46, 46, 47, 47, 47, 48, 48, 51, 51, 52, 52, etc The machine is counting the encoder pulses but the software cant seem to get back to the register in time to pick up on the correct angles. This problem is amplified as program execution time elapses until the machine starts to miss a series of numbers and also has trouble with monitor redraws/updates. The Windows NT task manager shows no memory leaking. Ive also tried to add small wait durations in the program to allow Windows time to multitask and do maintenance. It didnt help. I then scraped the original program and wrote a new one that starts and stops the counters when not needed for short periods. I also reset the registers at the top and bottom of the boom stroke in an effort to free up the processor and/or memory, but the problem persists. Im either writing a poor program or I need a way to dedicate to processor to this task. Any input will be appreciated.

It's difficult to pinpoint without any code posted. However, a sluggishness that increases with run time can be a symptom of a program that keeps resizing and/or copying fairly big arrays. Can you post some of the code?
Also, there may be a different approach that will let you hardware-capture excess data, then extract the subset of interest in a post-processing step. This way you can be sure not to miss any points.
The idea would be to perform a buffered analog acquisition of your photocell(s), using the encoder pulses as an external scan clock. There are shipping examples that show how to do such things, and I think the Lab-PC-1200AI should support them.
You could set up an acquisition buffer a bit bigger than the # of encoder pul
ses in your boom's range of travel. After collecting one scan for each encoder position, you can then extract data at or around the positions of particular interest. Just note that the data at index i corresponds to your previous method's position i+1.

  • Need information on how to upgrade from 10.5.8 to make computer compatable to iphone upgrade of 11.5.1

hi everyone:  I require some information on how to upgrade from 10.5.8 to make my mackbook pro compatable
with the iphone upgrade. Please note that I have gone thru the upgrades on this computer and it tells me there are
no new ones available...... I need to get my upgrade past the 11.5.1 level.....so do I need to purchase a new
upgrade program....and if so which one...as I have been thru the apple store and so far as i can tell
the ones that are listed such as maverik, lion and snow lepard are not high enough.
To anyone who replies, thankyou so much for taking the time to help me.  It is truely appreciated.

11.1.5 is likely to be the version of iTunes you are being asked to run, not the version of Mac OS X.
To get a higher version of iTunes, you likely have to upgrade Mac OS X. All Roads lead through the 10.6 Upgrade, available as a physical DVD only, from the Apple Online store for about US$20:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
This is one of the most benign Upgrades Apple has ever issued. The size of the Operating System gets smaller, performance is slightly faster, and very few Applications are left behind. If you have some older PowerPC Applications, you may need to ask to install the Optional Rosetta emulator for PowerPC code when you install.
Once your 10.6 install is fully Updated to 10.6.8 using Software Update, the Mac App Store will appear, and future upgrades (if needed) will be handled through variations of online purchases.

  • Connecting iphone makes computer screen go blank

I've had my iPhone for a few months. Initial syncing worked fine. As soon as I tried to sync it a second time with upgrades, new messages, new apps etc already on the iPhone, it didn't acknowledge the iPhone in iTunes, and made the computer screen go black. It does this every time I connect the iPhone.
Went to an Apple sales place, who restored the phone to factory settings, went home, synced fine. Again, next time I tried with all new stuff on the phone already, blank screen.
Weird thing is, my iPod touch works fine on both this and another computer. iPhone has this issue on one computer (where all my photos and other stuff is) but not the other. It's almost like my Toshiba computer and iPhone hate each other!
Any ideas on how to fix this? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, and also stopping and restarting the ADMS(?)....

    Hello mcroland,
What make / model computer are we working with? What operating system?
Anytime I hear of a computer screen going blank after running for an extended period of time my first thought is going to be heat.
Open up your system and check it and ensure all fans are working properly and it is cleaned out. Remove all dust bunnies and thoroughly clean the inside of the computer with compressed air.
Especially check any fans that may be located on or around the video card.

  • Premiere Pro makes it hard to use keyboard shortcuts

I'm using CC 2014, but this has been a problem for many versions: as soon as I do almost anything, the timeline loses focus, so the editing shortcuts don't work, and the machine only beeps when I press a key combination. I have to remember to keep pressing Esc to return the focus to the timeline. I'm wearing out the Esc key. This gets more annoying the more I use it.
And this problem occurs only on my Windows machine, not on my Mac.
Does anyone know of a solution? Or should I just submit a bug report?

This happens on multiple Windows machines, and running Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 (maybe earlier versions too, I don't recall). And it's happened with PPro 6, CC and CC 2014 (again, maybe earlier versions, but I don't recall).
Frequent example: I press Ctrl + K in two locations to place two cuts, then Shift + Delete to do a ripple delete. Working OK, so far. Then I press H for the Hand tool, scroll a little down the timeline to the next place I want to edit, maybe Alt + roll the mouse wheel to zoom. At this point, if I press Ctrl + K to make another cut, the computer just beeps because the timeline doesn't have the focus. So I press Esc, and then I'm able to press Ctrl + K to make the next cut.
Deleting preferences, etc., makes no difference, and I haven't seen this behavior in any other application.

  • Need to deactivate Premiere on a computer

    Hello,
I had Adobe Premiere CS3 installed and activated on two computers. I mainly used one computer and forgot about it being installed on the second one. I then tried to install it on a new computer that I just purchased but the activation failed because it was already activated on the two previous ones.
So I uninstalled Premiere on one of the two older computers but didn't de-activate it (I thought that would happen when I did the uninstall). So now I still can't install it on my new computer because it still says I have too many activations. Apparently it never got de-activated when I did the uninstall.
So how do I de-activate my other computer's copy (which it's no longer installed)?
    Thanks.
    Mike

OK, you have three computers, A, B & C. You had PrPro installed and Activated on A & B. You wanted to install and Activate it on computer C, but can only have two instances of that one license Activated.
You uninstalled, without de-Activation on computer A, but still have it (where you want it) on computer B. Without the de-Activation of computer A's license, you still cannot install and Activate on compuer C.
The course of action would be to reinstall it on computer A, and confirm the Activation, which still shows on that computer and on Adobe's records. Once done, de-Activate it officially and then uninstall it. This frees up one instance of that license. Once done, install on computer C and Activate the now remaining license. Yes, it's an extra reinstall, check Activation, de-Activate and uninstall, but that is the only way around it, unless TS can de-Activate the license on computer A, without reinstalling. Only they can help you there.
Personally, I'd just bite-the-bullet and do the reinsatall, de-Activate, uninstall.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Installing Premiere Pro in computer lab

    Hi,
This is a question about installing Premiere Pro in multiple computers. Let me know if there's a better sub-forum to post this question.
We have a site license of Premiere Pro 5.5 and we are trying to install it in several computer labs. We installed and tested Premiere Pro 5.5 on a base computer, and then took an image of that system. Then we re-imaged our computers using that image. However, once the computers were imaged, Premiere Pro was missing some codecs, mostly the AVCHD ones.
At first we thought it was that known issue where an update would revert the copy of Premiere Pro to a trial, but the point is that the software works well on our base computer: it's only when the image is deployed that the codecs disappear. We are speculating that, since the software was installed on one specific computer, but the image is being deployed to a different one, Premiere Pro disables the codecs as they were not activated on the target system originally.
We are trying to avoid having to go individually to each computer and deactivate/reactivate the software, or having to install the program individually on each computer.
If you have been successfull in deploying Premiere Pro 5.5 to multiple computers via an image, a Windows Deployment Server, or some other remote installation solution, we'd love to get some pointers.
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the reference to nLite. We'll explore that tool and see what functionalities it has.
Regarding the missing codecs on deployment, that seems to happen only after Premiere Pro has been deployed to multiple computers. So whether imaging or slipstreaming, we would assume the issue (codecs not being installed on a target computer, i.e., one where the software was not activated originally) would still persist.
Can anyone confirm if porting to another computer and missing proprietary codecs in the process is a known issue?
    Thanks.
