Premiere/Encore User Manuals Any Good?

I've just upgraded from Premiere Elements to Pro CS3 and was wondering if the User Guides included in the box are any good for learning or if I should just shelf them for reference later? If the latter, any book recommendations for learning Pr CS3 and/or Encore CS3?
Note: I'll be taking the 30 day free access to lynda.com as my registration bonus and I already know about the wiki. I just want something that I can browse through while offline that's actually good for learning.
Thanks.

  • Are user manuals available for download for Encore CS5 and Premiere pro

I've been told that there are user manuals for Premiere Pro and Encore CS5, but I've spent considerable time trying to locate where to download them from. I've found then from what appear to be third party entities, but I have trouble trusting many of them. Doesn't Adobe offer them? I've tried searching their website, but come up with nothing. I don't doubt that it is in there somewhere, but they don't exactly manke it easy to find.

  • Any Way to Save a pdf User Manual?

I seem to recall that in previous versions of FCS apps, including Motion, you had the Help option to open (usually in Preview) a pdf User Manual. From there, via the Print dialog, you could do a "Save as PDF", into the folder of your choice.
I often like to have a searchable User Manual which I can access without having to launch the app itself. So I created a special folder into which I would save separate pdf copies of user manuals which had been incorporated into the apps themselves. But in Motion 4, all I'm seeing is an HTML Help Document, and trying to "Save as PDF" via the Print window only seems to let me save the one currently visible page, nothing more.
So -- is there still any way to create a separate, searchable User Manual for Motion (and for the other FCS3 apps), or have even pdf help documents gone the way of those two-ton paper manuals of yesteryear?
    Thanks,

Yeah, the PDF functionality is lost within the FCS3 apps themselves. The Pro Apps team wanted to be able to continually update the Help files, so they were made (exclusively) web-based.
That resulted in a bit of an outcry. Thankfully, the team listened, we have to now visit the Help pages for each app (here's the one for Motion) and open/download from the View as PDF link.

  • Can't open any user manuals in FCS 2 from the help menu.

I just installed FCS 2 and I can't open any of the user manuals in any of FCS 2 apps. from the help menu. They are listed in the resources folder under the content folder so I know that they're there. Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks

Do I feel stupid. Just had an epiphany that it might be due to Adobe Reader and it was. Had to update to 9. Sorry for the post.

  • Any good Power Shell command or script to see connected users in real time for Lync 2013

Are there any good Power Shell commands or scripts that can tell you how many users are connected to a pool in real time so you can evaluate the current load. I have 3 FE servers in a single pool. We just started deploying the lync client to the users and
were curious as to how many are actually connected. I saw a number of home made scripts but really didn't care for any of them. I just want to find out how many users that are actually connected to the pool at a particular moment so we can see how many users

  • Are there any advanced user manual for Application Builder?

    Hi,
I want to find Application Builder user manual that can teach me how to set the Install Settings. For example, I want to know what libraries will be included in the installer if I enable Serial Port Support and Port I/O Support. What's the function of Enable ActiveX server in Application Settings? The Application Builder user guide I found which is a 8 pages installation guide with release note. I hope some NI engineers can answer this question. Thanks.
    Best regards
    Bill

For information about specific options in the Application Builder, click the Help button in the Build Application or Shared Library dialog box. In the Advanced Installer Settings dialog box, you also can click the Help button to display a topic with information about each option in the dialog box. Here are the descriptions of the two support options you mentioned:
Serial Port Support -- Installs the serial portion of NI-VISA needed for applications that access serial instruments or serial port.
Port I/O Support -- Installs the necessary support files for accessing parallel ports and for using the In Port and Out Port VIs.
The description of the "Enable ActiveX server" checkbox is: "Enables the ActiveX server for the application so it c
an respond to requests from ActiveX clients."
These descriptions also have links to more information about the objects mentioned, such as the In Port and Out Port VIs and the ActiveX server.
If this information is insufficient, please email [email protected] with your feedback so we can improve the help topics.

  • Premier Elements 11 User Manual

Is there a user manual available for Premier Elements 11?
I have already downloaded the Help and Tutorials PDF file, which does give some help but not enough for someone who has not used Premier Elements before.
I am looking for a proper user manual that includes an index and contains all the instructions to operate the software. Some people may call this a reference manual. This makes it easy to find how to do things with the software when you are an inexperienced user.
I know it is the fashion these days not to include a printed user manual with software, but at least there should be a PDF version included on the software disks or available on the support site.
Maybe Adobe think that Premier Elements 11 does not require a user manual because it is supposed (!!!!) to be easy to operate. Sorry I totally disagree and what is available on the help website is not sufficient.
    Regards
    Peter

    Peter,
I agree that with Steve's book in print (there is at least one more, that is good, though I do not know if the Missing Manual series has been updated for PrE 11), it would seem like a great promotion on Adobe's part.
However, Adobe has moved completely away from any printed manuals, and have opted for an online Help system. The good point of such a delivery is that Adobe can instantly make changes to the Help file, when perhaps an update changes things, or errors are discovered. Once, way back in the dark ages of personal computers, I had WordPerfect 1.0.x (by WordPerfect, Orem, UT). It had a lovely ring-bound manual. About once per quarter, WordPerfect sent me new pages for it, to either replace existing ones, or add to the manual, as changes/corrections were necessary. There was no Internet then, or even FAX machines. Things moved by "snail-mail," so were slow. Still, the manual is beautifully printed (all screen-caps, and illustrations) are done with a gloss varnish, that made them look almost 3D. Besides that one, I still have all of my manuals for Photoshop, Illustrator, PageMaker, Premiere Pro, After Effects, InDesign, and the rest. I just love books.
I find that Help files have two limitations. First, the user needs to know the exact term, when Searching, and a new user will be ill-equipped to know those terms, and it really takes two computers to have the Program fully opened, with the Help file displayed - even my dual 21" monitors get crowded, and there is a lot of clicking on various windows, to do the work, while reading the Help file. Still, the online Help is the way of the future, and almost everyone is doing similar. Guess that it's time for me to get with it, and move into 2013?
I have gifted several copies of PrE, and before I knew of Steve's books, I included the Missing Manual book, and then Steve's books, with the gift. The recipients really appreciated the "manuals," along with the programs.
Now, one learning resource, that has not been mentioned in this thread, is this very forum. Back when I started, there were no forums, as there was not then an Internet. It took several generations of programs, before there were any news groups on the NNTP - those did not come about for a couple of years. Along with those copies of PrE, I also put the URL for this forum in the card, and urge the recipients to stop by for a good read, or with any problems. When it comes to forum support, Adobe does one of the better jobs, and we greatly appreciate their efforts to keep these forums going, and as powerful, as they are.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I want to check all functions of PCI 6534.I have read the user manual..I have some memory related questions. Please help me for that.

I want to check all functions of PCI 6534.I have read the user manual..I have some memory related questions. Please help me for that.
1.)If i am using the continuous output mode.and the size of generated data is less than 32 MB.If i want to preload the memory, what should i do?I want that first of all i load all my data to onboard memory & then i want to make start the transfer between 6534 & peripheral. Is it possible? As per me it should be.Plz tell me how should i do this?I think that in normal procedure the transfer between 6534-peripheral & outputting data from pc buffer to onboard memory works parallely. But i don't want this.Is it poss
    ible?
(2).Similarly in finite input operation(pattern I/O) is it possible to preload the memory and then i read it?Because i think that the PC memory will be loaded automatically when 6534 acquires the data and then when we use DIO read vi the pc buffer data will be transferred to application buffer. If this is true,i do not want this.Is it possible?
    (3) One more question is there if i am using normal operation onboard memory will be used bydefault right? Now if i want to use DMA and if i have data of 512 bytes to acquire. How will it work and how should i do it?Please tell me the sequence of operations. As per my knowledge in normal DMA operation we have 32 Bytes FIFO is there so after acquisition of 32 bytes only i can read it.How it will known to me that 32 bytes acquisition is complete?Next,If i want to acquire each byte separately using DMA interrupts what should i do?Provide me the name of sourse from which i can get details about onboard memory & DMA process of 6534 specifically
(4).In 6534 pattern Input mode,if i want to but only 10 bits of data.and i don't want to waste any data line what should i do?

    Hi Vishal,
I'll try to answer your questions as best I can.
    1) It is definitely possible to preload data to the 32MB memory (per group) and start the acquisition after you have preloaded the memory. There are example programs on ni.com/support under Example Code for pattern generation and the 6534 that demonstrate which functions to use for this. Also, if your PC memory buffer is less than 32MB, it will automatically be loaded to the card. If you are in continuous mode however, you can choose to loop using the on-board memory or you can constantly be reading the PC memory buffer as you update it with your application environment.
    2) Yes, your data will automatically be loaded into the card's onboard memory. It will however be transferred as quickly as possible to the DMA FIFO on the card and then transferred to the PC memory buffer through DMA. It is not going to wait until the whole onboard memory is filled before it transfers. It will transfer throughout the acquisition process.
    3) Vishal, searching the example programs will give you many of the details of programming this type of application. I don't know you application software so I can't give you the exact functions but it is easiest to look at the examples on the net (or the shipping examples with your software). Now if you are acquiring 512 bytes of data, you will start to fill your onboard memory and at the same time, data will be sent to the DMA FIFO. When the FIFO is ready to send data to the PC memory buffer, it will (the exact algorithm is dependent on many things regarding how large the DMA packet is etc.).
    4) If I understand you correctly, you want to know if you waste the other 6 bits if you only need to acquire on 10 lines. The answer to this is Yes. Although you are only acquiring 10 bits, it is acquired as a complete word (16bits) and packed and sent using DMA. You application software (NI-DAQ driver) will filter out the last 6 bits of non-data.
Hope that answers your questions. Once again, the example code on the NI site is a great place to start this type of project. Have a good day.

  • Bridge/Prelude/Premiere/Encore, Arrrgh! Workflow/Asset Managment overload! Help.

I've been viewing a tutorial series in addition to some random one's on the web, mostly covering functionality, but what isn't clear to me (yet) has to do with asset management and workflow. I know enough to understand that these two areas are the most important aspects of the whole process; without organized asset management and an orderly, systematized, hierarchical approach to accomplishing tasks the creative side of things will suffer dramatically at the worst time.
Regarding asset management, I have three separate drives for for audio, video, and stills. All the files reside in their original locations except for video files that I originally had stored on my stills drive. These video files were copied to my video drive into the Adobe Folder> Premiere Projects Folder> Project Name Folder. In addition, I have a folder on the video drive called "Raw Footage" that I'm using for random footage unrelated to any project; sort of a personal stock footage resource.
As a practice project for the tutorial series I'm using assets from a 45 day Rail Pass tour I took a few years ago. Assets include SDDV. m2ts, and mov, files with different sample rates, in addition to jpg and psd files.
Where would the following programs come into play and at what point in the workflow does the transition from one to the other begin and/or overlap?
    Bridge
    Prelude
    Premiere
    Encore
Where does Bridge come into play and when?
There are folders with m2ts files on my stills drive that I've copied and pasted to my video drive. Should I have used Prelude to ingest and "Transfer Clips To Destination" ("destination" being my video drive)? Should I have transcoded to a less resource hungry format and, if so, does Prelude create an EDL that can be used to conform the final edit replacing the low rex clips files the the original higher rez files?
I know I have to capture SDDV as DV (not HDV) with Premiere but what else do I need to know about such capture? As far as actual editing goes the tutorials are covering a lot of that.
Eventually I'll use Encore to author a proper DVD that is compatible with every DVD or Blu-ray player. Right?
I guess the question could be, "What is yout multi asset workflow?"
I feel like such a noob.
    Thanks.

    Michael,
I thought that might be the case. Sigh!
Well, as far as I can tell, if I were you, I would offer it with an alI I-Frame option first. That would probably be the easiest to implement cleanly. Those who can shoot that way would probably start shooting that way. Me included.
Then, take the AVCHD from a few of the most popular cameras, Canon, Nikon and of course, the Panasonic DMC-GH3 (my camera) and whatever video cameras are popular right now. Back up to the beginning of the long GOP and finish at the end of the long GOP. There is no need to get too specific with frames for subclips. After all, anyone who does not leave handles on their subclips while ingesting gets what they deserve anyway. In fact, there should be an option to always add one second of handles to every subclip. Personally I would leave that on as a default.
As for me, I recently posted a few videos using different codecs for people to download to test them. The links can be found in this forum post along with a short discussion: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1239519?tstart=0
I usually use 50Mb/s 60p using the MOV format, but if I was to shoot anything serious, I would probably shoot 72Mb/s 24p. Keep in mind, that if Adobe made it possible to ingest subclips without transcoding,I would change what I shot to all I-Frame for almost everything, either at 30p or 24p. And if you did it for my 60fps MOV files, I would be ecstatic.
I don't shoot AVCHD but I suppose that so many people do that the moment you gave the feature to all I-Frame shooters, there would be a huge clamor for AVCHD.
In my opinion, this could be a major game changer and everyone who could would start using Prelude without a second thought. Like photographers are flocking to Lightroom 5, this would be the videographers Lightroom. Reelroom? Naw. Prelude is a good enough name.

  • End User Manual

    Hi SAP Gurus,

    Hi Kapil,
You can use Info Pack for the documentation in that you just key in the data for the various transation and system capture all the screen shots as well as Path T codes and Settings to be entered it is very good tool.
Once you have that you can start from SPRO with Enterprise structure and all modules seprately and can prepare the documents.
Power Users are Super Users who have the authorisation for Modify, Update and Input and some timeCustomise also.
    Cheers!!

Every customisation is diffrent from another so a standard template will not be of any help.

  • Any good APEX training class in NJ?

    Hi,
I'm a newbie to APEX. I'm at the point that I think I could use some serious APEX training.
what's your thought on APEX training? Did you folks just pick it up by yourself? How? BTW, the thousands of pages of User Manual/Advanced Tutorial do NOT help much, sometimes, they could be even confusing.
Any pointer to any good APEX training classes in NJ is appreciated. For some reason, APEX training in NJ is not on Oracle University's schedule. Or any other alternative? via video?
    Thanks much,
    Helen

I took the first two courses on APEX from DBCON (http://www.dbcon.com/courses.html). It's an online course which I'm not a huge fan of normally, but these two courses were helpful for me. The courses also included the "Pro Oracle Application Express" book which has also been helpful for me:

  • Provide Feedback for the DVD Studio Pro User Manual and Onscreen Help Here

The Apple documentation team for professional video applications would like to know what you think about the DVD Studio Pro 4 Help documentation (available in the Help menu):

I'm working with DVSP for 4 months, so everytime I don't know how to do something I use the documentation. As the times passes I almost don't need it so often.
    • How do you find what you're looking for in DVD

PDF Search, but I think is not the best way to search because it shows too much useless results.

It is powerful and easy to use.
    • What is missing?
A way of editing the DVD Project Source Code. Let me explain: in some big projects I just need to change the Jump from "button_1" to "button_2", and to do that I need to find the button under my menus and choose it from a list. If I can just type "2" instead of "1" it will be faster and error-free.
Advancing in this idea, if I can open the entire link list as a Source Code in TextEdit, I can see all the buttons and link all of them without seeking for each on menus.
Today the Connections Tab helps a lot, but I still need to find the button un the menus. With 5 or 4 menus is easy, but sometimes I have 50...

feature/concept to grasp in DVD Studio Pro?
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had
with the DVD Studio Pro Help documentation?
