Premiere.exe process continues to run

Hi All,
I have experienced what I think is a bug in PPro CS5 on Win7. The application works great, but the exe process continues to run after I close the application. The process uses about 26% CPU, and if I then launch PPro and close it again, another exe process continues to run and the CPU usage is doubled. The orphan processes never quit by themselves, I have to manually kill them, nor does the CPU usage increase. The processes just continue to run. The behavior also occurs in Soundbooth CS5, but no other CS5 applications as far as I can tell. Anyone else have this issue?
Win 7 Pro 64 bit
Quad Core
8 Gigs RAM
Thanks,
Danny Biando

In another thread on this subject, a user indicated he did some maintenance work to his system, after which the process no longer continued to run. One of the things he did was upgrade the video driver to the latest release, 197.45. I did that this morning and problem solved. The release notes for this driver update indicate some changes to be more compatible with Premiere CS5. I also noticed that the CPU usage on startup and when the application is idling is less than before.

  • When I exit Firefox, the firefox.exe process continues to run. I cannot re-launch Firefox unless I first stop the firefox.exe process using Task Manager. How do I fix this problem?

    I am running WinXP Pro, SP3. I uninstalled and re-installed Firefox and the problem didn't go away. This problem started about 2 months ago. Firefox always worked fine before that. This happens very frequently -- If I have been using Firefox previously, and I closed the program, when I try to re-launch it, about 50% of the time, I need to use Task Manager to stop a persistently running firefox.exe process.

  • EXCEL.EXE process is keep running even after closing all the handles

    I am using Excel Report Instrument functions  for creating excel application and sheet,workbook after reading/writing in to excel file am closing all the handles using CA_DiscardObjHandle (handle);     even after file is getting closed m checking it in TaskManager then one EXCEl.EXE process is keep running there,pls let me know how to deal with this....
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    A Kumar:
    Have you tried running the example program excelreportdemo.prj that ships with CVI?  It ends the excel process by discarding multiple handles, and it works even if you're editing a cell or have an Excel dialog open, etc.  Try running this without modification and verify that the excel process is closed when you quit the CVI app.
    Here's the Quit function from excelreportdemo.  It checks for and closes handles for the worksheet, chart, workbook, and excel application.
    int CVICALLBACK Quit (int panel, int control, int event,
            void *callbackData, int eventData1, int eventData2)
        switch (event)
            case EVENT_COMMIT:
                if (worksheetHandle)
                    CA_DiscardObjHandle(worksheetHandle);
                if (chartHandle)
                    CA_DiscardObjHandle(chartHandle);
                if (workbookHandle)
                    ExcelRpt_WorkbookClose(workbookHandle, 0);
                    CA_DiscardObjHandle(workbookHandle);
                if (applicationHandle)
                    ExcelRpt_ApplicationQuit(applicationHandle);
                    CA_DiscardObjHandle(applicationHandle);

  • User stops transaction in Bex, process continues to run on server

    We have an issue where users want to kill a long running Bex query, and they use the stop transaction in Bex.
    This kills the front end, but the query continues to run
    on the server.  Eventually, the process has to be killed at the OS level.
    Our environment is BW 3.5, os as 400, db db2.

    As you've seen from the replies, this is a known issue, and can be quite frustrating from a support point of view. We have been asked on several projects to come up with a solution to this, especially as this problem is highlighted when running reports from the portal environment.
    In the portal environment we have found users will execute a report, and if that takes too long, simply click on the next report. This of course doesn't stop the backend processes, as can be witnessed in SM50.
    What we have managed to do is write a BSP which analyses the SM50 log, and returns all jobs being run by the current user. The user is then able to select one of those jobs, and end that particular process. One of our ABAP support developers debugged the processes in SM50, and found the relevant code to stop a process, which we incorporated into the BSP.
    The BSP is published as an iview which gets displayed below the dynamic navigation panel, and now users are able to stop their own long running processes
    Cheers,
    Andrew

  • Firefox process occasionally continues to run after closing browser in XP Pro 64 and uses 50% CPU

    Every once in awhile after closing Firefox 3.6.13 the process continues to run. The way I discover this is my CPU temperature monitor is increasing from 36C to 50C, so I open the Task Manger and see that it is using 50% of the CPU, slowing down the computer. I am running XP Professional 64 bit SP2 with all the latest updates on an Intel E8400 3.0GHz overclocked to 3.6GHz and 4GB dual channel DDR2-1066 at 800MHz. This happens only occasionally, maybe once or twice a month. I just end the task and the temperature of the CPU drops and everything is normal again.

    Norton IPS is apparently a known issue being mentioned in the KB articles:
    *[[firefox will not start]]
    * [[firefox crashes when you open it]]
    * I also found an earlier post on the Norton site http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-IPS-1-0-Addon-for-FireFox/m-p/25425#M8494 but I am not sure this is still considered a problem.
    What exactly is this IPS extension. I am currently using XPs with Norton's NIS (version 18.6 - it is a paid for subscription). I do have Intrusion Prevention active in NIS but I see no specific extension or program IPS. Is this some optional additional software?
    I did find an explanation but from 2009
    * http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Protection-Blog/Intrusion-Prevention-System-IPS-Your-first-line-of-defense/ba-p/124400
    I am NOT using the Norton Toolbar etc. is it these components that are causing the problem i.e safe search etc.
    I am not having problems with firefox hanging or continuing, despite using NIS.
    There is a bug on this https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=548945 but that does not seem to have got very far in confirming or resolving the issue. I imagine Norton have a very large userbase and it seems unlikely that the basic NIS is itself incompatible with Firefox.

  • Two java.exe processes running in the Task Manager in Windows XP

    I tried to find the best possible place to post this and after spending about 20 minutes searching for an appropriate forum starting from java.com I ended up here. So forgive me if the is a wrong place and if there?s a more appropriate place for my question, please provide a pointer to it.
    I don't know much about java and what it does but as the title says when I open the Task manager there are two java.exe processes running at the same time with about 20 000 k each.
    One of the processes is coming from:
    C:\Program Files\Alias\Maya6.5\docs\jre\bin\java.exe
    and the other from:
    C:\Program Files\Alias\Maya7.0\docs\jre\bin\java.exe
    in addition to that a jusched.exe process is also running coming from
    C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10\bin\jusched.exe
    I rarely open the Maya 6.5 and 7 documentations but the two java.exe process are running all the time and I would like to stop them running when I don?t need them but I don?t know how.
    I can't end these processes from the Task Manager; they reappear immediately after I end them.
    Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

  • Itunes.exe process will not end

    Hi all!
    I love the ITunes interface, but I'm running into problems with the few CD's that ITunes won't import. Once the import "freezes" and won't continue, I try to end ITunes so I can re-open it and start again. The program appears to vanish, but the "itunes.exe" process is still running when I open my task manager/process manager. I am unable to end this process--any ideas on how to do it short of pulling my power cord and restarting?

    Did you see this thread? I'm not suggesting it is the same problem, just that such issues may be more complicated.

    I don't think there's been an update to Encore CS6. I have it temporarily uninstalled from my laptop, so can't confirm what the CS6 build number is. In any event, what version/build are you running? Do you see the same problem with Premiere?
    The original version of this problem showed the same issue with Pr and EN. Others did not report both.

  • Premiere Pro process won't end in Windows 7.

  • What is CharacterMap.exe process?

    When starting FrameMaker 9, a CharacterMap.exe process is started. After a while, this process starts consuming approx. 50% of my CPU. Even after closing FramekMake, the process continues to run. What is this process for?

    Hi Arnis,
    Yeah, I know what explorer.exe is, but I don't understand why it would all of a sudden consume 50% of my CPU after killing the CharacterMap.exe process. It stays at 50% and totally drags down the system.
    I'm running XP and have 4GB of memory. However, I am also running a virtual machine that is a real memory and processor hog. It may have something to do with the problem I'm having.
    Anyway, CharacterMap is disabled. So unless I run into some unicode character issue, I'm happy.

  • Client_ole2 EXCEL.EXE process not killed

    Hi,
    In a webForm, using webutil I open an Excel file with Client_ole2.
    When I close Excel the underlying process is not killed; I can still see an EXCEL.EXE process in my task manager.

  • Opening PDF spawns multiple AcroRd32.exe processes.

    I have a user that when he opens any PDF he'll get 4 AcroRd32.exe process spawned the first time. When that one is closed, 2 of the 4 process end. When another PDF is opened, 2 processes start, but only one ends when the PDF is closed. So after 5 PDFs are opened and closed, 6 AcroRd32.exe processes are still running.
    So far all we've done is reinstalled Adobe Reader XI. Anything you guys know on how to fix it?

    Hi chubbcheese,
    Thank You for posting on the forums. Kindly help with the information listed below.
    1) Operating System
    2) Version of Reader (E.G.11.0.06)
    3) What kind of PDF is it, PDF producer
    Thanks,

  • I have Adobe acrobat prof and the Acrobat.exe*32 file continues to run constantly. Won't close

    Acrobat.exe will not stop running.  Uses all resources and computer is very, very sluggish.  If I close it in task manager - processes, it simply reopens and continues to use all resources.

    Continuing to run with all the resources is not normal. I would try a repair to Acrobat, possibly after a reboot. It may be that Acrobat is waiting for a file it was dealing with to close and something is preventing the closure.

  • I am trying to launch Firefox 9.0.1 on Windows 7 but the application window isnt visible even though there is a firefox.exe process running in task manager.

    I am trying to launch Firefox 9.0.1 on Windows 7 but it isnt working. I try to launch it and the application window does not show. When I look at the task manager and then look at the Applications tab, Firefox isnt listed. If I go to the Processes tab, there is a firefox.exe*32 process listed. Each time I double click the Firefox icon, a new firefox.exe process is spawned but there is never a visible instance of the Firefox application.
    There are no errors in the application logs. I end up just having to kill the processes.
    I tried launching in safe mode by holding down the shift button but the same thing happens.
    Any suggestions on what to try? It has never worked since upgrading from version 8. I tried un-installing and re-installing

    I went through everything mentioned in the link you posed and nothing detailed there resolved the problem.
    The Profile folder didnt exist so I created it. Made sure the perms were good and that it was not read only.
    There are no default folders appearing under the profile folder when I start Firefox.
    I have Firefox installed to my E drive.
    Nothing happens. The process appears in the task manager but no application shows up.
    Cant start it in safe mode, cant run the profile manager.

  • Firefox does not open when clicking on the icon, the firefox.exe process consumes 99 % of the CPU and my computer runs slowly.

    I have been a happy user of Firefox for many years. Around last April first I opened Firefox and was offered an update to v 4.42.0.0 which I accepted. Installation seemingly went well. I forget now exactly what happened but the result has been that ever since April 1 I haven’t been able to open the Firefox browser when clicking on the Firefox icon. My computer now was running very slowly. I tried to uninstall Firefox, but a popup told me I couldn’t because Firefox was in use. This confused me because I couldn’t see it being used. Only now I have found that on Task Manager processes that “firefox.exe” was consuming 99 % of the CPU. After removing firefox.exe by clicking End Process my computer ran better. I uninstalled Firefox I had on my computer and installed Firefox 5.0. Unfortunately I have the same problems: Firefox does not open when clicking on the icon, the firefox.exe process consumes 99 % of the CPU and my computer runs slowly.

    Born2die! Brilliant. I am a desktop clicker and never knew Firefox had a safe mode.
    Thank You!
    I was unable to start in safe mode initially. The second time I disabled all of the Add-Ons and she started up just fine. I enabled them one by one hoping to track down the culprit but the problem seems to have gone away.
    BTW I am running ver. 3.6.8 (in response to cor-el's earlier post) and
    Firefox is in the process of downloading 3.6.10 (which I am starting to think may have been what caused this whole problem to begin with)
    Incidentally, whats up with all of the Java Console Add Ons?
    I have:
    Java Console 6.0.11, Java Console 6.0.13, Java Console 6.0.15
    Java Console 6.0.17, Java Console 6.0.20, and Java Console 6.0.21
    What are they? Do I need them? Can I uninstall them? Is this due to using Open Office?
    Also, .NET Framework 0.0.0 Should I uninstall it?
