Premiere Existing Project Suddenly Running Slow

I'm currently working on a project in premiere that has been running fine up until recently. Now, when trying to edit the video it starts running extremely slow and choppy for no apparent reason.
The project that I'm using is an edited version of another project I have.  I saved it as a different file and started editing it, the first version of the project runs fine while the second is extremely choppy.  It's using all the same video files from the same sources and locations on the harddrive.  I've tried restarting the computer, ran spyware and anti-virus software on the computer and it's clean.  There's no other programs running in the background while I'm editing.  I read something online about the scratch disks and tried changing their location. The video in the program monitor is running back and 1/2 resolution. Also if I try to render effects in the work area it takes an extremely long time and doesn't help the overall quality of how the video plays back during editing. Quite honestly I'm out of ideas at this point.
I'm currently working with Adobe Premiere Pro Cs5.5 Version 5.5.0 (233 (MC: 258762)).  The computer itself is running Windows 7 64bit service pack 1, has an i5 processor and 4 gigs of ram, has a 4.1 for the windows experience index, and has a 600 gig hard drive with 155 gigs still free.
Any advice or ideas on how to make the editing process run smooth again would be greatly appreciated.  It puts a hault to the workflow when you can't tell if an edit looks right because of choppy video.

With Win7-64, the first thing that I would look at would adding RAM. That 4GB is just about enough to run Win7-64, and not much more.
Next, do you have only one physical HDD? If so, I would look into adding at least one more, and place your Projects, media and Scratch Disks onto it. A third HDD would be a good idea too, and then separate your media, from your Project and Scratch Disks.
What are the specs. of your Source Files? If AVCHD, or any other flavor of H.264, then the i5 just might never you really smooth playback.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Premiere pro project suddenly degraded

My 50-minute Premiere Pro project suddenly degraded between work sessions. It contains mixed footage - mov files the smallest and the sequence settings match that - and dv footage.
It looked perfect, but when it was opened to resume work on another day them image quality had degraded badly. When rendered It plays ok but is degraded in pause. Color correction is now impossible.
    I hope you can help.

For starters, you can't perform a proper color correction using the built in monitors.  They are not designed to show you an accurate image, as you're now discovering.  You MUST get the signal off the computer and onto a properly calibrated TV.  This will ensure you're seeing the signal accurately, which is the first step in color correction.  Trying to remove too much red that was put there by an inaccurate display is an exercise in futility.
Having said that, click the wrench under the Program Monitor and make sure Playback Resolution is set to full.

It's very likely that your boot drive is failing. Back up all data immediately and schedule a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • Mac suddenly running slow and freezing frequently after software update

Hi, first post. I have recently wiped my hard drive after my new macbook pro started crashing frequently and suddenly running slow, however, it all seemed fine for a few days until I ran the software update, and after failing because it was unable to "expand", everything started running slowly and freezing left right and center.
This is really grinding my gears, and I have been looking for solutions online for ages now, can anyone here help?

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple Care and get a case number.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - You have the standard one year Apple warranty.
#4 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

  • Why is my macbook pro suddenly runs slow on mac os X 10.6.7?

Hello..i'm using Macbook Pro running on Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz with 4 Gb of memory on Mac Os X 10.6.7. I have sufficient amount of harddisk and have already clear my cache and run disk repair. However my laptop still runs slow. It happens suddenly where i the time to boot up my comp becomes longer. Now i even have problems running applications where sometimes it just hangs there. All the programs seems to be running slow. Does not anyone having the same problem? Is it something wrong with 10.6.7?Hope anyone out there can help!Very much appreciated!

Same here, I have a 15" MBP, 2.54 ghz mid 2009 running on 10.6.7. After updating to 10.6.7 my MBP s it is very slow to start, slow when launching apps and slow with typing inside of apps. And Safari is very slow when launching a new tab our navigating to a new URL. I have cleaned font caches, made extra disk space, repaired the volume, repaired permissions all to no avail. I use to show off the MBP to my windows users but now I am just embarrassed a they ask me "what's wrong with you laptop?" I turned off a couple of cpu softwares too such as Boom and carbonite and my cpu is never above 9% with an occasional spike to 50% on some larger software launches which is infrequent for me.  Disk activity seem normal too around 10 - 27% access. Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Project suddenly very slow

    Hello
Using cs6 on windows 7, with program files on the operating ssd and media files on raided drive.
I am working with files with weird formats (ripped from youtube). one of the big completely unresolvable problems ive had is that i cannot export with sound. i plan to record the sound to an external recorder and then resync. not the best solution but haven't come up with anything better (deleting media cache didn't work)
this problem is new, i recently imported a long file, and everything went to hell. everything runs slow, the sound is fine, but the display doesn't work at all, or runs at an extremely poor framerate. all other projects run fine. the files on the project seem to be cursed. i've tried moving just one of the cursed files to a seperate project, and it will make the entire project run super slow. just tried a reinstall of the program and used the latest patch. no luck
    anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks so much

    Hello,
Check to see how much free disk space there is. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data.
Check the hard disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.

Some more information will be very helpful.
Which version of OS X is running?
What happened last before the MacBook became slow?
    Software installed or deleted?
Other major changes on the system?

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 running slow and problematic...

We have Adobe for Teams on 3 computers, all are:
HPZ820, Dual Proc with Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 @ 2.00GHz, 32 GB RAM, Dual Video Cards Quadro 6000 4GB, Windows 7 64 bit with all the latest patches.   All hardware is up to date (especially the Video Cards).
Everything worked on the first release of 2014 but a few weeks ago there was an "update" to Premiere.  Since this update, projects work for a short period.  When you start a new project and add footage, you can scrub the footage and play the footage with no issue.  But the more assets you add, simple Titles, Shapes in the background etc. the slower Premiere Responds during playback.  I have even set my playback resolution to 1/4. These issues are occurring on all 3 computers on our team and now we are way behind on projects.  I opened an new project and imported in H264 footage from our Panasonic Camera.  It played fine on the timeline.  Then I added a title bar across all the footage.  It choked in a few places but did play through.  Then I added our standard logo that goes into all our videos.  Again, it ran even slower in the monitor, eventually freezing on a frame while the audio would continue playing.  At that point you couldn't even scrub to any part of the timeline and have anything show up on the program monitor.  It was the image of the last thing it froze on.  At one point the monitor showed what was on my desktop.    I have even tested starting a new project, adding assets of simple AVI files then tried with WMV files, one by one but no matter what, I get the same results on all three computers.  The weirdest part is I opened up an old project we did last month.  It played once all the way through, the second time I played through, it froze on the first frame but the audio continued to play through.  How can we roll back the update?

    Hi,
Thank you for proving us with the detailed description.
Do you have any third party devise connected for playback like Matrox or AJA?
are the Graphic Drivers up to date for Nvidia?
If yes then can you perform a clean uninstall of all the drivers of Nvidia drivers and then install it again.
Are you facing the same issue on Software Only Mode?
    Thank You
    Arjun

  • IMac Suddenly Running Slow

The last few days my late 2012 iMac is running really slow. I'm running the latest Mavericks version. If I reboot its fine for a while, but then will suddenly slow down for no apparent reason. Looking in Activity Monitor there appears to be plenty of Idle CPU and Memory even while the iMac is crawling along, almost unusable to do even the simplest of tasks. I have 32GB RAM, and 45GB free hard drive storage.
I have been running Backblaze for a couple of months (process bzfilelist) and that hasn't noticablly been slowing things down before. I have taken system details using EtreCheck (see below.) I was importing photos using Aperture at the time these details were taken - Aperture took over an hour to import the photos whereas it would usually have taken 5 mins, and the machine was so slow it was virtually unusable during the process, so something is slowing the machine down drastically.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Your issue may be caused by back blaze. I would disable and uninstall it however first get yourself an external HD and use Time Machine or create a bootable clone using either CCC or SuperDuper. If the performance returns then  you have determined the issue is back blaze.
You can also use Activity Monitor and see what processes may be taking up large percentages of CPU time. You can find AM in Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor.
    Good luck.

  • Why is my mini suddenly running slow

Suddenly my mac mini is running very slow and I constantly get the color wheel

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
Take these steps when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting.

  • MacBook Pro suddenly running slow - need it fixed by tonight

I've had my Pro for over a year now, and usually don't have any problems. However, about a week ago it started running slowly out of nowhere - I can't run one simple task without the colour wheel appearing for several minutes before the command finally goes through.
I have tried everything - deleting old files, uninstalling applications I no longer use, the "purge" command on terminal, restarting several times, and nothing seems to be working.
Is there any solution that can get this fixed for tonight?
(I want to avoid installing a third party program if at all possible.)

There are multiple things you can do in software to look for things that will slowdown your Mac.  If it slowed down and you have not made any software changes or loaded any new software then it might indicate a disk going bad.  You can check for that at Kappy’s suggestions "Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs” at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5635990?tstart=0

  • G4 Quicksilver suddenly runs slow

This is my first ever Post and am fairly new to MAC's so please bear with me.
    The machine is a G4 Quicksilver(Digital Audio) 1GHZ, 1GB ram, 120 HD OS 10.5.5
It Used to run Pretty fast but all of a sudden Really Sloowed down. No programs were added. Did Repair Permissions, Ran Activity Monitor and showed the print out to several other Mac users. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary,Ran Apple Tech Tools, All passed. Did software update to 10.5.6 Ran MacJanitor, Ran Onyx(took about 2 hours)
Downloaded Istat widget and it showed 100% CPU usage when opening up Mozilla or Safari, Ran Rember(took about 5 hours) Showed 1GB ram with 733 free.
OK Nothing seems out of the ordinary?
Maybe needs a fresh load of the OS?
To play it safe I disconnected the 120HD and layed a Maxtor IDE 60GB(jumper set to Master) right on top and used the same cables. Tried to load 10.4 holding down the "C" key. It went fine until I had to pick a destination drive. The 60Gb Maxtor did not show up. Tried 3 other Maxtor, 1 Quantum and 1 Seagate. All IDE and jumper set to Master. None would show up.
Now, What am I doing wrong? I wanted to load a different OS on a different HD to see if it would get it back up to speed. No Luck. Unplugged all cables and reset the PMU button. No Luck. Tried to Zap the PRAM but it would only give me 1 start up chime,
ANY help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for the feedback.  It is the original disk.  Where should I go to get a replacement disk?  Should I buy the same Hitachi disk?  For the backup, should I use Time Machine, I presume?  TIA
Amazon, OWC or any other supplier will sell you a disk.
No need to get the same disk - that model is getting old now & may be difficult to find on sale, newer SATA disks should perform better. Consider an SSD instead especially since you have less than 250 GB of data, they are faster than spinning disks but cost more. Just give yourself some room to grow if you think your disk usage is growing over time.
Time Machine is OK as a backup.
I prefer to make a clone in addition to Time Machine. Clones are bootable when made correctly (SuperDuper, Carbon Copy Cloner or even Disk Utility will do that). There is no reason to erase this disk if it is replaced so get a case or USB to SATA connector & you can read it via USB. Cloning the current boot disk may be a good idea since it is apparently failing.
