Premiere Freezes During Capture

I have a problem with Premiere freezing during capture, consistently at 17 minutes, around 25 seconds.
I am capturing from a Blackmagic Decklink SDI card, 720p 59.94, ProRes 422 HQ.  I've also tried LT.
I am running Premiere 6.0.2 on OS 10.6.8 on a Mac Pro.  My 1TB disk is empty and still has 900GB available after 17min of capturing.
Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem. The diference is im capturing from another device (Sharp Video 8 camera connected to BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt). Premiere doesnt freeze, only the capture window shows freezed image, at some random point, first it was almost like afer 1hr of recording but now is at any time, sometimes after secconds. Sometimes i can still hit stop and the filename window appears so i can save the file, but other times it doesnt. I hit stop and nothing, so i try to hit record again and it starts recording again, i can tell because another file is created, but the previous file is corrupt (i suppose because it isnt closed by premiere).
I have a MacBook Pro Retina 16gb RAM 512 GB SSD, i dont think the computer has no capacity for handling this...

  • FCP HD 4.5 footage freezes during capture

    Hello
    Here we go again!
I just upgraded to Tiger 10.4.9 and QT 7.1.6 and I'm having issues with capturing footage. Basically the video in Log and Capture window freezes for 2-5 seconds periodically while capturing, so it skips and when I playback the captured clip, I get a jumpcut. The tape keeps rolling during capture and camera responds to all the controls. Any ideas on how to fix this glitch? Please advise!
    Thank you.

  • Dropped Frames and "freezing" during capture

I'm having a problem capturing video....it mostly captures although I get "freezes" where the sound continues but the video frames are dropped. If I leave the Quit capture upon dropped frames I can't capture too much as the freezing happens about every 15 to 30 seconds. Any help?
I'm having the same problems on both computers and also when I try to set the hard drive as the scratch as opposed to my external HD.

    Tom,
Same issue here. I've been capturing well with the same setup months ago and have not had this issue until now.
The video "freezing" happens during writing to the hard disk during capture. Using Activity Monitor, you can see 2 second "bursts" of data written to disk every 30 seconds. The video in the capture window freezes during these bursts.
Activity Monitor also shows zero bytes of data being written to disk in between the bursts, but that doesn't seem right, because I know the video is being captured. (You can play it back in FCE)
The freezing can be seen during capture and when playing the captured clip in the viewer. Audio playback is fine.
I tried 3 different Scratch Disk settings with the same results:
    External USB 2.0
    External FW 800
    Internal disk on PowerMac
    Dual 2.0 GHz G5 (Cheese-Grater) PowerMac
    10.4.9

    QT Pro 7.1.5
3.5 GB Ram (100% set for FCE in settings)
FCE Easy Setup for DV Converter
    Canopus ADVC110 converter
Analog VCR input into Canopus (Default settings on Canopus)
Firewire connection from Canopus to Mac
I couldn't find anything in your FCE Editing Workshop book that could help with this either. Everything worked fine a few months ago.

  • Problem with Time Code Freeze during capture

    Hello All,
I used a JVC HD100 to shoot some SD 24pa footage this weekend.
I'm in a jam - I'm trying to capture 24pa footage I shot this weekend with the "advanced removal pulldown" preset in final cut. There's a point in the tape where something strange happens and the timecode freezes - it doesn't advance anymore. The footage is there, but timecode doesn't "count." Final Cut stops capturing. Not sure what happened. I tried to capture the footage using the "non-controllable device" setting and bypass timecode, but final cut refuses to do so. Any suggestions?
Would a solution be to record my footage to another tape? That way, the timecode would be clean for capture? My only concern is that using a deck means i'm recording 24pa footage onto a tape that's 29.97 fps. I don't want to lose the 24pa information while dubbing. Would this be okay?
    cheers,
    Luke

Thanks, Jerry. Okay, the saga continues.
I dubbed my 24pa footage onto another tape with good timecode. I captured this tape, but not without trouble. The advanced removal pulldown setting still doesn't like it, but I can capture it with straight dv ntsc without a problem.
I removed the pulldown with cinema tools, and I'm editing on a 23.98 timeline. I'm also editing with 24p footage that I removed the pulldown from in the same timeline. The two don't look the same. The 24pa footage is jerky. Will the footage look the same when I print to video?
Any idea of what I'm doing wrong?

  • Premiere Freezes After Capture

After capturing footage on an HDV miniDV from my camera the screen pretty much goes white.  It's right after the "Save Captured Clip" box comes up and I name the clip.  It seems to have a problem closing the capture window and loading the new clip into the project box.
Also, after capture and after clicking OK in the "Save Captured Clip" box a window pops up telling me there was a problem with video playback.  But since I was able to hit cancel after the first time it pops up after capturing and continue on to the "Save Captured Clip" box, I figured it wasn't too big of a deal that I not be able to see the footage in the capture screen.
A completely usable clip is successfully saved to my scratch that I can edit.  But I don't want this happening every time I want to capture.
    My Workflow:
    Turn my computer on.
    Connect my camcorder through firewire.
    Turn camcorder to VCR mode.
    Open Premiere.
    Open or start a project.
    Open the capture window.
    Click the record button.
Click the stop button. (a window comes up telling me there was a problem with video playback but it keeps going anyway)
The "Save Captured Clip" box comes up and I name it and click OK (the window telling me there was a problem with video playback comes up again)
    Thanks!

    Try this for HD capture

  • Error decompressing - now AME and Premiere freeze during import

The person who gave me this footage compressed it from an AVI. I'm not very good with codecs and what not, so I hope y'all can point me in the right direction.
Playback is fine, just no import. Other MP4s play and import fine.
Running CS6 and just purchased QuickTime Pro 7 in hopes it would help, but no luck. With the long list of InstalledCodecs (report below), I'm hesitant to disable any because as I said I'm not sure which are what. I would love to just re-install this entire damn OS and Suite and hope for the best - but I really just want to work with this clip already.

  • FCP freezes temporarily during Capture

    Hi
I've been using FCP for almost 5 years now and I never encountered this problem. I usually use log and capture to bring my footage in. Lately, I noticed that on some clips, the footage will freeze during the capture resulting in a skip/jump cut when I play the imported clip later.
I am using FCP HD on a 1.8Ghz Mac G5.
    Could anyone advise please?
    T.

I always set the "on timecode break" setting to "warn after". FCP will capture over timecode(TC) breaks if they are logical and not big. How about your disk configuration, or RAM. Are the disks running full, more than 80% filled? Do you have the proper configuration for the video you are trying to capture? External FW disks will work, but they are not created equal. I would say if you are using external FW800, that you would be all set. Some FW400 have a lower sustained data rate. How about RAM? Running enough, is it after market (some not supported by apple)?

  • Help Please?  Dropped frames during capture!

Hello everyone, I am capturing from a mini DV camera to FC Express HD using a fire wire. I've been doing this for a year and all the sudden I'm getting a "dropped frame during capture" message.
I have read many many discussion boards and tried all of your suggestions...
Using different camera's, different tapes, different firewire cables. I've uninstalled and reinstalled FC EX HD and Quicktime. I tried turning off my external drives and using the internal drive to capture to and created a FC project within the internal drive. I have plenty of space on all drives.
Does anyone have any other ideas? Nothing seems to be working. I appriecate your help!!!!!

maybe you switch off the warn dropped frames during
capture option... after that watch your clips... is
    there any problem still?
I'm really worried now. I turned off the "warn dropped frames" option. After capture, when I playback, I get a warning that there are dropped frames, and then picture freezes. Help! I don't know what to do!

  • No video Preview During Capture

    Here is the scoop:
    Adobe Premeire CS5
    Windows 7 64bit
    Canon XL2
    Capturing DV NOT HDV
Canon standard device control as there is no preset listed for the XL2
Video and audio actually captures fine. I can hear audio during capture but cannot see any video.
I know there is no video preview when capturing HDV but I am capturing DV.
Again this is CS5 NOT 5.5 so .dll fix is not an option
    Thanks in advance.

    FIXED!
    Heres how it went:
Went to Device Manager and let windows look for an updated driver for my Graphics Card (Radeon HD 4200). Windows said the most current driver was installed. It was NOT the most current driver. I went out to ATI and got the most current driver, installed, reboot and OH JOY! I get video in the capture window during preview AND during capture (of DV)!
I also let windows (device manager) look for updated drivers for sound and it said the driver was the most current. Again, it was not. so the moral of the story is...Don't trust Device Manager on current driver versions.
Hope this will help some folks out there.
    Side Note*
Most of us spend hours on forums looking for answers/fixes to particular problems. Most replies I see are either in the vein of "I have that problem too" or " try this, it worked in this OTHER version or try this OTHER software" etc. If you dont have an answer/fix for the problem, dont post.
ON the flip side of that, when posting a problem you want an answer to, Give all the pertinent information in your initial question. " Premiere crashes when I plug up my camera" does NOT suffice! What version of Premiere, what camera, what OS, What kind of connection, etc.

  • Retaining AVI date/time stamp during capture to pre 9.

I have pre 9. When capturing DV from my camcorder, how do I get pre 9 to add the clips  time and date to the avi file properties like it does for jpg's. What I get is the date I captured it to the computer. If I add "date taken" to the properties shown, it remains blank.
I realize the time/frame stamp changes throughout the clip but it should be able to show the initial date/time stamp, for example. I sort these travel clips by oldest date first and need to be able to match them to their itinerary locations. I have a small freeware app that will strip the date/time stamp from the meta data and then I can adjust the time/date in "Organizer" but I have 100's of clips so I'd rather not go that way. I know there app's that will encode the date/time stamp visibly on the image during capture but I don't want that as I make DVD's from the clips. Do you have any advice or suggestions? I have Win 7, 64 bit, 3.2 ghz, 2 core. Thanks, Rob.

    Premiere Elements won't do this.
You'll need a third-party program called DV Date, downloadable from the web.

  • Video preview during capture CS3

Video preview during capture is not working even though settings are at preview video and audio during capture.
The work around seems to be to go ahead record anyway (red button) then it works after I paste the captured audio onto the timeline.
When pasting it to the timeline the video appears. The video appears during subsequent captures. It seems like a bug in CS3. This was not a problem with PP 1.5
    Thanks

  • Video freezes DURING recording

    Hello out there,
I need help! This has happened multiple times and I'm getting sick of it, especially when I really want it to work for a particular occasion.  WHILE I am recording a video through the standard Apple camera app, the phone will just freeze, interrupt and then stop my video recording, and it's getting really annoying.  Does anyone else experience this or have any ideas on a solution?
I have an iPhone 6 Plus, 128gb, current iOS software.
    Thank you,
    Chelsie

Sorry, but update to v5.0638.3.0.1_18-09-06_RM-84 didn't solve this problem!!! My old firmware (3.0546.2.3) works ok (it was the latest fw with correct video capture), my colleague with this old firmware works still ok!! I had my N70 in Nokia service center, but after return, the problem is still here. They said it's normal, but i think it's not normal. On fw 3.0546.2.3 video capture was super, fast, without noisying sounds. Now with 5.0638.3.0.1 it's not possible to normally capture the video on mp4!!!!! The sound is noising, refresh during capture is too slow...
Mo colleague didn't make fw update and his phone works on videocapture still perfect (he has old 3.0546.2.3).
PLEASE, HELP ME, HOW CAN I DOWNGRADE THE FIRMWARE ???????????

  • Elements 10 project slideshow freezes during output

Elements 10 project slideshow freezes during output.  When writing to CD it freezes about 70%.  When output to hard drive is selected, it freezes around 39%.  This is a show I have been working on for a few days.  It has been working but can no longer use the output feature.
    O/S:  Windows 7
I downloaded the trial of Premiere and the show outputs without any problems.  I don't really want to buy another program.  Can anyone think of a solution?

a lot of that didn’t apply and I’m not tech savvy enough to figure the rest out... but. I uninstalled elements and elements premier, I didn’t realize this allows you to de-activate as part of the uninstall process, in e9 I de-activated from the toolbar. I saved my projects folder from my catalog to a disk. When I re-installed everything and loaded my projects I was able to open my slide show. I also “refreshed” my Windows 8 because it was having problems as well.
I attempted to save the slide show as WMV again and again if failed, halfway through playback it froze and kept flickering. This slide show is only 4 minutes long with around 30 photos. I had used a different transition between each photo, I changed all but 2 to fade, this time it worked perfectly. I’m strictly an amateur, learning as I go, I intend to watch tutorials and learn more, but does it say anywhere that using multiple transitions in a slideshow can result in problems? I can’t believe it is my PC, I am using a 2 month old Dell XPS 8500 Special Edition, i7 3rd gen., 32Gb memory, Bluray burner, Radeon 7870 graphics with Windows 8, every driver is up to date.
    Thanks for your assistance. Darryl

  • Turning OFF Audio Playback during capture?

When capturing a tape from my video camera in Premiere Pro, How do I turn off the audio playback while recording?
I want to record the audio and the video, but I don't want to hear the tape's audio playing back through my computer speakers while recording. The technician I spoke to over the phone was extremely unhelpful and suggested I simply mute my computer speakers if I don't want to hear it. What if I want to listen to music or am trying to watch another video file in a different program without having to hear the premiere pro audio blaring over it. Please someone tell me the rude technician I spoke to did not understand clearly what I was asking and if anyone knows how to accomplish this or can shed anymore light on the topic.
I just spent 40 minutes on the phone with an adobe tech support rep who took 40 minutes to correctly understand the issue I was calling for and then informed me that the functionality does not exist within the premiere pro software. Sorry if this comes off as a little edgy, but my tech "support" call was extremely frustrating and now to find that premiere pro wont let you listen to anything in any other program while recording seems a little rediculous.
    Thanks,

It is risky to run other applications while capturing footage.  May lead to dropped frames.  I have found that Premiere is a resource hog and more likely to have this problem than other capture programs.  Not that Premiere is a bad program for capture, but you might find an alternative that provides a better solution for your specific need.
It has been a few years since using Scenalyzer, but I always found that program to be extremely reliable and flexible.  And it has the capability of silencing the audio during capture.  Since you didn't say what format you are capturing I can't say whether Scenalyzer will work for you.  Check it out.
I don't think Harm was being condesending at all.  He is simply warning you about the potential problems your system may face by attempting to multi-task in the manner you describe.  It's up to you to decide if you want to follow the advice you seek here.
    Good luck

  • Flilcker interlaced during capture, Monitor is perfect. CS4

When capturing DV from a normal panasonic dv cam (GS250) into adobe premiere CS4 (4.2.1) i get flicker / interlaced image in the capture window during preview. But when I look at the captured video in the source monitor afterwards, the video image is perfect.Just upgraded from windows xp premire CS2 to windows 7 (64 bit) premiere CS4. Same camera. The problem with flicker during capture is not present when I use VirtualDub for capture in windows 7. Playback of the captured avi file is perfect, both from VirtualDub and Premiere.

To be more precise (this is difficult to explain in english for me):
    1) Connect the camera
    2) press F5 to get the Capture window
    3) I press play button to start viewing whats on the tape in the camera. The video image is now "flickering" of "interlaced".
    4) press G to start reccoring. The video images is still flickering/interlaced
    5) press Escape
    6) save the clip
    7) drag the clip to the time line
    8) replay the very same clip from the timeline, video images is now perfect with no trace of flickering/interlaced.
So it is actually saved allright into the computer. There is nothing wrong with the avi-file. It is just how it looks during capture.
I also tryed to view whats on the tape on the campera in another program called PowerDirector (a program that was pre installed in the coomputer). The video image is perfect in PowerDirector. I also checked the camera in my old computer, also perfect there. Then I tested Adobe OnLocation to see if I could get something similar there. But no, video image also perfect in OnLocation. I alse verifyed that I had set my project to PAL 25 fps 4:3, the same as the camera.
This problem is _only_ in Adobe Premere CS4 (windows 7 64bit) and _only_ in the capture window.
(I also tryed to change the driver for the firevire card. There are 3 built in drivers It didn't help.)
