Premiere freezes when opening Help PDF file

When I click help in the help menu, the PDF opens right away, but then Premiere freezes for about 40 seconds. I suspect it is trying to download some Internet content, but this behavior needs to be fixed. My Mac Pro is connected to an AirPort Extreme via wifi, but this network is not connected to the Internet, it's just for internal file transfers. If I turn off the computer's wifi, this problem does not happen. I get the same symptoms with Premiere, After Effects, an Media Encoder. All of the help PDFs are downloaded already and show current in Adobe Help.

Hi, spookybathtub,
Just confirming that you're running Premiere Pro CS6?
Thanks,
Kirsti

What kind of advertisement?  In Adobe Reader?  Can you post a screenshot of that: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1070933
Regarding the crash, can you try disabling Protected Mode through the registry: download, unzip, then run the registry script https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/49eeb48b-07c5-4502-984c-8a25259914fa

And, did you do that?  The message will no longer occur once you opened Adobe Reader & accept the EULA.

Why does IE crash when opening a pdf file ?

I think this is done by the browser when it is saving a temporary file and there's already a file with that exact name in the temp folder.

  • Why does reader freeze while opening some pdf files and others open instantaneously?

I use pdf files created from CamScanner and shared from DropBox.  In DropBox, many times (over 50%) while opening the PDF the process freezes and the error message is Adobe Reader is not responding.  If you close the program, and re-open the file, it opens fine.  I have saved these files to my computer and the same issue occurs.  The files are 100-500kb, so I do not think size is the issue.  I have reinstalled Reader (11.1.10) and there is no improvement.

This appears to have reduced the time to load a document.  Thanks Jimb      From: Anubha Goel <[email protected]>

  • Adobe Standard 9 Freezes when working in PDF File.

System: Dell T3500 Xeon Processor with XP Pro 64-bit.  6Gb Ram. MS Office 2007. Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird. Quickbooks Pro 2009. Adobe Standard 9. Linksys Network Magic software. Hardwired to Linksys WRT54G2 wireless router.
The only program that I am having trouble with is Acrobat.  It will open just fine.  It will open any PDF file ok.  However, as soon as you put the cursor inside the PDF to scroll, open a different page, rescale, ANYTHING, Acrobat freezes.  It remains frozen for up to 30 seconds.  This happens EVERY time you try to do something to the PDF that is loaded.  The file size of the PDF does not matter either.  I have opened very small ones and very large ones.  They all open fine but then freeze as soon as you try to do something with the file. It's not just Adobe that freezes!  It actually locks up the entire computer!

At the advice of my IT guy at work, I checked the Event Viewer.  This is one of the messages I was getting:
The protocol handler Search.Mapi2Handler.1 cannot be loaded. Error description: Class not registered.
I did a search on it and went to

One of the posts says to go
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/desktopsearch/choose/windowssearch4.ms px?tab=Install%20It
    and install Windows Search 4.0.
Where I am still getting the original error above, Acrobat has started working correctly.
Now.  Something else happened as well.  Actually two things.  First, when I opened Outlook this time, I got a pop-up that said something about RSS feeds - Yes, No, or Ask Me Later.  I think I clicked on NO.
Now, Outlook is opening faster that ever before and Acrobat is working.

  • Acrobat Reader remains freezen a few seconds when open a pdf-file

    Hello everybody,

Do you know if this problem is normal or how to fix it?
Thanks for your discussion and answers.

It is very curious, I has this problem more than one year. And now I have tested my pdf documents which a already freezen and there don't freezen. I have tested my small and big and your pdf file and I no longer have this problem.  The problem is resolved.
Yesterday I have only tried to creat with word an blanc file by save as *.pdf and I have open this file with the reader and since this I no longer have this problem.

  • When openning a PDF file, a new tab will open but it will be blank, it does not download or open any pdf files, this just started the last 3 days....!!!!

    Hi,
I am on the verge of deleting Firefox from my computer as it has wasted hours of my time, and none of the online trouble-shooting answers are of any help.
Until recently I could open PDF files in my browser window, and today its impossible to open any pdf file, it will not even download if I choose to download it.
This issue has been going on and off for nearly a year, and I downloaded Nitro PDF add-on to solve it previously as the Adobe reader add-on didn't do anything. Today In the options menu of applications where I can select the program I want to open the PDF files with I can no longer find the NitroPDF reader as an option, so I choose the Adobe add-on and no matter how many re-starts it refuses to initiate any PDF files, all I get is a open and empty new tab.
Internet explorer opens PDF files fine, so I know its not computer related.
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate, Firefox Version 19.0.
If there is a way of fixing this, please help because currently I am at the end of my patience.
    Regards,
    Emre

Hey thanx for the help, it worked like a charm.
I think firefox changed the application lay out, as I used to be able to choose my PDF opener from the list at " Adobe Acrobat Forms Document' where I could choose Nitro-PDF reader, but it has now moved all the way to the bottom like you suggested to the obvious place of "Portable Document Format" section.
If someone didn't tell me , I wouldn't have scrolled all the way down to be able to find it... it really should be with all its cousins up the top...
    Cheers again..

  • Is there a way to have the thumbnail pane automatically open when opening a pdf file?

I'm using Adobe Reader X and I would like to have the thumbnail preview automatically open when opning a pdf file. I know there is a setting to remember view layouts but this is set for the currently open document and not in general. Thanks in advance,
    Regards
    Robert

A particular file can have this setting, so each time you open it you see the thumbnails. The bad news is:
    - this would have to be changed per file
    - this requires the Acrobat product, not just the free Reader.

  • I am always prompted when opening a pdf file

I have tried all the fixes listed on the help site and I always get prompted as to how to open a pdf file. I have Acrobat Pro 6.0 and Acrobat Reader 10. I uninstalled and reinstalled reader 10.
I can set the application tab for pdf files to Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox), but everytime I click on a pdf file I am prompted as to what application I want to use to open the file. The only option I have is "Acrobat 6.0 (default)", or save file.
I have deleted the mime file and the plugin.dat file with no help.

Thank you for the reply. I had tried all the suggestions in the viewing pdf files section of the help. I also deleted the prefs.jr files and it did not fix the problem.
I am attaching the two dialog snap shots to help explain what my problem is.
The first is the application setting showing Adobe in Firefox as the setting I have selected. The second is the prompt I receive everytime I try to view a pdf file by clicking on it.

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard/Pro freezing when opening large PDF documents

Ok, I have a tough one. Adobe Acrobat X Standard/Pro keeps freezing when opening large documents that exceed approx. 50 pages. These PDF documents contain large images and graphs for mining purposes, but no links. The issue impacts multiple users on multiple laptops/desktops. We have tried the following:
    - Uninstalling/re-installing Adobe Acrobat
    - Disabling Enhanced Security in Acrobat Preferences
    - Resetting local user profiles
    - Changing Reading Preferences to view current visible pages only
    - Installing Adobe Acrobat XI
This issue has only occurred after upgrading users to a Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit Operating System.
The only possible solution I have managed to find is changing a registry key that permanently disables the Enhanced Security options in Acrobat. This solution however, only worked on brand new user profiles. Resetting user profiles throughout our entire company is not something we are even going to consider.
If anyone would like more information that I have missed, please feel free to ask.

Another possibility to check is the free space in the TEMP folder. I believe Acrobat uses the TEMP folder for temporary storage. You might even consider increasing the size of the TEMP folder. At least this is something else to check.

  • Safari 4 crashes when opening a pdf file

    Hi,
Since that last update safari crashes everytime I want to open an pdf file. Any thoughts on how to fix this. Or help me get back tot the previous safari.
    Mamino

    HI,
There are no Mac viruses in the wild.
I think the problem here is that you are running 10.3 (Panther). That limits you to how far you can go as far as Safari versions.
Unfortunately, an iMac G3 can't support the latest versions of web browser content including Flash.
    Safari 4 requires:
    ▪ Any Mac running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.7 or Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 and Security Update 2009-002
    ▪ Mac with an Intel processor or a Power PC G5, G4, or G3 processor and built-in FireWire®
    ▪ 256MB of RAM
    ▪ Top Sites and Cover Flow on Mac OS X Tiger require a Quartz-Extreme compatible video card. More details
