Premiere on a MAC vs PC.

Hello, I am a MAC user but I am considering moving to PC.  What are the significant differences between running Premiere on a MAC vs a PC?  Can one edit and output the same codec on either system?

Hi Alacatemedia,
FYI:  there is a lot of missing info with regards to the questions that will help forum users to better answer your concerns or might be answered by reviewing the FAQ, Premiere product page or the forums (such format you are using now, legacy requirements and what are your requirements going forward?)
Here is the readers digest version.
In terms of significant platform differences?  where you'll see the difference is in the range of supported hardware (video cards, array controllers, audio cards, keyboard, mice.  Professional add-in cards SDI cards, frame capture, etc generally have support by the vendors and feature parity between Windows & OS/X.   If you use thunderbolt accessories, windows lags behind OS/X.  4k-6K workflows require more powerful CPU's for decoding, vendors of windows machine have more powerful machines than Apple.
In terms of codecs:  There are some differences:  pro-res are only outputtable on OS/X, quicktime on windows is 32 bit so there are output limitations on windows which are not present on OS/X as quicktime runtime is 64bit.  Windows has their WMV which isn't available on OS/X.
Hope it helps.

  • Text Save Style in Premiere Elements 13 Mac

I can't save styles for text in Premiere Elements 13 on my Mac. I can make one, only one, but it won't save the name and lately it hasn't even saved the style. What should I do to fix that?

Are you working in the Expert workspace or the Quick workspace of the program?
Adobe has just released the 13.1 Update for version 13. Have you downloaded and installed it? If not, don't right now.
Please do this mini test first in a new project...
    1. Open the Titler with Text Menu/New/Default Text
    2. In the Text Section of the Titler create your text, apply a style to it from the Styles Section of the Titler, and save
the text style in the Style Section of the Titler.
If that is what you have been doing, then update from 13 to 13.1 And, repeat the mini test run. Do you have the same problem
in 13.1 as you did in 13?
If so, go to the Quick workspace, and repeat the mini test run there. Do you have the same problems in the Quick workspace as
you did in the Expert workspace?
If that does not help the situation, then please delete the Premiere Elements 13/13.1 setting file which should be found

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 (mac) will not completely launch.

After a few weeks idol my Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 (mac) will not completely launch. It tells me a serious error has occurred, it shuts down and the circle continues. I've even reloaded  the app and it happens again. I did upgraded to Yosemite but I can't find anyone else having probs with Yosemite. Any ideas. No luck on the adobe site.

CS6 is about 3 years old... even the latest Cloud versions had to have updates to be compatible... since you have "reloaded" (was that a full uninstall and reinstall?) I have no other suggestions

  • "Sliding Boxes" wipe transition in Premiere CS5 for Mac?

Hi, I have a fairly simple question. Can anyone verify that the wipe transition "sliding boxes" is available in Premiere CS5 for Mac? It wasn't in Premiere CS4 for Mac, it only featured in the Windows version....
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Just dit a check of the 'sliding boxes' in CS5.5, but didn't found it.
However do you know about the new plugins from FilmImpact.net?
These are great quality transitions for Premiere Pro CS5 & CS5.5.
They are freely available for Windows & Mac!
    Cheers,

  • De-install Premiere CS4 for mac

How do I de-install Adobe Premiere CS4 for mac so I can re-install it? I think you have to do more than just throw it in the trash right?
    I'm on a mac OS X version 10.5.6
You don't have to reinstall the entire suite right?
    Thank you.
    Jill

thaks gueys for the previous messages...In short my MPEGs in  my timeline are all Pending (they were working fine for months. My .mov files in Adobe Premiere are fine still. I just don't want to lose all of my editing! I need help trying to get my MPEGS working again and don't want to have to re-edit.

  • Export to .AVI in Premiere Pro on Mac

We are hoping to migrate from Final Cut to Premiere Pro CS5 (Mac) to produce video for a big screen in our gym (among other things), because of the seamless interaction between After Effects, Premiere and Encore.  However, the program for the big screen needs the file to be an .AVI and won't accept any other format.   I can't seem to find how to export the video as an .AVI on Premiere ProCS5.  Is there a way to do this?

No, not directly. What codec do you need in the AVI? AVI is just a container, and can hold many different types of codecs, so you need to know what codec you specifically need for your use.

  • Premiere CC for Mac - How do I fix fisheye from a GoPro Hero 3+ video?

    Hi all,
First up, I'm very new to Premiere - my experience is probably less than 2 hours at this point.  To disspell any concern over whether or not I'm using a licensed copy of Pr - yes, I am.  I subscribe to Creative Cloud because of my need for Lr, Ps and Ai.
Anyway, I've got a GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition camera and would like to learn how to remove the fisheye effect caused by the crazy wide video that produces.  In 1920x1080 "SuperView" I think it's some like 170+ degrees of view vs 127 degrees in "normal" wide mode.  Those figures might not be 100% correct but they're close.
With SuperView there's some insane fisheye going on - as you'd expect, I guess.  Using the GoPro software there's an option to remove it but that produces video with an aspect ratio that looks squashed.  People are super tall and I lose some of the captured video at the top & bottom when watching.
In Premiere for Windows, I believe there's a video effect calls Lens Distortion - it's not there on my Mac version of Premiere CC.  The tutorial I watched set the Lens Distortion to -27 and I'd like to try it.  Can't though - that effect isn't there.
Is it possible to remove fisheye using Premiere CC for Mac only i.e. completely bypass the GoPro software?  If anyone's wondering why I want to bypass the GoPro software - the answer is "just coz."
    Thanks

The 2014 release of Premiere Pro CC now has presets for specific GoPro models. This is true in PPro for Mac, too. Check out the Effects tab in the Project panel: Presets > Lens Distortion Removal > GoPro > [your specific model] > [your specific GoPro footage's mode]. Drag the effect to your clip and watch the barrel distortion go away.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Mac 10.6.5 not releasing memory

I have a Mac Pro running 10.6.5 Mac OS, 16GB Ram that I just installed today (had 8GB).  I opened up a rather large 11 minute PPro project.  I rendered it out.  Noticed that the Used Memory was getting larger, up to about 10GB where it leveled off for the remainder of the render.  After the render was done, the used memory stayed at 10GB.  I exited PPro, and it stayed 10GB.  Seems like it's not releasing the memory back to available or am I not understanding how either the Mac OS works with regards to memory or perhaps PPro?

Yes, that appears to be the problem. I disconnected my secondary monitor (which does have a different vertical resolution) and the eyedropper appears to function properly.
Okay, so now I know the cause of the issue. However, disconnecting and reconnecting monitors is not an acceptable workflow. Apparently this problem affects quite a few Premiere Pro CS5 Mac users with dual monitors since you referred to it as a know issue with all versions of Mac OS. Do you know if there is an update (not an upgrade) for Premiere Pro CS5 to address this?
    Thanks.

  • Premiere 11 and Mac

It would appear that Adobe has finally solved the time stamp problems for Mac users after 2 years without a patch. With PSE 11 and Mac there is still no slide show. Has anyone had any experience using Premiere on a Mac for slideshows (not importing video) and if so any good tutorials? Thanks

I’ve not done it on the mac but I have on Windows so I’m sure it will work. It’s not as easy as using Output to PRE from the PSE Slideshow Editor but you can easily add stills to the PRE timeline. It takes longer to add transitions between the stills but with the added benefit of effects and a music track and the ability to tweak the final tones/saturation it’s possible to produce a very good slideshow. Many people use Pro Show Gold or Producer from Photodex but I always think they look over produced.

  • Running Premiere on a Mac Pro 1.1

I currently run a Mac Pro 1.1 that's maxed out with OSX 10.6.8. My system will not be able to support the most current Adobe Premiere Pro CC (2014) which states it needs 10.8 or higher.  The previous Premiere version worked great when I downloaded a trial version a few years ago, but can I still purchase/download this older version of Premiere for my Mac? I'm not planning on purchasing a new Mac for another 2 years. The 1.1 still works wonderfully. Thanks!

  • I bought Adobe premiere 13 for mac and it says blank disc when I try to upload it. Why? and How do I fix this?

The premiere  elements 13 and Photoshop elements 13 for Mac disc reads as blank when inserted for upload. I bought it at Staples. Now it won't upload.
Is there a reason for this? Is it a faulty disc or does it need to be activated somehow?

    tarah
Some places sell the product with a redemption code and not the serial number. Then the user has to go through the procedure of getting the serial number from the
redemption code. Another factor is whether or not you purchased a Student Teacher version that may have come with a Product Code.

Are you saying that you insert a disc marked specifically for Premiere Elements 13 Mac installation, and it opens to give you a blank disc?
When you write "for upload", do you mean insert disc for installation?
You can obtain tryout installation files from the following web site and insert your purchased serial number (if that is what you have) into them during installation.

Just make sure that you carry out the web page's "Note: Very Important Instructions" so that you do not get an Access Denied message.

  • Premiere on a Mac? mpg2 and mp4?

I have Premiere CS4 on a intel macmini and it sucks. I can only export as quicktime, mpg2 and mp4. None of these work corectly on my mac. First there is no HD format for the quicktime so I have to choose from mp4 or mpg2. But macs don't come with a mpg2 codec so I try mp4 wich is what I want anyway but guess what. The play back is terrible no matter what I try, it always stutters and plays choppy.
Why can't I export a clean mp4? Doesn't Adobe test and develop for these problems?
Does anybody know? Does anybody use adobe premiere on a mac or is it completey useless to mac users?

on a intel macmini and it sucks.
    I agree.  Here's the solution.
