Premiere Pro 2.0 - AME Won't open!
Hello. Trying to export simple small AVI file to Quicktime. Premiere Pro 2.0, Windows XP, etc.
1st two attempts: Export/Adobe Media Encoder, chose Quicktime format. Encountered some kind of problem, error: Invalid profile file! I think this is an audio issue, but not sure yet.
Subsequent attempts: Export/AME will not open - nothing happens when I use this menu sequence. Tried exiting Premiere, retried, same result.
Ideas?
TIA
OK, thanks for trying.
There were no updates (to my knowledge) for PrPro 2.0, so that should not be an issue.
Next, and even an uninstall/reinstall will not address this - trash your Prefs file. Now, the process differs by Adobe products, but I think that PrPro will reset these, if you hold down Shift, and continue to hold it down when you launch PrPro. If that is not it, then I'd try holding down Ctrl. I wish that Adobe was common with this, across all products. PS is Shift+Ctrl+Alt, while launching.
One can also find the Prefs file in Documents & Settings/[User Name]/Application Settings/Adobe/Premiere Pro 2.0/2.0, IIRC (will go check on my XP machine and report back). The Prefs file can be Renamed to say Adobe Premiere Pro.Prefs_old. PrPro will regenerate this file upon launch. You WILL need to go into Edit>Preferences and reset things, as they will be set to the default.
Back in a moment,
Hunt
[Edit] Here is my Path: C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\2.0. The file is: Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs. Change that to Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs_Old, or Move it elsewhere, say to an "Old Prefs" folder.

Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 won't open and crashes
Hi all,
I'm pretty desperate because I need to work on a project by my colleague (who works with Premiere, latest version)... but I just can't make my version even open. As soon as it starts firing up, it crashes.
I used to have a working version (7.02), but with this I could not open his project (from 8.1)... and hence downloaded the newer version. I de-installed it again, hoping that it might have just been an installation bug... but sad irony... no version works anymore. I have "rented" my premiere from "the cloud", however all I can get to download now is the trial version. I wouldn't mind that... if it only worked... because I'm on a tight schedule.
So here are my specs:
Model: MacBookPro10,1, BootROM MBP101.00EE.B02, 4 processors, Intel Core i7, 2.6 GHz, 16 GB, SMC 2.3f36
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000, Intel HD Graphics 4000, Built-In
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, PCIe, 1024 MB
I would be grateful for any help - until a month ago... I "only" worked with the MC... and hence I'm new bee in adobe land.
Regards and THANKS
ChristinaDear all,
thanks for your help! I was able to talk to a very professional and understanding member of Adobe support and the source of the problem was more banal:
Since updating to OS X 10.9.5 all my permissions were a mess. Premiere wasn't allowed to "read and write", and hence unable to create folders etc - although the boxes were all ticked in the right way. However after the permissions were restored (and there were loads of faulty ones)... premiere seems to work again fine!
So what I got out of this is to be very careful before updating my system again... -> "never change a winning team" -> however not updating for ages can't be the solution too... I will have to find the right balance ;-)
Again: Thanks for all your advice... in any case I've learned lots by trying out your different suggestions

Seriously, I'm ready to throw something expensive against the wall, this is So. Freaking. Frustrating!
Please post information about your system. For example, there are some things you can do on Mac to help fix this problem you're encountering.

I had a technician, Rajat, from a Adobe re-install Acrobat Pro. It still won't open. He said the case has to be elevated. How do I get help from someone in the United States?
Not one of my technicians. We are just fellow users of the product.
But if you start from the top and explain your problem we have a fair track record of helping. Some questions for you
- what version of Mac or Windows
- what version of Acrobat Pro
- what exactly happens when you try to open Acrobat Pro (error messages in full please)
- whether it ever worked and what changed? -
I filed this as a bug, but perhaps I'm thinking through this wrong and would like to seek help.
I'm finding that the Project frame in Premiere Pro CS6 does not retain its layout between opening and closings.
Here's what I do:
1) Open a project.
2) Create several bins and populate them with media. Expand the contents of a bin by clicking the disclosure triangle to the left of the folder.
3) Undock the Project frame only.
4) Close the Project frame with Command-W
5) Use ****-1 to reopen the Project frame.
Repeat steps 4 and 5. The result is that the Project frame does not remember which bin was open. Furstratingly, it also does not retain which bins were expanded or collapsed.
And worst of all, it will also open in random areas of the screen. (The expected result is that it would reopen in the same spot of the desktop where you last closed it, no?)
I'm a big organizer -- tons of footage across many different bins. I open bins, close them, keep some open, close others... easily dozens or hundreds of times during an edit session. I'm beginnging to feel like I'm swatting flies or playing whack-a-mole just to get my bin views correct!
Or mm I approaching this wrong? But really, the real solution for me was to not update Premiere Pro CS6 after a reinstall. The most recent updates just do not like my computer, I guess.
Figured I should post this solution here in case anyone in the future has this problem. (relevant: xkcd: Wisdom of the Ancients)

Premiere Pro CC asleep? Won't respond to anything when I go back to it.
So, I've been having this issue for a week or two now, and I can't seem to figure out why it is happening. I usually have Premiere Pro CC (most recent version installed running in OSX Yosemite) open in the background of my computer when I'm not editing anything, but when I go back to it after varying periods of time, and try to do anything, nothing happens. I hit the space bar to play, scrub the playhead in the timeline, source, and program windows, double-click to open clips from my bin, switch tools, etc., and nothing happens. The playhead in the windows will move, but no audio or video plays - whatever is in the source and program windows at that time will stay there, like it's frozen. But there is no spinning pinwheel of death/spinning beach ball or anything. If I right-click on the PP icon in the dock, it doesn't say that the program isn't responding. There's no indication that anything is wrong.
Occasionally, Premiere will wake up after a minute (sometimes more, sometimes less) and work fine. Sometimes I have to save the project (by pressing Command-S or by using the File menu) to get it to work, but that doesn't always fix it. I Command-Tab to other programs and then go back to PP - sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. Closing and opening the program always works, but that's an annoying fix just to get the program to wake up.
Has anyone else had these issues? I can't be the only one.
Computer Specs:
Mac Pro (Mid 2012), running OSX 10.10.1
32 GB memory (4 GB reserved for other applications - 28 for PP, AME, AE, PS)

Premiere (and After Effects) CS6 won't open anymore!
Hi everyone,
Recently, I've been working on a project which required a dynamic link between After Effects and Premiere CS6 on my MacBook Pro, which runs OSX Mountain Lion. Everything worked great until yesterday, when I got an error message that said something along the lines of "Adobe Premiere has encountered an error. We will try to save your project and restart Premiere again".
I re-opened Premiere, and although the same thing happened again a few times, I was finally able to get back to my project. Today, however, the same message appeared when I opened it again. I went through the same routine again, opening it and then exiting out, but this time, it didn't work.
Not only is Premiere not opening, it is no longer even showing the error message. It simply goes to the loading screen and the the infamous "Spinning Beach Ball of Death" appears. I've force quit multiple times and re-started my computer with every application closed. I've also relaunched Finder (I honestly don't think that would help, but I tried anyways) - still, the loading sign freezes and the SBBOD appears again.
Instead of sitting there trying to fix it and wasting my time, I tried opening After Effects to at least work on the linked compositions that were in my Premiere project. I then get this message before After Effects force quits automatically:
"Last log message was: <140735255806336> <GPUManager> <2> Sniffer Result Code: 3
Generating crash log, which may take a few minutes."
So, apparently this has something to do with my GPU or CPU? I'm not really that educated when it comes to GPUs, so I'm not sure what to do now. I have a CUDA Driver Version 5.5.47 on my computer (I'm not entirely sure how it got there in the first place...), and System Preferences has been notifying me that it needs to be updated. I heard somewhere, on a different forum, that this may have something to do with it, so I downloaded what I thought was a newer version of the driver, although this just turned out to be the same version (5.5.47) that I already have (which seems to be the newest one).
So, what do you think I should do? Is there something very specific that should be done? Does it have something to do with this CUDA thing? Is the best option to just uninstall and then reinstall?
If you have any ideas, let me know!
Thank you!Thank you so much, Mr. Curtis! I'm not sure exactly how that worked, but it allowed me to get back on both AE and Premiere Pro. 10 points to you!
Also, for the other people that may have similar problems and are viewing this forum, definitely try this out. Listen to Jim's advice, don't use the most recent version (which is currectly 5.5.47) - instead try a slightly older one. The one I had installed was version 5.5.24.
Once again, thank you! You saved my project! -
Why does Premiere Pro CS 6 hang when option opening bins, clip to sequence, etc?
Hello,
I am having an issue with Premiere Pro CS6 performing a few commands:
- Option Clicking Bins to open them
- Duplicating Sequences
- Performing Clip to Sequence
- Creating Sequence: File → New → Seq
I am not having these issues (the system does not hang) when loading shots, Match-framing, watching dailies, etc in my source monitor or watching the assembly. Everything works fine when actually cutting, trimming, inserting, etc. Cutting in the timeline is actually a pleasure – fast and very responsive.
The problem only happens when I’m in bins.
My project is rather large – about 49.9MB, with over 100 folders and bins (it is a feature).
I have tested these commands with smaller projects – importing a sequence from the current "hanging" project into a new project - and everything is working fine with the small project of that one sequence and consolidated clips from the sequence.
I originally thought it as a RAW issue (I had 8GB). When I installed another 8GB of RAM for a total of 16GB the issue stopped and I have been editing fine for the last few days.
However yesterday the issue started again – it hangs on the commands listed above (Mac’s spinning wheel). The operation is usually completed successfully however it can take up anywhere from five to ten minutes before the sequence is duplicated or the bin opens (option clicking), etc.
Again, from what I’ve gathered it does not happen with smaller projects – with less bins, footage, clips, etc. but only with this rather large project – with many daily bins, sequence bins, etc.
My system spec. are:
MacPro 1,1 - OS X 10.6.8
2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
16GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
The media that I’m cutting is ProRes (transcoded from Epic RED footage).
I'm wondering if this issue is hardware-related or Premiere Pro CS6-related.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you,

Premiere Pro CC crashes every time I open up a version of a project
I have a 3 month project I've been working on and now I can't open any version of it without it crashing when I open the project. Or... Crashing when I click on the Main Sequence to view it in the timeline. I have several incrementally saved versions and nothing will work.
I have a MacBook Pro Retina 16GB from 2012. I haven't upgraded to mavericks, don't want to.Process: Adobe Premiere Pro CC [9445]

Only Premiere Pro CC and CS6 won't launch on startup after installing CC 2014
Ever since I downloaded CC, I cannot open Premiere Pro on CC or CS6 -- which CS6 worked fine before. However, all other installed apps on CC work fine, including After Effects. My specs are all up to date, (2012 Macbook Pro, 8GB RAM, 64-bit, etc) and figure there's some kind of bug within Premiere. My Adobe preference folder is set to Read&Write and don't know what to do. I have read that people downloaded and ran CC Cleaner but to no avail to fix the underlying issues. Need help ASAP. Thanks in advance.
Hi,
Launch Premiere while holding the Option key on the keyboard. If that doesn't help, try this:
Go to the following locations:
Location 1: When in Finder, click on Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Location 2: Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe
Location 3: Documents > Adobe
In all the locations, rename the 'Adobe' folders to 'OldAdobe'
Launch Premiere, accept the License Agreement and see if it works.
Note: You will lose your customized workspaces and keyboard shortcuts.
Thanks,

Premiere Pro CS 5.5 crashes when opening certain projects. Others work.
Hey,
when opening two certain project PP starts to load but when the progress bar is full the program crashes with an error saying Premiere Pro doesn't work anymore.
Other projects can be opened like normal. I can also create a new project and premiere works.
Is there a problem with the project file? Can they be faulty? But I didn't change them for a few months. I also tried to open backupfiles of that project but it is the same problem. What else can be wrong?
The project is very complex, might this cause any problem? Or sth. in the cache, preview files?
Hopefully someone can help me out.
Regards,
TuiThat would certainly indicate that your "bad" projects are completely corrupt
When you create new projects (sorry, I don't have any other suggestion) you might also start a new work habit
At least every day, or after every "major" project step, do a SAVE AS to save a new project
Something like...
JoeVideo01
JoeVideo02
JoeVideo03
and so on... so if JoeVideo03 is somehow corrupted, you may go back to JoeVideo02 AND all of the auto-saves for that name to try and find a project that is from before the corruption happened -
Premiere Pro CC crash on launch, crash opening project, update issues
Hi,
iMac 2011 quad i7 3.4 GHz, 20GB RAM, MacOS 10.9.2 and 10.7.5, Premiere CC 7.0.0 & 7.2.1
I've been having a crazy time with Premiere CC. I started an Africa documentary 2 weeks ago, which forced me to upgrade to CC (on MacOS 10.9.2). Other than some issues with the Creative Cloud installer app (which seems like a great idea but never seems to work as it should, especially with updates), I was happily working away for about 10 days.
During that time I had to install Premiere CS6 again to open another project -- and continued happily working.
Then I needed to export some markers... and discovered that the Creative Cloud app wasn't reporting any updates beyond 7.0.0, and I needed 7.2.1 to export markers. That's when my problems started.
I tried to update to 7.2.1 with the Creative Cloud app -- it wouldn't see the update.
I tried to download the 7.2 and 7.2.1 patches from Adobe's site directly -- neither of these would install, because they said I didn't have the right software (or something like that -- didn't write down the error).
Finally I used the Adobe Cleaner tool to uninstall and clean all Adobe apps off my system. Then I was able to use the CC app to download 7.0.0, and my patches to update to 7.2.1.
I tried to open my project... Premiere crashed as it opened the project (as it was loading the clips).
I uninstalled all 3rd party effects, checking to ensure nothing was in the MediaCore folder. I deleted all caches and previews. I checked the permissions of the Adobe preferences folder, and trashed the Premiere preferences. I rebuilt permissions.
Now, not only could I not open the project, but Premiere itself would not launch -- it would freeze to the point of forcing a reboot.
Cleaned Adobe apps again, went online with Adobe tech support for a full hour. The main thing they did was remove a CUDA extension, but after reinstalling, the problem persisted... at first it crashed while loading the project, and then crashed in the launch itself.
Luckily, I had a backup of MacOS 10.7.5, which I had been using before starting this documentary project. I went back to that backup, installed Premiere 7.2.1... and now Premiere launches properly but still crashes about halfway through loading my project.
I can load the project if the clips are offline (temporarily renaming the footage folder), so it seems that somewhere along this zany process, one or more clips got corrupted.
With 15,000 clips of different formats in this project, finding which clip(s) is corrupted is like finding a needle in a haystack. For now, I am importing my sequences into a new project, and just importing the clips I need to finish my edit at hand. Then I will likely have to build a new project from scratch -- a long process, since Premiere can't import nests of subfolders like After Effects and Final Cut Pro can, and that's how the footage from this project has been organized.
Arg! At this point I have a workaround (at least in MacOS 10.7.5), so I'm not really asking anything, but if anyone has light to shed I'm all ears.
P.S. I think when I installed CS6 after installing CC, it confused the CC app. I don't think that caused my Premiere issues, but I think it may have contributed to the issues installing updates, and the CC app getting confused.Hello GrayJones,
This does seem like some pretty unusual behaviour! And I can only imagine the frustration it must be causing (believe me, I've been there!)
I've seen a lot of crash issues that are related to computer's graphic cards. You may want to try updating your graphics card's driver before proceeding forward. Also, there are a very small number of graphics cards that just don't work well with Premiere. You can also check the settings of your Mercury Playback Engine GPU. This can impact the performance of your software, especially depending on your graphics card. I may have missed it above, but didn't see anything related to Graphics cards in what you tried.
If you update your graphics card's drivers, and then update your version of Premiere Pro, it may solve the crashing on launch issue that you were having. Moving forward with fully updated PP software would be my first course of action, if it's possible.
Although I see that you have tried it alreay, you might want to reset your preferences (hold Cmd and Shift on the Mac while opening the program until you hit the splash screen) and resetting your PP cache (Premiere Pro - Preferences - Media - Click on "Clean Media Cache Database"
Without seeing the errors that caused your updates to not install originally I can't really offer suggestions regarding that. It could be a system conflict somewhere on your computer, but there are dozens of possibilities of what could be causing, especially if you have other plugins, older versions of Adobe or other video softwares, that kind of thing...
Moving forward from there:
How are you working? Are your images stored on an external hard drive or locally? How are you connecting the hard drive to your machine? Are you tossing all of the clips with different time code into one sequence and working from there, or editing on separate sequences?
As for your project: Do you have the ability to test it on a different machine? You can try doing a project manager (File-Project Manager) and putting your entire managed project onto a different machine to see the behaviour, that way you can figure out if the issues are related to the project itself, or to your install of Premiere Pro on your machine. IF the project works fine on another system, then clearly the issue is related to your software/hardware configuration, if you have the same issues with the project on every machine, then it might be something different. Can you test other projects on your current set-up? Is this the only project that is affected?
If you have one or several corrupted files I know it can be painstaking to try to locate where the damage is at, generally it's a process of elimination, make a sequence with files from one camera and see what happens, if it glitches, try another camera until you can see if it's a general issue to all of your cameras or specific to some. Narrow it down from there, if it's multiple cameras, then the error (again) is software/hardware or transfer related or occurs in your transfer/storage process, or may be related to your uninstalls/re-installs with CC and CS6 (although I don't think I've ever seen that!)
If it's only clips from one camera (you mention the Canon XF100 has problems) maybe something affected your camera. I once saw standing too close to a radar-dish corrupt 1/4 of the clips from a BBC videographer's camera. I have no explanation why... but it can happen, so if only one camera is affected you should consider the possibility.
I'll try to assist with this as much as I can! But remember that the forums are not here for Adobe personnel to provide support to clients, but as a community for Adobe-philes to share and help. A lot of Adobe staff who are posting on here are generally doing it because they've got a bit of free time and want to help out. You should consider contacting support again if you can't resolve the problem and getting them to connect you to a video specific team.
Cheers!

Hi, im a PC user and when i open a project or create a new project, Premiere Pro closes when the project opens. I get no crash warning or anything like that, it just closes down.
Also, this may be related. My Creative Cloud app tells me that it needs updating, but when i do, it too closes down. When i reopen the CC app, it tells me that it needs that same update again.

"Adobe Premiere Pro 2014.1 has stopped working" Open Project Error
Hey, everyone.
I recently tried to re-open a project file that I created earlier today. As soon as it loads, the familiar "Adobe Premiere Pro 2014.1 has stopped working" window comes up.
I created a new project file and it seemed to work fine. When I first started this project, I was having trouble using a ".m2ts" AVCHD movie file (PPro would crash in a similar manner), so I used Media Encoder to change it to a ".mov" Quicktime file. Seemed to work fine after I did that. This new issue only arose once I tried to re-open the project file after shutting down the computer.
Got any suggestions?
-RossCorrection - I converted the ".m2ts" file to an ".mp4" file, not an ".mov" file.
