Premiere Pro 2.0 - crashes on any task

I have been running Premiere Pro 2.0 for a couple of years on a Windows XP laptop. I only use the program infrequently, mostly to do small edits on client files.
Recently, I have been unable to do ANYTHING with Premiere Pro 2.0  When I open the program, I get the dialogue with the choices of New Project, Open Project and Help. When I try to click on New Project, I get the expected dialogue box - but no matter what I choose as the New Project settings, when I click on OK, PPro crashes. Similarly, if I click on Open Project and select an existing project, PPro crashes.
I have tried deleting my prefs - no change. I have tried specifying different locations for the new projects - no change.
If I uninstall/reinstall Premiere Pro 2.0, how does the activation thing work? I can't deactivate it before uninstalling, as it won't let me get to the point where I can access the top menu of the program.
This is very frustrating.
TIA for your help!

When something works one day, but not the next, then something has changed. The trick is to find out what has changed, and address that.
Have you added any new hardware, or software?
The first thing that I would do is list your hardware in this thread, so that others can see what you are working with. Be very sure to list the I/O sub-system's specs., i.e. your HDD's, their size, speed, defragmented free space (very, very important), controller type(s) and how you have them allocated. This ARTICLE will give you some tips.
Next step would be to check for updates for your video and audio drivers, and install to the very latest. Check the mfgrs' Web sites, and do not trust Windows, or any other utility to tell you if you have the latest drivers. Test.
Then, create a System Restore Point for today, reboot to Safe Mode, and choose a System Restore Point from back when things worked fine. Test. If PrPro begins to work, at least you have a time frame in which to work, to find out what has changed, though you still have to figure out WHAT has changed. Note: you might need to go back a bit further, than first thought, just to get to before whatever change is fritzing things up.
At the worst, you have lost just a few minutes, and a couple of reboots, as you did that manual System Restore Point for today, and can just go back to that, and work at the problem some other way.
BTW - I run PrPro 2.0 on a Sager laptop, and it has been 100% rock-solid.
Good luck, and please report the hardware specs.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 Crashing with rendering, freezing system, and more

    Hello,
I'm having some serious issues with Premiere pro on my late 2013 iMac.
    OSX 10.9.5
    3.2GHz Intel Core i5
    16GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    NVIDIA FeForce GT 755M  1024MB
I'm working in 1920x1080 23.976fps. Media files are from sony FS700 .MTS and Cannon 5DmkIII .mov
Multiple times per day, PP crashes on me. It all started when I was getting really choppy playback which would be accompanied by this error message:
A Low Level Exception has occurred in ImporterMPEG (Importer)
This would soon after lead to the program freezing and me having to force quit the program. After contacting Adobe the first time about this persistent issue, the tech explained to me that it was a "Memory Leak" issue and that there was nothing that could be done. After the support team member ended our chat online before helping me solve my issue, I called support. I provided my case number and this person picked up where the helplessly left me and did the typical Adobe one fix all: He went into the hidden library and cleared all of my preferences, removed any third party plugins, and cleared the files in the root applications Adobe folder, renamed a folder "Adobe.Old" etc.
As I explained to the support team member on the phone, this is not a solution but rather a bandaid until it happens again.
Low and behold it has happened again. This time the support team member had me create a new System Administrator account on my computer thinking that there was a permissions problem with my other account which was conflicting with PPCC2014. While this was a major pain to switch between the new account and any other program that I had set up for day to day work, it allowed me to continue editing and at least (at a less efficient rate) get things done.
Now, while using my new System Administrator account, I am getting terrible crashes that not only stall the program, but force me to hard re-boot my computer. These crashes are accompanied by a terrifying looking screen that I was only able to capture once.
They've only become more intimidating as now I cant even see the program when this happens, but this is the only screen capture that did not turn out completely black.
I'm looking to see if anyone has had any extreme issues like this and if so how they were able to fix it. I've now spent 6+ hours with support and after the last one was told I would receive a personal email follow up by the end of the day (never happened) to take further actions based on the performance after the new account creation.
    I need help. Now.
    -John

    Hi John,
First of all, try this: Re: A low level exception occured in: Importer MPEG (Importer)
Next, make sure that if you updated OS X to 10.9.x, or later, you must check the following each time you update: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
    Other things to try:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
    Repair permissions
    Disconnect any third party hardware
Remove QT components from Mac HD > Library > QuickTime
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot
Report back if anything here worked for you.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Premiere Pro CC (2014) Crashes if I try and locate footage/scrub/create a blank sequence, please help

Hello, this is my first time asking for help on here, I've been going round the forums and web in general for hours and can't seem to find a solution to this. I really hope someone can help me sort this.
Every time I try and open a project in Pr CC 2014 on my Mac Pro  I get the "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will try and save your current project."
People usually ask for as much detail as possible, so to that end: This is a project that I started on my MacBook Pro Retina, so when opening on my desktop it prompts me to locate the footage. Once I find the first file, as soon as my mouse moves over the clip (at the point that scrubbing would be evoked) I get the warning and it shuts down. I tried to open a blank new project, which does not shut down, until I go to import the footage and again, it only crashes when the mouse moves of the clip to scrub. I tried locating the footage in the finder to sidestep the Media Browser, and that allowed me to select the clip, but crashes once I tried to import it. I thought it may be the footage was corrupted, so I tried other clips with the same result. It also crashes if I just try to create a new sequence, with no footage at all in the project.
All my other Adobe apps (AME, Pl, Ae, Br, Ai, Ps, Lr, Id, Mu) are working fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Pr and AME twice now. I have followed the advice of other posts and renamed/reset/deleted the preferences, plugins in the Library, and adobe folder in users/username/Documents. I have ensured that I have read/write access in all folders. I am running Yosemite on my desktop, but so is my laptop and Pr is running flawlessly on that. I never had this problem with Pr CC pre 2014, so I'm hoping it's not a hardware issue.
I've also tried turning it off and on again!
I have reached the end of my tether and consider myself well and truly defeated by this problem. I really hope that someone out there can figure what on earth is going on!

    Hi Man0fst331,
    Try the following:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe preference files are set to read/write
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot
Report back if anything here worked for you.

Both are referencing cooltype.dll. I ran Font Doctor on all system and non-system fonts and found no errors. Booted without Extensis Suitcase loading. Nothing works. All 32 bit programs work fine. Any clues would be appreciated.

It does not necessarily mean a "corrupt" font, but can be a font that PrPro, and PS, cannot handle.
Though I have read that changes have been made, Open Office's DejaVu font would crash PrPro's Titler - every time. There are quite a few others. Font Dr, and similar utilities, will not see the font(s) as corrupt, but they are so poorly designed, that PrPro and PS cannot deal with them.
Though it can be a long, drawn out process, one can often zero in on the problem font(s), with a little work. This is accomplished by first defining the "System Fonts," and not touching them. Then, uninstall half of the remaining fonts, and testing PrPro and PS. If they launch fine, you know that somewhere in that list of fonts, the problem exists. If there is still a failure to launch, chances are good that the problem font(s) reside in that half, that are still installed. Note: because the problem still exists, does not guarantee that there are NOT problem fonts in that uninstalled group, so keep that in mind.
Repeat the proces, by uninstalling half of the remaining fonts and testing.
If necessary, repeat by removing half of the now remaining fonts and testing.
When you get to a point, where you are no longer getting problems, reinstall fonts, in small groups, testing in between. The smaller the groups, the easier it will be to pinpoint the problem font(s).
Keep notes on which fonts you are uninstalling and reinstalling, until you narrow it down to the problem font(s).
I would start by uninstalling any "free fonts," and then commercial, 3rd party fonts. A lot of free fonts are just poorly designed, and can cause issues, though they might work fine in some other programs.
I use a font manager, so that I only have ~ 350 fonts installed at one time, and then dynamically install fonts, as needed for Projects. That keeps my machine clean, and if, upon installation, I get a crash/hang, I know that at least one font in that Set is causing it. This helps, as my workstation has ~ 19,000 fonts on it, and some are free fonts, and many are from 3rd parties. Some are also very, very old.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - one common cause for hangs on loading PrPro can be from VST's, used in Audio-editing. If you also have a lot of VST's, you could have two issues with two separate programs, i..e. PS hanging on fonts, and PrPro hanging on VST's. The results would be the same, but the causes could be different. That leads to even more work. For PrPro, also see this ARTICLE. If you get PS launching, but PrPro is still not functioning, drop by the PrPro Forum, and someone can help you there.

  • Premiere Pro CC keeps crashing upon opening

My premiere pro CC keeps crashing upon opening.  I'm using a Dell Latitude 3340.  I keep getting this message above.  I've updated my video card, logged out and back into creative cloud, tried deleting preferences, and a few other things.  Any idea how to help?
    Thanks,

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 crashing constantly

Premiere Pro CC was great. Premiere Pro CC 2014 is not so great!
Constantly crashing every time I go to render after a while.
It happens so inconsistently I cannot explain.
I wish Adobe would see this post and contact me to resolve.
We pay for 5 seats every month and should not have to deal with software crashing constantly.
    Thanks,

Hi, I have the same problem too.
Premiere pro cc 2014 crash constantly. I found problem in the overflow of RAM when I quickly scan (review) my clips on the timeline or resize the clips.

  • Premiere Pro 5.5 crashes when importing mpg file

Premiere Pro 5.5 crashes when importing mpg file.
I can get the file to import if I first right click the file and tell it to "open in source monitor" then tell it to import.
When I do this it indexes the file. After it is done indexing is when I can then import the file.
Should I not just be able to tell it to import and it does the indexing?
These files that I am tryig to open were with Premiere Pro 4.

    Welcome to the forum.
What are the specs. of this MPEG file? Might be something in those, that is causing an issue.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere Pro 2014 is crashing and freezing and I have to use force quit to get it to shut down.

Premiere Pro 2014 is crashing every day. i am running Premiere Pro 2014 on a 2013 imac with 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5 with 16  GB RAM. Playback on premiere continually freezes and the program crashes. Or the playback will start to freeze and then I save and close the project file/program, but the program will not close and I have to force quit. This is extremely frustrating. Premiere Pro CC was super stable and I rarely if ever had a problem. I have changed my permissions to give myself read/write. I have created a new project file in 2014 and then imported all my sequences from my updated project file but none of these strategies have worked. I am considering creating a new project file and going back to working solely in CC because I am on a deadline and troubleshooting this issue is taking up so much time.

I have had to force quit PP CC four times today. The fourth was when it crashed while trying to reopen it. I have had exactly the same problems as described above. I have no solutions to offer. I will go through a week of constant Premiere Pro bugs and poor performance then experience a period that seems too good to be true only to end up having a day like today. I can't believe that they call this a professional editing suite. It just wastes so much of my time pissing around trying to fix things and managing all the extra render and preview files it makes each time I have to save a new copy of a project which usually results in renaming it. It gets confusing after a while. Really not happy with this and have begun to learn Avid so as soon as this project is done, PP will be history.

  • Premiere Pro CC keeps CRASHING - Mac

Premiere Pro has been crashing for over a year. Even before I upgraded to CC.
Sometimes it will crash more than 5 times in 10 minutes. Longest it has run is just under an hour without crashing.
Everytime it crashes it says "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your project."
Now I am editing a project trying to import an AAF file and it keeps crashing on import.
I have done a full uninstall, used CC Cleaner. Reinstalled and it still crashes.
The log I get from the crash is massive but happy to paste it here if it helps. Let me know.

  • Premiere Pro 2.0 crashes - Avi deleted

    Hello,
Today I Had to insert a Time Code in film that belonged to a project made with Premiere Pro 1.5. I Installed PPro 2.0. I opened the project and i was able to insert the TC and Export it to a Quicktime File. But right after the export, Premiere Pro 2.0 crashed. It appeared the message "Premiere has found an unexpected error. We will try to save your project". After a while the program shut down. I rebooted the computer, and when i restarted the program i found out that not only my project file had dissappeared, but also the Avi's Captured from tapes. I recovered the project from a previous autosave but most of the clips are offline. The most surprising thing is that checking the scratch disk, it has the same Gb occupied than it had before the "deletion" of the avis. So, I suppose they are still there but a cannot read them. Is that correct? How Can I retrieve them?
Thanks in advance for your responses,
    Salvador Savarese
    Buenos Aires, Argentina

I'm with Bill in that I've never seen Premiere delete either a project file or actual media, even after an error like that.  Chances are more than likely the reported problem is partly due to operator error.
For example, clips being offline isn't the same as actual media being deleted from the hard drive.  My very strong suspicion is that you have a case of the former, not the latter.  If that's the case, then it's also very likely your original project is still on the hard drive, right where you left it, even if it doesn't appear in the recent projects list upon startup of Premiere.

  • Why does my Premiere Pro CC always crash?

I am having the same issues - constant crashing of Premiere Pro CC.
Crashes during edits - crashes in exports.
Mostly is just hangs and is in the dreaded "not responding" mode.
I run a small independent production business and never experienced this amount of issues
    with CS6.
    I have a Samsung Desktop.Windows 8, Running Intel Core i5, RAM 8GB, 64 Bit Operating System
    Please can anyone help?
Not running games or very much other intensive software - this is my work computer.
    What can I do?
    Thanks

  • Premiere Pro cc14 keeps crashing... Yes, for me too.

Premiere Pro cc14 keeps crashing, freezing and I keep having to force quit it, start again, and then after another little while (5-10min) - it does it again and again and again and again... you get the drift.
I am on a MacBook Pro retina.
Specs are like those or better that those recommended for the software so I doubt it's a machine problem.
    But in a nutshell:
SSD (500gb with over 50gb available)
    8gb Ram
NVIDIA graphics card (one of the recommended ones for Mac for this software)  - Updated the CUDA driver and thought it was going to resolve the issue but it didn't (1gb)
    2.6ghz intel core i7 processor
Working on Mark3 footage off a usb3 harddrive (which I always do and this never has been a problem ever before).
This is unacceptable considering this is a service we pay, we are a professional boutique filmmaking business and we cannot work in those conditions.
Thought it was the computer, turns out it's most likely your software! So please a fix that WORKS is needed.
    Thoughts? Advice?
Thinking of going back to normal CC which was working just fine... but need to see this project through for now as you can't save the project for a previous version of PP (nice one!)

    stephbubble,
I was talking about the Intel Graphics Card. Please check if you have an Intel Graphics Card alongside the NVIDIA Graphics Card. Have you tried that Graphics Switching option?
If that doesn't help, try this:
    Go to the following locations:
Location 1: When in Finder, click on Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
    Location 2: Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe
    Location 3: Documents > Adobe
In all the locations, rename the 'Adobe' folders to 'OldAdobe'
Launch Premiere, accept the License Agreement and see if it works.
Note: You will lose your customized workspaces and keyboard shortcuts.
    Thanks,
    Rameez

  • Premiere Pro 5.5 Crashing w/ Dual Video Cards

As soon as I disable one or the other of the graphics adaptors and run a single card the issue disappears.
Both cards (and all three monitors) have the latest drivers installed.
Premiere Pro 5.5 has all available updates/patches applied.
Do my graphics cards have to be matched?
    Is there a different solution?
    Thanks
    M

    I have the same problem.
PPRO 5.5. starts up correctly, Sometimes it works for a short while, then after a command (random) it freezes and I have to manually shut down windows 7 to stop PPRO searching for a solution
It started as far as I think after installing a second card for the 3th monitor (same branch, same drivers).
    This is my configuration:
    SSD Corsair 115GB Force Series 44558 P8P67 EVO v3.0 (1155) ATX 2*DDR3 8GB 1333 XMS CL9 Kit2 Dominator DH GEFORCE ENGTX570 DCII/2DIS/1280MD5 GEFORCE GT 520 silent (3th monitor) 2*DVDRW Samsung sata WIN7 pro 64 bits 2*HDD Samsung 1TB 7200 Core i7-2600 3.4Ghz 6MB 1155 SONATA IV 620W 80+ ADOBE PPRO 5.5, Encore 5.5, Audition 5.5
As given in many discussions about working with a 3th monitor there are oft problems, and suggests are same branch, same drivers.
But this is not enough, I presume, anyone suggestions to make the system more stable with a 3th monitor working?
It seems strange to me that a professional editing software cannot work with a 3th monitor. In the past I used a MATROX 100 card for the 3th monitor,

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 crashing while opening any project but new

Premiere Pro keeps crashing when I attempt to open any previously saved project.
If media to a project is not linked, it will open the box to relink, but selecting "link" or "offline" both lead to a crash once the workspace attempts to load.
I am on a 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7 iMac. AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB with Lion 10.7.4. I updated my PP and Media Encoder.
I have the Master Suite CS5.5, but mostly live in PS, AI and DW. I searched through the discussions and found a number of posts regarding crashes, but they all seem to have different problems/solutions. The issue is now over my head. Any suggestions?
Also, I read on a few discussions that it is recommended to run PP on a seperate machine because when a problem arises it is easier to discover its cause. If I don't have the means to do this, are there any tips for it to run seamlessly?
Below is the script from problem report.
    Thanks for your time,
    George
[Please don't post full crash reports in the forum.  It makes scrolling through a thread very unwieldy.  If an Adobe staff member wants to see one, you can PM the report separately.]

The first thing that I would do is to look over this FAQ Entry, and then post the details - the more the better. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/961741?tstart=0
If your Projects are behaving as the OP's were, and the media is in a similar place, be sure to list everything.
    Good luck,
