Premiere Pro 4.2.1 Preview Sequence Issue

Purchased CS5.5 with the 32-bit compatibility pack, i.e. Premiere Pro 4.2.1, but I am unable to correctly playback sequence items. They either appear in purple and green or just as a still image with sound when playback is selected. the AVI file plays back with Windows Media Player and a number of other players without issue.
The workstation runs Windows XP 32-bit.
I initially thought it may be a graphics card or codec issue, however if I install an old copy of Premiere Pro 4 on another identical machine, that works okay until the 4.2.1 upgrade is downloaded from the Adobe website and applied to it.

Unfortunately I can not install the version 4.0.0 copy first and then apply CS5.5 due to licence key incompatibilites. Any suggestions please.

Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project

Premiere Pro CS 4 Video Preview

I have upgraded after much deliberation from Premiere Pro CS2 to the new Premiere Pro CS4 and have a major issue. Hope someone in the usergroup can assist with this.
I am running an AMD Athlon 2.8 with 2ghz RAM, terrabyte drive (IDE), 256 MG AGP Nvideo GeForce graphics card.
The issue is that when I capture a video project and want to edit it there is nothing in the preview window selected. I can drag the footage to the timeline and again, in the second window there is nothing when playing back. However, when I stop playback and click in the preview window the last frame is displayed.
I can play again, audio works fine, but no video playback is rendered in the window.
I never had any issues with CS2 working in this manner. The above issue also occurs when a (working) CS2 project is opened in CS4 (after converting). I have also read other forums about the 12bit 32 kHz and 16bit 48 kHz properties of Avi files but have tried different settings from my Sony camera without any change in results.

I have updated Windows XP SP3 with all current updates.
I have downloaded and updated the Nvidia GeforceFX5500 drivers (which were the ones I was using)
I updated direct x to the latest version.
OpenGL is not available or I don't know how to configure it. Noticed this was greyed out in Photoshop and unable to select it.
Also captured new footage with CS4 without success after it was conformed as suggested.
I have no issues with CS2 which I have put back on the machine.
Neither the source or preview windows display video footage with cs2 captured files, cs4 captured files, imported avi files. But, noticed that if I created titles and imposed over static images they will display in the preview window but once it gets to captured footage it stops on the last frame of the title image. The audio continues but the video does not.

Why Adobe Premiere multicam is restricted to only four 4 cameras? While other softwares like FCP offers 9 cameras and Edius 6 offers 16 cameras previews. Edius 6 also offers proxy mode for smooth editing. Once you have done multicam edit you can turn off proxy mode. Also in Edius 6 you can full screen any preview window Multicam window, source window and program window etc on any monitor if you have multi views like 1,2 and 3 displays. In Adobe Premiere pro's every version Previews monitor windows have very bad quality but in Edius 6, Speed Edit 2.0, Previews windows never loose qualiy werther full scerren or half. Quality remains same. I want Adobe to fix these issues. Premiere will Rock.

Premiere pro cs5 : audio and video sync issue with .aiff file format

I am using premiere pro cs5 on MAC and facing issue with audio and video sync using .AIFF file format for audio unable to make it work.

Premiere Pro CC 2014 ram preview or MPEG2 output is clipped with black on lower third

On my System Win 8.1 X64 Premiere Pro CC 2014 ram preview or MPEG2 output is clipped with black on lower third.
Premiere Pro CC had no problem, but as I upgraded to CC 2014 this problem revealed.
I clean installed Win 8.1 and Premiere Pro CC 2014, but the problem exist.
Please Help me reveal and solve the problem.

Premiere Pro "3 frame" render preview glitch

When I create a render preview in Premiere Pro, sometimes the render preview renders the same frame for three consecutive frames. In other words, after the render preview is complete, the render preview creates three consecutive frames that are the same, and then moves on to the fourth frame. It looks like a jump cut where there is none. this costs me a lot of time, since to fix it I have to unrender and then rerender my render preview.
How can I avoid this problem?

Hey Ann, I know that deleting the render files and rerendering will work. But this costs me a lot of time.
Is there a way to avoid this glitch in the first place?
It happens quite often. Am I doing something to cause this glitch?

Premiere Pro CC Mac - Yellow preview bar with ProRes clips?

Hello:
Even though I've made sure that my sequence settings are exactly matching my clip settings (ProRes4444 or 422HQ) I'm getting a yellow bar over my sequence.
I'm working on a 2012 Mac Pro running OS 10.7.5. I downloaded Premiere Pro CC earlier today; I thought I'd play around with it to see how it compares to FCP7. Most of my NLE usage is very simple, just assembling sections of motion graphics and 3D animations rendered out of After Effects in the ProRes 4444 codec.
The "New Sequence from Clip" function isn't behaving as I'd expect. The comparable feature in FCP creates a sequence that matches all aspects of the selected clip (size, framerate, codec, etc.). The Premiere implementation appears to only match the sequence size and framerate to the selected clip.
If I create a new sequence from a ProRes clip, or tell the sequence to match the clip, I'd expect that clip to be sitting in my timeline with no bar of any color. But I get a yellow bar. When I go to Sequence Settings I see that the editing mode is Arri Camera, and the Video Preview is greyed out on an MPEG format. I have to go to Custom and manually select Quicktime, then specifiy the matching ProRes codec. Shouldn't those wrapper and codec settings be matched automatically too when I've specified that function?
That said, if I go in and manually match the codec settings to my clip I still get the yellow bar. If I select another sequence and click back on the new sequence the yellow bar is gone.
I'm assuming that this yellow bar issue is a display error of some sort, because if I export the sequence with "Match Sequence Settings" selected the export happens very quickly as I would expect with a Smart Render-compatible sequence.
Is this a bug?

Thanks for the reply, but did you read the body of my question or just send me off to this blog post based on only the title of my post? Believe me, I read that post, plus several others regarding the color of the preview bars, and I spent an hour meticulously troubleshooting the issue.
Unless I'm missing something, nothing in that post to which you link explains why I'd be getting a yellow bar on a sequence that exactly matches the clip's settings, or why that yellow bar would disappear when I select another sequence and then click back on the original one.
Also, is the behavior of "New Sequence from Clip" I'm observing correct, in that that function won't conform the sequence to the wrapper or codec of the selected clip?

Premiere Pro 2014 8.1 Poor Performance Issues

I'm having the following issues across Premiere, Audition, and Media Encoder:
1. Slow, choppy, unpredictable playback in the timeline
     -I'm using a Blackmagic Ultrastudio 4K for monitor output, and that plays out smooth in general
2. Overall UI lag
     -Clicking between files
     -Clicking between Sequence tabs
     -Clicking on clips in Icon view and scrubbing is slow
3. Export and Media Encoder Presets buggy
     -Cannot change the settings for codecs (button is non-selectable)
     -Media Encoder crashes when exporting certain presets (h.264, etc.)
4. Specifically, I've tried transcoding a ProRes LT 1080p 23.98 Sequence > ProRes LT 720p 59.94 Quicktime for playback on an Atomos Samurai Blade. This workflow
worked fine until I updated to 8.1.
The only solutions I've seen thus far have been to trash prefs and clean the cache, but I honestly think there may need to be a major cleanup on Adobe's end.
Anyone else having issues like these?

I have a list, which I'll amend according to your system.
Try the following:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
Update any GPU driversYou have AMD, so you can't do this with Mac OS X.
Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe preference files are set to read/write
This one causes a lot of performance issues in Mavericks and YosemiteImportant: Pay attention to the step about “Apply to enclosed items…”
You can also rename the folders recommended in the blog post
Delete media cache
Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installedThis was a bug fixed in 8.0.
Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
Disconnect any third party hardwareDisconnect any BMD or external drives (if you can)
See if changing the setting for the Mercury Playback Engine to Software only helps
Do a test with a brand new project and non-QuickTime/ProRes source and see if you have those issues.Projects updated from 8.0 and 8.0.1 might have issues updating to 8.1.
Make sure all other applications are closed, including web browsers and other Adobe applications.
Disable App Nap
Reboot
Report back if anything here worked for you.

Adobe Premiere Pro crashes on video preview

Hello,
I was recently working on a project and had Premiere Pro opened, then I had to update my video card drivers, because I had all sort of visual glitches in my games, occasionally when watching movies and the drivers were completely crashing every now and then. At some point during the update my screen went all azure-colored and my computer was completely non-responsive, so I had to restart it, after some waiting. After which the drivers appear to have been installed correctly but when I tried to start Premiere it crashed after loading my project. After a reinstall the same thing kept on occurring, it turned out premiere can start by itself with no problems and even import video files, but the moment I put the video file on the preview window, either by dragging it or by putting it in the timeline, Premiere crashes.
My stupid video card is "SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X R9 270X 2G G5", like I said I updated the drivers, because it was causing problems, it is still uncertain if the update fixed those issues, but now I have a problem with Premiere, which was working fine before that.
I also cleared the media caches, no effect. The crash occurs with any video file, not just with my last project.
Any ideas?

Will do, however in the meantime I found out Premiere works fine if in a new project I set the rendering to be only software, without the GPU, also in all cases audio import, preview and playback are unaffected.
I was sort of hoping I could play games AND rend video, what are the chances of that?

AVCHD Premiere Pro CS6 (6.0.5) Audio issue!!!

I've updated to v6.0.5 yet no joy with either audio on the time line nor playback! I've only used media browser to import/play AVCHD files I've copied directly to my HDD from my Sony HDR SR12. VLC player has no issues with playback. I've hunted Google for answers to no avail. I have no issues with other formats. I also don't have AVCHD presets but I'm sure that's not an issue. Other formats don't either, yet they work. Any information would be fantastic. Thank you in adavance.

Actually, that is an issue. See this FAQ for a possible fix: FAQ: Why are some codecs and sequence presets missing from my installation of Premiere Pro?
The activation process for CS6 involves choosing Help > Deactivate, restart Premiere Pro, then choose Help > Activate.

Premiere Pro CS5: Unable to preview

I just installed Premiere Pro CS5 on my Macbook Pro. I'm currently trying to test it out to see how well it will run on the laptop. I'm having some problem with previewing the video. It will only preview a couple seconds of the clip then stop. I'm wondering if this is due to the new requirements by the Mercury Engine, or if it's something else. I have tried to knock down the preview resolution to half and still nothing. I should say that I am only working on DV footage, and I'm running Snow Leopard with 2 gb of RAM. I have had no problem using past versions of Premiere Pro with this set up.

I am having same problem on my Mac Pro - Snow Leopard 2.93 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon - 8GB ram - ATI Radeon HD 4870 graphics card. I hit the space bar to playback movie -plays for a few frames and stops. I also have a 17" Mac book pro 2.8 GHz Intel core 2 Duo 6GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. no problems running Premiere Pro. I have uninstalled and re-installed twice on the Mac Pro - each time file permissions were all screwed up - fixed them but playback problem remains. Anyone have ideas on how to solve problem?
I took the plunge and called Adobe support( 2-1/2 hrs.on the phone). It seems this issue is one of permissions. After going through all of the things I had already done with the tech guy - changing the permissions of all of the applications folders and the preference folders and then deleting the preferences files - I was told to open a root account and login as root. Then open all of the Adobe programs in the root account that I was having trouble with-( in my case the timelines in Premiere and Sound Booth were not working and the sound files in Encore were not playing ) When I did this they all worked perfectly ( apparently logging in as root fixed the permission issues ). Then I was told to restart and login into my admin account. That seemed to do it. Good Luck - Hope that will help you - Darma-Me

Premiere Pro CS4.2.1 preview window has become jerky (more details)

I am using a PC, Quadcore (Athlon II X4) 64 bit Windows 7, 4 internal Hard drives (all single partitions, NTFS), 8GB RAM. I am using Production Premium CS4. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon 4850 running the latest Catalyst drivers (or at least the ones from 3 days ago). I am using 2 TFT monitors, both running at a resolution of 1280x1024.
The hard drives are arranged as:
80GB windows drive (where CS4 is installed): 14GB free
500GB: Cache files stored here: 270GB free
2TB: raw footage for a new project: 844GB free
1.5TB: scratch files and all other project files stored on here: 204GB free
I put in a new Internal 2TB harddrive & installed a black magic plugin for some high def footage (the decklink software from www.blackmagic-design.com)
All preview playback in Premiere Pro has become jerky and unmanageable: only a few frames per second. Before installing the blackmagic plugin playback was smooth with all video sizes, now I can only achieve smooth playback with a tiny (~10% size) preview video.
I tried uninstalling the black magic plugin and changing catalyst control centre settings (regarding playback) neither of which worked. I tried to do a system restore on the windows drive, but this failed. I also tried disabling hard disk indexing for windows search in case this was having an effect, but it seems to have made no difference.
I have tried everything could find on message boards; old DV footage that was fine previously will no longer play smoothly it seems likely to me that this is a software configuration issue.
I have an ATI Radeon 5670 card which I'm going to try today. Other people have mentioned switching to nVidia cards, but I don't want to shell out for a new graphics card unless it is guaranteed to solve the problem once and for all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, if any more details would be useful then let me know and I'll post more information.

I've just removed a large number of temporary files, uninstalled a few unnecessary programs (e.g. nero) and have moved the swap space away from the OS drive to being spread over the other drives. I've disabled disk indexing, removed unnecessary windows services and run CCleaner. I also followed (most of) your guide on setting a system up for optimum performance.
I should note that Windows Media Player doesn't have a problem with playing large files, and so it appears the problem is localised to Adobe software.
The time taken to render DV footage has increased dramatically almost tenfold. This is something of a guess, but could Adobe be using the CPU to render video instead of the GPU?
This might not be relevant, but the timeline bar flickers when I'm previewing a video.
Disk space is now:
80GB:    43GB free
500GB:   255GB free
2TB:       696GB free
1.5TB:    349GB free
I tried creating a project that didn't use the 1.5TB disk, but it exhibited the same problem.

CS4 Premiere Pro General file format & preview problems

I was redirected here after posting my complaint on Twitter, so please excuse my forum manner.
I've been using Adobe Premiere Pro (CS4) for about a year now, and I've been editing videos along with other packages with no problem. (Only problem being my slow processor). Up until last week Premiere Pro has been completely fine. But seeing I have a project deadline next month, I thought I would spend a day trying to kick-start the video editing.
My source videos were originally photograph-frames animated in Flash CS4 into .MOV, decided to use the H.264 output codec. As I have finished exporting my needed videos, I imported them into Premiere Pro as usual, as I have in the past. But then I encountered the common problem that I have seen quite a few have also encountered with .MOV, or jsut general "no-preview" problem when the source video is fine.
I then took a day to research online about Premiere Pro's compatability with .MOV, among other container and formats. Upon using softwares such as MediaInfo and GSpot, I found that there might have been a problem with missing Codecs within my Adobe package. I then tried to convert the .MOV into .MPG (mpeg2), hoping such standard codec would work with Premiere Pro as they they in the past. No result avail.
I then turned to the uninstall route (retaining user info) and re-installing. The problem has NOT been fixed, what's more is that it crashes almost instantly after I try rendering the workplace. (Even post-rendering does not show the preview, but the files in the Adobe folder, does). Here's a screencap to my latest workplace, if it helps:

Before the re-install, I believe I was running Premiere Pro CS4's latest update (4.2.x) something, now it is back to 4.0.0. But I don't think that is where the main problem is? I recently changed my locale from a certain language to Japanese to run a certain program. Would that be causing the problem(s)?
Does anyone know a way that I can FIX this? Any help is appreciated and I thank you all in advance.

I have updated my CS4, Ppro to 4.2.1. The problem still remains. Would it have anything to do with my project setting? I don't have much knowledge to setting one up. The difference between the AVC projects and etc?
EDIT : I took the problem to my lecturer, and he didn't do anything out of the ordinary, but his "magic touch" click on the preview panel (Main composition) has made the video show up! But even after render, it won't play. But scrubbing along frames is now fixed. Any idea what's causing the no-preview-playback?

Premiere Pro CC and Dynamic Link Manager Issues

I have a previously purchased copy of Adobe Production Premium CS5 installed on my computer as well as a subscription to CC with a few apps installed.
I had a project opened in Premiere Pro CC, off of an external hard drive, and as I was working on it, trying to open it in Speedgrade. I decided to install Audition. However, it prompted me to close the dynamic link manager. Once I did, my project began messing up. As I tried to open the program, my sequences and merged clips disappeared and I don't know what to do. My semester project is due tomorrow. Premiere won't let me open the file (neither cs5 and CC) and the ones that do open have all the clips but no sequence nor merged clips that I previously had. I did notice that the dynamic link is no longer opened in task manager after restarting and restoring the system(with the ejected hard drive). How do I reopen it? And, will it solve the problem?

Unfortunately that specifically did not work.
Based on another comment sent to me, here is what did.
In PProCC
File > Adobe Dynamic Link > New After Effects Composition
In AECC
From that composition created from PPro, I imported the project (aep) initially created in AECC from another team member. Saved the file.
Back in PProCC
File > Adobe Dynamic Link > Import After Effects Composition
Magic.

Premiere Pro 2014.2 jumbling open Sequence tabs

It appears I'm not the only one experiencing frequent crashes. As incredibly soul crushingly annoying as they are, their disruptive impact is multiplied by my open sequence tabs being... randomized... when I re-open the project. A normal SAVE and OPEN is NOT SAVING my sequence tabs accurately.
So if I've got 20 of my most important sequence tabs open. And the program crashes (or even if I just save and close it properly) when I open it up again, I've got to close the wrong sequence tabs and open the correct sequence tabs to get back to the workspace I had before the crash.
...the frequent crashes, I mean.
My editing progress has ground to a crawl.
If Adobe would like a proper bug report on this, could someone please direct me to bug reporting? The page was down before, and I don't know if it is up, or where to find it.

I too have the same problem. It is very annoying considering I manage dozens of projects daily and it takes a damn good memory to remember wich sequence I was working on cause some of my projects contain many sequences with many versions of an edit.

SSD Raid system drives
A hint to what might be happening is that every time I close the application, I get a crash window that tell me that Premiere Pro as stopped working. So basically it is not finalizing the shut down and this could very well be the problem.
