Premiere Pro 6.0.2 - no CUDA playback

I'm on a Retina Display Macbook Pro with the latest CUDA drivers installed. I just updated to 6.0.2 this morning and got playback using all three new modes : Software, OpenCL, and CUDA. All three worked when I was using the internal Retina Display. When I connected the laptop to my two Apple Thunderbolt Displays ( chained together ), the CUDA playback no longer works. OpenCL and Software playback still work as expected.
Is CUDA playback faster / lighter  on the system than OpenCL playback? I'm editing 5k .r3ds and would like to use whichever is faster.
My guess is this is just a bug. Hoping Adobe sees this and fixes.
Thanks.

  • Does Premiere Pro 2 use graphics card for playback?

Does Premiere Pro 2 use graphics card for playback? I am using a 350W PSU, so my nVidia 6600GT runs in low-power mode, and my video playback in Premiere is choppy. The same .avi files play fine in a media player, so it can't be a disc issue I guess... Please advise, thank you!

Only the latest CS5 uses SELECTED card's GPU for video acceleration
    >same .avi files play fine in a media player
Playback is not at all the same as editing
Use the FREE http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ to find out what codec is inside that AVI wrapper
Anything other than DV AVI type 2 with 48khz sound is not going to do well in Premiere

  • Exporting in Premiere Pro with a GTX 980 CUDA takes 4 hours

Okay, this problem has been plaguing me ever since I upgraded to a new PC with some very high end hardware. I'm trying to export a 25 minute h.264 encoded mp4 file from an AVI video and PCM audio source, however, exporting it using YouTube 1080p preset takes over 4 hours. This used to never happen before, even on my old laptop which had a GTX 675M card and would take 1.5 hours at most.
The source files I use through video capture is AVI with MPEG-1(VBR) 1920x1080 resolution with 29.97 frames/second. The audio source is PCM WAV 48.0KHz stereo.
The preset I have for exporting in Premiere Pro/AME CC 2014 is:
video: h.264 format, 1.0 square pixel, 29.97 frames/second, Progressive scan
    bitrate: VBR(1 pass), target/max: 8.0 Mbps
    audio: AAC 192kbps, 48kHz stereo
The hardware I am using is a Gigabyte x99 ud-4 motherboard with G.Skill Ripjaws 16GB DDR4 2400Mhz RAM, i7-5820K CPU 3.30 GHz, Windows 7 64bit OS, with an Nvidia GTX 980 card with CUDA enabled in both Premiere and the Nvidia Control Panel. Yet, I am still getting over 4 hours rendering time during my exports for a 20-30min video source? I  am completely stumped on this and it's unbelievably frustrating to see my top of the line system take so long to render this file when my 2-3 year old laptop did the export in 1/3rd of that time? I do this as a hobbyist and any help on trying to get this fixed would be a major help to me. Thank you in advance!

    Hmmm...
I did a quick test in your behalf with a test project with and without "alpha glow" applied to all of the media.
The results were actually kind of strange:
    - export to .mp4 utilized all cores (6-core box w/ Hyperthreads) with a smooth 82% utilization for the whole export; memory usage (also from task manager) went up and once it hit a maximum, it stayed there
    - export to .mp4 with "alpha glow" applied -> CPU usage started out pretty good, then memory usage maxed out and then actually cam down; after a bit, the CPU usage stabilized at around 22%, or about 25% of what it had been at the start of the export
Smells to me like an Adobe bug or design-flaw.
Anyway, good luck with your testing.
I totally agree with Bill's suggest to do a full PPBM7 test on your new rig and report the scores back here - and to the PPBM7 site of course. This will help you to have confidence in your new hardware and setup. Once your hardware and configuration (for Win7, drive caching, Premiere settings, etc.) are working fine, then your particular workflow, etc. can be a separate troubleshooting step.
    Good luck!

    Jim

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Extreme Lag / Choppiness In Playback Please Help

I have a brand new Windows 8.1 Desktop
1 GB Video Card AMD Radeon 7700
    16 GB Ram
    3.4 Ghz i7-3770 CPU
Scratch Disk on an external drive that spins at 7200 RPM
I'm coming from a Macbook Pro (with less specs then the current desktop I'm using) in which I had no problem with playback choppiness/lag with premiere pro cs6, so this has been quite frustrating to figure out.  I've looked at several other threads, etc and there has been little help on the subject it seems.  If anyone has any tips, advice, or can point me in the right direction to get rid of the lag/choppyness that would be a blessing.

    Okay I solved the problem.
If anyone else encounters this here's how you solve it.
    Goto "Sequence"
    Goto "Sequence Settings"
Here you will see "Video Previews"
    Preview File Format
I switched from "Microsoft AVI" to "P2 720p 60hz dvcprohd"
Now there is no lag/choppiness in any of my video preview files.  HOORAY!

  • Premiere Pro CS4.2.1 crashes/jittery playback when scrubbing timeline

With just PP CS4.2.1 open, my program crashes when scrubbing the timeline as well as exhibits jittery playback after scrubbing the timeline. This is a PC system, Microsoft Vista Business 64bit with SP2, 500GB SATA2 hard drive (system), (3) 1-TB SATA2 hard drives (storage), (2) Intel Xeon Quad Core E5560, 2.8 ghz processors, 8 mb cache.
I have (2) workstations with similiar setups and show the same issue. It doesn't happen with any consistency but requires constant control-S saves to make sure the project doesn't crash when you don't want it to.
I just converted from PP 1.5.1 to this with a complete new setup. This setup (on both machines) has proven to be less stable than the older system with 1.5.1
Figure it's something similar with system build as it's happening on both machines and/or it's something in/with Premiere CS4.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 playback freezing and crashing with new iMac i7

Using Premiere Pro CC 2014 and having constant playback freezing and software crashes on a brand new iMac i7.
    Here are the specs:
    iMac i7 4.0GHz 5k Retina
    32 GB Ram
    AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB graphics card
    512GB Solid State Drive
I was on chat yesterday with an Adobe tech. Although playback/render settings show the OpenCL option to utilize the AMD graphics card for processing, I was advised to switch to "Software Only" as that card is not supported yet. I had to re-render my 45 minute documentary (which doesn't appear to be any faster than it was on my old 2011 iMac by the way) and it still has the same issues.
So frustrating? Anyone else experiencing this? Any advice? I hope I didn't just buy this "super machine" in vein.
    Thanks,

    Hi All,
Taking some tips from Kevin Monahan. If you haven't already gone through this list please do so.
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe preference files are set to read/write
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot

  • Playback Lag in Premiere Pro CS6 for Mac

I'm editing a project in Premiere Pro CS6 for Mac, and the playback is really laggy. Its fine if you're viewing one long clip, but it gets really laggy when it switches between clips. The sound will play, but the playback screen will be frozen on the last frame from the previous clip. I use the latest thin model of the iMac. Can anybody help me?

    >Premiere Pro CS6 with the 6.0.0 update
Is there a specific reason you have not applied the bug fix updates?
All Adobe updates start here and select product, read to see if you need to install
updates in number order, or if the updates are cumulative for the individual product
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
Also, only having one hard drive means your computer is having to "struggle" with file operations
An EXAMPLE concerning trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the
orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do
Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct
the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with
your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another
very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more on partitions) with Windows (or Mac OS)
and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is
not slowed down by trying to do everything
External eSata or USB3 are both fast enough for video editing... eSata is better -
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1117813
Do not try to use USB2 for video editing, it is too slow

  • MTS Playback Crashes Premiere Pro CC

    Hi Users,
I'm upgraded to the latest version of Premiere Pro CC. Recently, I noticed playback of MTS files crashes my Premiere session. A pop-up appears informing me that the application has experienced an error and must shut down.
Importing MTS files brings no issue. Premiere only acts up when I try to play them.
MTS files have worked in past iterations of Premiere (5.5, 6) so I wonder when this issue appeared.
    Thanks!

  • NVIDIA Geforce 840M with HP Envy 15 Lapytop - working with Adobe Premiere Pro

I have had this HPEnvy for a fortnight and am wondering for how much longer. I use the laptop extensively for video
editing, often away from home. To begin with, everything was fine. Now, just a fortnight later, it will often start Premiere Pro with the "Video Rendering and Playback" options greyed out even though the previous day it wasn't greyed out. When this happens, playing back video within Adobe Premiere, it runs for a few seconds and then becomes very jerky and stuttery.
I have tried updating ALL video card drivers.
I notice that there are two video cards displayed in Device Manager. One is the NVIDIA Geforce 840M, the other sometimes appears as 'Basic Microsoft***" and sometimes as Intel***. Should there be two display cards showing?
I would expect you to point me at Adobe but I believe something is happening BEFORE Premiere gets a look in.  The laptop seems sluggish when loading any software. Just for the record, I have uninstalled Premiere Pro CC and have restored the Laptop to it's "as delivered" condition. This took some time, of mcourse, but did not improve matters.
As things stand at present, I cannot use the Envy 15 for it's intended purpuse.
I would be grateful for any advice as to why this is happening. Has anyone else experieced it?
Many thanks for your time and expertese.
    Alan S.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

A little further information, following a full day of trying this and that!
It MAY be associated with the power pack. If I remove the mains power pack, it reliably boots and when Preiere CC is run, it allows selection of the CUDA/Mercury Playback options. If I boot the laptop with the mains power connected, then Premiere CC will not allow selection in the CUDA/Mercury box in Project Settings.
BTW the profile notes say I am running Windows NT. That should read Windows 8.1 - I am not sure where the NT came from!
    Thanks again,
    Alan S

(Premiere Pro CC 2014/8.2.0)

    Premiere Pro CC 2014(8.2.0)
    H.264のMOV、HDVのMPEG2、ProRes422(各種)のmov等、
    ■メディアキャッシュはUSB3.0(UASP接続)のSSD(リードライト実測約440MB)
    Premiere Pro CC(7.2.2)、Premiere Pro CS6

Final Cut Pro 7/Final Cut Pro X
    【Premiere Pro CC 2014(8.2.0)】

    ・OpenCL(高速処理)……

I have been using a Nikon D4 to shoot video for about a month.  I edit on a 15 in MacBook Pro Dual Quad 2.2MGh with 8GB of RAM.  I was shooting on a Nikon D3s and the video files were 720x1280 at 24p avi's.  The D4 is set at 720x1280 30p .mov and are H.264.  When I'm editing the D4 files I get a lot of stuttering and won't play in real time.  Has anyone run into this?  Do I need to encode my D4 files to Apple Pro Res for editing? If so, suggestions on an encoder?
