Premiere Pro 7.1 not opening on iMac running Mavericks

System Specs: OS X Version 10.9, 3.4 Ghz i7 iMac, 20GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB.
All Creative Cloud products updated to latest version.
I'll be happy to provide the crash report if it's helpful.
Simply put, Premiere Pro CC will no longer run. When I try to open the app, I see the splashscreen and it starts to load plugins, etc. but then crashes before getting to the New Project window. I can't open via opening a project or directly opening the app.
I've attempted resetting preferences, uninstalling, CC Cleaner-ing, and reinstalling the app. I've repaired disk permissions, reset pram... basically every classic OS X "fix" I know of.
Any other ideas on how to get my machine up and running? Any thoughts on the culprit?
The only plugins I know of on this machine are Red Giant products (Colorista II and Denoiser), FilmConvert and FxFactory. All have been updated to most current versions.

Hi david_sikes,
Please go to mac hd>library>application support>adobe>common>plugins>7.0>mediacore and move all the plugins to the desktop and then empty the mediacore folder.

Vinay

  • Premiere Pro CC does not open MOD files correctly

    Hi,
I just started using the Adobe Creative Cloud as a trial, in particular the Premiere Pro CC software, since it might be relevant, I am working on a mac (completely updated as of yesterday).
I have a JVC GZ-MG505 camcorder. This device saves the video files on an internal HDD in a file format called MOD. From what I have been able to see when searching on the web, this should be nothing more than a MPEG-2 file.
So, I tried importing some video files into Premiere Pro and to my surprise, I noticed that a whole strip on the right hand side of the image is missing. The original is recorded in a widescreen (16:9) format with 720x576 pixels and Premiere Pro gives me a file with 540x576 pixels. I have tried using the Interpret Footage to change this, but it doesn't let me change the number of pixels. I also tried opening the files in Adobe Media Encoder and I have exactly the same results as in Premiere Pro. However, opening the files in VLC or mPlayer they come out exactly as expected with all the pixels there. Has anyone come accross this problem before or can anyone help me with solving this?
I could try reencoding the files with VLC, but the output file is much smaller than the input file, so I am afraid I am loosing some definition.
So, just to restate my problem, the adobe products open my MOD files without complaining, but for some reason they loose a strip 180 pixels wide on the right hand side of the image.
    Cheers

Premiere Pro CC does not open MOD files correctly
That is correct: there is a bug in CC. In CS6 they work correctly.
    Please file a bug report.

search for mod files and you will find one or two other threads.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC does not open project - just hangs, no error message

I've just finished editing a project in PP CC, saved it, then tried to reopen it and the program shows a blank page, then hangs.  I get no error message.
The project is based off a PP 5.5 timeline.  It updates fine (and in fact I can open and convert the original timeline with no problem).  However, once I close the new version and try to reopen, this symptom occurs.
I have updated my Creative Cloud software and it shows the Premiere Pro is up to date.
My computer is an ASUS laptop running Windows 8.1 Pro
    i5 processor
    8GB RAM
    NVidea Geforce 610M+2GB graphics card
Need help as I have to have this project output and uploaded by 8am tomorrow.

This is a follow up to my original post and follow up.  I've now seen this issue several more times and realize it was not an issue with my USB drive.  It is an issue with the Dynamic Linking in Premiere.  I consider this a MAJOR BUG, so please note what I've found if you have an issue with archiving or opening projects done with previous versions of PP.
The issue I've found is that Premiere seems to lock up trying to find dead media links.  If you've archived a project or moved files from their original position, Premiere CC cannot seem to find them.  The result is not a system hang up, but just a blank screen.  In some cases, after leaving it for a couple hours it found the media and continued.
I've had a similar issue when trying to link 'dead' media with the actual files.  The system goes off into neverland.
The work around I've found is to import the older jobs into a new Premiere CC project.  At that point, replace any dead links (do NOT try and find the media as you'll be lost in hangupville) by importing the media again and replacing the clip in the sequence with the new import from the bin.  Once all your media is 'live', remove any unused media from the project and confirm there are no 'dead' links (you can look at the media icon and notice a ? if they are not dynamically linked properly).  Manually clear any remaining unlinked media.  Save the project.
I have started to use Project Manager to archive all Premiere projects when moving them from one server to another.
This is a total pain in the @ss, and nothing I've seen before Creative Cloud.  I hope that Adobe gets this resolved or I may consider dropping my subscriptions completely.  That is a huge investment, but this type of issue is too much trouble to manage for a small production company.
I welcome any other thoughts, fixes, or comments.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Cs6 Will Not Open

    I have an issue.
Essentially I began installing Adobe Premiere Pro, and it installed halfway before concluding it had allegedly finished installing all the updates.
This is not true as I cannot click the application in Creative Cloud, and my arrow remains as the standard cursor.
This is the second time this has happened, as I was forced to reinstall Creative Cloud and all of my Applications.
I thought a clean install would have helped the situation but it seems to have made no difference, there is no way to open this application, it merely says that it has been installed though is completely unusable.

    What is your operating system?
Yosemite sometimes has problems, often related to "default" permissions needing to be changed

  • Premiere Pro CS3 Will not open

New install of PremiereCS3 gets as far as the purple window (loading Dlls etc), never gets any further. Happened with 3.0 then downloaded the patch for 3.2.0 update, same problem. If I press ctrl+alt+del premiere is not shown to be running. I have tried other workarounds that have been posted eg creating new windows user account  and deleting workspace.cfg (interestingly
    F:\Documents and Settings\Nearlyworks.NEARLYWORKS\My Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\3.0 was empty - I created workspace.cfg, then deleted it, still won't open)
I previously had Cs3 running fine on a Athlon 64 200/Asus KV* deluxe 1gb system and worked fine but getting a bit slow esp with HDV so have rebuilt my system:
    GA-73PVM-S2H Motherboard
NVIDIA GeForce 7100 / nForce 630i Chipset - onboard graphics, shared system memory
    4gb Corsair RAM (DDR2 800)
    Intel E5200 CPU @ 2.5 Ghz
Creative Audigy zs2 platinum audio card using Kx project audio drivers
Windows XP pro (MCE) service pack 2
    No antivirus software
graphics appearance set to best performance (ie Windows classic look- no animated or translucent windows).
Screen resolution 1360 *768 32 bit (best fit appearance for LCD TV/monitor that I am using)
I have done a repair installation from disc, still no joy.
The only thing I remember is that during 1st installation a dialogue box came up suggesting I did not have minimum spec screen resolution - I didn't take of note of what it exactly said but my resolution appeared to be higher than what it wanted so I just scratched my head and continued.I have experimented with other monitor resolutions (which look wrong in terms of aspect ratios) to see if premiere opens but it still won't.
I have also installed Encore CS3 (that came with the Premiere disc) and this works fine.
Very frustrating to build a new system in the hope that premiere will run smoothly then find out it won't run at all.
Should I uninstall premiere and start again?
Any wisdom or answers most gratefully received.

When CS3 is attempting to load, what is the last entry with regards to the .dll's. You have to look closely to see them go by. I've found that setting up a video camera to shoot the screen can help. Just pause your tape at the point that it fails, and see which .dll it's struggling with.
If you have many VST plug-ins, one of those would be a likely candidate. Do you have any Audio programs, like Native Instruments? PrPro will survey your entire system, looking for VST's. Unfortunately, there are some that it cannot use. These usually give only an error message that appears the first time that PrPro tries to load that one. You never see that message again, even though PrPro still cannot use it. Most are fine and PrPro knows that it cannot use the VST. Others, will cause exactly what you are seeing.
Now, that is not the ONLY reason for such behavior, but I want to rule out VST's first. Still, that last line will give you a clue. It could be that .dll, or the next one (whatever that is), that is the issue. The .dll could be corrupt. If it's an Adobe .dll, your updates should have fixed it. If it's someone else's, then it could be tougher to track down. If you can get the name, then a search should tell you which folder and which program has that .dll.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere Pro cloud will not open...

Installed Creative Cloud for a 30 day trial.  Photoshop and other files seem to work fine, but I can not get Premiere Pro CC to open for me.  Any suggestions?

Also, What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself
    ATI Driver Autodetect http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool
    nVidia Driver Downloads http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Do you have dual graphics adapters?
Go to the Windows Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound and then select Device Manager... In Device manager you click the + sign to the left of Display Adapters... and see if 2 are listed

  • Premiere Pro CC will not open any prproj files.

I'm working on a feature length.  We have a premiere in 2 weeks!  My PC computer shut down yesterday afternoon so I did not restart.  (It sometimes does this)  When I switched it on this morning, I tried to start Premiere Pro but it moved at a crawl and then went into a Not responding mode.  I tried several other times to no avail.  I did an update...no help.  I uninstalled Premiere Pro and reinstalled...still will not open a file.  I need to finish this edit!!!  Any help is appreciated.

I agree, Jim. Ronn, check out this blog post I wrote on the topic: http://blogs.adobe.com/kevinmonahan/2014/01/13/computer-shuts-down-with-premiere-pro-or-af ter-effects/

  • Premiere Pro CC will not open

Premiere Pro will not open/start. I click on the icon from the start menu and nothing happens. I've cleaned out my installs and reintalled so many times only to have the apps work once and then not work the next time I reboot. Grrr!

Sounds like the program is not actually closing.  Check Task Manager to be sure it's not still in memory, as it won't restart if it is.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 not optimized for iMac 5K graphics card?

I have the new iMac 5k with the AMD Redeon R9 M295X 4 GB GDDR5 graphics card. In Premiere Pro CC 2014 (updated to the latest version), when I go to "project settings" and select "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration," I get a pop-up window that reads: "the selected renderer hardware has not been certified." Does this mean that Premiere Pro is not optimized for these video cards? If I still choose to select GPU acceleration, will I see any performance boost?
Thanks in advance for any responses.

It means Adobe has not tested the card.
If you can select the card you are OK.

  • CC and Premiere Pro CS6 will not open

I have downloaded and installed the app twice.
I go into Creative Cloud and I can see Premiere Pro CS6 is an installed app but i can not click on it to run it.
At this point is have spent an hour trying to run one app.
I get no error it just does nothing.......
Just want to try it... So far it is not looking good....

What about the Program Files location? If you don't see it there, use the CC cleaner tool to uninstall the apps and then reinstall again. Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Premiere Pro CS6 does not recognize USB PnP Sound device connected  to iMac OSX even when activated in Audio MIDI setup. The iMac(i-7 processor,16 GB)   is working with this USB device without any problem

Premiere Pro CS6 does not recognize the USB PnP Sound device in order to produce a commentary sound track. The USB device has been activated on the iMac OSX by using the Audio-MIDI-setup and is working correctly with the iMac. When opening > presets >audio hardware I can only select between >standard >out  integrated > digital input integrated >microphone integrated. USB PnP is not indicated at this place.
With the built-in microphone of the iMac I can produce the commentary sound track, but I would prefer a stand alone version for better quality.
Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Annemarie!

I'm using a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 (which has a microphone on the side). I have several other devices plugged into separate USB slots: a keyboard, a mouse, my iPhone, and a Roland keyboard midi controller.
I've considered that maybe the webcam/mic combo is the culprit. If USB doesn't work at a constant speed, that could very well be causing the issue! The sound begins to lag badly sometimes when it's working properly, so that there's a multisecond delay between speaking and hearing my voice repeated back over the mic which is another sign that something is wrong. I've also caught it making a strange electronic sound during its "hang" time once it stops taking sound input correctly.
Maybe I should try to use line-in and forgo USB altogether then. I think I'd need a preamp and some sort of converter for that since the Mac Mini lacks a powered mic jack. I'm only a newbie musician so I've never set up such a system but it might be a better solution in the long run.
I'll check to see if it hangs before or after my computer enters suspend mode, that's a good suggestion too. Thank you for your help!

I reinstalled the manager but I am still unable to launch any of my programs from adobe. I tried to do a trail with a program and I am still getting the same message.

Davinci thank you for the update.
Please utilize any available uninstallers that are located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once all of the available uninstallers have been run you will then want to rerun the CC Cleaner Tool.  You can find directions on the use of the CC Cleaner Tool and a download link at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.  After the CC Cleaner Tool is run then please reinstall the Creative Cloud Desktop application from Creative Cloud Help | Creative Cloud for desktop.
The CC Cleaner Tool is designed to be used after running the uninstallers.  Without running the uninstallers first then a complete removal may not be possible.

  • The project was saved in a newer version of Premiere Pro and cannot be opened in this version

I edited a project on CC on one computer and saved it on my external. My friend took the same project to edit it on her computer under her own name and licence. Both of us recently upgraded to CC. But the same project that worked a few hours back on Premiere Pro CC, does not work now also on Premiere Pro CC and I received a message saying: The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version." Can you please help us.?

    Hi alexxxkid,
You should be able to import the xml into an earlier version.
Backward compatibility has never been there with Premiere and it is always recommended not to update in the middle of a project.
As far as the crash is concerned, please tell me more about it so that i can help you to the best of my knowledge.
