Premiere Pro CC 2014 on Mac - MP4's Green won't import

Hello!
I'm trying to import MP4's that I've recorded but when I attempt to import them they are just showing as solid green screens.  I've tried quitting out of all Adobe Products, signing out and signing back into the products, and still not having any success.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Bryan

When i attempt to import XDCAM EX clips or MP4 files into Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, received the error message "Unsupported format or damaged file."
For MP4 files that give this error message, rename the file extension from MP4 to MPG or M4V. This will invoke an alternate import module that will correctly handle the file

Since installing Premiere Pro CC 2014 upgrade, Mac Pro jumpy video and freezes constantly. Worked perfectly before. Anyone else finding these issues? I'm running a quad core Mac Pro, so it's definitely not the hardware.

I've maxed out the memory assignment, but this isn't a memory problem per se.
It looks like certain Premiere Pro conditions are associated with a huge increase in kernel_task memory, zeroing out any available free memory.  In my case it seems to be associated with effects applied to titles or jpgs  or imported psd (Photoshop) files.
Program restart pulls kernel memory back to the 1.3gb normal size.
Here's where I am at startup:

Any suggestions? The app crashes as soon as video is imported or a project is opened that already has video files in it.

    Thanks Mark!

  • Lesson files in the CD from Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 release (Classroom in a book) won't load.

After copying all files from the CD on to my hard drive, the files won't work when I tried to open it in Premiere Pro. It says file missing or cannot be found.
Could anyone please help me with this?

I contacted Adobe customer service and they directed me here.
They told me that they would transfer the chat to the appropriate group but ended up giving me this community forums link.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 on Mac and AMD Firepro 7000

    Hi,
Just got a new Mac Pro...
Processor  3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5, Memory  32 GB 1867 MHz DDR3 ECC, Graphics  AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB X 2, OS X 10.9.4. Machine looks like a kettle whiteout a spout, but other than that, fantastic!
Set it up via TimeMachine backup from old machine (iMac 27'').  Have to say that I'm not seeing a great difference in performance in Premiere?  The old iMac have just 1gig of GPU, the new machine has 12gig. The only notable difference is that in the render bar above the timeline, what used to go red in need of rendering, is now yellow. But, anything complex (lots of effects or stacked video) looks like it needs rendering - judder, pixelated.  I realise I could render whole timeline, but I work on events videos, sometimes timelines up to 2.5 hours.
Most footage I work in tends to be AVCHD from Sony's and I do realise that can be an issue but I was looking for a revelation in my editing experience - not there.
So what am I missing here?  Having ported over from the old machine, is Premiere not optimised for this machine?  Looked to see if I could re-install via Creative Cloud, don't seem to able to.
Any wisdom would be greatly received.
    Nick

So the source, scratch, and exports are all being written/read via the USB caddy?  It's a single drive?  Or do you have mulitple caddies and drives?  Spinning drive or SSD in the caddy?
Yes all being written to caddy. Double Inatek Caddy, only 1 drive being used - spinning drives not SSD's I'm afraid.
I wouldn't concern yourself too much with the displays you're using as far as speed is concerned.  Storage, yes.  Getting Tbolt2 RAID arrays will help, specially if you pack them full of SSDs.  But nevermind that for now.
One day that will be the plan, have to get by for now.
Did you also restore from TM your user directory?  Or did you create an entirely new user on your Mac Pro and start from scratch?  My suspicion is that something may have gotten transferred over during the TM restore, and it's not playing nice.
Yes, restored User Directory too - am indeed thinking that was a bad idea - take note anyone reading this, there is an option not to.
Hm.  That's not what the yellow bar means.  Since you're using MPE in hardware mode, it means one or several of the following:
The source media’s codec is computationally difficult (such as AVCHD). As mentioned above, only very few simple codecs don’t get a yellow bar; these include DV and DVCPRO.
The settings of the clip (e.g., pixel aspect ratio, frame rate, field settings) don’t match the settings for the sequence.
A CUDA-accelerated video effect or transition has been applied to the clip. (A CUDA-accelerated video transition only causes a yellow bar over the duration of the transition.)
(per Todd's write-up from a few years ago)
I guess it will be the AVCHD.  Thanks for link, better understanding now. Didn't see them very often on the old machine.
Given that you're editing AVCHD, it's likely the first bullet.  When I edit AVCHD I see the same thing: a yellow bar.  But playback is silky smooth (I have the 8-core version of the same machine).
So after reading your last post have had a play and setting up a new project on the internal 1TB SSD everything is indeed fine and I do now see a major difference.
Set up another new project on external drive and it was "OK", certainly better than existing project but better result working from the internal. That was my mistake, to open an existing project from an external drive and expect to see a major difference!
I had hoped that the external spinners would perform well enough via USB3, but obviously not.  Future plan is to work off internal SSD and archive to externals when finished. I know it's still not ideal but i am gradually making my life easier. Happy to say I have the Mac for the job now just need to sort out storage.
Thanks Jason, you have helped by making think straight. It's taken a while to be able to afford the new Mac but that is obviously just part of the story.  Still a Premiere man through and through!
ps. will try and edit the Subject line - get rid of that extra zero!

  • Audio glitch when seeking in Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 (Mac)

Don't have enough data yet for a full report but wanted to flag this to see if others are experiencing something similar.
    Here's my process:
    1. I have a couple tracks of audio. At some points in the timeline, there is no audio at all (e.g. after the end of my timeline).
    2. Using "End" or "Down", I navigate to a cut that has silence after it (no audio clips)
    3. I then use "Left" to navigate 1 frame back in time, to where there *is* an audio clip.
    4. My headphones give me a staticky snap, and I think the glitch registers on the audio meters as a peak
    Notes:
    - The audio clip is not loud, and doesn't peak when playing normally
    - Once it happens once on a particular cut, some kind of caching seems to happen so that the glitch doesn't repeat itself if I try immediately after.
I'll update this as I encounter more data.

This sounds to me like it could be a graphics related problem are you on the latest driver. Something else you could try, start a new project and import the one from the PC into that rather than directly opening it in the MAC

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 8.0.1 won't import MTS, MOV, MP4

My Premiere Pro CC 7.2.2 has no trouble importing AVCHD files (.mts) or .mov or .mp4 files. My Premiere Pro CC (2014) 8.0.1  cannot import these; it sees them as "greyed out". Since, by default, Premiere Pro files open in PP CC 2014, this is a problem. I have to do an "open with" the older version.

  • Performance Issue Premiere Pro CC 2014 with Late 2013 Mac Pro

    Hi all!
Im working Premiere Pro CC 2014 on a Late 2013 Mac Pro 6 core D700s and 32GB RAM on OSX 10.9.4
After the 2014 update i have experience some drop frames and hangs with a new 1080p timeline project.
And it later results in software hang and crashing . even after a quit (force quit) and re-poen, it seems to happen again and again.
Even after a system reboot seems to be fine at first, but it still crashes on the project.
Tired to render the timeline and still the same. Also tried to delete rendered file and play right with timeline with yellow bar, same.
Even drop the preview playback to 1/2 and still..
files are mixed 1080p footage from Canon 5d3, 60D, T2i.
I have 3 layers (interview video with different angles) and a title layer (hard subtitle)
had some light color correction with fast color corrector and a sharpening on the 5d3 layer.
Ive work with the CC premiere pro before with mac pro and everything is fine and never hand an issue.
All my memory setting are set for performance and i have open GL on my D700s
Im not sure if this a software issue or someone my hardware is not working right?!
    Thanks in advance!

I am having the same issues.
Im working on a late 2012 iMac, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7. 32 Gb ram, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX, OS X 10.9.4.
I'm editing RED footage, about 3 TB worth for this project from a Promise Pegasus drive.
The software really slows down when using the TYPE tool and also when scrubbing through footage.
When I attempt to quite the software and restart, the interface goes away but the app is still running but says "not responding" when I attempt to force quit.
If you've figured it out since then Id love to know what works.
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 (8.2) freezes up constantly on Mac OS X Yosemite

After the latest update (no idea which one but the latest update) Premiere Pro cc just keeps freezing up constantly. There's no indication what brings it up but after different periods of time I just get the apple wheel and the entire program freezes up. I force quit and get the "sorry, a serious problem has occured", blabla. Sometimes it's in the middle of cutting a clip, sometimes it's while trimming. There isn't a single indication what causes it. At first I thought it was only because of using a multicam clip, but that's not the case anymore. I tried reducing memory to other apps, deleting preview files, deleting autosaves, turning off autosave altogether, deleting Adobe Premiere 8.0 preference file, changing permissions, basically everything in this post: Re: Adobe Premiere Pro CC keeps crashing... (Which now also seems totally neglected by Adobe).
    Believe me, there's hardly a thing I haven't tried.
It's getting REALLY frustrating now and it's time something is done about this. Yes I know, "don't just say it's frustrating, explain the problem", but that fase has passed now. I'm paying for this product and it needs to work like it should.
Also I know I'm not the only one who's having these problems.
    My specs are:
    OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
    MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
    2,3 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB

One great reason to get a Mac only version of the post. It is never a good idea to post on a Windows post with Mac problems. And when threads get so long and unruly, the team can't focus on the actual issue so it doesn't get the attention it needs.
Now that we have that sorted out...

Thanks for the verification. You are running Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 (8.2). It helps to have that absolutely clear.

Definitely do not update Premiere Pro or OS X when in the middle of a project. Wait until it's complete. If you did either or both of these things, you can cause your project to become corrupt. After your current project is wrapped, test with a brand new project.

    - The problem just happens while working in my sequence, not in any final output. I don't know what is meant by "previews", but I have the yellow bar indicator in my sequence, if that's info you need.
I have heard of others having issues with OS X 10.10 and NVIDIA GPUs. My advice is to consider downgrading your OS if you continue to have issues. I believe I have avoided a lot of trouble by sticking to OS X 10.8.5.
Previews AKA the Media Cache are your "render files." They can become corrupt, so it's a good idea to trash them when troubleshooting. You can locate them via your Preferences > Media. Click the Browse button.

Okay I went through that menu (which I'm not eager to do, I prefer direct contact) and came across the CUDA setting inside the project settings. I've now enabled the "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA)", which might help.
So were you set to "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only" or "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL)" prior to changing it to "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA)?

Testing with a brand new project is not an option. I have a deadline for my current project and it's impossible to start from scratch. What I did try is start a new project and importing the existing one, which didn't help so far.
I was just wondering if you experienced the same issues in a new project. Any project you update to a new version is suspect, in my opinion. In the future, try to avoid doing that. If your current project is corrupt, I could see why you are having certain issues.
For what it's worth, we had another user that exhibited similar issues until they started with a brand new Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 (8.2) file.
Since importing your 8.1 file to a new 8.2 project isn't working, make sure to triple check permissions on all the Adobe folders I laid out in my blog post: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
It's the #1 reason Mac users experience freezing and crashing. The other one I'd look at is that NVIDIA drivers are not working well with Yosemite. Finally, if you update a project across versions, it can become corrupt. Not much you can do about that except start a new project ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 Trial Version  - Error when importing mts and mp4 video files

First time using Adobe Premiere Pro (and I'm using the trial version).  When I try to import an mts video file (and tried to import an mp4 file as well), I get the error: Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 has stopped working.  And then the program crashes. Please help.

    Hi Catherine,
    Welcome to the Adobe forums.
Please try the steps mentioned below and check if it works for you.
    1. Launch Premiere Pro and create a Project, go to File menu>Project Settings>Renderer and change the Renderer to Software only mode, delete previews if you get a prompt and then try to import the clip.
    2. If step 1 fails or the Renderer is already on Software only mode, go to Start Menu and search for Device Manager, go into Display Adapters and Right click on the Graphics card to select Update driver software option, on the next screen choose "Browse my computer for driver software", then choose "Let me Pick from a list..." option and from the list select "Standard VGA Graphics adapters. You might need to change the screen resolution of your screen and once done restart the machine again.
Launch Premiere Pro and import the clip to check.

I am new to video editing with a background in graphic design and typically do short corporate videos.
I am currently using a Mac Mini (late 2012 model), running Mavericks 10.9.5. And I keep having a problem with Premiere Pro CC 2014 freezing in the program monitor, while scrubbing through the timeline.

I am also using a 2TB Fantom G-Force Megadisk external HD to store all my media. It is connected via a Firewire 800 cable
I'm wondering if the freezing is caused by Mac Mini having a integrated graphics card vs. a discreet one. Has anyone else had any problems like this using a Mac Mini?

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 Playback Issue / Crash Mac Pro 2011

    Hi,
I've been having a big crash issue on Premiere Pro CC 2014, since the 2014.1 update.
2014.0 has been working fine this year but the update has crashed some of my biggest current projects.
Programs just starts fine, workspace responds, but anything related to playback just crashes or freezes Premiere.
    My config:
    Mac Pro Mid 2010
    Processor : 2x2,93 6-core Xeon
    Ram : 24Go 1333
    2x ATI Radeon HD 5770.
I've been reading all major topics on this, this i did :
    - disable Mercury Transmission
    - Flushes Premiere cache
    - Reinstall premiere
    - Updated to Mavericks (issue happened both in 10.9 and 10.10 - thought updating drivers+opencl would help, then again no)
    - Repaired permissions
    - Tried with another user session
    … and so on.
Nothing yet has solved my issue, anyone to help me on this major trouble ?
Thanks in advance, best regards !
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
    Try the following:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe folder preferences are set to read/write in all 3 locations.
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot
I placed the chief culprits in bold.
Report back if anything here worked for you.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I have a BIG problem with the latest version of "Premiere Pro CC 2014 - release 2014.0.1"; i can't work with AVC / AAC video file with extension .mp4 at 60 fps.
When i import the file into my "AVCHD 1080p 60fps" sequence, the video has only 1 "green" frame, and the video file doesn't show properly.
With the previous version of CC, the 7.7.2. version, the same video works perfectly.
    How can i fix it?
    Thanks

    News about that???

  • Change .mp4 Icon on published files from Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014

When I export my Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 file, to a .mp4, the thumbnail icon of the final file doesn't pick up the first frame. (which is a still shot, title shot). Instead, it picks up the first frame of the first video clip at about 5 seconds in.
How can I set the this to pick up the first frame?
I can upload the file to YouTube, and change the custom thumbnail fine, but when the video is embedded on a page, it pulls the this same icon instead of the desired first frame.
    Thanks for helping!
    James

I contacted Adobe customer service and they directed me here.
They told me that they would transfer the chat to the appropriate group but ended up giving me this community forums link.
