  • Premiere Pro CS6 H264 Blu-ray encoder does not do MBAFF interlace

I have been testing the Premiere Pro CS6 H264 Blu-ray encoder with some HDV video 1440x1080i25 top field first and I have found that it always encodes as PAFF even when the MBAFF box is ticked. I analysed the stream with h264_parse and found that the mb_adaptive_frame_field_flag is set to 0 and that the pic_struct flag alternates between 1 and 2. These indicate that the encoder is using PAFF when the MBAFF flag is ticked.
The CS5 encoder does work as it sets the mb_adaptive_frame_field to 1 and the pic_struct to 3 which is correct for top field first.
There is another problem in that Premier pro does not recognise field order of correctly encoded MBAFF video. It reports tff video as progresive and bff as top top field first.
MBAFF generaly gives higher quality pictures.

For obvious reasons I do not like to be constanly connected to the internet with my Video Edting PC.
There are no 'obvious' reasons not to stay connected (if you know what you're doing), and in fact very good reasons to do so (more so if you're a Creative Cloud subscriber).
Having said that, there is a way to get the PDF to come up when you hit F1, instead of the online help.  I just don't recall where that setting is.

Hi....is it possible to print from iPad to a HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909 printer?  Thanks for any help!

The HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909 is not an AirPrint printer, if that is what you're asking. HP has proprietary apps that may be suitable for your needs.
To print directly from an iPad / iPhone you will need an AirPrint compatible printer or another device to act as a print server. That can be a Mac computer running Printopia ($19.95 with free trial) or handyPrint (donation - supported). The Mac must be "on" but may be asleep for them to work. Equivalent PC options may exist but you're on your own finding them.
You can also buy this standalone print server:
    http://www.lantronix.com/it-management/xprintserver/xprintserver.html
These options enable you to use any printer available to your Mac, even older ones that may predate AirPrint by decades.
Otherwise you will need to buy an AirPrint printer or multifunction device.

and when I next connect the external hard drive how will I easily get the newly downloaded media onto the external HD
you'd have to point +iTunes media folder location+ back to the external via preferences > advanced > iTunes media folder location, then file > library, organize library > consolidate files
and essentially, to have it easily readable on both machines?
in that case it might be best to copy the entire iTunes folder to the external. then, on each machine, launch iTunes while pressing option on your keyboard. when prompted, click on +choose library+ and navigate to the iTunes folder on the external.
note only one iTunes can access the iTunes library @ a time !
also, make sure the external is mounted on either machine before launching iTunes.

  • Importing Premiere Pro CC 2014 media into Avid MC8

    Hi guys,
I've been having a problem using AAFs to move sequences from Premiere Pro CC 2014 to Avid Media Composer 8, long story short I'm working with a post company using Adobe for everything, but the editor is at a different facility and uses Avid. I've been testing a workflow to go between the two, I know how to use both programmes and relink media, but when I import the AAF i made in Premiere into Avid although the footage names are there and the sequence shows up in the correct order when i try to reconnect the offline media no matter what I try it just won't do it.
Having googled it I found that this used to be an issue between Premiere CS6 and Avid 7, so is this still an issue that I have to find a way around? Or is there a simple fix that I haven't found?
    Thanks,
    Andy
Also I forgot to note that the files we use are .MXF, which are unsupported by FCP7, meaning we can't go through Automatic Duck in there. Go figure.

  • Why does Adobe Premiere Pro modify original footage/asset files (e.g. mov)? (CS6)

    Background:
A colleague had given me a large 33Gb .mov for use in a project, I put this file on a backup drive.
I made an identical copy of this 33Gb .mov file and placed it in a folder that I'd use to work on a Premiere Pro Project.
I ran Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and dragged in the 33Gb .mov file into the Sequence (imported it)
Premiere Pro CS6 started conforming the file.
After it had finished, I noticed that it's Modified Date was just now i.e different to the Modified Date on the original copy of the file on the backup drive (see step 1)
I ran a BeyondCompare check between the .mov file on the backup drive (see step 1) and the one that the Premiere Pro project was using (step 2, 3) and Beyond Compare reported they were different.
I had initially thought it was unrelated file corruption of some kind, but I have checked this several times and got the same outcome, so it's definitely Premiere Pro deliberately modifying the file.
So I am puzzled: these are supposed to be the same file.
Why would there be a need for Adobe Premiere Pro to modify the footage?
What does it do to the file?
Would it not be better to create a separate file if necessary?
I can accept this if that's how it works and it's good to know that it was Premiere Pro deliberately modifying the files and not corruption (so my hardware ought to be healthy). But it makes more sense to me if Premiere Pro made separate modified copies for its own use. Modifying the file as it does hinders my process for checking the integrity of backups; if the original asset footage files were the same as earlier copies then it would be easy to know that the backups are OK.
    Thoughts?

Definitive Answer (I believe): It's all about this setting, "Write XMP ID To Files On Import" - which confirms that Adobe Premiere Pro is deliberately modifying the .mov file: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/preferences.html#WSE3BD4A43-7022-4fe6-97F5-95313 935347B
These posts give some background as to why having this setting enabled would be beneficial: one benefit being to be able to skip conforming files by matching the conformed file with the original using the embedded XMP tag :-

  • Will Premiere Pro CS5.5 resolve the problem of editing Panasonic 1080/60p footage?

According to Adobe....the following is a CS5.5 feature:
    Native AVCHD support
Import and natively edit AVCHD content from Sony, Panasonic, and Canon cameras without transcoding or rewrapping the content. Use the Media Browser to browse clips and view metadata — including metadata from Panasonic AVCCAM cameras.
However, does this mean we can natively edit footage shot at 1080/60p on the Panasonic (TM-700, TM-900) or are we still stuck with needing to "unwrap" this footage because of Panasonic's proprietary compression system on the 60p footage?
I'd love to buy one of those camcorders but if its going to be a pain to edit in Premiere Pro...then maybe I'll wait or get some other brand that doesnt require all this hassle.
Can anyone provide some feedback?  Adobe?

Thanks. I will do that to create the sequence in Premiere.
As for burning 720p60 on Blu-Ray, it seems a shame to start with 1920x1080 clips and end up with only 1280x720 on the screen.
But you are probably right to avoid interlaced material.
But will a disk burned at 1080/60i really be interlaced since both fields will have been recorded at the same instant of time when using 1080p60 clips to start with? Especially with recent 240 Hz TV using some form of frame interpolation.
I guess one can but try and judge with his eyes.

  • Can Premiere Pro smart render footage from a Canon 5D mark III ?

I already read that Premiere Pro can smart render certain codecs. But I want to know exactly: Can it smart render the video from a Canon 5D mark III?
In case smart render is not very specific: I'm asking if it can export the footage after cutting without rencoding it by just saving the individual frames into a new video container with the same codec. This should increase export time alot.
I'm asking because I have Premiere Elements and this feature would be the only reason for me to switch to Pro. I currently need 40 Minutes to render 10 Minutes. As a journalist I need to be faster.

Do you have any other tips how to boost export speed? I don't need the video to be small. I only do a raw edit where I cut out the junk. Quality loss should be minimal and speed ist most important.
Its hard to know if your export speed is normal or otherwise without some detail from you for comparison.
Hardware, system, OS and current export settings and times etc..
Generally the system and set up will determine the speed and editing experience.
5D footage should be no problem at all to a decent system ( and setup)
If you do a test export for us...tell us how long the export takes for how much footage .  eg 1 minute footage = X export time.
    No Effects.

  • Premiere Pro CC, Dolby Digital License missing for MTS / AVCHD audio import?

    Hi,
I'm running Premiere Pro CC on Mac 10.8.4 importing MTS files captured on a new Panasonic V720 Camcorder that records MTS / AVCHD files.
When I add the files to my project or drop them onto the timeline, the video appears fine but there's no audio and I get the warning message:
"This installation does not have a license to decode Dolby Digital audio".
I've tried switching from 5.1 to 2-channel audio on the camera in case that was the issue, no change.
The file plays fine on the mac with VLC player or MPlayer - mplayer is decoding audio with the FFmpeg AC-3 codec. I've imported MTS files created with other cameras (but presumably with different audio codecs) into Premiere fine with my current setup.
Any suggestions for getting this video and audio to work correctly?
    Thanks!

Hey guys, thanks for the responses.  I have checked my audio preference settings and don't really see anything in there that looks helpful...the following are my settings:
The LG TV is actually hooked up through a 7.1 receiver...I'm not sure why it registers the home theater unit as the tv....but 5.1 does play through my PC just fine with every other program.
I've been playng around with the various export settings and have found that I can successfully export 5.1 audio using the H.264 preset and switching the channels in the audio tab to 5.1.  You cannot, however, do the same with the H.264 Blu-ray preset as it requires the above mentioned SurCode for compression.  I'm guessing that means the non-Blu-ray preset is then uncompressed?
The projects that I'm setting up are very basic.  I'm just using a single mp3 import and snapping it to one of the rear speakers.  While editing, the sound does fade from the front channels but nothing comes out of the rear channels.
I guess I'm just having a hard time understanding why PPCC can export 5.1 but not play it back while editing....
    Thanks again for the responses

  • Premiere Pro CC and missing audio tracks for .mts files

    Hello guys,
I used to edit my .mts files with Premiere Pro CC without any issues until yesterday.
Now I import my .mts file (made with a Sony VG900) but Premiere doesn't recognize the audio tracks (that I can hear just fine with VLC).
I tried changing the extension in .m2ts but it didn't work, I also tried reinstalling Premiere but, again, it didn't work and I tried (I was desperate) to install Premiere CS6 just to check if maybe the problem was just about the CC version. Guess what? It didn't work...
I tried also converting the file with Encoder in .mp4 but after the conversion I can't hear the audio with VLC and, of course, it doesn't work on Premiere.
Do you think it's a Premiere issue or a file problem?
I used those same files for other videos (like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1X5vsZ-5yI) and I had no problems. Then I updated Premiere, I moved the files in other folder and the problem came to life.
    Any idea?
(I'm waiting for my colleague to send me a new mts file just to check if I accidentally damanged the old ones).

    A similar problem here..... although......
Take a look at this screenshot
As you will see, the blue marked audio is repeated audio of less than on sec. Certainly not the way it has been recorded.
I think I've got the answer........ (working with Premiere Pro CC, always up to date, Mac OX 10.9.2; Camera: Sony HXR NX3)
    1. Don't copy but clone your flash card to the location where to edit on your hard drive. At the same time: alt+click on external flash card, draw it onto your hard drive location.
(or use carbon copy cloner, which I use for backup and transferring avchd files).
    2. Don't import regularly via the import dialogue box (cmd-i). Instead: use the mediabrowser browser, locate the map "private" (as often standard named),
    3. Via cmd-a (select all): select all videofiles.
    4. click right mouse button and select import.
This way, all the video and audio files will be imported.
If however you have alreade re-used your camera flash card for recordings and don't have access to the 'corrupted' files to be imported into your project, you won't be able to solve the problem. You just lost some of the essential data which were not copied onto your Mac.
This solution I found for my problem may well be the one you are looking for........
Another solution might be to convert the compressed avchd - before importing into your project - into uncompressed .mov filed. However...... you will lose data so this is not exactly what I would prefer if the former described workflow does fix the problem for you.
Please let me know if this works for you or not.
    Good luck!
    Regards,
    Peter

  • Converted .avi to .mp4 for Premiere Pro CS6 but receive a header error.. help?

When I imported .avi video file into Premiere Pro CS6, only the audio played. I used VLC to convert the .avi file to .mp4 through a batch file. Now when I try to open the .mp4 file into Premiere Pro CS6, I receive an error "File cannot be opened because of a header error".
I've tried converting the .avi file to .mov and .wav but they receive the same header error.
I've also tried opening in Audition and resaving it as .wav pc but it still won't import to Premiere.

First, depending on what is inside the AVI file, it should/might be "naturally" supported by Premiere

  • Premiere Pro CS3 DSLR footage problems

Hi guys, hoping to get some help regarding adobe premiere pro CS3.  I am trying to import and compress some DSLR footage which I have captured on a Canon 5D mark 2 camera.  However if i drag more than 3 or sometimes 5 minutes of footage on to the timeline the program crashes. Also sometimes my compressed footage has red screens in the playback some lasting a 3 to 4 seconds at start of clip and some a split second.  Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated.

CS3 is not capable of handling dslr footage.

  • My video won't "Render and Replace" in Premiere Pro from linked footage in After Effects

I am using Premiere Pro CC 2014 and After Effects CC 2014.  I can't get the video to "Render and Replace" in Premiere Pro after editing the original in After Effects.  It just freezes on "Analyzing."
In order to see the footage in real time  I have to export it to an mp4 then replace the linked footage.  The footage is 18 minutes long and it takes more than 5 hours to export it.  After I edit the exported version, I have to export it again, which is another 5 hours.  This is taking a really long time.  I would rather edit the "Rendered" version What am I doing wrong?
    Russell

is this just a single clip, or you have the entire 18min loaded in AE as comp? does this happen with new projects and all footage or just some? can you render and replace regular clips that aren't AE comps?  if its just a few clips of the 18min project, can you render previews in premiere?    if its just a few clips, could also render them out in AE and swap them out in premiere instead of using render and replace...   or maybe temporarily disable the ae effects/layers while editing in premiere and then turn them back on when ready to export final render.
