Premiere Pro CC never closes?

I have noticed since the large update that even after I close Premiere and Media Encoder (that is the only two I use) it still has the main process running and is constantly using 13% CPU utilization, measured with task manager, so for the both of them it is constantly running 26% on my CPU. This is after closing and saving.
If I manually kill the process it stops and everything still launches fine. What is going on here, and what could it possibly be doing with 25% of my CPU?
Please help!

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 closes, but process in taskmanager doesn't

    Windows 7, CS5.5.2
I had this happening to me a few times times, I click the x in the top right corner to close Premiere, it asks me to save my project, I click no and the program seems to close, nothing on the taskbar left either, but it's still there in the taskmanager as a 290MB process.
I discovered this when Premiere refused to start. Now I'm forced to close the process before I can start Premiere.
    What's causing this?
It seems that more people had this problem:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2920945
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3248472
Some had it solved by updating the video driver, but since I already have the latest one (NVidia) I don't see how that's going to solve it. I also have the latest chipset and audio dirvers as of yesterday.

In one case I waited almost 15 min.
While I was away I have done some rigorous testing with Microsoft's driver verifier tool, the same tool they use to certify drivers. I have found two issues that I solved by removing two conflicting programs. The last diagnostics run of driver verifier was 100% successful. I also did a rigorous memory test and that didn't show any problems either. As a matter of fact I'm been amazed how stable my system is running for almost 2 years now and trust me, I stress it a lot by running applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, Cinema 4D, games and even Vmware. It's also not a system that is cluttered with all kind of junk, since I restore an image of the system partition every 3 months or so. The backup only contains the complete installation of my OS and software BEFORE use. A restore of this image before I posted my problem in this forum also didn't solve the issue
Anyway, after using driver verifier, I tried Premiere Pro again, closed it 3 times after fiddling with some videos and now after the 4th time I close the program I have the same issue as before: the program seems to close, the taskbar is empty, but again the task manager is showing the adobe premiere pro.exe process. That process is now still visible in task manager after  about 10 minutes.
The only thing I could try now is cancelling all non-Microsoft processes and services and see if the problem still returns. I'm open for any other suggestions.
Mind you, I could solve this issue by writing a script that kills the process after I leave the program, but:
a - I don't know if it will do any harm (maybe the process is still saving or updating files)
b - It just camouflages the issue and I never feel good about that
EDIT:  I closed all non-Windows processes (as an IT professional I know what I'm looking at), stopped all non-Windows processes and killed the adobe premiere pro.exe process that was still running, I started Premiere Pro fiddled with some videos, closed the program and again....the adobe premiere pro.exe process continues to run....for several minutes now.
To sum it up: I have the latest bios and drivers for graphics card, audio and chipset. I ran Microsoft driver verifier and managed to run a full final diagnostics without any conflicts, I ran a memory test that didn't show any error, I restored a clean backup of my system partition, I have all the latest updates for both Windows and Adobe software, I even tried running Premiere Pro without running all non- Windows processes and services and the Premiere Pro process still doesn't want to close. I don't run any brand new model video card either, I'm using a 9800GT that has very mature drivers and the card itself was bought brand new only 6 months ago and has not crashed any game so far ( the best test for any video card) or any application that makes use of GPU acceleration, like Photoshop for example, which always runs at OpenGL/normal.

  • Premiere Pro & After Effects close after a few seconds after the startup?

    Hi,
I bought Creative Cloud yesterday and everything installed just fine. I haven't tried all Apps yet, but so far Premiere Pro and After Effects close after a few seconds after the startup. There is no dialogue or error window of any kind, the programs just shut down automatically.
The weird thing is that I had the trial before, but also uninstalled it, but then the apps worked just fine.
I searched the forum but couldn't find anyone with the exact same issue. I hope someone can help me out.

Hi, im a PC user and when i open a project or create a new project, Premiere Pro closes when the project opens. I get no crash warning or anything like that, it just closes down.
Also, this may be related. My Creative Cloud app tells me that it needs updating, but when i do, it too closes down. When i reopen the CC app, it tells me that it needs that same update again.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro 6 CS Close Captions using Pro 6 CC?

I have Adobe Premiere Pro 6 CS and need to create Close Captions for a production I'm doing.
I know I can't create the Captions on Pro 6 CS but can I create them in Pro 6 CC and import them into the production on the CS side?

Here is a thread that discusses closed captioning functionality and the split between legacy PPRO CS 6.0 and the online CC version at that time -- Premiere Pro CC version 7.01.
Premiere Pro CS6 - Closed Captioning
Projects created from on version of PPRO should migrate with no problems to the next version. Closed captions can be added to any project you open, provided the application version you are using supports creating closed captions.
I suggest you work with one version of PPRO to keep things simple.

  • I'm on a Mac and have downloaded Premiere Pro but never used it. Now I can't find it under applications.

I have CC and have been a long time user of PS and LR software. Now I'm going to transition to Adobe Premiere (already downloaded) from FCPX but I can't
find Premiere Pro anywhere on my computer.

    Hey Chuck,
Is the application in your Applications folder? If not, you have not yet downloaded it.
    Thanks,

  • Premiere Pro CS5 never uses more than 15% of CPU, so, performs much slower than premiere 6.5!

    Hello.
I'm doing wedding videos for quite a while. My hardware included DV500DVD card and premiere 6.5, CPU is Core 2 Duo E8400, 2GB of RAM, Windows XP SP1 (DV500 can't work with SP2 or SP3).
The above mentioned system is quite old, and absolutely not usable for HD videos. So, I've decided to build another machine. The configuration is as follows:
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
    M/B: Asus LGA 1155, H67 chipset.
    CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K
    RAM: 4GB DDR3
HDD: 2x 64GB SSD, 4 x 2TB SATA (RAID) (All HDDs connected to separate PCI-E controller, so intel chipset flaw is not an issue here)
I've recently downloaded and installed the trial version of Premiere Pro CS5, to see, how it suits to my needs. And I'm very dissapointed. I've started premiere, selected DV-widescreen preset, inserted two static pictures on timeline, and did an alpha blend between them. Then put movie to export. Not only it took way too long time to render, but it only used single core, and cpu usage is only 15% ! Just for curiosity, I've installed premiere 6.5 on same system, and it did that task about 10 times faster!
What is this, limitation of trial version, or just Premiere Pro CS5 can't be used with this modern CPU ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex

First off 4GB of ram is really to low for CS5. CS5 is 64 bit for a reason and requires far more ram. 2nd, what video card are you using?
As for the opteron system the other poster listed, you could get the lower end Intel platform and easily out perform that opteron system. A Geforce 450GTS video card would out perform that Quadro by 2 or 3 times and that card is barely over $100.
No offence but you can't run CS5 on minimal or very old specifications and expect the same results as everyone else or older software. If you can't upgrade the hardware then I suggest staying with the previous version until you can. The MPE engine requires allot of resources to function especially ram and your lower spec or older system will just bottleneck the pipeline rather than speed things up.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 keeps freezing when loading projects from Premiere Pro CC

    Hi everyone,
I'm reporting this issue in case someone else would have the same problem.
I just downloaded the 2014 version of Premiere Pro CC, and when I'm loading a project from Premiere Pro CC into CC2014 I have the software freezing and being unable to even play the loaded sequences. It seems that dynamic link is having trouble linking the CC and the CC2014 version of Premiere Pro.
Until now the only solution I found was to kill the process of the software and start it again, after 8 times I got my sequence loaded alright, then sometimes it is freezing again, killing process, starting software again, and so on. Does anyone has the same problem ?
I'm running a Windows 7 Ultimate PC with 12Go RAM dedicated only to Premiere Pro.
    Cheers,
    Vincent

    Hi Vincent,
I feel your pain, you are not alone. Here are my machine specs and my very frustrating situation, if anyone has any idea as to how I should move forward, I would really appreciate the input/advice...
    iMac - 27" Late 2013
Processor  3.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  12 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
I'm having similar issues that began when I installed Premiere Pro CC 2014, and actually got worse with the latest update/release. The majority of my projects worked fine at first, but the update last week ended that quickly. I did what I know I never should do and updated Adobe CC while completing a project on a deadline. I thought some of the fixes would help me complete the project sooner. Needless to say, the deadline has passed, my client is pissed enough to not pay me or hire me again and I'm stuck with an almost-there version that I can't export correctly because of this software. This is my problem, not Adobe's, but I didn't expect such a detrimental update to halt my operation.
After doing some research, I found that some plugins could be the cause of some specific editing issues, mainly due to incorrect or inaccessible folders - who knows if its Dynamic Link, CC apps or 2014 apps. I concluded that my issue at the time was a plugin permissions issue on the Adobe "Preference" Folder, so I reset the permissions on the folder so that CC and 2014 apps would be able to access its contents without any problems. This was the wrong decision. For some reason, resetting this folders permissions also effected the main HDD, it's Kernel Text files and their respective permission. I could not boot my machine, just got the Apple and spinning wheel until I had to power down. I ended up on the phone with 3 different AppleCare reps who helped me at least be able to turn the machine back on and access my desktop/files, apps, etc. Outside of this, no one could offer anything other than "Uninstall the problematic application, reboot, reinstall, etc..." or "Backup your files and reimage the HDD." When I mentioned the recent CUDA driver update for my graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB now running CUDA Driver Version: 6.0.51), it was like they had never heard of graphics cards being used in their machines.
Resetting permissions on Adobe Preference Folder...
This is what I read would get the CC and 2014 apps communicating correctly so that they could utilize my plugins. There is a problem, I believe, in that their are TOO MANY locations where Adobe folders/components live. There are 3 "Preferences" folders that I found, and I don't know which effects what process, but the folder I changed permissions on clearly effects the operation of all of the CC & 2014 apps I had installed, as well as my HDD. Kernel Extensions and the entire system.
Based on my perceived effects of the Preference folder, I needed to uninstall everything, run the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool, download/install just the 2014 releases and see if that resolved the issue. I'm not downloading CC apps, the 2014 releases should run fine on their own. I've yet to confirm this with Adobe, as what I've read has simply said to install the new release next to the CC apps, rather than on top of, as traditional update releases work. Anyway, one by one, I reinstalled the 14 apps that I use on a regular basis on a "clean" machine with no trace of previous Adobe apps.
After reinstalling (without any plugins), I was at least able to open Premiere Pro from the Application folder and work for a few minutes before both Program and Source monitors froze and had to force quit the app. If I try to open the Project File by double clicking it in the Finder, SpeedGrade opens up instead of Premiere Pro - never seen that before. I also had to force quit to end that process and reopen in Premiere instead of SpeedGrade.
So back to Premiere, if I do have success in opening a project in the right application, Premiere freezes - if not immediately, eventually it will just stop responding. The video clips, sequence segments and UI freeze, but the audio will keep playing until I force quit. When I force quit, Premiere Pro doesn't close entirely. The UI closes, but the process still runs. I've even force quit from Finder, force quit again from the Dock, Shut Down the machine, restarted and Premiere Pro will still be open, but "Not Responding", so I force quit again and open the project. Just now, I opened PP, made minor edits to a sequence, sent it to Media Encoder, exported, but the video I tested exported without audio. I force quite PP twice just before that and it is still running now, but again, it is "not responding".
Ultimately, none of this works, nor have my attempts at resolving these many issues. One thing I know is that there is something VERY WRONG with either the latest release/update to 2014 apps, the Preference folder or the permissions that were changed.
As I mentioned previously, and what I think is a major oversight by someone at Adobe, is that for some reason the permission changes to ONE Adobe folder also effected my entire system and Macintosh HD. Some Kernel Extension files went missing, which is never good and should not happen when resetting folder permissions, so I believe my issues are far greater than the faulty Adobe CC 2014 applications, and is the cause of many of my problems right now. If I can't get things sorted soon, I'm going to reimage my HDD and start from scratch. As much as I would like to avoid this, I really have no choice if I want to get back to work and not lose clients over inexplicable technology issues.
If I find a solution, I will repost, but I think Adobe has to make some serious fixes on this release before anything is resolved entirely. I pay them monthly and rely on their software and platform to work without issue, which is foolish - I know, but I've used CC since it was introduced and it has work well enough until now.
Is there anyone at Adobe that can offer some advice??

  • When I try and launch Premiere Pro CS6 I get dynamiclinkmanager quit unexpectedly

And Premiere Pro CC never launches. And the dynamiclinkmanager window keeps coming up, to the point that i can't do anything else as the window just keeps going to the foreground. CS6 all works perfectly fine.
I am on a MacPro 4,1 running 10.8.4 with 24GB of RAM and a PC NVIDIA GTX 670 graphics card.
And honestly nothing is working in the creative cloud. Adobe Media Encoder instantly quits. Adobe Photoshop seemed to open, but forcible sends me to this web page http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/membership/index.cfm?nf=1&nl=1&productID=598&release=1.0&plat form=2&locale=en_US&source=PCSNOTIF which reads 413 Header Length Too Large and it freezes and starts the dynamiclinkmanager quit cycle again. Illustrator says Can't print the illustration. Disk full error has occured while it's printing and then quit.
I have gotten bridge cc to launch, and that is it.

  • Premiere Pro freezes and causes my computer to crash by re-writing the permissions inside my computer

Premiere Pro re-writes my permissions inside my computer and causes premiere to crash, run slow, restarts my computer in the middle of rendering, and freezes my whole computer.  I have a brand new 2013 Mac Pro with 12core, 16 GB of ram, and 6GB of GPUs.  I will even try and and edit very small HD files from a DSLR whether they are H264 or Pro Res files.  I will do something simple like a distortion correction on those files that are a minute long and it takes it 40 plus minutes to render if it makes it through without crashing the program or the computer.  If I run it for a while without restoring the permissions in the disk utility it makes my whole computer freeze and crash from just about every program.  I have spent many hours on the phone with apple re-installing my operating system thinking that hardware was my issue.  After doing so and installing programs like avid and final cut with Adobe products off the computer it worked perfectly.  Then when I install Adobe products like Premiere Pro on the very first render they will start to have the issues I have explained above.  I have contacted Adobe support and have spent like 20 hours over the last few weeks with them remote logging onto my computer trying to fix the issue.  Towards the end of the last call the guy I was talking too wanted to collect all the information he could to ask the engineers about my problem. He asked me over a dozen times if I had re-installed my operating system and I responded with yes I have each time.  He then changed his tune to the only way he will continue to help me is if I will again re-install my operating system and only put Premiere Pro on the computer just to see if that will work.  I have crazy deadlines and do not have time to go through that process again and again.  He also told me that lots of people with my same computer have the same issues but still wants me to re-install my operating system again.  I explained to him that I am extremely behind with my work (because of this issue) and do not have the time to re-install again since the first re-install didn't work.  I had told him multiple times that I can get around using Adobe products but am huge fan of them(when they work) and would like to find a way to solve the problem.  He then told me that I should go ahead and cancel my subscription and and use that work around since he can not figure it out.  Is there anybody at Adobe that cares about losing my business?  Or anybody out there that may help with the solution of my problem?
    Thanks,
    Cody

WOW!!!! Adobe only cares about there reputation and not their customers!
Response:  I said multiple times in the last thread that I already did a clean install of my operating system.
Response:  I use DaVinci 10 times more than Premiere Pro and never have had one issue with it ever!  Must not be the issue?!?
Response: Changing the read and write permissions was the first thing the guy tried two weeks ago.  I have done a clean install of Mavericks and it did not solve my problem(as I said in my first post).
(Please do not create new posts in response to an earlier post. That post was deleted).
    Hi Cody,
Really sorry you're so upset. I'm only trying to help, though. I suggested that the number one fix is to make sure that your permissions are set to read/write. You did not mention that agents tried this at all in your original response so that's why I mentioned it. Also, I was not completely clear that a clean installation was done as most people install the original OS and then update it, which can cause the issue. Sorry for the confusion.
You did say that you use Resolve all the time with no issues. Resolve can mistakenly install CUDA on your machine which has AMD GPUs. This can cause serious issues. I would remove CUDA from your machine and see if you get better results: Avoid installing NVIDIA CUDA drivers on computers with AMD GPUs
If you want further help, please let me know and I'll do what I can do to assist.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Export to Premiere Pro

    Hi all experts,
If I do an export to Adobe Premiere Pro:
    1) Will it be rendered in Adobe Premiere Pro or Adobe After Effects ?
    2) How I do I import the file in from Adobe Premiere Pro ? Just like importing a picture or video ?
    3) I am thinking if I use Premiere Pro instead of Final Cut, will it cut down on input and output time ?
    Thanks

After Effects always uses the AE Render engine to render files. If you export to Premiere Pro and then close AE the Render engine will open in the background to render from inside PPro. Dynamic link is similar to round tripping to motion from FCP. Personally, for most projects that require AE work I think the AE/Premiere workflow is faster than the FCP/AE workflow. Sometimes though, depending on the project, I'll use Automatic Duck to bring FCP elements into AE for FX work.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem with Premiere Pro and Creative Cloud.

Hello, I have 2 big problems, when I lauching Premiere Pro, the software closes automatically after 5 seconds. It's the same thing with Photoshop.  The second is about the software of Creative cloud, there isn't any information in the software, just a white page.. Please help me !

Neoriser are you referring to the Creative Cloud Desktop application being blank?
If you are facing crashing issues with Premiere Pro CC I would recommend posting a separate discussion in the Premiere Pro forum at http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere.

  • Premiere Pro won't save my project

My project has been working fine up until a while ago when I tried to save it and the loading bar came up but the yellow loader wouldn't move. It won't save my project and when I click cancel the Premiere Pro simply freezes and then I have to force quit. How do I save my project??

It sounds like you're not doing this correctly.
    1. CLOSE Premiere Pro entirely.  All projects.  The entire Premiere Pro program.  Close it down.  Completely.  Maybe even restart the computer to make sure that Premiere is NOT running.
    2. Now, Hold down the Shift+Option keys.  Make sure you hold them both down at the same time.  You can hold down Shift, first, or you can hold down Option, first, but whatever you do keep holding them down.  Together.  Keep holding them down.
    3. WHILE  you're STILL holding down the Shift+Option keys, open Premiere Pro.  You can open Premiere Pro any way you wish, just make sure that when you do, you're STILL HOLDING down the Shift AND Option keys.  Keep them held down while Premiere opens.
When Premiere opens do you see any of your recent projects in the recent projects list?  If you don't, then you've successfully trashed your preferences.

  • Premiere Pro will crash when rendering part of timeline and cancelling - common issue?

There have been times where my timeline was red- so I chose part of the timeline, hit enter to render, and then realized it was going to take too long so I cancelled out. However, every single time (when I hit cancel, not "x"), it will tell me that Premiere Pro crashed and close the program. Can anyone replicate this? Is this a known issue? I didnt see it reported anywhere. It is not random. I can anticipate it happening every time I do that.

None at all. It's the strangest thing. There are times where I will start a render, not realizing how long it will take, change my mind, and try to cancel and it happens. I may just need to resort to reinstall the application if I can if no one else is experiencing the same issue.

  • Premiere Pro 5.5 - All Grown Up

I have been a Premiere user since version 5 going back to 1997 or 1998 I think. Through the years the one thing that frustrated me on more occasions than I can count is the countless crashes and instability. If I had a dollar every time Premiere crashed, choked, froze, threw an error, etc., I could have probably paid cash for my house. Through the years every new version was hyped as usual about the various new features and workflows but the instability and the fear of a crash always remained and I always said to myself "yeah ok, let’s see how many of the new features I can use before I am rebooting". The fear of crashes had me saving projects after ever other cut or tweak. If I has 5 or less crashes or freezes, etc in the course of a day it was a good "productive" day.
Like many of my fellow community members here I have been paying my mortgage and making 100% of my income with Adobe's tools with Premiere being the main staple of my workflow and income. I ran Premiere Pro 1.5 for a few years and didn’t bother upgrading until the CS4 release. And to what did my wondering eyes did appear? More instability! Shocked! No I wasn't really shocked, I expected it. It's Premiere "Pro" after all right? I would have been a fool to think that a new release of PP would be stable.
All playful sarcasm and kidding aside, through the years because of my true love and passion for Adobe and Premiere Pro I never abandoned Premiere. I never even tried FCP or Avid MC in hope that PP would one day get the love and affection from the PP development team and would one day be "all grown up" and be a "big boy" like it's big brothers AE and PS.
About a week ago I downloaded the 5.5 free trial and all I can say is WOW! As I stated above "I would have been a fool to think that a new release of PP would be stable". Well...I happily swallowed a big piece of humble pie...today I am a fool. I wouldn't have believed it unless I tried it. I have been editing about 6-10 hours a day for about a week and I am just speechless. PP has been rock solid and hasn't crashed, frozen, not a hiccup. I truly can't put into words how amazed I am about the stability. I haven't enjoyed editing this much in the last week as I have had in the last 10 years. When I upgrade to the Master Collection when my trial has expired I can only hope that Dynamic Link is as rock solid. I have faith that it will be.
About 3 years ago I met a friend of my brother n' laws and we got to talking and he said he worked out in CA doing audio editing for some TV show out there (can't remember the name but a cheesy show as I recall) and he said he did his audio on Pro Tools and the editors used Avid MC. He asked me what I did and I told him, he asked what I edited on. I said PP and SB and he kind of looked at me weird.
Today I hold my head up high and when someone asks what I cut on I can proudly say Premiere Pro and when they answer I can look weird at them (unless they're smart and are cutting on PP).
PP CS5 gave FCP a fat lip and now PP CS5.5 has FCP down for the count (with a little help from Apple stubbing it's arrogant toe as well !)
Adobe, THANK YOU! There's still one more "bully" left to go after...go knock 'em out!
    Shane

    @ Multimedia Lab,
I hear ya. I felt the urge to make the original posting because I was just that impressed, shocked, etc with my trial of PP 5.5. I was ready to burst with excitement and I needed to vent somewhere, lol. I tell my wife and just looks at me and says "that's great hon", she doesn't get it but she tries to humor me.
I am on day 14 or 15 of my trial and I literally have been editing several hours a day, every day, even on the weekends to squeeze every minute possible out of my trial and pound on PP as much as I can. As of this posting PP 5.5 has NOT frozen, threw an error or anything, literally NOT ONE HICCUP!!!!!!!!!! I still can't believe it. I understand that no software is perfect and I'm sure at some point there will be an error or a quirk or something, but if it's only going to have once every couple of weeks or once a month, etc., I can live with that. Like I said I know there is no such thing as perfect software but this PP 5.5 has me wondering...
I can't put it to words on this forum that would express my utter joy and excitement for PP 5.5 so I will stop trying haha. I don't want to start sounding like a weirdo or something.
I have had PP, AE and ME (all 5.5) open simultaneously, having ME encode in the background while I continued to edit in PP or mess around in AE...FLAWLESS!!! With CS4 when I would encode in the background and try switching back to PP or AE to edit or further composite 5 out of 10 times it ended badly. My system is adequate but by no means stellar. I'm sure a lot of my problems with CS4 was the fact it was 32 bit and I was asking CS4 to swallow too much in terms of ram for how much ram it could use.
I am running Win Vista 64 Home Premium, Intel Quad Core, 8 GB Ram. Like I said, adequate but certainly not stellar. I watched a recent video by Karl Soule in the Short and Suite series and I have been convinced that my next system upgrade will be an HP Worksation. I can only fantasize how fast PP, AE and ME would just be insane on a system like that.
IMO, I would definitely say give PP a shot. With the release of 5.5 Adobe has made a statement to the professional community. Like you said Apple seems to be moving away from its Pro line and focusing more on iPads, iPhones, iThis and iThat. In that respect Apple is fantastic and is the no.2 company in the world for that reason.
Anyone who is in our line of work uses Photoshop and I'm sure 99/100 use AE to some degree. So to me it only makes sense to use PP (now that is has been rebuilt and is ridiculously stable) because of the stellar integration between the apps. A few years ago I could see why a lot of editors said the heck with PP. With the rebirth of PP Adobe has one heck of an All Star team now. I know which team I'm staying on.
Whatever you decide I wish you the best. Keep us all posted on your decision.
