Premiere Pro CC not creating preview files?

Hi there,
I'm working on a project in CC 2014 and when I play a timeline, I either get 'media pending', a black screen or some strange lines as if only a few frames of the clip have properly rendered. When I try to render the timeline, I get "Error compiling movie: unknown error". There are also no preview files in the project preview file folder (despite that folder being the allocated folder for preview files).
I've tried importing the sequence into a new project and the same issues carry on.
Any ideas?
Happy to provide any more info to help!
Cheers

As the faq for all the Adobe forums notes, it's handy, useful, and basically polite to start by noting your computer's specs: OS, chip/cores, RAM, video card/s/vRAM, disk setup, and also the specific software build you're using (to the dot-x level) as quite often this data gives a big heads-up to the answer of a question to start with. Next, it's also useful to give your codec/s, frame-size, and a hint of experience level and whether or not this is the first time you've tried something or whether you've done it for only 10 years a million times but THIS time it fritzed for some reason.
I can help with basic things but before anyone else even more helpful than moi can help ... they'll need more info.

  • Premiere Pro CC not sending Audio files to edit on Audition CC

Hey guys so i just Upgraded from CS6 to CC. Before i did PremiereCS6 was sending audio files to AuditionCS6 with no problems. Since yesterday that i upgraded the option is greyed out and i cant do it. Not sure if this is something happening to a lot of people or just me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well if anyone stumbles here for the same reasons i posted i finally found a fix that doesnt involve re-install from another thread. here is the answer it works like a charm.
I had this problem and fixed it pretty quick without the need to uninstall and reinstall.
Look for the default .sesx files in your Document/Adobe/Audition/6.0/Session Templates folder (on Windows 7)
There should be a list of preset .sesx files. Right-click one and set its default application as Adobe Audition by using the "open with" option.
Once I did this I double-clicked to open the .sesx files with Audition, closed it, opened Premiere Pro CC and VUAAA-LAAA the button is available and fully functional.
    Hope this helps someone!

  • Premiere pro will not import .mov files

Premiere pro CS3 running on Vista 64 bit will not import .mov files. After Effects CS4 has the same problem, it says I don't have the correct version of Quick Time installed. I'm using the 64 bit version 7.6.4 for Vista. Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.
Now, what is inside that .MOV "wrapper?" This ARTICLE will give you some background on "wrappers." It is mainly written with .AVI in mind, but translates to most AV file formats, including .MOV.
Now, I use a lot of .MOV files and these are all done in the Animation CODEC. Never an issue for me.
One thing that might aid you is the US$30 upgrade/unlock key to QT Player Pro. It can Export as a bunch of useful formats/CODEC's. Depending on whether your footage is SD, or HD, you can Export most to formats that play perfectly with PrPro.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere Pro CC Not Reading .mov Files from Screenium

    Hey
I have a screen capture tool called screenium for my mac. I use it to recorde gameplay and ever since I installed an SSD into my mac I have not been able to read these files .mov files, Premiere only sees the video as green, the audio is intact but the footage doesnt exist as far as premiere is concerned. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere but the problem still exists.
On a nother note that is worth mentioning, sometimes this program does not compress the files as it is suposed to and I end up with 40GB files on my SSD. When I had an HDD I was able to open the files in Premiere with no problem and export them as smaller files.
    Any help would be great!

  • Premiere Pro CC not using previews on export

I'm using PP CC on a decked out iMac(i7, 32Gb RAM, 14TB RAID, internal SSD) and my exports are very slow even when "use previews" is checked. Thing is, I don't think PP is using those previews. During the export I can see that aerendercore and importerREDserver are running. The sequence is already rendered so it shouldn't be pulling in the raw files from the red server or going to AE to render the linked ae comps. Right?

I've been through this discussion before ... talk about deja vu all over again!
The best explanation I have received was at NAB, with two of the heavy-lifter behind-the-scenes staff of Adobe's video programs. Long and involved discussion, one of those where for about the next ten minutes I felt very enlightened on video processing, codecs, and computer hardware design & usage. And then reverted to a normal human status over the next hour. Ah well.
Basically, there's only a couple 'codecs' where it is even possible to utilize previews in a render-out full export. They're huge puppies and most of us don't have the massive-capable machines that can handle that stuff on the fly for editing purposes. As to the rest ... remember, PrPro is like Lightroom, NOT Photoshop. It never makes a complete new 'file' when 'saved' like say Photoshop does, but only stores the info of the changes you have called for to be applied to the original footage, similar to Lightroom. And note, just as Lightroom can create p-views of various sizes up to 1-1, it never utilizes those highly-compressed p-views when you want to create or "export" a final form of the image for use. It takes the recipe of what you've ordered done to the original image and creates a version of that image with that look in the size and file-format (think codec) of your choosing. Which has nothing to do with the file-format (codec) of the internal-use p-view, even a 1-1 p-view.
When viewing a monitor during PrPro, Sg, & AeFx, that's what you're seeing: the original footage with your changes added to it on the fly ... for the most part. In all three programs there are things complex enough that it will create new viewable bits & pieces but in very few situations will it ever completely create a new run of footage. You'd howl if it did ... think of the massive increase of stuff on your drives if it behaved that way! The bits it stores as "Previews" are neither complete new forms of your original footage nor are they of the quality you'd want or the particular nature of pixel-structure for any specific codec you want an output prepared into.
When you render sections, or even entire clips/sequences for previews it renders those frames and sections of frames that are problematic into an internally-chosen codec that is quick for it to use on the fly and looks ok, and constantly intermixes those bits with original frame and the 'recipe' of what is being called for. It does NOT make an entirely new & complete form of the original footage with all changes applied.
Apparently, there has been discussion internally as to whether the "Use previews for export" button should simply disappear unless you are using one of about two video formats that actually "live" in PrPro as full-res/size files. I asked why this hadn't been done, and the response was ... it's been considered. It would save a lot of hassle, grief, and arguments if they did, is what I'm thinking. The vast majority of us don't have one of those rigs that's like four super-Macs built into one "single" computer. Or a mobo with 8 different quad-or-better core cpu's, that sort of thing. We're not working directly in the formats that need such hardware.

  • Premiere Pro is not reading all of the video content in my AVCHD clip. I know this because my computer plays all of the content through Preview, so the information is on the card. How do I get Premiere to read all of the content?

Premiere Pro is not reading all of the video content in my AVCHD clip. I know this because my computer plays all of the content through Preview, so the information is on the card. How do I get Premiere to read all of the content?

First, AVCHD isn't just "one" clip, it splits the video & audio into several files each per clip, typically with randomly generated names. The only way they "play" correctly is if the software doing so is able to read from the data file ...in a different folder ... the information that X clip is actually A, B, D, #@, and 456 video clips and TR, #r54, and ert$%4 audio clips. The next "clip" is ... and on and on. So both rapid access to the video files AND that database file are necessary to play the files back, or do anything else with them.
VLC is a fairly decent but simple playback tool. It's nowhere near as complicated nor demanding in its "relationship" with those clips as an NLE like PrPro, which will be trying to do more reading & writing.
Further, many of the preferences in PrPro are natively set so that it writes project, cache, preview, & database files next to the footage. So ... if it doesn't have both a fast enough connection with the data AND space for putting all of it's own stuff there, it tells you it can't work the file.
Therefore ... the need to have the complete data from the card in the exact same folder structure it was in ON the card copied to a "local" hard drive.

  • Why does Adobe Premiere Pro modify original footage/asset files (e.g. mov)? (CS6)

    Background:
A colleague had given me a large 33Gb .mov for use in a project, I put this file on a backup drive.
I made an identical copy of this 33Gb .mov file and placed it in a folder that I'd use to work on a Premiere Pro Project.
I ran Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and dragged in the 33Gb .mov file into the Sequence (imported it)
Premiere Pro CS6 started conforming the file.
After it had finished, I noticed that it's Modified Date was just now i.e different to the Modified Date on the original copy of the file on the backup drive (see step 1)
I ran a BeyondCompare check between the .mov file on the backup drive (see step 1) and the one that the Premiere Pro project was using (step 2, 3) and Beyond Compare reported they were different.
I had initially thought it was unrelated file corruption of some kind, but I have checked this several times and got the same outcome, so it's definitely Premiere Pro deliberately modifying the file.
So I am puzzled: these are supposed to be the same file.
Why would there be a need for Adobe Premiere Pro to modify the footage?
What does it do to the file?
Would it not be better to create a separate file if necessary?
I can accept this if that's how it works and it's good to know that it was Premiere Pro deliberately modifying the files and not corruption (so my hardware ought to be healthy). But it makes more sense to me if Premiere Pro made separate modified copies for its own use. Modifying the file as it does hinders my process for checking the integrity of backups; if the original asset footage files were the same as earlier copies then it would be easy to know that the backups are OK.
    Thoughts?

Definitive Answer (I believe): It's all about this setting, "Write XMP ID To Files On Import" - which confirms that Adobe Premiere Pro is deliberately modifying the .mov file: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/preferences.html#WSE3BD4A43-7022-4fe6-97F5-95313 935347B
These posts give some background as to why having this setting enabled would be beneficial: one benefit being to be able to skip conforming files by matching the conformed file with the original using the embedded XMP tag :-

  • HELP! Premiere pro could not retrieve the 'my documents' folder location?!

    Hi
I just installed Creative Cloud and downloaded Premiere CS6.
When I start it, I get two dialogue boxes saying the same thing...
"adobe premiere pro could not retrieve the 'my documents' folder location. The application will make use of a temporary folder for this session..."
When I then go to export to Media Encoder, it crashes repeatedly.
I am unable to find the My Documents folder on my system - it's a new system and must have been set up strangely.
Can someone please help here as I am unable to run my video editing business when I can't export files!
    Thanks

  • After effects warning could not create the file

    Hi,
I am fairly new to After effects, (so new that I haven't managed to save a file). Can anyone help with this? I am running CS6 on an oldish mac pro, but flash and premiere run fine, and so does after effects, except it won't let me save, and instead comes up with this message: after effects warning could not create the file.
I have even tried saving a file with just a jpeg in it, and it still won't let me.
Any suggestions? I am a bit confused.

When you save in AE, you're saving the project file -- which inclues all your work in the comp -- but you can't save the comp itself to a media file.  It doesn't work that way.  You have to export or use the AE Render Queue.
I recommend spending some quality time here.

  • Premiere Pro "3 frame" render preview glitch

When I create a render preview in Premiere Pro, sometimes the render preview renders the same frame for three consecutive frames. In other words, after the render preview is complete, the render preview creates three consecutive frames that are the same, and then moves on to the fourth frame. It looks like a jump cut where there is none. this costs me a lot of time, since to fix it I have to unrender and then rerender my render preview.
How can I avoid this problem?

Hey Ann, I know that deleting the render files and rerendering will work. But this costs me a lot of time.
Is there a way to avoid this glitch in the first place?
It happens quite often. Am I doing something to cause this glitch?

    Hi,
We face the same problem with some BI4 reports.
The same report works well with the "Crystal Reports Viewers API", as used in Infoview, but not with the "Report Application Server (RAS) API".
This error appears after some time working on a report. If we reproduce the same report, but from zero, no problem.

  • After Effects warning: Could not create the file '/Users/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.0/dummy

I have just downloaded the trial After Effects CC. I'm running Mavericks 10.9.4 on my Macbook Pro.
When I try to launch After Effects, this message appears:
"After Effects warning: Could not create the file '/Users/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.0/dummy'"
I have followed the advice from other posts on this issue regarding resetting all of the permissions in the Adobe folder in my library to read and write , but it doesn't change anything. I still get the same message when I try to launch the program. Moreover, there is no After Effects folder in my Adobe folder, even though it's clearly in my Applications folder.
I also uninstalled After Effects and tried to reinstall it, but to no avail.
I sure would like to give it a try, as I was planning on purchasing it, but this is just one more issue in a long irritating line of issues that have arisen since trying to download it from CC.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks.

I am having this problem and this response does not make sense. I made the "Preferences" ,"Adobe" & "After Effects" folder along with the 10.0,11.0,13.0,13.2 folders all read/write. Can't seem to find an answer.

  • Aperture not creating previews - one reason

I've been investigating why Aperture is failing to create previews. In my system it will only create previews for a specific set of images and not matter what I do it's always the same images.
So I looked at the difference between the images it would create previews for and the image it would not. The difference I found was that the images which Aperture would not create previews for no longer had their import directories.
Aperture appears to work by creating these directories when you import the images. They are stored in the project you import into. Aperture stores the image previews in these directories so if they are missing Aperture appears to silently fail on creating the preview.
How I think I lost mine was that I imported a large number of images into a project and then moved them to other projects as I sorted through them. Aperture does NOT move the import directories to the new projects with the images.
I deleted the original project and because it still contained the import directories for the images, I can now no longer create previews for those images.
The only solution I can think of to fix this is to re-import all the images which have lost their import directories, this time being more careful to not delete the projects.
Does anyone have any ideas on ways that these directories (and the files within them) can be re-created (without importing) ?
    ciao
    Derek

What was happening to me was this:
    a. import images into project (a).
    b. Create a new empty project (b).
    c. Move images from project (a) to project (b).
    d. Delete project (a).
    e. Open package contents of the Aperture library.
    f. Check project (b) and there is no *.apimportgroup directory. Hence nowhere for Aperture to put the previews.
Currently I have exported all my images and am re-importing. Its the only way I can think of to re-create the *.apimportgroup directories.
Rule of thumb: if you intent to delete a project, check for *.apimportgroup directories first. I have not tried to manually copy them to other projects so I don't know if that would get around this.
    ciao

  • Premiere Pro Does Not Support Audio-Only Capture For Some Formats, Such As HDV?

In the PPro CS 5.5 Help file  under, "Recording audio", it says:
"Note: To capture an audio-only file from a digital video source, choose Audio from the Capture menu in the Logging pane of the Capture panel.
"Premiere Pro does not support audio-only capture for some formats, such as HDV."
I'm shooting in HDV and if I want to capture audio only, would I just need to switch my setting to DV?
The only thing is my Canon HV20's HDV audio is MPEG-1 Audio Layer 2, 16 bit, 48 kHz.
My DV setting is PCM audio, which I think is a better quality format, right?
Would there be any noticeable difference?
    Thanks.

Capture your HDV material in the normal way and just drag audio only from the source monitor to the timeline.
