Premiere Pro CC playback issue

I'm running premiere pro CC on a brand new mac pro, and am experiencing playback issues after rendering video. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why this happens, but I do notice it when layering multiple video tracks. When the rendered video is playedback, it seems to drop frames in the program monitor. Essentially, it looks like a flicker effect has been applied, and the video will cut out rapidly, and a black screen with apear every other frame. This stops randomly, and normal playback resumes.
I've had this issue working with Red footage, Canon DSLR footage and GoPro footage... Footage type doesn't seem to affect it. It doesn't necessairly happen when a transition or edit has been applied... I can't figure out any sort of cause.
Any insight would be much appreciated.

  • Premiere Pro CC2014 Playback issues, Render issues, Serious Error issues

Here's my problem.  Premiere Pro CC worked amazing. Never had any issues with playback, rendering - nothing. However, CC 2014 appears to be quite different. Yesterday I literally had to restart Premiere every 20 minutes! Out of no where video playback would stop. The playhead would continue and I could still here audio, but I either saw a still frame of video or it would go completely black. The only way to get out of Premiere was to force quit. I also was not able to save the process I had made over the last 20 minute session.  You can imagine my frustration as I have clients in with me on this edit. I need to know a fix and I need to know it quick. If Adobe wants to be in the professional game, they need to fix it ASAP.
    Here's what I'm running.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 playback issues & graphics glitches

    Hi everyone.
For a few days now (not sure whether it's been like this since the latest update) I have been experiencing serious playback issues and graphics glitches with Premiere Pro CS6. I'm on a Macbook Pro Retina.
Please see attached screenshot for reference. What happens is, I start Premiere - it works fine for a few minutes, but at some point things start to go wrong. The program monitor doesn't show anything anymore, even though the playhead is moving and I get audio.
Sometimes, either the program monitor or the source monitor displays some other part of the Premiere UI or even OSX Finder windows/ other applications like safari. What you are seing in the screenshot is a glitch showing a part of the source window within the program window.
Once this happens, there's nothing I can do but to restart Premiere.
Does anyone else have these kinds of issues?
Premiere is becoming unusable for me at the moment, which is a serious issue since this is my primary NLE.
What also happens from time to time is the following: i start up my project, and once i do anything like moving the playhead, i receive the following error message "a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down" which then does exactly what it says. this will happen repeateadly until i restart my computer.
    Thanks for your help.

    Welcome to the forum.
Make sure you have the latest driver for your video card, and if you're using hardware mercury playback, then make sure you have the latest CUDA drivers from nvidia.  If that doesn't work, then please answer the questions here as completely as you can:

    Hello all -
I am trying to edit, render, and export a video for play on YouTube.  The source is a Camtasia Studio 8 Screen capture with a 1080P High Defintion PTZ camera that is hooked up to the computer as the "webcam".  We recorded the screen, used Camtasia to produce and edit, and saved it as a .MOV
I then transferred the .MOV to my computer and opened Premiere Pro CC.  I have been watching a lot of YouTube videos and have a read a lot of threads, so I decided that a simple edit job would be the easiest and fastest.  I have attempted this 3 times now, each try has been a failure.
    Attempt 1:
Opened a new project.  Imported my video.  Dropped it into a sequence.  Added an opening and closing title card, plus lower third captions to video, and added transitions.  Playback was choppy, so I read that it needed to be rendered.  I rendered the sequence (it took most of the evening).  When I went to play it back, I just got footage that said "Media pending" in 7 different languages.
Attempt 2:  I decided not to render, just export.  Followed the steps above, but instead of rendering, and exported it.  I exported as media file, chose the TechSmith Capture Codec, and .AVI as the format.  Let it do it's thing.  The result was very fuzzy, plus the audio was about 10 seconds out of sync from the video.
Attempt 3:  I didn't get very far here, because when I started playback to check my audio syncing, my computer started flipping between Premiere and my desktop, just swtiching back and forth.
Any help here, suggestions, would be very much appreciated.  I need to post this video for work as soon as I can.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Playback Unusable-PLAYBACK ISSUES

    Hello,
I've just downloaded the Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Trial, but whenever I put a clip in the sequence timeline, the playback stops after a second or so. I filmed my screen to show the problem (computer specs at the end of the video). Is it because the sequence settings do not match the clip's properties? I'm also new to Adobe Premiere.
    Here's the video:

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Playback and Performance Issues

I upgraded (2) separate editing work stations to CS5 from CS4 about a month ago. I moved from 4 to 5 to try and get rid of some problems which both work stations were encountering.
The problems since the upgrade are similiar: playback from timeline has intermittent audio drop out and video going to black during playback, (new one)-video locked up but audio kept playing-system hung and had to be rebooted.
Also, when clicking around on the timeline or scrubbing the timeline, Premiere crashes.
This type of performance on playout or timeline usage is consistent on both machines which have indentical setups and builds. None of this happens all the time but happens enough to causes problems with workflow. We edit on the work stations, dub files to playback system for air, and use a shared server to move files back and forth as needed but files are always stored locally instead of using straight from server.
    These machines are:
    Premiere Pro CS5.02
OS  WIndows 7 Pro 64 bit
    12 GB Ram, DDR3-1333 (6-2GB modules)
CPU Intel Xeon Quad Core [email protected] GHZ, 2 processors, 8 MB Cache
500 GB SATA 2 hard drive, 7200 RPM, 32 MC (System Drive)...309 GB of space avail
    (3) 1 TB SATA 2 hard drives, 7200RPM, 32 MC (3 TB, RAID0 STorage) 2.16 TB of space avail
Nvidia GE Force 9800 GT Graphics card, DUAL DVI, 1 GB
REaltek High Def Audio, Drivers 6.0.1.5953
    (1) monitor in use
output of system runs to ADVC-700 breakout box to feed playback system
I have all of my software installed on C: (309 GB of 500 GB avail)
I have all of my videos files stored on D: (Raid Storage with 2.16 TB of 3 TB avail)
The only changes I've made since installing CS5 would be to change the auto save from 20 minutes to 60 minutes. Don't know if an auto save would cause an issue on playback as I've noted above.
I'm not a computer whiz by any stretch of the imagination but I can follow directions if given for testing/eval.

Do the PPBM5 Benchmark and send the results to me by PM, in addition to sending the results to Bill as indicated. I'll have a look at what might be going on here.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 - playback and C300 issues

    Hi,
I seem to be having an issue with Premiere Pro playback.
At the moment, I'm looking through a rough assemble I've done on a PPro sequence and then the playback will start getting choppy. The only solution seems to be rebooting PPro, which is obviously very frustrating. The footage is C300 files, stored on my RAID. Why is this happening?
My system details are as follows:
MBP early 2011, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD
6TB Pegasus R6 RAID connected via Thunderbolt
    30" ACD
    Mac OS 10.7.4 , PPro 6.0.1
I use a 2-screen setup, so the 30" monitor will have the PPro tools and seq etc, whilst I use the 17" MBP screen as a viewing monitor.
Another issue I had which is more annoying that anything is that when I imported the rushes from my C300, PPro decided to import a fairly long (80") interview as loads of separate .MXF files RATHER than joining them together, which FCP seemed to have no problem in doing...How do I sort that out?
    Thanks

I am having precisely the same problem as bricklaneeditor, and have exactly the same setup: MBP early 2011, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD,
    30" ACD, Mac OS 10.7.4 , PPro 6.0.1
Indeed, a restart of Premiere Pro always fixes the problem -- for a while.  I've also seen similar behavior in Media Composer 6.0.1 once or twice so am wondering whether it's an issue with this machine/OS, as the playback software architectures are so different on those two NLE's.
I should also mention that the problem is not isolated to any particular file format -- have seen it with timelines containing 7D footage, HDV and ProRes files.
I strongly suspect some sort of problem on either Apple's or Adobe's end with the GPU in this machine, as it is ATI and not Nvidia -- and is, as far as I know, the only non-CUDA GPU, at least on the Mac side, certified to work with the CS6 Mercury Playback Engine.
Also wondering whether an over-the-top or a clean install of Mountain Lion might shake things up enough to make a difference.  (Otherwise I'm in no big hurry to upgrade my OS.)  Is anyone seeing this problem with PPro under 10.8?  Might be worth installing 10.8 over an external HDD clone of the System drive and booting temporarily from the clone just to see if the problem persists in Premiere.
Anyone have any thoughts on these possibilities?

  • Premiere Pro CS5 playback stops with Canon DSLR footage

I am using Canon DSLR footage (5D and 1D). When I import the footage for the first time everything works OK. If I save, close and reopen the project without doing anyother activity on my PC everything continues to work OK.
My problem is that after I close the project and start doing other activity on the PC e.g. using Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash etc and not necessarily all of them, and then reopen Premiere Pro I then start to get a problem with playback stopping on the timeline after about 5-10 seconds.
What I have found is that if I import a fresh Canon DSLR file from the camera then everything starts working fine again until I start using other programs.
There must be something on my PC that is causing a conflict but I can't work out what it is.
Are there any known issues that might help me solve this problem.
My PC is running Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit. I have two x 2.66Ghz quad core processors (NOT hyperthreading), 12 GB RAM, Nvidia FX 4800 graphics card.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I have finally resolved this problem and it is several weeks since the "fix" with no repeat of the problem.
I uninstalled Nero from my system and straight away the problem resolved.
I noticed that prior to removing Nero that it was taking priority over Quicktime which, I think, was causing the conflict with codec for the Canon DSLR files in Premier.
It has now been 4 weeks since I removed Nero and there has been no sign of the problem of the video footage stopping in playback on the timeline.

  • Premiere Pro 2014 playback delay/lag

I have the latest version of Premiere, running on a RAID with about 2.5 TB worth of space. Mac OS 10.9. 32GB of RAM.
Seemingly overnight, I have a small hiccup when telling things to play or rewind in the Timeline window. I'll hit spacebar, L or J and it will hold for about a second and then pick up a second forward in the timeline. Same with pausing. It will hold for a second before finally pausing playback. The actual playback of the videos is clean, there's no lag or glitchingas the playhead moves through the middle of a clip. It's only when STARTING or STOPPING.
I've emptied my cache several times, checked my RAM, restarted the computer. Tried in multiple projects with everything from ARRI ProRes to 5D H.264s.
I thought for a second it was my wireless keyboard but I've been using it for a couple weeks now and haven't experienced issues in other programs. And the issue still occurs when I hit the play button in the Source of Program panels.
What could the problem be? Thanks for any and all help.

I checked to see if this slow start happened in older versions of Premiere Pro CC. It doesn't, only the 2014 release.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Performance Issues

Hi.  I have been using Premiere Pro CS5 5.0.3 for editing videos that I shoot for several years now.  I offload all the video files I shoot from a Canon XHA1 camera from a SanDisk compactflash card to a Drobo S Raid 0 array (all the drives in the Drobo are Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm drives) that I have hooked up (via an eSATA cable).
This has worked well for me but I have been noticing that I am now getting more dropped frame errors both in the program and source monitors.  I started a new project yesterday:
    General
    Editing mode: DV NTSC
    Timebase: 29.97fps
    Video Settings
    Frame size: 720h 480v (1.2121)
    Frame rate: 29.97 frames/second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV NTSC Widescreen 16:9 (1.2121)
    Fields: Lower Field First
and when I imported the footage into Premiere Pro I started getting more dropped frames and sluggish playback as to render Premiere Pro very aggravating.  It is still usable but the situation is growing worse.  Here are my system settings that I dumped from Belarc:

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 - Export issue.

    Hello to the Adobe Community!
Maybe someone here can help me out with some Premiere issues.
    I am using Premiere Pro CS4 4.2.1.
    I'm on Windows 7 64 (Ultimate N).
    My system is:
    Intel Core i5CPU [email protected]
    3GB RAM
I have updated all Adobe software, and my drivers.
I've had a good look over the forums and I found this article. It's very useful, and hoping it would be my saviour, I went through all the advice given.
    Still no luck!
I'm trying to export the media from Premiere to Media Encoder.
    My sequence settings are:
    1280 x 720
    Square pixel aspect ratio
    25fps
    48000HZ - Stereo
    My render settings are:
    MPEG2 - DVD
    PAL HIGH QUALITY
Everything else is left to the default setting.
When I try to encode via the Media Encoder, it gets to about 1/3rd of the way through and I get a message:
    'Encoding Failed
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.
I have also tried, as per previous posts, to use the Adobe Dynamic Link, both from Premiere out to Encore, and importing in from Premiere when I'm in Encore.
Still no luck! I get an 'encode failed' message when I try to transcode it. I'm pulling out my hair with this one.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
NB: This is my first post on this forum, so apologies if I have missed anything out.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
    Em.

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions - Evan I think you might be right on the memory issue.
I tried one last thing - running Premiere in compatibility mode as an administrator.
Again, it failed after about 7 minutes. It's quite a complicated project, but it's only 14 minutes long.
The strange thing is that although it doesn't seem to render on my work pc, it renders on my home pc, which has similar specs:
    CPU: Intel Core i5 760 2.8GHZ 8MB
    MEMORY: 4GB (2x2GB) PC12800 DDR3/1600mhz Dual Channel Memory
MOTHERBOARD: Asus P7P55-M Intel P55 Chipset
    NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 1GB
I forgot to say that my work pc, listed above uses an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT card.
Do you think that 1GB can really make all the difference?
Sorry if that's a stupid question, I don't have a massive amount of technical knowledge.
    Cheers!
    Em.

  • Premiere Pro audio sync issues with 48khz audio on video file and 44.1khz audio on external audio

So, I recorded video and audio on my Canon 5D Mark II at 1080p, 23.976 fps, and 48khz, 16-bit Stereo audio. And I used a Zoom H4 to record an mp3 audio file at 44.1khz Compressed. When trying to sync the audio in Premiere Pro CC, the audio slowly loses sync over time. I already tried to convert the 44.1khz mp3 file to 48khz in Adobe Audition. But that didn't fix the problem. Any ideas?

There's always time-stretch changes to the audio file with "keep pitch unchanged" checked, I suppose. Mind you, I've heard of people doing it but haven't done it myself. There's other possible options I'm sure. There's been quite a few threads here on time-sync issues over time.

I just updated my After Effects and Premiere Pro to CC and since doing so I've found numerous performance issues.  One that is seriously hurting my workflow is the poor performance of the dynamic link with After Effects compositions into Premiere Pro.   In CS6, you could make a change to the AE composition, save it, click over to Premiere Pro and it would quickly update and you can play your timeline and preview your changes.  You could also move the clips around and add cross dissolves and watch the changes quickly in Premiere Pro CS6.  Now, since updating to CC, if you save the composition in AE and click over to Premiere Pro it won't update on its own.  Sometimes it just shows a single frame of the AE composition.  I found that if you right click and "Edit Original", go into AE and then click back over to Premiere Pro and it will finally update.   But if you make any changes to the placement of the AE composition on the timeline, or add a cross dissolve, fade, etc. it again won't play the AE composition any longer.  After you make any changes to the AE composition you have to right click and go to "Edit Original", go into AE, and then click back over to Premiere Pro.. Then it will finally update.

    Thanks Kevin.
Unfortunately in my case the export doesn't solve the issue. The video only looks good while in the composition... I've tried exporting it in all the different formats with several codecs, but to no avail...

  • Premiere Pro CS6 playback freezes, regenerates .pek and .cfa files

When I try to watch something in a sequence, the Program Monitor freezes. The playhead moves in the timeline as usual and the audio plays just fine, but the visual freezes. Sometimes it stops a few seconds after I start playing and sometimes the video never plays at all. When I stop playback, it remains frozen for a while, then resets to the frame the playhead is on.
As I checked different options, I discovered Premiere is regenerating both the .pek and .cfa files every time I open it, even though all of my projects have already conformed. I have it set to store the media files with the project, so I know the preview files have not moved or been deleted. I work on this setup 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and nothing changed since I was in yesterday. It was working fine when I shut it down last night, no one could have logged in while I was gone, and this morning it doesn't work. No updates were installed, no files were moved, no drives switched.
I have searched the internet for help, but all of the forums I've found are at least two months old and recommend installing the 6.0.3 update. I did run updates for all my Adobe software, and it didn't help. I also deleted and re-rendered my peak and cfa files.
One six-month-old forum said that Premiere CS6 cannot playback long AVCHD .m2ts files. Previously I had no problem working with .m2ts files 35 minutes and shorter, or with .mp4 files up to 75 minutes long. The video I'm currently working with is about 75 minutes long. And again, it was working fine yesterday.
Further investigation revealed that playback does not freeze when I import a selection from the Source Monitor (vs. importing from the Bin and trimming in the Timeline) and do not layer clips or apply effects.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.
    Media Spec:
    File type: AVCHD Video
    Resolution: 1920x1080 (1080p), 29 fps
Imported from camera hard drive using PlayMemories Home
    Computer Spec:
    Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
    Windows 7, 64-bit Service Pack 1
Graphics card is Quadro 5000, driver 276.19
OS/boot drive is a solid state 250gig, and files running off a 2TB local hard drive

    I've tried several more things.
The playback does not freeze if I have only one clip in the timeline.
If I have clips on two or more video tracks, it starts freezing.
Once I clear it down to one video track, it takes a couple of seconds (up to 30) to start playing normally again.
Sometimes I can play two tracks for several minutes before it freezes. Sometimes it freezes immediately.
When I open Premiere, I get the "Media Pending" screen for way longer than usual.
I have rebuilt the peak and cfa files, no difference. GPU accelerator is enabled. The latest Adobe updates are installed.
I see a few other forums with similar problems but no solution.
No settings, file formats, or file locations have changed since Monday (the last time CS6 was working properly). After a lot of digging around I found that a Windows Defender Definition update was installed the morning of the day PP started freaking out. I can't get rid of this update.
I edit two or more hours of footage per day. They are lectures, so they are recorded in 1-3 hour chunks. I use two videos simultaneously--one with the professor's powerpoint presentation, and one of the professor. I keyframe the PPT video into the corner, overlaid over the lecturer. I did this for years without problem in CS5.5 and for two months without problem on my current setup.
