Premiere Pro CC Video Aspect Ratio is changed on render

We have a really weird problem in Premiere. Once you add a few filters and change the scale of a clip and then render it, it changes the aspect ratio.  The aspect ratio has no been changed in scale.  Any ideas?

I'm having a problem that sounds very similar, but I don't understand how you fixed it.  Can you explain further please?  My video looks fine, but when I render there is a small black bar on the right side (but only on the parts that needed rendering), so I'm assuming that must be changing the aspect ratio (the video jumps to the left a little).  I exported the footage without rendering it, but it obviously does that for you upon export and it's on my final video.  I would really appreciate some help if you know how to fix this!  Thanks much!!

  • After upgrading to Premiere Pro CC 2014, I can't change the render preview location

Ever since I downloaded Premiere Pro CC 2014, I cannot re-route my render preview files. I have two internal hard drives and I need the files to go to my secondary one. With CC, it did this just fine, but since I've upgraded to 2014, it will not do it. I've set it the same way I did before in Preferences/Media, then set the Media Cache Files and Media Cache Database to the new hard drive.  It's eating all my hard drive space and I cannot render or export a large sequence. Is there a trick to this I'm missing that has changed?

Thanks Neil! I'm actually wondering how to change where the preview files go. I've attached two screen grabs. Right now my media cache is going to my SATA drive (my smaller of my two internal hard drives and the drive where Premiere Pro is located.) I want to re-route my render files to go to my Macintosh HD drive which is much larger and gives me more breathing room. I could do that before but since I've upgraded to 2014, even though I have it set in preferences, it STILL goes to my SATA drive. So annoying! I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if it's a bug. I'm still running Mountain Lion (getting ready to finally upgrade, I've just been needing to backup my computer), could this be the reason? Any ideas? Thanks so much for the help!

  • Aspect ratio suddenly changes in LR develop window without user interaction

I imported some Nikon NEF images with sidecar JPEGs using NikonView/NikonTransfer (rotate image turned on). Afterwards I imported the images into Lightroom (copy to new locacation). The LR option "treat JPEG files next to RAW files as seperate" is turned off.
I can see every image with correct orientation in the Lightroom Library.
But for 2 images when I switch to LR Develop the aspect ratio suddenly changes in film strip and large image display. The image is a 2:3 image but in Develop window it is shown as 3:2 image (not rotated but errorneously shrinked/stretched). That is really strange. I did nothing else than switching between Library and Develop! No rotation, no crop, nothing.
I can toggle between Library and Develop window: The image is shown 2:3 in Library and 3:2 in Develop.
This behaviour occurs for 2 images, not for all images.

For some reason it just started to work now. Have no idea what didn't work before.

  • Video aspect ratio looks wrong in Quicktime Player

When I export a movie as a Quicktime file (ending in .mov) and then play the movie using the Quicktime Player, the aspect ratio (4:3) of the movie looks wrong, as if it is "squished down" vertically. If I open the file in FCE, the movie looks normal.
The same thing used to happen with the .mov movie file that older versions of iMovie used to create; in Quicktime Player the aspect ratio looked wrong. In this case, if I open the original QT clips (created by iMovie during import) in the Player, they looked normal. It was only if I opened the .mov file created by iMovie that referenced all those clips (in the order they appeared in the sequence) that the aspect ratio was odd. If I open any of those items directly in FCE they look normal.
I think this is behavior of the Player and not a problem with FCE (or iMovie) or the video file. I'm just wondering why this is happening and if there's any way to make the Player show the movie with the correct aspect ratio.
    Thanks!

    Hi Tom:
Affected video was imported in one of two ways:
    (1) From an old Digital8 Sony camcorder, using DV-NTSC 32Khz, directly captured into FCE.
    (2) From a Canon GL2 camcorder, using Firewire Basic DV-NTSC (48Khz), captured using an old version of iMovie. The video clips are imported into FCE and rendered.
Affected video is either exported from FCE using Export>Quicktime Movie..., or is not exported at all but simply viewed in the Quicktime Player after capture. That is, capturing from within FCE, quitting FCE, finding the captured video, and opening it in Player.
Recall that the video aspect ratio also looks wrong when playing the Quicktime file generated by iMovie (which references but doesn't contain the actual video clips), but the ratio looks right when playing the actual clips found in the Media folder, within the iMovie project folder.
However, I also have some video that I captured from the Canon for a wedding, and when I play that captured file in Player, it does NOT appear to have the wrong aspect ratio, so I'm a bit confused why this might vary.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Premiere keeps ruining my aspect ratio when I export xml

    Hi.
I've got an issue with when I export out XML, when I bring it back into Premiere its changing the aspect ratio and giving my talent a very stretched out and tall apperance.
I'm exporting out so I can go sync up in Plural eyes and come back into premeire.
I have talked to red giant support and they had me do a test with just making some xml file and bringing it back into premiere and that screwed it up too, so its not them.
    what should I do?
and honestly maybe I need a fresh install. I worked with phone support last month to fix some serial # issues with my dynamic link and my workflow has been full of crashes and bugs ever since.
    thanks,
    John

thanks. I'll try deleting the preferences.
I ended up getting it done but having to do a bunch of goofy copy and paste stuff.
I'm reluctant to call but I'm sure adobe 3rd world techsupport will suggest taking over my machine, lets have half a day of downtime and reinstall all the same stuff.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Video Playback Problem/Bug

I have been editing a video for the past few weeks, but recently, after I have been editing for a few minutes, all of a sudden my video won't play in the playback window. When I hit the play button (or the space bar) it does nothing - just sits there. All of the clips are rendered (with the green bar), but I cant see my changes because it doesn't play. I am even able to move the cursor along the timeline and it will show the video in the playback window, but it won't play back in real time. Like I said I have been using Premiere Pro CS6 for a while and havent had this problem until now. Also, when I drag a clip into the preview window, it doesn't play either (but I am able to move the cursor along the timeline). I have to shut down Premiere and open it up again, then it works for a few minutes again, and then the same problem occurs. Please help! The specs for my lap top are as follows: Macbook Pro Retina Display, 2.6 GHZ i7, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD

Do you ONLY have that single 500gig drive?
If yes, you are below specification... which requires a separate drive for video files
An EXAMPLE concerning trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the
orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do
Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct
the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with
your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another
very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more on partitions) with Windows (or Mac OS)
and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is
not slowed down by trying to do everything
Do not try to use a USB2 external drive for video editing, the USB2 file transfer speed
    is too slow
External eSata or USB3 are both fast enough for video editing... eSata is better -

  • Premiere Elements 3.0- Aspect ratio of inserted pictures is skewed

I am inserting some pictures into my project that are the exact same size (720x480) as my final video export, however, they are getting squished down in the previews and in the final export, look more like 640x480.
Is there a way I can control this or prevent it from happening?
    Thanks in advance!

If you've got Photoshop CS - CS4, you can change the pixel aspect ratio of your photos to .9 DV.
Otherwise, you can right-click on one of the pictures on the timeline and select Open Properties. Then open the Motion settings and uncheck Constrain Proportions for Scale and set the scale for the horizontal to 90%. That should make that picture perfect.
Then right-click on that picture on your timeline and select Copy, then lasso or shift-click to select all the other photos on your timeline, right-click and select Paste Attributes.
Great book I wrote, by the way. Full of gems like this! ;)

  • Captivate videos - aspect ratio and skin

    1. When I import video into captivate, it correctly keeps the same width and height of the source video IF I do not use the haloSkin. If I use the haloSkin (which is always visible and creates a frame around the video), the video itself shrinks to put the skin around it, but it also loses its aspect ratio and becomes squished vertically. There's no easy way to adjust the video so it uses the proper aspect ratio or even width and height without manually eyeballing it. Am I missing something?
    2. Are the video skins customizable? If I wanted to do something simple like change the haloSkin to be colored black instead of white, is that possible?
    Thanks,
    Keith

    1) The haloSkin subtracts 20 px from the width and 50 px from the height of event videos, which is not only counter-intuitive but obnoxious because it does indeed mess up the aspect ratio of your video as you noted. So a 640x480 video object with the skin applied has a video area of 620x430. Fortunately the 20 and 50 are absolute, and don't change with the size of the video object. This means that you can just add 20 to the width and 50 to the height of the video object to get your video back to the correct size. (a video object with dimensions 660x530 and the haloSkin applied has a video area of 640x480)
    2) I'm unaware of any way to edit the skins.

  • Final cut pro: correct for aspect ratio: I'M FRIGHTENED!!!!!!!

    Hi,
I'm working on video and I'm now capturing all my video for a project.
I'm using dv and so I'm set to dv NTSC 48khz 720x480.
I don't know if this means anything, but I'm shooting on 24p.
anyway something is scaring me and I don't want to start editing until I know it's safe.
    here it is:
VIDEOS LOOKED STRETCHED WHEN "CORRECT FOR ASPECT RATIO" IS CHECKED. THEY LOOK NORMAL WHEN IT IS UNCHECKED.
SHOULDN'T THE OPPOSITE BE THE CASE???????
OR IS THIS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT?
    I'M FRIGHTENED!

    Thanks for your replies.
I actually called apple and had a long complicated conversation. Part of the problem is my own limited brain capacity.
I like making movies but I'm really bad at this kind of technical stuff. But the project is really important and involves a lot of people's donated time as well as my own countless hours. So I should make it as good as I can.
What I've managed to realize is that my panasonic dvx100a is set to "letterbox." I didn't know this but I think that, first off, this is a bit of a problem.
I imported about 5 hours of video on easy settings (NTSC all formats) although I shot on 24p so I should have tried 24p import settings first.
Now, in the past, before I updated FCP I wasn't even aware of all of this and I still don't have a great grasp on aspect ratio and import settings (amongst other things).
Now with the video I've imported if I go into the clips and uncheck "anamorphic" on every clip the video does look normal. Otherwise it looks squashed.
But after unchecking anamorphic the video has black bars not only on the top and bottom but also on the sides.
It floats on black - a box in black.
This is acceptable but not preferable. It's what I've done in the past without realizing that it was abnormal.
Not I feel it's abnormal but I don't know how to change this situation.
I'm a bit of a dolt. I have a hard time with this technical stuff so some of your comments are tough to understand.
I know I should read up on it and improve my understanding.
But I honestly don't have much time.
If unchecking anamorphic makes it look normal then I'll live with the video floating on black.
If there are easy suggestions I'd be so grateful for them.
Even if it means reimporting all the video I might be up for it.
But once I start editing there's no going back.
What do you think I should do?
The video looks slightly squashed with anamorphic checked but if there's a better way to fix it than unchecking anamorphic and creating bars on the sides let me know.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 Video Codec + with 60d

    Hi all at Adobe.com forums,
I have been actively using Adobe After Effects, as well as Premiere Pro to import my video and subsequently alter the footage to my liking. My question is this...
-When you export any of the footage (from the native .mov format on the Canon 60d), I want to retain as much image quality as possible, but keep the file size to an appropriate margin where I can edit the altered footage for future use. I currently use Quicktime Animation - but the file sizes are too large. This causes hang-ups while editing, as well as leaving a mammoth footprint on my HD.
What settings do you use when rendering video? What are the optimal settings?
    cwakely

retain as much image quality as possible, but keep the file size to an appropriate margin
Those two goals are mutually exclusive.  Keeping the file size down means compression, and that reduces quality.  Keeping the quality means no or lossless compression, and that requires lots and lots of bits.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 - video noise in the exported file

    Hi everyone,
Im trying to make the transition from FCP7 to Premiere Pro CS6. I edited my first project with Premiere Pro and exported the sequence. However I noticed that the exported file had more video noise than the original clips.
The material is shot by Canon 5D Mark III and edited natively in the Premiere's timeline. Then they are exported to ProRes 422. After noticing the noise I exported the sequence as "match the sequence settings" and it created the .mpeg file. Same thing, there was noise. I then tried another other formats of that same clip and transcoded the Mark III footage to Xdcam EX 1080p before sending to premiere. Same thing, no matter what I did.
The only way i got the exported file to look the same as original file, was to convert the files before sending to ProRes 422, then edit those files in Premiere in the sequence thats settings are XDCAM EX 1080p and then to export it to ProRes422.
Do you have any thoughts for this. The noise I'm talking about is not a huge amount of noise but definitely noticeable if you look the FULL-HD material.
I really hope there is some setting I missed. Im using Mac pro 2009 and Macbook pro 2011.
    Thanks

    Hi Thomas
Try exporting by enabling "Render at maximum depth" and " Use maximum render quality" in the export dialogue window.

  • Ever since I updated to the latest version of Premiere Pro my video is taking FOREVER (over 20 hours) to export.

the video is only 20 minutes long. I've exported longer videos in less than 2 hours before so I have no idea what the issue is. The first time I tried to export this same video it started at saying remaining time was around 8 hours, went all the way down and finally finished and then said it there was an error in the export after 8 hours and the exported video wasn't there. So I decided to try the exporting process again, and last night before bed it said about 8 hours to export again. I just woke up and now it's still not finished (over 8 hours later) and NOW the remaining time is over 20 hours!!!! Does anyone else have these issues?

  • Right sequence and export settings in Premiere Pro CS6, video with still images

I am trying to run a video on my website (self hosted). This video, made with Premiere Pro CS6, consists of still images with different video effects.
This video is only 50 seconds, but when I transform this in the ogg, webm and mp4 format, I obtain file with large size and the quality is not good.
Could you please guide me to find out the right sequence and export settings in Premiere Pro CS6 to obtain a video for the best possible quality on the web?
A precise description of the settings would be awesome.

Make the export setting the resolution you want to use on the web.
Make the sequence settings accordantly to these export settings
