Premiere Pro CC won't launch

Good afternoon! I am a Creative Suite subscriber and today, tried to download, install and run PPro CC, instead of CS6, which I had been using. Five times now, I've received an error message (no code number, just that Windows is trying to troubleshoot the error--it never does!) and the app shuts down. I checked the help area and found that downloading an update would correct the problem; it didn't. Am I supposed to uninstall CS6 in order for CC to run? I sure as heck don't want do uninstall ANYTHING until I'm sure the CC version will work properly. Thanks in advance for everyone's feedback!

OK, so I won't be uninstalling CS6 any time soon!  But I'd still like to have some feedback as to why CC won't launch. I got the impression that CC had some neat new features, but if the program doesn't work, how good are they? Based on what I'm reading on the forum, CC ain't quite the "greatest thing since night baseball." Plus, I'm not unhappy with CS6. So until CC is fully de-bugged and will be more dependable--which it isn't, since it won't even launch--I'll stick with CS6.

  • Premiere Pro cc won't launch. When I try, the application window flashes, then the application exits without an error message.

I downloaded trial versions of Photoshop and Premiere Pro on my brand new MacBook Pro 15" retina 2.8GHz Intel Core i7. OS X 10.9.5
Photoshop works perfectly. When I try to open Premiere, the application icon on the dock flashes and then disappears without an error message. I have tried (several times) to sign out and in again to Creative Cloud. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere Pro. The same thing continues to happen.
Any suggestions? I'm extremely frustrated as my old version of Final Cut doesn't work on this OS, and I'm keen to try out Premiere before I commit to buying (renting) it.
    Thanks, Team.

Somekind of hardware incompatibility probably. Tech support will work through install/launch failures probelms with you for no charge if you call/chat them.
Having CS5 installed or uninstalled shoudl have nothing to do with it, both apps can run live on the same system simultaneously.

  • Premiere Pro CC won't launch after the splash screen on my new laptop

Got a new laptop from ASUS recently. It has the Geforce GTX 860M, which I know is not offically supported yet, but I've never had problems running Premiere with unsupported cards before and I've read about other people who've made it work. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling using the CC-app several times, to no success.
The problem manifests in two ways. Either the splash screen comes up and when it disappears, nothing happens. It's as if I never opened Premiere and I can try again with the same results. Either that or Premiere opens, I get a windows error message which says there has been an unexpected problem and Premiere had to close. No other explaination.
I tried updating the CUDA-drivers as suggested in another thread, and that worked ONCE, but Premiere wouldn't open again after that.
I have to make a decision on whether to keep this laptop, which in every other way is perfect and runs other Adobe-products fine (except raytracer in AE, but I can live without that until the card is supported), or keep another laptop with the 770M and which is not as powerful and "future proof".
Any good ideas out there would be much appreciated!

Does your laptop have two graphics adapters?
Go to the Windows Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound and then select Device Manager... In Device manager you click the + sign to the left of Display Adapters... and see if 2 are listed

I'm a Pro Tools user, who just did an "Archive and Install" installation of 10.5.8 over my 10.4.11 on my 2 Ghz G5, now Pro Tools won't launch.  I checked the extensions folder and sure enough, the digidesign extensions were left behind.  Can I revert back to the "Archive" of my 10.4.11 System from the "Previous Systems" folder?  If not, what's the point of creating the "archive"?

Did you select "Preserve User Settings"?
Archive and Install installation automatically moves existing system files to a folder named Previous System, then installs Mac OS X again. (See tip 3.) You cannot start up your computer using a Previous System folder, nor can you "re-bless" the Previous System folder. (See tip 1.)
You can choose to preserve your user and network settings before installing. This option automatically moves existing users, Home directories, and network settings. This also skips the Setup Assistant after installation.
Note: Because the "Preserve user and network settings" option moves, not copies, existing users, Home directories, and network settings, from the Previous Systems folder to the newly installed System, these items will not exist in the Previous Systems folder after the Archive and Install is complete.

  • Premiere Elements 11 won't launch

    G'day,
I downloaded the trial version of PRE11 a few weeks ago, but I couldn't get it to run. Upon launch I get the welcome screen with two choices, to launch the Organizer or the Video Editor, but neither of these actually start. It seems as it is trying though, as I see a scrolling line below my choice after clicking it. No error code or anything like it, it simply won't start (and I don't see any process starting either).
Nevertheless, a few days ago I bought PRE11 (Win/Mac DVD, English) and installed it. Exactly the same behaviour as with the trial, apart from one thing. When I try to lanuch the Video Editor I get the licence agreement. After agreeing, it's the same thing though, nothing happens.
I've read this thread (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4773135) and tried to see if I had any of the symptoms described, or if any of the suggested solutions worked. So far, no luck. I tried Large_Donkey's solution (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4893868#4893868) with the msvcr80.dll and msvcr100.dll files, but it didn't make any difference. Same thing with VDOsurfer's reply (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4903592#4903592) I also tried primarykeytech's suggestion (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4905283#4905283) and downloaded Dependency Walker and ran both Premiere Elements 11.exe and Premiere Elements.exe. At first, it reported that IEShims.dll and gpscv.dll was missing/couldn't be loaded, so I added these to the Premiere Elements folder. Then I got a message (still while running Premiere Elements.exe in Dependency Walker) saying that sysntfy.dll was missing, so I added this one as well to the Premiere Elements folder. After this, I still get three messages in Dependency Walker, but no further description on which files it can't find:
"Error: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in an implicitly dependent module.
Error: Modules with different CPU types were found.
Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module."
And none of these changes made any difference, I tried to launch the Video Editor and/or Organizer, but it's the same thing; won't launch, no error message. I've now resetted everything back to the way it was on installation, and tried to continue finding any solution.
Some specs, even if maybe not all of these are relevant. If any other specs are needed, just inform me.

Well, I tried the blacklist approach by adding a "blacklist.txt" file to the VST plugins folders I have, but to no avail. I also read the last post you made in the "Failure of Premiere to Launch - One Possibility VST's" thread, with the answers from Adobe Engineering. As that post was made almost 2 years ago, I somehow think this wouldn't be an issue in PrE 11 anymore?
Anyway, while trying to launch Premiere Elements.exe ~200 times the last 24h, I've not noticed anything strange in Event Viewer, no errors or warnings connected to the launch of PrE (or, for that matter, no errors or warnings at all during the time I try to launch the program). One thing I did notice, though, is that the process Premiere Elements 11.exe actually starts (I chose not to display the welcome screen every time, but to launch the Video Editor right away) but then quickly terminates. Utually it manage to get between 15-20MB of memory before it crashes and terminate the process, only takes 1 or 2 seconds from launch to termination.
Slowly losing my hope to actually discover the cause, as I'm shooting in the dark evey time (not getting any error messages or hints on what actually fails). Really needed to use PrE this week, maybe have to find some free alternative on the interwebs.
    Regards Henrik
Edit: Searching deeper on the Adobe forums regarding VST scanning issues with PrPro/E, and it baffles me how long this error seems to have been going on, even if it's not 100% certain that is the error in my case.
Edit2: Once again a shot in the dark, but I'm thinking my troubles may be due to multiple hard drives? As things are scattered over 3 discs (OS on one, programs on the second one and personal data on the third one) this might cause some path/reference issues? I was thinking this since Depencency Walker gives me the following error messages:
"Error: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in an implicitly dependent module.
Error: Modules with different CPU types were found.
Warning: At least one delay-load dependency module was not found.
Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module."
And it also states that it can't find IESHIMS.DLL and GPSVC.DLL (a road I already have been down earlier). This got me thinking PrE can't find the correct files from where it is installed (E:\Program Files\Adobe\Premiere Elements 11). On the other hand, I'm getting the exact same error messages on Photoshop CS5 (which runs fine), and the same two dll files seems to be missing. Even tried running a few other programs that work, such as games, though Depencency Walker, and even they seems to miss these dll files.

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes on Launch

I just installed (and reinstalled) Premiere Pro CC. When I try to launch, I get to "Loading ImporterQuickTime.prm" and it crashes.
I'm running on a Win 7 Professional SP-1, with an Intel i7 processor and an Nvidia GTX 660 (Driver version: 320.49). The Intel onboard graphics have been disabled in the BIOS. I have 8GB RAM.
To try to fix the problem I have tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere Pro and Quicktime.
Uninstalling QT and installing older versions
I installed the newest Nvidia driver.
Turning on the Intel driver, updating it, and turning off the Nvidia driver in the BIOS.
    Running PP as administrator
Removing the plug-in causing the problem. This led to discovering that the ExportQuickTimeHost.prm and the PlayerMediaCore.prm plug-ins also cause a crash.
Resetting the compatibility of PP to Vista and Win 7 (hoped to trick it)
    Deleting the preferences
Signing out of the CC and signing back in by launching Premiere
    Nothing has worked.
This is what the Event Viewer kicks at me:

After migration to a new Mac Pro Dreamweaver CS6 won't launch. It says it is missing menus.xml file. How do I resolve this?

    Hi rustyg12,
    Go to Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CS6/Configuration/Menus/menus.bak
You'll see a menus.xml there - it is a backup copy of the actual menus.xml file that DW uses.
Copy it from that folder, paste it 1 level above (in Menus folder).
Fire up DW. See if it works.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 won't boot - keeps crashing when trying to load VST plug-ins

This problem has been a thorn in my side for ages - after a recent software update to some of my VST plug-ins, Premiere Pro will no longer boot.  I have to re-name the VSTPlugins folder to a different name.  It used to be that it would scan the VSTPlugins folder, crash a bunch of times, then eventually boot up because it figured out that it should ignore that folder.  It no longer does this, so I have to manually rename the VSTPlugins folder every time I run premiere.
Obviously, this is a hassle.  And is extremely easy to fix from a programming point of view: stop scanning my VSTPlugins folder!!!!!
Is there a workaround for this, or a way to tell Premiere to stop scanning that folder for plug-ins?
    Thanks,
    rgames

Hi Bill - as I mentioned in my first post, the behavior you describe is what used to happen: keep launching PPro until it finally boots (pretty lame solution, by the way).
However, as I also mentioned, that no longer works.  PPro keeps crashing on the same two or three .DLL's and they never get "blacklisted" because it tries again on the next boot.  These .dll's were recently updated, so I'm guessing that's why it's an issue now.  I was able to boot-crash-boot-crash ... boot-crash-boot before, but not since the .dll's were updated.
The coding solution is so simple I can't believe it's never been implemented: give the option to stop scanning the VSTPlugins folder!  Seriously, this is probably 2 minutes of coding for someone who knows where to look in the code.
Anybody have a fix for this problem?
    Thanks,
    rgames

  • Premiere Pro CS6 won't open...

I have the Adobe Creative Cloud, and I installed Premiere Pro CS6 Family. I was able to open it once, but now that I have tried launching it recently, it comes up with an error message saying "This application has failed to start because MSVCR100.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem". What exactly does that mean?

It means that the Microsoft Visual C++ Resource library got corrupted. Reinstalling can help, because that is the first step of the installlation process. The alternative is to go to the Microsoft site and download the latest C++ libraries and install them manually.

  • Premiere Pro CC crash on launch, crash opening project, update issues

    Hi,
    iMac 2011 quad i7 3.4 GHz, 20GB RAM, MacOS 10.9.2 and 10.7.5, Premiere CC 7.0.0 & 7.2.1
I've been having a crazy time with Premiere CC. I started an Africa documentary 2 weeks ago, which forced me to upgrade to CC (on MacOS 10.9.2). Other than some issues with the Creative Cloud installer app (which seems like a great idea but never seems to work as it should, especially with updates), I was happily working away for about 10 days.
During that time I had to install Premiere CS6 again to open another project -- and continued happily working.
Then I needed to export some markers... and discovered that the Creative Cloud app wasn't reporting any updates beyond 7.0.0, and I needed 7.2.1 to export markers. That's when my problems started.
I tried to update to 7.2.1 with the Creative Cloud app -- it wouldn't see the update.
I tried to download the 7.2 and 7.2.1 patches from Adobe's site directly -- neither of these would install, because they said I didn't have the right software (or something like that -- didn't write down the error).
Finally I used the Adobe Cleaner tool to uninstall and clean all Adobe apps off my system. Then I was able to use the CC app to download 7.0.0, and my patches to update to 7.2.1.
I tried to open my project... Premiere crashed as it opened the project (as it was loading the clips).
I uninstalled all 3rd party effects, checking to ensure nothing was in the MediaCore folder. I deleted all caches and previews. I checked the permissions of the Adobe preferences folder, and trashed the Premiere preferences. I rebuilt permissions.
Now, not only could I not open the project, but Premiere itself would not launch -- it would freeze to the point of forcing a reboot.
Cleaned Adobe apps again, went online with Adobe tech support for a full hour. The main thing they did was remove a CUDA extension, but after reinstalling, the problem persisted... at first it crashed while loading the project, and then crashed in the launch itself.
Luckily, I had a backup of MacOS 10.7.5, which I had been using before starting this documentary project. I went back to that backup, installed Premiere 7.2.1... and now Premiere launches properly but still crashes about halfway through loading my project.
I can load the project if the clips are offline (temporarily renaming the footage folder), so it seems that somewhere along this zany process, one or more clips got corrupted.
With 15,000 clips of different formats in this project, finding which clip(s) is corrupted is like finding a needle in a haystack. For now, I am importing my sequences into a new project, and just importing the clips I need to finish my edit at hand. Then I will likely have to build a new project from scratch -- a long process, since Premiere can't import nests of subfolders like After Effects and Final Cut Pro can, and that's how the footage from this project has been organized.
Arg! At this point I have a workaround (at least in MacOS 10.7.5), so I'm not really asking anything, but if anyone has light to shed I'm all ears.
P.S. I think when I installed CS6 after installing CC, it confused the CC app. I don't think that caused my Premiere issues, but I think it may have contributed to the issues installing updates, and the CC app getting confused.

    Hello GrayJones,
This does seem like some pretty unusual behaviour! And I can only imagine the frustration it must be causing (believe me, I've been there!)
I've seen a lot of crash issues that are related to computer's graphic cards. You may want to try updating your graphics card's driver before proceeding forward. Also, there are a very small number of graphics cards that just don't work well with Premiere. You can also check the settings of your Mercury Playback Engine GPU. This can impact the performance of your software, especially depending on your graphics card. I may have missed it above, but didn't see anything related to Graphics cards in what you tried.
If you update your graphics card's drivers, and then update your version of Premiere Pro, it may solve the crashing on launch issue that you were having. Moving forward with fully updated PP software would be my first course of action, if it's possible.
Although I see that you have tried it alreay, you might want to reset your preferences (hold Cmd and Shift on the Mac while opening the program until you hit the splash screen) and resetting your PP cache (Premiere Pro - Preferences - Media - Click on "Clean Media Cache Database"
Without seeing the errors that caused your updates to not install originally I can't really offer suggestions regarding that. It could be a system conflict somewhere on your computer, but there are dozens of possibilities of what could be causing, especially if you have other plugins, older versions of Adobe or other video softwares, that kind of thing...
    Moving forward from there:
How are you working? Are your images stored on an external hard drive or locally? How are you connecting the hard drive to your machine? Are you tossing all of the clips with different time code into one sequence and working from there, or editing on separate sequences?
As for your project: Do you have the ability to test it on a different machine? You can try doing a project manager (File-Project Manager) and putting your entire managed project onto a different machine to see the behaviour, that way you can figure out if the issues are related to the project itself, or to your install of Premiere Pro on your machine. IF the project works fine on another system, then clearly the issue is related to your software/hardware configuration, if you have the same issues with the project on every machine, then it might be something different. Can you test other projects on your current set-up? Is this the only project that is affected?
If you have one or several corrupted files I know it can be painstaking to try to locate where the damage is at, generally it's a process of elimination, make a sequence with files from one camera and see what happens, if it glitches, try another camera until you can see if it's a general issue to all of your cameras or specific to some. Narrow it down from there, if it's multiple cameras, then the error (again) is software/hardware or transfer related or occurs in your transfer/storage process, or may be related to your uninstalls/re-installs with CC and CS6 (although I don't think I've ever seen that!)
If it's only clips from one camera (you mention the Canon XF100 has problems) maybe something affected your camera. I once saw standing too close to a radar-dish corrupt 1/4 of the clips from a BBC videographer's camera. I have no explanation why... but it can happen, so if only one camera is affected you should consider the possibility.
I'll try to assist with this as much as I can! But remember that the forums are not here for Adobe personnel to provide support to clients, but as a community for Adobe-philes to share and help. A lot of Adobe staff who are posting on here are generally doing it because they've got a bit of free time and want to help out. You should consider contacting support again if you can't resolve the problem and getting them to connect you to a video specific team.
    Cheers!

  • My premiere pro cc won't open

    Hello,
I have the creative cloud suite and am trying to open premiere pro but it won't open.  I've used it in the past on this same computer.  What gives?

    Hi Alex,
I'll Show you that there are some sources of error:
    1. Maybe you have to activate/deactivate, so please have a look there:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html
2, Sometimes, we know in the meantime, the "opm.db file" is the culprit. In this case you should delete it.
    3. Did you already try "uninstalling and re-installing"? Be careful with (de)installing aso. by (de)installing by your own resources. As much as I regret it and as strange as it may seem I fear it's a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.
Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)
I quote: ... helps resolve installation problems for Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Creative Suite (CS3-CS6) applications. The tool removes installation records for prerelease installations of Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications. It does not affect existing installations of previous versions of Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications.
