Premiere Pro crashes when sending files to media encoder

Premiere Pro CC keeps crashing when sending files to Media Encoder. This is a new problem. I cleaned the cache, typed purge into terminal, checked the sharing in the preferences library and verified/repaired disk permissions. What else can I try? Help, I have urgent deadlines this week!

I am using the most updated version of PPro CC with OS 10.8.5. It seems to have issues with certain sequences and not others.  It also may be the files themselves.  They play fine in the program viewer and I have sent them to Media Encoder before, but if I create a new sequence with the same settings and copy the files into it, the same thing happens. I have a lot of 29.97 720x480 (1.21 pixels) and 1440x1080 (PAR 1.333) footage to edit together and create dvds out of (not my idea - it's a job) and I am in the middle of trying various ways of encoding to make it as clear as possible.
Currently I am using 1440x1080i HD anamorphic sequence settings encoding into 1440x1080 p HD anamorphic with frame blending, maximum render quality, Target bit rate of 30 VBR 2 pass. Then combining those files with other sequences into a longer 1440x1080 p HD anamorphic sequence and encoding MPEG 2-DVD NTSC widescreen progressive 100% quality, VBR 2 pass and the output is much better. This has been working, and today suddenly it stopped and started crashing. Any ideas?

  • Premiere Pro CC not queuing exports into Media Encoder CC

I try to make this simple...
standard export from PP CC to ME CC
File -> export -> media, then hit queue.
Media encoder opens and just sits there. Left it for hours to see if anything would ever happen, and nothing ever did.
I've restarted the programs and machine dozens of times and that does nothing.
I can still export from PP CC.
I have no CS6 products left on my box.
I also tried to open the project from Media Encoder and load the sequence that way with no luck.
    Thanks for the help!

I had this exact same problem, and I figured out the solution in my case.  I know the original problem report is ancient, but there are recent replies, so I am adding my solution here.  I spent untold hours figuring this out, so hopefully this will save someone else some time.
There can be other causes to this problem, I'm sure.  I'm just telling you about what fixed this problem for me.
Just to clarify, here is the symptom: Running Windows 8.1.  Standard export from Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 to Media Encoder CC 2014.2, using File -> Export -> click Queue.  Media Encoder opens and just sits there.  Premiere Pro is hung and has to be forcibly terminated.
I spent countless hours on this.  I thought I had messed up my computer's configuration somehow, so (believe it or not) I re-installed Windows on a freshly formatted hard disk, re-installed Creative Suite, same problem.  (I can't believe I wasted all that time; I feel like a dummy.)
I finally narrowed it down to a very simple test case with a very tiny one-clip sequence that is less than one second long.  Same problem.
It turned out to be a problem in the Premiere Pro project file itself.  I suspect that a small file corruption somehow snuck into the project file, that was completely invisible.  In that clip in my project, if I removed the "Vocal Enhancer" effect, the problem with exporting to Media Encoder went away.  If I then re-added the very same "Vocal Enhancer" effect, the problem was still gone.  It must be some small corruption in the ".prproj" file that went away when I removed the "Vocal Enhancer" effect and re-added it again.
NOTE: I DON'T think that there is some kind of bug with the "Vocal Enhancer" effect.  I don't think this problem has anything to do with "Vocal Enhancer" per se.  It is just some kind of small generic corruption in the project file.  When Premiere Pro tries to export that sequence to Media Encoder, the problem occurs.  It was just a coincidence in my case that removing and re-adding the "Vocal Enhancer" effect made the problem go away.
BOTTOM LINE: If you find that you have this bug where Premiere Pro hangs when exporting to the Media Encoder queue, try the following: Create a brand new project with a single clip in it, and export it to the Media Encoder queue.  If that works, you know that it is not a problem with Premiere Pro in general; it's a problem in your specific project file.  Once you've made this determination, make a copy of your original project file, and remove clips from the project until the problem goes away.  Keep narrowing it down until you find the clip(s) that are the issue.  Then, try removing and re-adding any effects on those clips, or even removing and re-adding the clips themselves, to fix the problem.  Eventually, by removing and re-adding a specific effect or clip to your project, the problem will vanish (hopefully).  It's just a matter of narrowing down which half of your project the problem occurs in, then which half of that half, etc., until you have it narrowed down to one clip or group of clips that need to be removed and re-added.
Having said all this, it is a bug that ideally should be fixed so someone else doesn't spend untold hours trying to figure out the problem.  To that end, I create a tiny ZIP file that just has project file and the single media clip needed to reproduce the problem, along with a small description "READ ME.txt" file that explains the very simple steps to reproduce the problem.  I have submitted this as a bug report to Adobe using their official online bug report form at www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform along with a link to the ZIP file so they can download and reproduce the problem.
If anyone else is curious about reproducing this same bug, you can also download the small ZIP file if you want to.  I guarantee it doesn't have any viruses or anything - it's just two small files to reproduce the problem.  To download the ZIP file containing that project file, media file, and "READ ME.txt" file, you can get it at www.forgaard.com/files/PremiereProBug.zip.
I hope this saves someone some time.  This one sucked up a zillion hours of me chasing apparitions.
I was having a problem with exporting a sequence to AME.  PPro would freeze and I would have to force the program to close.  This was on a project where I was just running out a bunch of interview clips for the director to look at.  One of them had a audio effect (DeHummer) on it, and it was the one that was giving me troubles.  I selected the audio and right clicked then "Render and Replace" then it would export to AME with no issue.  Thank you for your well written response to this thread.  While it may not have fixed the OP's issue, it did help with mine....
    Thanks,
    Phil

I have a Time-lapse sequence which I have just built and saved the project of, but my cursor has stopped on the time-lapse sequence. Premiere Pro does crashes when I open my project because the cursor is stuck on the time-lapse sequence.
My project was saved in Premiere Pro with the cursor stuck on my new time-lapse sequence. Now, Premiere Pro crashes when I try to open the project....Please help URGENTLY?

    >It may be a corrupt font, but I have thousands installed. Is there any way to test for that?
Reply #8 was specifically to address this question.
    >I basically wanted to know if this is a 3.2.0 issue or not.
That's not what you asked. Perhaps asking a specific question will get you closer to a specific answer?
The titler does not crash for me at any stage of the Adobe updates for Premiere Pro, including 3.2.

  • Premiere Pro crashes when writing marker notes

I'm on the trial version of Premiere Pro and when I place a marker on a clip in the source window, then write a note for it in the marker tab of the browser window, it quits repeatedly.  What's up with this?  I thought I could use markers in this way.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum, Sharon.
What exactly do you mean by "the marker tab of the browser window"? Are you referring to the Markers panel in Premiere Pro? What happens if you double-click the marker icon, which opensthe Marker dialog, and type there?
What kind of content? Please check whether the files are write-protected, locked, etc., and whether you have the necessary user privileges to modify the files. (This could be important because clip markers are written into the files on disk, though I've never heard of PPro crashing on account of files being locked or something in that vein.)
Do you get an error message or a crash log?
    Exactly which version of PPRO?
    What operating system?

  • Premiere Pro CC - error on export through media encoder.

    Hi,
I recently upgraded to Premiere pro CC.  Everytime I try to export through media encoder the exports errors right at the end of the render.
It keeps prompting . Error - Disk Full.  Thng is that I have 339 gig Available on the destination drive.
    - I Cleared the disk cash.
    - all the footage is Canon 5d Mk3 footage 1920x1080
    - I've tried rendering H264 and mpeg2 footage .... It all errors at 99% stage
    screen shot....
    - adobe ... please help,
    Duncan.

OK, So to be more specific it's hanging when I send it to Media Encoder Queue. I was just able to just do a direct export.
I found the article on permissions and that was not the issue.
I've made no changes to hardware and have done three projects with the same codecs, type footage, duration (1 hour range) with no problems.

The same way you re-install your other software.

  • Premiere Pro CRASH when using .M2TS files

I import the files and put them on the timeline. Everything gets very laggy at this point even though my CPU and RAM aren't sky high. Then it crashes when I'm almost finished rendering. Happens every time with .M2TS files.

I had a similar issue. I'm using Cineform and when I go to export movie, I select 'Cineform M2T' setting. It crashed during the last few seconds of export. However, the 16 min clip seemed to be okay. I successfully exported it back to tape using HD link, which was my intended purpose.

  • Premiere CC 2014 hangs when sending sequences to Media Encoder CC 2014

Whenever I try to send a sequence from Premiere Pro CC 2014 to Media Encoder CC 2014, Premiere immediately freezes and becomes unresponsive. AME seems to still be running just fine.
I've tried the following troubleshooting steps:
    – Clearing the media cache.
    – Clearing and moving the scratch disks.
    – Deleting all render previews and re-building them.
    – Completely re-installing all of Adobe's Creative Cloud suite.
    – Importing the at-question PPCC14 project file into a fresh PPCC14 project and importing only the sequence I need to export.
    – Dragging and dropping the at-question Premiere sequence into AME.
    – Opening only AME and trying to drag the entire Premiere project file from Finder.app into AME's render queue. (This happens to work, as a matter of fact, however something strange happens once the sequence is in the AME queue. It pops up just fine, I can change the render settings and file export location, but when I click the green play button at the top right, nothing happens. AME doesn't hang or freeze up or anything, it's just that nothing happens. No prep, no nothing – very strange.)
    – Uninstalling CUDA completely and tried using only OpenCL and software-only rendering engines.
    – Opening the same at-question project on an entirely different computer.
    – Trying to export from PPCC14 itself.
    – Tried opening up an entirely different PPCC14 project and exporting – worked perfectly. So it must be something with this specific project file.
I eventually got it working (honestly, I'm not even sure what I did – at that point it felt like I was in a zombie state after four hours of troubleshooting and was just repeating troubleshooting steps because I was trying to hit a deadline with this export.) I was able to export it directly from PPCC14 – I was never able to get it to work with AMECC14, however.
Other miscellaneous noteworthy things: This project I'm trying to export is massive – it's a feature documentary that's about 2 hours in length. It's very complex in its edits, has a mixture of ProRes 422 files and .MTS files, and the entire project is reading media from three separate USB 3.0 hard drives. I know that's not the ideal workflow, but it's been doing just fine until this last time I tried to render out the latest export for our client.
Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

I've tried importing into a new blank project, but that did not seem to work. I then tried selecting the sequence in the bin and exporting that as a "Simplified Project" via the File menu. That still does not work when sending the sequence to AMECC14, but it does work when I render straight from PPCC14.
I have also found that as long as I give it enough time to load up and all that, I seem to be able to export just fine from PPCC14 itself – I'm still getting the freezing/hanging when trying to send to AMECC14 however.
Thanks for the help so far Cgunningham – I really appreciate it. I'll keep following up here if I find anything else new out.

  • Premiere pro crashes when opening project

Premiere pro project crashes when opening. I have an imac running OS 10.7.3 (8GB Ram, AMD Radeon HD 6970 2048mb) and have Premiere Pro 5.5.2. I have had 2 projects that I have worked on for hours and saved numerous times and then when I closed pp and tried to reopen the file the screen goes white and then crashes. Please help.

    Ann, THANKS for replying!
If I open a brand new project, which I could do before, and then IMPORT a previous project, it works and I can edit and export the project.  However, it did crash upon trying to save it and I still can not just open a previously created project.  When I do I get an error message that Says: "Premiere has encountered an error and needs to close down.  We will attempt to save your project."
Do you or anyone else have any ideas?

  • Adobe Premiere Pro crashing when doing nearly anything?

Usually, the program crashes when I import a file. If it doesn't crash by then, it will crash when I move a file to the timeline or create a new sequence with the file. I have reinstalled the program four times, and the errors persist. I've had the creative cloud on my computer for about a month, and I've always had this problem. Never had time to deal with it until now. I'm running a Windows 7 64 bit desktop. Can anyone help me fix this?
