Premiere Pro crashes whenever I enable my onboard microphone for recording voiceover

I wanted to record a voiceover to an edited piece - it's not important the quality of my voiceover, so I planned to record using the onboard microphone on my Macbook Pro (OS10.6.6, 2.66 GHz Interl Core i7, 8GB RAM).
If I go into Preferences > Audio Hardware and select Built-In Input it crashes Premiere Pro.  I've submitted a crash report - but wonder if anyone has encountered anything similar or might know what I might do to avoid this or what might be causing the problem.  I know that I have recorded voiceover before using the onboard microphone so this seems strange.  (I've checked and the same problem occurs in After Effects - and it happens anytime I select one of the options that includes my onboard input.  I am able to use my built-in microphone with other applications such as quicktime and camtasia, and no problems).

Has anyone encountered this problem or have any ideas how to fix it?  I've seen several other people complain about the same or similar issues on other forums but can't find any solutions.  I ended up needing to export my video from Premiere Pro and then add the voiceover in iMovie, and I really would have preferred to remain in PP.  I'm confident it's not a hardware issue, so wonder whether anyone has any ideas about how to fix it...?

  • Premiere Pro crashes whenever I try to do anything whether in a new project or one already created. Any troubleshooting ideas?

I have already tried uninstalling and re-installing.

Windows 7 Enterprise on a PC Dell 64-bit. It's Premiere Pro Creative Cloud and it is up to date. When I first installed Premiere Pro CC months ago, I had this same issue - couldn't do anything, the program would crash immediately. I was on the phone with Adobe IT for 6 hours before it started working. No clue what the guy did to make it work. He did say sometimes the program will continue to run in the background so I should go to Processes under the Task Manager and if I see it running to close it. That fixed the problem for awhile. Then I didn't use the program again for a couple months. Now when I try to use it, it crashes, same problem as originally, only this time, it is not running in the background.
Any ideas to help me avoid a 6 hour trouble-shooting session would be great. Thanks!

    Hi justinB,
    Welcome to the Forums.
Please go to the location of the mentioned aticfx.dll and move it to your desktop. This file might be a result of bad installation of Graphics Drivers. Please launch the Premier Pro and check if it works.

That's not what you asked. Perhaps asking a specific question will get you closer to a specific answer?
The titler does not crash for me at any stage of the Adobe updates for Premiere Pro, including 3.2.

Check for corrupted or poorly-constructed fonts installed on your system.  A free font manager like the ones listed here:
    Best Free Font Manager
can help with that.  I use FontFrenzy.  Start troubleshooting by using your font manager to make a backup of your current font installation, then pick half of the fonts and delete them.  Go into the Adobe apps and see if you still get the error.  If not, then you know the problem font is in the half you deleted.  Restore them and delete half again from just that group.  And so on until you find the bad font(s).

  • Premiere Pro crash on launch

Premiere Pro crash on launch (dvaui.dll fault) for one user, but not on random account created on same machine.
    How do fix?

Fonts can cause issues. First, corrupt fonts can cause launch hangs and Titler crashes. Next, there are some fonts that are not corrupt, but just do not work well with Adobe products. One such font is from SunMicro Systems, and installs with OpenOffice - Deja Vu. There are probably many, many more. Some fonts, like Isabelle and Isabella (by some different foundries too), will not cause issues, but just not display properly in many Adobe apps.
Fonts - you can't live without them, and sometimes it's tough to live with 'em, especially some.
Thanks for reporting and good luck,
    Hunt
PS - this ARTICLE covers some issues with Titler (can also apply to launch), but is highly PC-centric.

  • Premiere Pro crashes often

I have just installed Premiere Pro CS4 as part of the Master Suite installation. I am not familiar with Premiere Pro.
My problem is that the app crashes often.
Whenever I try to open a new AVCHD project - crashes
If I use the AVI PAL presets Premiere Pro opens, but will crash if I try the following:
    Whenever I try to play a video using the play button in the project frame;
Whenever I try to create a new sequence.
I have tried dragging a video to the timeline panel but haven't been able to do so.
My system detail is as follows
Briefly describe your hardware, software, OS and versions in use, including disk setup, video card and driver versions, etc.
    Intel Quad core 2.4Ghz
    4Gb RAM
Nvidia 9800 GT graphics card with 512Mb memory

    1 @ 250 Gb internal SATA HDD
    2 @ 1 Tb external HDD

AVCHD - app crashes before anything can be imported
    Others - MPEG 2, MPEG4
(Describe as accurately as possible what you did, what steps you took, what happened at what moment and what you did to try to resolve it.)
    1. Started app, selected AVCHD 1440*1080i 25 (50i) option, then Prem Pro opened for a split second then crashed
    2. Started Prem Pro OK using PAL widescreen project options. Imported various vid files (MPEG2, MPEG 4, AVI) and tried to play them using the play button in the project screen. Prem Pro crashed every time. I don't believe this is a codec issue.
The various DXDIAG, process explorer, Speedfan etc files are @

In an attempt to fix this problem, I have reinstalled the Master Suite 3 times.
    Would appreciate any advice.

The freshly installed partition with the new XP Pro installation on it was installed after your first reply to my original post. It's brand new.
I have also removed all the Pinnacle products from anywhere on the PC.
The PAL project I refer to is DV PAL widescreen, but the crash condition occurs also when I try other formats. The only difference is that AVCHD projects crash immediately PP opens.
On those occasions when I've been able to get to the file import stage I've imported many different types of files:
    MPEG2
    MPEG4
    AVI
The AVI's have been shot by:
    - 1991 era Panasonic tape cam
    - 1999 Sony tape cam
The MPEG2's, 4's and some of the AVI's have been sourced from a number of other sources. Some of the MPEGs came from my Sony SR8 and SR10 cameras.
A number of different codecs. I still don't think this is a codec issue.
The only time I was able to get any of them onto the timeline was when I started in safe mode. That's when I got the 148:3 error described above. That's apparently a licencing error??
Thanks for your help so far.
