Premiere Pro CS3 shutting down

Sorry to ask such a simple question, but I am new to Premiere Pro CS3.  Basically, whenever I start it up, I get to the point of importing some video (a small file), and then it seems like 3 out of 4 times when I try to do anything with the program after the import is complete, it simply shuts down and disappears with no warnings or errors.  I know from experience with Vegas Pro that video editors can be picky and unstable, but this is ridiculous.
Short of "re installing the program", are there any words of advice of things to check concerning the program (or me) to help keep it running longer than 60 seconds?  It is running on a Win XP32 machine with no other programs running at the same time.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Excellent article!
SYSTEM:
Let's start with the hardware.  This is a built from scratch PC about 2 -3 years old that I put together for using Vegas Pro and other high end Autodesk programs.  It is a Tyan server motherboard with two AMD Opteron quad core micros (8 cores total) running at a nominal 2.3 Ghz.  Total ram is 8 G of DDR2.  The video card is an ATI FireGL V5200 with 512M of video ram, driving two monitors.  The operating system is Windows XP 32.  It is a dual boot machine, capable of booting into either XP32 or XP x64.  The OS are on a 320G SATA2 hard drive.  The video files are on a striped RAID consisting of two 320G SATA2 hard drives.
Installed software includes everything from Master Collection CS3, Microsoft Office 2007, and a few other odds and ends.  The antivirus is Kaspersky 2009.
ASSETS:
The imported video clip is 80M AVI from a camcorder that plays fine in either Vegas or Windows Media Player.
WORKFLOW:
Have not got that far yet!
Let's start with the simple questions first:  When I get to the initial splash screen "Welcome to Adobe Premiere Pro", pressing either the "Exit" button or the red button with the X in the upper right corner of the splash screen causes the program to shut down.  Is that to be expected?
Oh, and to the best of my experience, this is the only software from the Master Collection CS3 suite that is having this problem.

Head to the Adobe site's 'knowledgebase', type optimise CS3 for (Windows XP, if that's what your using) and following the instructions there, house clean. I find doing this helps clean out those nasty messages

Hi guys; I thought I would share my experience and how I managed to fix this problem. It might help someone.
In my case I kept receiving this message; eventually after re-launching Premiere, I actually paid close attention to the "software loading" information and saw that it got stuck on my installed "Colorista ii" which is a colour grading software.
Now the red bulb came on my head ping!
I recently just upgraded my Mac to the OS X Yosemite & that affected pretty much any non-updated application, which in my case was that and many more of the Red Giant Pacakge; so I searched for the upgrade via Red giant Link, and low and behold I found it and did so. Immediately everything loaded up perfectly fine.. and now can't even do the work, cos I'm so exhausted from an 'almost heartattack'; so going to sleep and commence later in the day I guess..
Now, you might probably want to check if any application on your system needs upgrading to whatever is the operating system on your Mac or PC at this very time. It might help.
    Always back-up.
    I hope I helped someone :-)

There is an error that says when I am open my project: 'Sorry a serious error has occured that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project'. What is the solution? (mac)

This happens to me all the time too. When I attempt to reopen, it makes a "copy of" my project. This is frustrating and happiness often.

  • "A Serious Error Has Occurred That Requires Adobe Premiere Pro to Shut Down"

"A Serious Error Has Occurred That Requires Adobe Premiere Pro to Shut Down" Pops up every time I export a video.. I have 2 TB of space where i'm exporting so thats not the issue... I'm using RED Giant Pluraleyes to match multiple cameras but other then that, there are no other 3rd party plug ins being used...
This is very frustrating. I'm using updated CC and have tried shutting down the computer (iMac) and tried exporting to different locations on and off my HDD.
What am I supposed to do?

So, opening a new project works?

It's terrible that this is happening on the trial version as it's making me want to go straight back to FCP! Also - I've tried switching external hard drive and that also doesn't work.
    Thank you!

Every time I place a video into the sequence timeline, this error message pops up, "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project." and then Premiere crashes.
I tried uninstalling all products and then reinstalling them, and the problem is still there.
What can I do to fix this?

    @RoninEdits, Thanks for the response.
But yeah, I've tried both the Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration AND Software Only and its the same issue with both.

I just purchased Film Convert Bundle and already have made activation
Tried it in Premiere Pro CC, and it doesn't work!
    A have tried three times..
    - new project
    - imported my video
    - apply FilmConvert to my video.....and nothing! I even didn't see FilmConvert window. Premiere Pro just shut down with error:
    'Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014
Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project.'
Tried it in After effects CC, and it also doesn't work!
After effects hangs after applying FilmConvert
Please help me solve this problems! I like your product very much!
But It work in Photoshop CC!
    I have:
    MacBook Pro,  Early 2013
    2,4 ГГц Intel Core i7
    8 gb 1600  DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 МБ
    OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
    43 GB available now
What can be a problem, and how to solve it, HELP please!

For me the OpenCL Mercury Render engine is less stable and performs worse than the CUDA equivalent on NVIDIA cards. As you say you are using an NVIDIA card, see if there is a CUDA option for Filmconvert or use software rendering on the CPU as you have found.

  • Premiere Pro keeps shutting down and I can't get rid of video clip from timeline

Lately, Premiere Pro keeps bringing up a message when I'm working on my project that says "serious error, Adobe Premier Pro needs to shut down". It's happened four times now. I've tried restarting the computer, uninstalling some programs I wasn't using, and even running updates that were needed. Still no luck. Also, in between shutdowns, there's a clip on my timeline that I imported from YouTube, and I can't get rid of it when I click "Cut" or "Clear". Any idea on why these things are happening?

what do i do when this occurs?

Thank you Last House.  I will, in keeping with my M.O. make the purchase.  Whatever it takes in my attempt to make this program work. (I have had all good with WD)
IdrtvEditor,  spent an afternoon with the computer take-over as well and they didn't know what was wrong.  One thing I found is that I can't trust that a capture has actually completed.  I looked all through my files, knowing that I had captured this particular segment of the reception. Started to freak out and then realized It had.  The first one minute and a half of it.  The same thing happened while adobe support was in the computer.  He had no idea, and simply suggested that I only capture small portions of film at a time.  Easy to say if your not capturing real time wedding ceremony footage and syncing 3 angles.
Just now, I came in and opened a project, and a totally new warning I haven't seen before came on the screen. /Users/(path of project name etc.)  Audio Filter missing: Internal Volume Mono.    This is really getting scary.

  • Error in Premiere Pro CS3.

Whenever I had a problem and i posted it here, i always got helped by you guys, so first of all, i want to thank those who helped me out there, and wanted you to know that i really appreciate that help.
Here is probably my last issue with Premiere Pro CS3.
    The problem:
From time to time, i get an error. A message saying: " sorry a serious error has occurred that requires adobe premiere pro to shut down"
It saves the current project, and when i start premiere over, it loads it from there. It usually happens when:
I ' activate ' an effect, example: I change the opacity to 0 ( typing it with the keyboard as a percentage ) and press enter. Right when i press enter, it pops up. ( it happens with any kind of effect, just from time to time, when i ' activate ' it)
When i minimize an audio file by dragging it to the left or the right, it happens when i release the right mouse button. These are just examples. The issue is that when i make a change, this error repeats.
I'd love to hear what the issue may be.
    Appreciate any kind of help.

Can you give us the specs. of one of the typical Projects, and their Assets, where you see this happening?
Next, can you give us the specs. of your computer, in as much detail, as is possible?
Can you also list the programs/processes, that load at boot up? A screen-cap, or report from Process Explorer will tell us a lot.
Also, before beginning an editing session, you might want to look into this ARTICLE. If you have Win7, be sure to look down-thread for the link to Black Viper's Web site for tuning that OS.
This ARTICLE might be useful for telling you what is happening with your system and your programs, when you get the error and crash.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere Pro CS3 Crashed, and now will no longer start back up again..

I was working on a project today using Cs3, I've had it since spring and it always worked fine until tonight when i was editing a project.. In the middle of my editing the program unexpectedly froze than crashed...
I then tried to restart it and i got this message which popped up in 4 windows..
" Sorry a serious error has occurred that required adobe premiere pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project" i then hit ok and it exited completely, i tried to open it again, same thing..
so then i restarted my computer and i got a different message that said something like i wasn't aloud to use the program anymore and had to reinstall it or cal adobe tech support... so i put the CD in and re-installed it and got the same message when opening the program up again "serious error messages" I then went to the CS3 updates to update it back to version 3.2.0. But still continue to get the error message.
so something must have happened during my edit that caused it to stop working, but i have no idea what it could be. I even tried to do a System restore..which also got a error message....thanks vista...
anyways..i can use some help, thanks
    :edit:
i tried to reinstall Premiere Pro 1.5 since Cs3 was an upgrade.. I reinstalled it then reinstalled Cs3 again, and i still get the "serious error Message" so that didn't work...

Ok i looked at the Troubleshooting site Eddie gave me, and tried to answer the questions as best i could.
Never used any Adobe Beta software.
I freed up a lot of space off of my hard drive, i only had like 5GB-10GB left, but it still worked when having such low space
I did a disk clean up as well as disk defragment, and moved a lot of high GB files over to my second hard drive. i have over 27GB of free storage left now, its a 150GB hard driver. should i have more?
I Tried holding down the Shift button, but didn't help
I tried to open up Encore Cs3 which came with Premiere, i barely ever used this one, but its funny how this wont work either. I think i used it once before and it worked. But it old how none of my Cs3 Programs. never installed On location.
also this isn't a pirated copy or anything, i bought it as an Upgrade from Amazon back in the spring. Upgrading from Premiere Pro 1.5 which also wasn't pirated, i got that as a gift.
My older version of Premier, 1.5 still works, and my older versions of Photo shop (CS?) and After effects (6.5) still work. So that's good. Just having a problem with Cs3 :(
