Premiere Pro CS3 stopped working
running on mac pro. all of the sudden the timeline would not play a video. I tried other projects and other clips. The same. Move the cursor and refresh is slow but there. No moving playback at all, audio or video. I pulled the same video clip into FCP Express and it plays fine. The same clips play in quicktime. Other programs work fine. I reinstalled the software. Any ideas?
thanks.
Scott,
When things work one day, but not the next, then something has changed. Unfortunately, the trick is to find out what has changed.
One thing that happens often on the PC-side of the street is that OS updates can kill video and audio drivers. Because PrPro and FCP likely access the video sub-system differently, that could explain why one would work fine, but not the other. Have you had any OS updates that coincide with the failure of PrPro? Any new hardware or software?
I have some trouble shooting tips, but they are for PC's and probalby do not have any equivilent on the Mac-side. Sorry.
Do not know if Mac's have something like Windows' Restore Points, where one can roll back the OS to a previous date. This could help pinpoint an OS update, or the installation of other software, that is getting in the way.
It sounds like you are getting the program to launch, but it is in a frozen state. You might want to investigate your OpenGL in your video sub-system. I know zero about how, or even if, Mac's use OpenGL, but this has caused some issues on PC's.
Since I know little of Mac's, I'm only guessing and most of those guesses are filtered through the PC's.
Good luck

I am using the premiere pro trial at the moment and have been trying to render a video for a solid week now. My computer is far more powerful then the recommended specs and yet it still takes 2 hours to attempt to export a 3 minute video (that isn't even heavily edited) and not only that but it will get to 99 or 100% when it says Premiere Pro has stopped working and needs to close. I have used earlier versions of the product before and never had such problems, even my 2 year old laptop could breeze exporting. What's going on?
Thanks, I'm a bit new to asking for help!
Version : Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 (8.2)
It is up to date
I'm using Windows 8.1 build 9600
My sources are contained in .mov, .mp4 and .png. The codec I'm trying to use is H.264
After I set the project to export I got this error message every time it gets to either '99' or '100%' completed. "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"
I have never had such a problem with the program which makes me think it might have something to do with a recent update.
No other notable software was running during the export.
I don't have any third-party effects or codecs installed.
I have 64 bit OS and processor, Intel i5 - 4670K quad core clocked at 3.40 GHz. 12 GB of RAM. And a GTX 770 with 2GB of video RAM.
Unless it was installed in the trial, I do not have the Mercury Playback Engine.
And finally, it can be noticeably choppy during the preview when it gets to the part I don't have rendered but is fine again for a bit if I replay those parts. A part from being a bit slower then usual, I didn't actually run into a major problem until I started exporting.
Thank you for the help! Any suggestions? -

Premiere Pro has been working fine everyday since Christmas.
I have made no changes to anything on the Computer, but suddenly this evening I get message every time I try to enter Premire Pro. that Premiere Pro has stopped working and windows is checking for solution, and I am unable to open any of my projects.
I have checked all drivers and gedt messages they are all working correctly.
David WellsThank you John for your help
I have a AMD Radeon HD 7570 Driver Version 13.152.0.0
I had already been to their site and run AMD Driver AutoDetect without any luck
I have been using Adobe Creative Cloud for the year since I first purchased this computer, and every programme except Premiere Pro is working OK. I had a similar problem a few months ago after I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and I then uninstalled Premiere Pro, and deleted the AMD Beta Drivers which I had installed from AMD Catalyst following a recommendation on the Forum, and when I reloaded Premiere Pro everything worked OK without the Beta Drivers, .and although I still received messages Premiere Pro has stopped working some times, until yesterday I had always opened Premiere Pro after a couple of tries.
I was going to uninstall Premiere Pro this morning, but following your E Mail I went back to AMD and thought I would try downloading Beta Drivers from AMD Catalyst and Premiere Pro opened first time of asking.
The joys of Computers, Lets hope it keeps working now
Thanks a lot

Premiere Pro CS6 stopped working, for one user profile
So Premiere Pro CS6 wouldn't open today. Opened fine yesterday, and the days before that. The program didn't crash yesterday or close improperly. I just get the logo splash screen, but I don't see the usual text stream of applications starting up on it. After a long time I get a Windows message saying it can't open the program.
- I used Bridge to update to the latest version. No help.
- I made sure Quicktime was updated.
- I cleared the preferences by moving the whole My Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\6.0 folder somewhere else (as a backup). Next time I tried starting the program it created a new \6.0 folder but that's as far as it went.
- I deleted AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro. Starting the program recreated the folder, made a Trace Database file but only put two entries in it:
DynamicLink 1 5
FE.WinInit.LocPlugins 1 5
And then it stops there. No other files created.
- Tried starting the program holding the Shift Key, and again with the Alt key, and again with both. No change.
- Rebooted after every change.
I tried logging out as the video user account and logging in with my personal account, and then Premier Pro opened just fine.
Problem is, I need it to work on the video user account because it was created specifically for our video editing PC. Our company logins also tie into our email and other programs. This one was created specifically so more than one person could share Premiere Pro settings and resources, and there was a battle with our IT to get it because they despise generic accounts.
I've seen other threads here mentioning startup problems but the solutions listed there don't work for me. Manually trashing the \6.0 folder didn't help. I don't have a .pref file or Preferences folder other than the \6.0 one. I haven't made any changes to the PC. The video drivers must be OK or it wouldn't start under the other user account. How do I fix this one? This was Microsoft patch week... did you install Windows updates?

Premiere Pro CC Stopped Working while exporting
I've been working on Premiere Pro CC since 2 months without any issue. I made a multicam sequence this time as we had a project with 3 cams and edited it well. Everything went well until we exported it. While exporting it, premiere suddenly stops working in between. Tried exporting in a queue, using Adobe Media Encoder, same happens there stops suddenly and says a problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
I'm having videos from 3 cameras, 50i AVCHD footage. Audio from Zoom H1
Kindly help.
I have tried going on Software only as well as have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing worked so far. Please please help.. It suddenly stops working at about 45%..
I'm on a Windows 64bit machine with 8gb ram, Nvidia graphics card(drivers updated), Intel i3-3220.
EDIT : I tried re-exporting one of my previous projects, and it renders well..
Message was edited by: YamanagI'm encoding the sequence in AME itself. While watching the clip when encoding it, I saw where it stops and changed the clip there. I currently have Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and have never had these issues exporting before. My timeline is less than 3 minutes long, but it does deal with multiple big files. It rendered perfectly and it plays perfectly in the timeline. When I try to export it using Media Encoder, however, it freezes at the same frame every time (which is actually only a few seconds in!) and then crashes, so that I have to force quit. I have tried exporting it as many different codecs and the problem persists... same frame. I tried creating a new project entirely and whipping together a few titles and exporting that to see if it just won't export anything at all. The new project exported just fine, however, which I suppose is good news. But yeah, my work on that other project is very important to me and I reallllly want to export it. Please help!
Hi Jim! Thank you for your reply. I think you are right -- and that it lies in the audio somehow!
It turns out that if I choose to only export the video, and uncheck audio, it will export very well and smoothly. That's great news for me!
However, now I am trying to work out how to get the audio exported without issues. I actually had the idea of just playing the audio in the timeline and recording it via Stereo Mix, but my Windows 7 driver has Stereo Mix disabled, so it's back to square one. Any ideas of what I can do about the corrupted audio not exporting, which works fine when played in the timeline? -

Premiere Pro CS3 Crashing Frequently -
Hi Everyone
PP is starting to crash every 5 minutes and it is giving us major headaches.
When we first started using CS3 it was fine but after using it a while it started crashing, we save frequently to avoid losing work but now it crashes more frequently and takes times to load. It is making it very hard to complete the project as we are wasting too much time because of the crashes.
Information:
We are putting together 8 x 30 min and one 2 hour (sports shows). We are using 26 hours of DV footage in SD. Project settings PAL DV.
Technical hardware:
Intel Dual Core 2 gz
Ram 3gb
Nvidia 256 graphics card with latest drivers.
Vista 32 bit with latest updates
Premeire Pro CS3 with all latest updates.
All Project files are stored on a external hard drive. Project file is now 30 mb.
Premiere Pro doesn't give us any error message when it crashes. Just starts going slow, then doesn't respond, then a few seconds later ' Premiere Pro has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows is looking for a solution'. it then just hangs for a few mintues then closes down with no further information. Windows doesn't come up with a solution either. All other software on the computer is stable.
This doesn't occur on a particular sequence, or when we are using footage from a particular tape etc (as far as we can see). Just seems to be quite random. We can't render or export a sequence because Premiere crashes during the process. As you can imagine on a project this big we are using many nested sequences.
We have tried renaming the project which didn't work but want to try some other suggestions.
I am not sure what information would be useful to help identify this problem. If you need any further information please let us know.
We would appreciate any help or suggestions you can give us.
Regards, CarlDear everyone,
We are having just the same problem for past month:
- we tried almost everything: tried premier pro 1.5, and CS3.
- we reinstalled windowsXP for about 10 times, so now we are using absolutely clean system that is installed on new hard drive (there's only windows on it, premier and necessary drivers )
- we are using fast computer
- we were working with uncompressed video and now we trasnformed it into DV,
Still, nothing really hepled us and it crashes all the time.
anyway, if anybody knows any solutions to frequent crashes of premier pro (1.5 or CS3), please help!
project size now about 260 mb
computer:
motherboard - asus P5B,
RAM - corsar ddr2 - 4 GB
processor - core 2 duo 6600 (2*2.4)
video editing card - deckLink extreme
2 raids (each about 2 TB)
Now, even autosave stopped working at all, and pretty often when trying to save the project premier crashes.
Does anyone know how to decrease the size of the project? but we can't break it apart at the moment because we are need occasionally all the sequences that are in the project now...
We would be thankful for any help...
Dusan
