Premiere Pro CS4 and Quicktime
I had an issue and I called Adobe support. I since upgraded to Win 7, so I had to reinstall everything. This is fine, but silly me forgot which version of Quicktime is recommended with Adobe and CS4. I know that the most up to date version is not recommended. At least that is what the phone represenattive told me. She pointed me to an earlier version. Does anyone know what Quicktime version is recommended and where I can download it?
Just wanted to check before I am forced to call again!

And you don't recall the version numbers for the older and newer versions that you're referring to? I'd be ciurious to know the details.
No, the reason I do not recall is I have used PCs my whole life and QT has been irrelevant to me. It has only had meaning to me since I started using Adobe and I never encountered a problem until this last time with it. Plus, the version numbers of quicktime are very similar. 7.5.5.inna.gadda.da vida.
I *thought* the woman on the phone told me it was version 6.something. However, I found an older version and Adobe didn't even recognize it on my comptuer as a compatible version. I should have some more information backed up at home. I will dig for it.

Over time, the 7.4.x versions (seems that there were two), caused issues with many Adobe programs. Version 7.5.5 seemed to have been stable with Adobe, and that is what I still have. When the 7.6.x versions came out, problems followed for 7.6.2 and 7.6.3, IIRC. Version 7.6.6 seems to do quite well, and is the current, or was until very recently. It has not gotten perfect marks, but the vast majority of users do not seem to have issues with it. For a bit, it had a perfect record around here, and then a few issues were reported. I do not recall those exact issues, and they may have been related to other software, or hardware issues, but rolling-back to 7.5.5 worked in most cases. So 7.6.6 gets a very good grade, but just not perfect for all Adobe users.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - I'd try 7.6.6 and put it through its paces. If you encounter issues, try 7.5.5.
Thanks Hunt! Yeah, she said that some versions were not working.

Premiere Pro CS4 and my laptop
Hi everyone,
I'm using Premiere Pro CS4 on my laptop with below specs:
Intel Pentium III Seon 2,27 Ghz
3GB Internal memory
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3430 (512 MB)
FUJITSU MHZ2250BH G2 (232 GB, IDE)
Windows XP 32 bits with Service Pack 3
Recently i've experienced really bad video playback. When I play a video to start edit it, it starts stuttering. I've tried the settings on "automatic quality" and "draft quality", bot in both situations the same problem. The video i'm editing now is HD1080 GoPro video. Also tried it was an already converted version of this video to AVI.
I expect that a laptop from the time that CS4 came out, suitable for 32bits system, should be working on my (in that time) better than average laptop.
Please let me know if i'm totally wrong and there is no way that Premiere is gonna work on my system!
Thanks in advance,
DannySystem requirements Adobe Premiere Pro CS4
Windows
2 GHz or faster processor for DV; 3.4 GHz for HDV; dual 2.8 GHz for HD*
Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 (Service Pack 3 recommended) or Windows Vista® Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with Service Pack 1 (certified for 32-bit Windows XP and 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista)
2 GB of RAM
10 GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on flash-based storage devices)
1280 x 900 display with OpenGL 2.0–compatible video card
Dedicated 7200-RPM hard drive for DV and HDV editing; striped disk array storage (RAID 0) for HD; SCSI disk subsystem preferred
For SD/HD workflows, an Adobe-certified card for capture and export to tape
OHCI-compatible IEEE 1394 port for DV and HDV capture, export to tape, and transmit to DV device
DVD-ROM drive (DVD+-R burner required for DVD creation)
Blu-ray burner required for Blu-ray disc creation
Microsoft Windows Driver Model– or ASIO-compatible sound card
QuickTime 7.4.5 software required to use QuickTime features
Broadband Internet connection required for online services†
My harddrive is a Fujitsu Mobile MHZ2250BH-G2 250 GB hard drive. With a Spindle Speed of 5400 rpm. So not the 7200-RPM which is needed for HDV and HD editing?
And if I understand it correctly I would need a 3,4 Ghz for HDV editing or Dual 2,8 Ghz processor for HD editing? GoPro is HD1080, so would need at least the Dual 2,8 Ghz?

Premiere Pro CS4 and Adobe Media Encoder Problems
I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 on a Mac running 10.6, and I consistently encounter this problem when trying to export a Premiere project using Adobe Media Encoder.
What does this mean? And has anyone else encountered this problem as well? I really need a fix if there is one, because I really need to be using Premiere. I have reinstalled several times, but to no avail. Help me please!Jim, thanks for testing.
My concerns are about a)distribution and general b)compatibility.
a) When videos are distributed most of the users will probably try to open the files with Windows Media Player. So it is not a good start to have fresh exported h.264 videos which won't run fine with the 'main' player on windows
b) I am wondering if the Problems with Windows Media Player may also be a sign of a general compatibility issue of the h.264 video itself
At least in case b) Adobe would have to look into this.
Here is another test video:

Premiere Pro CS4 and Canon 600d problems
Hello,
Recently I've been having a few recourring problems when trying to edit footage I captured on my Canon 600D on Adobe Premiere Pro CS4.
The footage shot on the Canon is 1920x1080 at 24fps, when I create a setup preset for these settings in Premiere the clips appear to import absolutely fine. The setup Ive created is shown in the screenshot below.
The problems start when I place the clip on the sequence and render it, once the clip renders the playback in the program/timeline preview window goes all weird and doesn't play the clip properly. Shown in the screenshot below.
First of all I thought this might just be a playback error but when I try to export it as a video file it says error and closes down. This is extremely irratating so i wondered if anyone would be able to offer me a soloution. I have a feeling it may be my setup preset but if so would someone be able to tell me the correct way to set it up for a canon 600d camera because whenever I try a preset found within premiere it exports the video at 720 resolution and very low quality.
Thanks very much for whoever replies, I appreciate it very much
MikeAhhh okay that sucks, is there anyway to convert the footage that I already have without drastically reducing the quality as I want my film to be the best quality that is possible?

Premiere Pro CS4 and Audition 3 problem!
Please help! I have CS4 Premiere and Audition 3 I update Premiere to version 4.2 and I got to edit in Audition, but dark and I can not hit. When I push edit original, audition opened and the processed sound. When I want to save the file leaves me a window that can not be done because the file is open in another program. Thanks in advance reply.
The solution is very simple,:
This update resolves the question.
This update install modification in dynalic link to support adobe autition3 instead of soundbooth.
This updaye , also adds support for AAF import/export, Apple Final Cut Pro XML project import, and OMF export, along with
numerous other stability and quality improvements. The update is recommended for all Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 users.
An important detail is that this feature only works in Windows. Sorry ´bout the poor MAC software.

Reinstalling all the apllication and if the aplication is standard CS4 (4.0) this acti0on will not resolve the issue.
My recomendation is to install update 4.0.1 and 4.1.0
Others like 420, 421 is apllicable only if demand use of large avc intra, red format and p2 with h264 and other improvments

Premiere Pro CS4 and BlackMagic Drivers 3.0
My first effort with the new Black Magic drvers 3.0 did not work.
Here is the system information, project settings and the problem:
XP Pro SP3
QX9650 3GHZ
3G Ram
Nvidia GeForce 8800GT
Capture via both BM Media Express and PPro Capture (F5)
Project Settings are BM HD 1080i 59.94
Motion JPEG
Sony HDR HC7 Camera set to 1080i
Whenever I open a BlackMagic preset as above, PPro crashes when I try to import files captured via either Media Express or PPro.
I get this message every time:
[..\..\SRCRemoteImporter Module.cpp-25]
I also have CS3 on the same system and when I open a BM preset with the same settings as with CS4, all is well.
It must be something with CS4. Any ideas?

Premiere Pro CS4 and JVC HM700e (Mac)
Hey there,
first i'd like to excuse my bad (school-)english.
Hope you'll understand my question anyway.
We just bought a new JVC-HM 700e Camcorder and we use the CS4 Creative Suite in our company.
The 700e we can produce MP4 (Win) and MOV (Mac + FinalCut).
Now we have problems to watch and import the Video to a new Premiere Pro Project.
You have any idea how to handle those files with Mac and Premiere?
Thank you!
Nikolaus K.Is there any way that I can get Premiere Pro CS4 to recognise Encore CS5 for Dynamic Linking?
No. The rest is probably thwartet by licensing restrictions for the MPEG and DVD stuff as it existed back then. Anyway, IMO not worth the trouble to work with DL. Due to the limited memory in 32bit apps it will be severely unenjoyable plus it had tons of bugs back then.

How to use Premiere Pro CS4 and AE together to stabilize a shaky video.
Hello,
I know where to find and apply the stabilization tool in AE CS4, problem is I don't really understand compositions. I have a very very basic understanding of AE in general, more so the workflow and what some of the buttons here and there do.
Maybe this will be easier to answer.
I have my raw footage in Premiere Pro Cs4 right now, before I edit it I want to stabilize it. How to a connect PP and AE?
Will AE change the quality of my video? I need to keep it HD. I'm in a professional setting.
I do I take the stabilized video from AE and put it back into PP for further editing?
And finally, maybe this is redundant, but do I have to export out of AE or can I put the edited work back into PP for the rendering (exporting) process?
I can clarify on anything you need if I'm not making sense.
Thanks in advance for you the help!
-MarkThe "Working with After Effects and Premiere Pro" page gives an overview of the ways to move data back and forth between Premiere Pro and After Effects, and it also includes links to a few basic video tutorials on the subject.
It sounds like you need to learn the basics of After Effects first. I suggest starting on this page. -
Resources for Using Premiere Pro CS4 and Encore to author Blu Ray DVDs
I am getting ready to author some Blu Ray DVDs consisting of HD video of various aspect ratios and formats on the same disc. I have Premiere Pro sequences that are either 720p30 and 1080i (60i). The 720p video is 1280x720 (1.0) 60fps. The 1080 footage is mixed with some of the 1080i (60i) sequence video being 1440x1080 (1.3333) at 29.97 fps and some at 1920x1080 (1.0) at 29.97 fps. I haven't mixed the formats into the same project. I've kept them in separate projects because I'm unsure what would happen on export and whether I'd suffer degredation of one or the other if I dumped them together into the same timeline.
The final Blu-Ray project would consist of a bunch of menu items with each item going to a specific exported video of a specific format and/or aspect ratio. After playing around the Media Encoder for a couple of hours looking for an export setting that would preserve the video quality as close as possible to the original source video, I've settled on using the MPEG-2 Blu-Ray format using either the HDTV 1080i High Quality or the HDTV 720p 59.94 High Quality presets, depending on the format of the original video that I'm compiling.
Before I start firing up Media Encoder though, I need to figure out a couple of things pertaining to authoring Blu-Ray and what I can and cannot do. For example, can I have mixed formats on the same disk (720p and 1080i) as long as the the 720p video exists in one file and the 1080i exists in a different file? Looking over the Blu-Ray settings in Encore CS4 it's not clear to me and so far I've found nothing in the help file that says definitively that I can't have multiple file formats/aspect ratios/frame rates in the same project, though the way the New Project menu functions it suggests I can't.
Another question I have is would it behoove me to upgrade to CS5 or does it not make a difference whether I use CS4 or CS5 in terms of trying to accomplish what I want to accomplish? And if anyone can point me to other resources on this subject, that would be helpful as well. Thanks.I use BD-RE disks.
First i make an iso and test it on the pc. (virtual clone drive and Power dvd)
Then burn with Nero to RE and test it on a standalone BD player.
If the RE passes the test i burn the iso to BD disk again with Nero (i am still on version 7) -
Premiere Pro CS4 and Snow Leopard problems!!
I recently updated to Mac OSX Snow Lopard and now the files I have created in Premiere Pro won't open or constantly crash!
Is there any solution besides uninstalling Snow Leopard? You can always create a new project and import old one into new one. More likely it is some old plugging or filter or third party transition quit working and not letting you to open project.

Here is a screenshot of the issue. As you can see the timeline looks a bit funky!!!
Thanks Ann...I did find an update for the graphics card driver...but it didn't do the trick unfortunately.

Premiere pro CS4+media encoder CS4 problem encoding to WMV and MOV
Hello,
I am new to CS4. I lurked around the meanders of CS4 help and FAQ. In spite of the large help database I could not find a solution to my issue.
I edited a little movie from shots I took during holidays. I edited in premiere pro cs4 and it is a bit faster than CS3 <yoohoo>
However I want to export the movie as NTSC source to high quality download. In the Expot settings, I wrote a file output of course so it can encode and compile the movie somewhere on my HDD and I did not touch anything in standad NTSC source to high quality download values and tabs. In the end the movie should be around 848 mega.
I press OK, then Media Encoder pops up on screen. my project comes automatically in Media Encoder which is neat so I just had to click on start Queue but here is my problem...
I can wait for 4 hours or more, Media Encoder status states Encoding but nothing moves forward. Elapsed time remains at 00:00:00, Estimated Remaining remains blank.
Although something triggered my attention when I widen Media Encoder Source Name tab. It sounds like my project from Premiere Pro is placed in a temporary folder instead of using the regular save project file folder in ...>adobe>premiere pro>4>sebsofie2010b which strange.
I try to place a picture of my issue and perhaps it will help everyone.
This picture was taken about 1 hour and half after I tried to encode the movie for the fifth time.
The status quotes "Encoding"...
Thanks in advance for any helpHello,
This is Song to an Illiad. I had to change Email address and password as I am switching provider soon.
So Ok to bypass the issue at that time, I simply transfered all files to a jumpdrive and re-did the composition at a friend house. Although my problem persist and Thank you for the Wiki link it was helpful. Sherlock free ware discovered several erronous Codec. Do not ask me why, how, when please. I do not toy around with codecs and all I do is update software but I have several software going from Adobe to Autodesk series as well as Nero Light version that came with my Dvd burner. Should I also mention I play video games when down time permits, as such I updated several time the DirectX software. Beside this, what is it called... Dvix or Xvid, well something like that... prompted me about 2 months ago to update to a newer version which I did. Finally I installed a freeware to export an avi type to another found on Cnet.com a few months ago as the file could be seen in Premiere pro but there were no Audio track seen in premiere while the client gave me his camcorder and I knew there should be an audio track, it was a sort of camcorder that records on a memory sticks which is why the camera was small. It was a canon but nothing more detailed than that. Anyway, I had the camera with no drivers whatsoever and I had a hard time to find the driver for free online which is why I found a freeware or perhaps was it a shareware or a trial (I am not sure), anyway it decoded and re-encoded the movie which it did successfully with lots of image loss quality but it was succesful. I know I deliberatly threw the shareware or trial straight in the garbage once I was done because I do not want this kind of junk on my PC. Perhaps could it be the issue with Media Encoder not able to start?!?!
Here comes a couple of texts Copy/Past & image to describe what Sherlock found

What should I do? Can I just reinstall the codec from my Adobe CS4 Production Suite (Without) creating more issues and problems? It seemed the Wiki hints were helpful to pin point a problem but not always at giving solution.
Thanks in advance,
Seb
P.S: Could Adobe throw a little software to download to ensure all codecs are what they should be like and prompt user to reinstall straight from our Dvds? It would be soo much easier that way.
Seb -
I have a Canon Vixia HF20 and a Sony HDR-XR350V. The Canon gives me .MTS files and the Sony produces .M2TS files. What do I need to do to be able to work with these files in Premiere Pro? I've searched and gotten that I'll need to purchase a codec. But are both file types going to be good with one codec?
Also, what are the steps to getting started? Purchase the codec, load the codec...Will there be any other steps to working with the files in Premiere?
I'm sorry for the basic questions, I'm a photographer! I've never worked with video before, and this is HARD!
Thank you for your help,
MichelleHi, Michelle.
I'm nowhere near the authority on this stuff that many of the others are here, but I have Premiere Pro CS4 and I work directly with AVCHD .mts files from my Panasonic camera. I simply browse to the directory where the .mts files are located and drag them into the project. I didn't need to purchase any additional codec, this is natively supported in Premiere CS4.
I can't speak to m2ts files as I don't have any gear that generates them.
One thing you do need to know, however, and this is important. Whether you're running a Mac or a PC, if you're going to work with high def footage such as AVCHD, you're going to need a fairly high performance computer with sufficient RAM, good performing hard drives and a fast CPU.
I tried this on a PC that was fine for my recording studio (audio), fine for professional software development, but choked and stuttered working with HD material. That's not a problem with the Adobe software, it's just the nature of the beast. HD is extremely demanding stuff, so you need top flight gear to work with it. I bought a higher performance PC and now it runs just fine.
Hope this helps,

Premiere Pro CS4 added contrast H.264 preview files
Hi,
Any help I can get with this problem would be amazing.
I recently updated my OS to 10.6 as there were programs I wanted to run not available on 10.5, however this caused other issues with Premiere that I couldn't fix so I just decided to go back to 10.5. With both installs I reformatted the hard-drive then installed the OS. Now that I've reinstalled OSX 10.5 and updated to the most current version, and then installed Premiere Pro CS4 and updated that to the most current version (4.2.1) and also updated the codecs for Premiere, I'm having an issue with my preview/render files in my timeline that I never had before. It appears that now when I render my original H.264 files the preview/render files have added contrast/crushed blacks and blown out highlights.
Basically I'm editing H.264 footage from a DSLR, and when I open up a project that I was working on before I began this upgrade mess it opens correctly, but if I extend a clip in my timeline to include part of the original clip that was not previously rendered, Premiere renders this clip with what appears to be increased gain and pedestal/increased contrast. I've also tried this in a new project and it still renders with much more contrast than it used to. Whether in a new project or previous project, Premiere seems to decrease pedestal so my blacks are around/below 7.5 IRE and my whites are at/above 100 IRE. it looks really messed up when this occurs in the middle of a clip that was half rendered before and half after the install. Also I'll bet it's not going to help when it comes to color correcting and it looks like I could be losing image data.
I don't know what has caused this as it was working properly before my attempted upgrade, and I installed Premiere the exact same way as I did the last time I installed it and I'm using the same version. The only hiccup was after the install and upgrade it said media offline on my old project until it asked me to update codecs, once codecs were updated it displayed all footage in my timeline correctly and then I noticed that I could no longer render preview files to the same standard.
Here are screen shot comparisons of a video from my timeline. These are back to back frames, the top one was rendered before the most recent install, the other rendered after. I have put a YC Waveform chart beside the image. Sorry I think the best way to see it is just to follow the link otherwise it's gonna be too small.

Also here is a screenshot of the settings I'll describe below.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/86776146@N03/8101463115/sizes/l/in/photostream/
Computer:
Mac OSX 10.5.8
Intel Core Duo
Premiere Pro CS4 (4.2.1)
Project Settings:
HDV 720p
29.97 fps
1280 x 720
square pixels
30fps drop-code
I-Frame Only MPEG (video codec)
I've already searched for a solution to this but come up with nothing. I read a bunch of stuff on the increase in gamma that can happen with .mov files but I don't think this applies to my situation as I would have been having that same issue with my previously rendered footage.
Anything would be really helpful...Thanks
Message was edited by: Mike542Okay so I've been looking into this in depth over the past few days and I haven't come up with a lot. I have noticed that it's not just the render files but also the inspection window where the clip displays in this manner. It looks like the luma range (as seen in YCbCr scope) is being limited between 7.5 and 92 IRE and I think this is maybe a good indicator of the problem. Why this is happening I don't understand. On my clips that were previously rendered in this timeline there is full range from 0 to 100 in the luma from the YCbCr scope. These files were rendered to an external drive from before I reinstalled Premiere, so it's any h.264 files that I am using after reinstall that are having this issue. I have attached another screen capture illustrating this (look at line to right of scope showing full luma range). Also I have some .mts files from another camera and they import with full luma range as well.

When playing my h.264 files in Quicktime or VLC they look about the same in terms of blown out whites and crushed blacks. Does Premiere rely on Quicktime for its h.264 codec or does it have it's own? Is there a way to force premiere to update its codecs/manually download and replace the h.264 codec?
I really can't understand what's happening here and I can't do any work when imported clips are this messed up. Can someone please help out on this!!! Super frustrating and seems to constantly happen with Premiere... -
Premiere pro cs4 crashes during splash
hi i recently installed premiere pro cs4 and when i try to open it it crashes when it gets to loading solidcomposite.aex. i tried removing each plug-in and it kept crashing on the next plug-in. however, when i removed asiowdm.dll the splash immediately ended and appeared to crash because nothing opened. i dont know what asiowdm.dll is but would anyone know why this file would cause problems and if there is anything i can do to fix it?
THANKS!Mike,
When something works one day, but not the next, it is almost always a sign that something has changed. It could be a seemingly insignificant incident, such as MS Windows doing an automatic update, or it could be more significant, like loading new software, or adding/removing hardware.
Think about what has, or might have, gone one, from the time that PrP worked, and now. Check the schedule of your OS updates and see if any were installed in that time. Did you change any hardware? Did you install ANY new programs?
With the OS updates, drivers that worked perfectly before can be rendered obsolete. Check for any video and audio driver updates for your system. Also, check your current version of QuickTime and also your Flash player. I may be confusing the programs, but IIRC PSs installer relies heavily on the Flash player. Might be true for PrP too. Many folk had problems with PS installing, and either had a hosed Flash player, or needed to update what they had.
If Jeffs idea does not work, also look on the MS Windows site. There was an issue with an older version of MS Installer and PS (do not recall this problem with any other Adobe programs, but might have missed the articles). MS corrected the problem and a simple install of the new MSI took care of all issues. Do not recall if this was in XP, or Vista, but MS is pretty good at listing which OSs their fixes cover.
Others have had positive results by doing an install from the contents of the DVDs copied over to the hard drive (need some real estate there), and then running the installation from the Desktop. Some also needed to do the install from Safe Mode, but not all.
Again, if Ive mixed up exactly which Adobe program suffered from some of these, I apologize. BTW, what forum am I in? Ah, now I see, PrP CS4...
Good luck and please let us know how it goes,
Hunt
