  • Can I export an .mp4 file created by Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 to tape using alternative software?

I am editng with Premiere Pro CS4 on a Windows XP system.  I attempt to disable all startup and background software .  When i export a one hour completed project to tape, I invariably get at least one glitch (momentary stop) on the resulting tape. Is there an alternate program I can use to export to tape an .mp4 file created by CS4?

Could be wrong, but as far as I know the only way to "export" to tape is to PLAY the timeline while the camera is connected via Firewire and in record mode

  • Premiere Pro CS4 loss of files and crash

    Hi folks,
Hoping somebody on here can help me. I'm a student editing my final project for my Master's degree and I've come up against a pretty large problem that I can't understand.
I've been editing for about 2 months, perfectly happily, no major issues other than a problem transcoding HD footage to SD. Had to use two file formats in the end as no transcoder seemed to want to process half of the footage. Anyway, as a result my project is made up of about half .avi files and half .mp4 files and here begins the problem...
As I've said, there had been no major problems editing with these two files in the same project, as you'd expect. However, today Premiere has suddenly "lost" the .mp4 files.
All that remains in their place is a black screen and a horrible, loud, electronic buzzing sound when played in the timeline. It is impossible to drag the .mp4 files from the project list to the editing screen. The .avi files still work fine.
No files have been moved or deleted. The file paths are exactly the same as they have been since day one of the edit.
The troublesome .mp4 files are still listed in the project window on the left of the screen, so I thought it'd simply be a case of right-clicking and re-linking them to the source files. However, the instant the file is right-clicked a dialog box flashes up saying there is a serious error and Premiere needs to close.
    Any ideas?
Here are a couple of screen shots of the problem, the troublesome .mp4 files are circled in red in the first shot. The second is of the error message after right clicking the file on the left hand side.
    Hope somebody can help!

    Hi Robodog,
Downloaded GSpot. Not sure it has been much help though. Codec status result was "undetermined". Here's the screen shot.
Will happily upload an MP4 for somebody to look at. Think Vimeo should allow you to download the source file once I've uploaded it. Putting one of the shortest ones up. It is viewable here.
Have tried putting faulty MP4s in a new project this morning. No luck. MP4s imported but were not recognised correctly. No visual, just an endless black screen. No audio at all, not even the option to drag the audio to the timeline when in the edit window, which was puzzling. The files shouldn't have changed but obviously have somehow. Or at Least Pr thinks they have. They still work 100% ok in all video players I have and when uploaded to video hosting sites.
Here's a screen shot of the new project attempt.

  • My Numbers-program is blocked I can't use and can'tt close it

    Dear Apple Support Communities
    Thank you for your support.
Now the program is not blocked more . I can create new spread sheets, work in them and save them, but I can't enter the old and work on them.
When I, as advised, copy them to work on the copy, it is not possible to write in the copy.
Another mystery : Now I can't send a file from desktop to the recycle bin. It am asked for password and I give it it . But the file remains on the desktop.
    Kind regard

If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked
Allow user to administer this computer
Then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Premiere Pro CS4: Output Issue - codec and image size

I am having an issue when outputing a video file from Prem Pro to Media Encoder.  The dimensions of the input video are the usual 720x576.  The output I need is 390x390 to match my project.  By choosing the Sorenson 3 video codec I am able to adjust the size from 720x576 to 390x390.  However, it also applies black bars to the top and bottom of the image.  I don't want this.  If I choose the DV PAL video codec the black bars are removed in the output but I do not have control over the image size.
In Prem Pro 1.5 the media encoder allowed for this and I was able to create a cropped video image (390x390) without black bars.  By selecting the zoom option the image was fitted into the window size.  There is no zoom option in CS4 in Media Encoder.  This is very frustrating!
    Any help would be appreciated...
    Thanks, Neil

This is odd indeed, and I cannot recall having read of such. The tips were just the general things that one normally checks out, when there are audio issues, so nothing specific to this behavior.
Now, as a test, you might want to try ASIO4ALL, linked in the article above. Usually, it will get audio, where the Realtek, or Creative driver will not. Again, this is as a test, just to see if by-passing the Realtek driver will help. Do not forget to set the Audio Hardware ASIO to ASIO4ALL in Input and Output. Then test. If it has zero affect, then just uninstall it, and change the setting back.
Good luck, and wish I had more to help,
    Hunt
PS - other than mechanical/electrical things like the audio chip heating up and a connection failing, I just cannot think of something that would cause this behavior. Maybe download and run SpeedFan, a great little free utility, and monitor the temps for all components with sensors.

  • How to merge avi files by using Adobe Premiere Pro cs4?

    Hi guys,
This is my first post on this forum, I have 10 fraps avi files and how can I merge them in Premiere Pro CS4? I know I can do this easily by using other vidoe filer joiner or merger, but I'm trying to find out if this can be done with Premiere cs 4 alone?

  • Premiere Pro CS4 indexing and conforming issue

    Hello guys,
Is it normal for Premiere Pro CS4 to always conform and index the clips?
The clips have been conformed and indexed already but the program always do these procedures from time to time?
Is there a setting or preference that I can disable this function or is it something default to the program?>

    Robert,
This is quirk of Dynamic Link between AE and PPro. For some reason, even if your AE comp has no audio, DL suggests a phantom audio track to PPro when that comp is DL'd and every time thereafter when you change the comp in AE. This results in reconforming the same audio track (real or implied) multiple times--a side effect of the "liveness" that is Dynamic Link. The clip automagically appears updated, and so PPro assumes that something has changed, and therefore will abandon the old conformed audio file and create a new one. The result is a pile of CFA and PEK files, most of which are extinct.
At this time, there is no way around this that I've uncovered. I believe it will take a future update of Dynamic Link to make it "smarter", in that it either checks if the audio portion of a comp has changed before reconforming, or it doesn't suggest an audio track if none exists in the comp. I don't know about most people, but I don't do a lot of audio in AE, so this feature would be helpful, I think.
The best approach is to set the PPro preference to create media cache files next to the original (Edit > Preferences > Media > Save Media Cache files next to originals when possible) to On. This way, every so often or at the end of a work day, you can jump into the folder where your AE comp is stored and quickly select and delete all of the CFA and PEK files. Even if you delete the one currently being used by PPro, it will be recreated when you reenter the project.

I have 64 bit windows 7 and CS4 Production Premium. I have a problem with Premiere Pro CS4, it keeps freezing and Crashing. A simple thing like leaving the project idle for about 15 minutes, you come back and find that it has frozen. Also if you drag out a clip on the timeline you will find that the whole application freezes. Any possible solutions would be much appreciated.

  • Adobe Dynamic Link will not work - Premiere Pro CS4 to After Effects CS4

    Hello,
I am edited a video with a deadline, I'm importing a sequence from Premiere Pro CS4 to After Effects and making edits in After Effects. I'm able to import the Premiere Pro sequence into After Effects using Dynamic Link, but  I go back to Premiere Pro and nothing has changed. Then I have to export the 21 minute long video in After Effects and that takes about 12 hours, that I can't afford. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, before I imported the timeline into AE, while I was in Premiere Pro I right clicked it and selected -Edit original. It took me to the .mov that I imported- since it's a redo. I learned how to use Dynamic Link from this tutorial-
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-cs4-production-premium/using-dynamic-link/
At first when Dynamic link didn't work I thought it was because I was cutting the imported Sequence from Premiere Pro in After Effects becasue I was motion tracking. When you import a Premier Pro sequence can you cut it into individual layers in After Effects?

I'm importing a sequence from Premiere Pro CS4 to After Effects
That doesn't create the type of Link you want here.  In this case, changes made to PP would show up in AE.  You want the reverse.  (And you can only go one way, not both.)

  • How do I export a Premiere Pro CS4 file as a *.mov file?

    Hi,
I got Premiere Pro CS4 some time back and never got round to properly learning to use it.  I've picked it up again and have put together a small video sequence to ensure I can create something simple for a start and that it publishes fine but I've encountered a problem at the publishing stage (and I want to use it in After Effects so this is irritating me):
    * I've finished the sequence and it's on my timeline in unexported form
    * I then click File-Export-Media to go to the export settings
    * In the settings I export as a Quicktime *.mov file and both the video and audio check boxes are checked and ready to go
    * The quality is 100% and the output name has a legitimate path on my computer
    * I click 'OK' and the save window closes and a smaller window says 'Exporting data/file/whatever it should say'
    * I then search for the saved file on my PC,  first in the path the save screen said,  then using the search box in the windows button and I find it hasn't saved anything and told me it has done
Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to properly save my video on my PC as a *.mov file?  I looked on Youtube and a tutorial suggested I was doing everything right but I just can't see why this isn't saving properly.
    Advance thanks.

What version of Apple's QT Player do you have installed?
What CODEC did you choose with your MOV Export?
    Good luck,

  • Premiere Pro CS4 Big Problem

When I open Adobe Premiere PRO CS4 (with all updates) I can't click on "New Project", "Open Project", "Help"... When I click any of them it just blinks, if I clicked it anywhere else. I'm also on Windows XP SP3 / 32bit version. Please help me guys!

I have to agree with Harm.  I didn't read it that way, Jeff.  It reads as if the OP ran the script and did the reinstall before Bill suggested it, and that still didn't work.
The way I read the OP's final post is that something else worked, but we don't know what.  Now maybe that's wrong, but that's how it reads to me.

  • Repeated Delays when Alt-Tabbing Back to Premiere Pro CS4

I'm experiencing a lengthy delay every time I switch away from Premiere Pro CS4 to another app and then switch back. Every time I Alt-tab back I get the hourglass cursor for 35 sec. Then, it goes through a generating peak file phase for each of the clips in the project. This goes more quickly, maybe 5-15 sec. But it does this EVERY SINGLE TIME I return to PP from another app.
This is on a newly built Windows XP 64 system based on the brand new Core i7 940 with 12 GB of RAM and four 500 GB+ hard disks. I've set the two media caches to each be on different disks. The system disk is a third disk and the project is on the fourth disk. There's no way this system should be slow with this material. The project is a lynda.com beginner's tutorial; we're talking half a dozen 15-second sequences.
How can I stop PP from going through this lengthy delay each and every time I switch back to it?

  • Can I import I-life files into Adobe Premiere Pro CS4?

Okay, so not exactly an Apple question, but there are so many smart, helpful people on here, and the Adobe forum doesn' t seem very active.
I recently got Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 (the movie editing software).  I tried to import files from I-photo, but those folders wouldn't even open.  Tried to import files from the movie folder, which were in .mpg format, but got a message that it is an incompatible format.
Those were just simple movie files taken with a small digital camera.  Does anyone know how I could use this footage in Adobe Pro?  I have access to other Adobe software as well, perhaps there is a way to convert the files?  If I try to import something to Adobe from I-movie, should that work?  Or from I-DVD?  Also, is it possible, with Adobe or regular Mac software, to import regular DVD footage (that is not in form of a computer file, but just something that plays in your DVD player) or perhaps convert it into a computer file?  I have some old VHS footage that was copied onto a DVD and would like to edit it, or at least have it on my computer as a file.
Also, if I can't use those files, are there any places on the internet where one can download some simple footage to try out in Adobe?  I'm new to it, so I'm just trying to get some files together so I can try out how it works.
Lastly, if anyone knows of a good online tutorual for CS4.  It's an older version, and on the Adobe site they only have tutorials for the newer one.
    Thanks!

This is a forum. None of the users here -at least not to my knowledge - are Adobe professional
Ninety-nine point nine percent correct. We are blessed with a few Adobe employees here, unlike some fora, but those folk are probably at NAB right now. Also, they are in other departments, so would have to walk "down the hall," or make a call, just as we would.
When it gets to issues on licensing, installation, etc., we're pretty much at a loss. Most of us have never encountered such issues, and only know what we have read in others' threads, when they have bothered to report back. Even then, that is third-hand info.
Last time that I had an Adobe installation issue was AI 3, IIRC. My upgrade version did not have the old database of S/N's. Mine was 00-000-003, and things had changed drastically. One call to Adobe, and a total time of about 5 mins. (including hold time), and I was given a number to plug in, and then everything installed perfectly. That was in about 1989, so is not quite contemporary. Still, that is the last and only first-person account that I can offer. Most here have zero personal experiences, as they came to the party later, and have just not had any such issues.
We'd love to help, but just do not have the experience.
    Good luck,

  • Can't Uninstall Premiere Pro CS4 from Trial-Missing Uninstall file

I was using the Premiere Pro CS4 (CS5 XP compatibility pack) as a free trial on my Windows XP computer. Since my trial period is over, I want to uninstall it. Unfortunately, something seems to be wrong. When I click on "Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4, 32-bit support for CS5" in my Add or Remove programs list, it says "An error has occured while trying to remove Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4, 32-bit support for CS5. It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4, 32-bit support for CS5 from the program list?"
I click No, because going into my Programs Folder, I see that nothing has been removed. I tried using the Clean Up script, choosing CS4 and later CS5, but the clean up program's box said no sessions were found.
After, I looked in the Adobe Premiere folder itself for an uninstall program, but found none.
I cannot even start the program anymore. Starting it, a dialogue box pops up saying
Licensing for this product has stopped working.
This product has encountered a problem which requires that you restart your computer before it can be launched.
If you continue to see this message after restarting your computer, please contact either your IT administrator or Adobe technical support for help, and mention the error code shown at the bottom of the screen.
    Error: 3
As far as I can tell, technical support doesn't come with a free trial, and my trial is expired anyway.
How can I get this program off of my computer now that I cannot use it?

    =========
It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4, 32-bit support for CS5 from the program list?"I click No, because going into my Programs Folder, I see that nothing has been removed
    ===========
This is the part I suggested you click YES...instead of NO... to see if removing the support then allows you to remove the whole program.. kinda a 2 step process...dont know if it will work or not.
You can call adobe support and explain the problem and they might be able to walk you through some process that works okay.. I would try that even though it may take some time to go through it.
I don't see how trying to reinstall could hurt you but I kinda doubt it will work...but why not try it??
Sorry, but I can't think of anything else ... except messing around with the "install / remove " programs stuff as mentioned above...
