Premiere Pro CS4 choking when loading timeline

Hey Everyone,
I'm currently using PP CS4 and I'm having a weird issue. I made some edits and have a two video tracks and 2 audio ones. I opened up the multicam monitor and made a few more edits. I then saved and closed the app. This was a couple of days ago and now when I try and re-open the project I was working on, Premiere is choking. It will load the project panel and all the of the other panels but it hangs before it can show any clips in the timeline (the timeline is empty).
I have the same project on two separate drives and I'm getting the same issue with I try and open from both locations. I then tried opening from an auto-save and it did what it was supposed to. This is at least 4 hours worth of changes I would be losing though. If anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
--Ty

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Cs4 : Stuck When Load ExporterWave.prm

hey , i just got my premiere pro stucked when startup , but when i delete the ExporterWave.prm , application run normally
    can someone explain this?
    sorry for my bad english

    Jeff,
The Page File is MS Windows' "virtual memory." It gets activity, when physical RAM is not available. Especially with video editing, this happens a lot. It can be set via Control>Panel>System. Windows can either dynamically create and size the file, as is necessary, or it can be set to provide the necessary size statically - always the same, and is *usually* set to ~ 2.5x the physical RAM.
With one physical HDD, that is partitioned, you have about 4-5 operations going on at the same time, and your I/O system is basically telling the heads of your HDD to be in different places/platters at this same time. Unfortunately, this is impossible, and one gets system hangs, sluggish performance, crashes or worse.
There are several good threads on suggested HDD setups for NLE work on this forum. I'd step back a level, so you get all Premiere forums, and search for some of these articles. There are a lot of worthwhile suggestions for number, type, connection and configuration of HDD's.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 crashes on load with project

When I try to load my CS4 projects the application crashes with the error:
"Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project."
I have my hard drive partitioned: C drive for my OS; D drive for my data; and I also have an external hard drive which is H. I installed Adobe Premiere on my D drive and saved all the my project files and data on my external drive H. A couple weeks ago I got a virus and I wiped out my C drive. So, I reinstalled Windows XP. After reinstalling XP and getting my machine back up and running I removed Premiere Pro CS4 from my D drive and installed it on my C:drive. I connected my external drive to my computer and Windows assigned the drive letter F to my external. I launched my project file and it said it could not find my data and it crashed with the above message. I opened my project file in a text editor and I saw that file path was H:\... for all my data so I reassigned the drive back to H hoping that was the reason for the crash. Much to my chagrin it was not as I try opening the project file now and it finds all the files but it still crashes. I'm all out of ideas at this point. Is there a log file that I can look at to try to troubleshoot this any further? Has anyone seen this happen before? Should I reinstall Adobe Premiere Pro? I am under a time crunch here as I need to open this project and make some edits.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 Crashes When Importing HD Clips

I've used Camtasia forever but recently decided to "upgrade" to Premiere Pro when I got my new Macbook.  Not being familiar with Premiere at all, I thought I would play with it with a few short clips.  I have HD footage of my martial arts class which I shot with my Canon Vixia HG20 and copied it to my Macbook.  However, when I imported a few clips into Premiere Pro and try to play it, it hangs.  It will play one or two clips and then it stops responding after that.
All in all, it's only about 2 minutes of footage that I've put into Premiere Pro.  I have no problems putting the clips into the Timeline but when I try to preview the clips (either in the source monitor or the program monitor windows), Premiere Pro gives me the little rainbow pinwheel and 20 minutes later, it's still spinning around.  I bought a 500Gb external hard drive to use as the scratch disk because I thought maybe it was a space issue having everything on my Macbook but I still get the pinwheel.  My only solution is to force quit the program.
I have a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro on OS X (10.5.6) with 4GB of memory, GeForce 8600M graphics card, and 200GB hard drive.  I've read about a of of the crashes on here but didn't really see anything similar to my situation.  Any ideas?  I spent a lot on Premiere Pro and am not willing to give up on it  quite yet.
    Please and thank you!

17 Mbps is still at the high end, but IMHO they should ultimately work.
Very often with AVCHD, you have to play a clip until it freezes, then wait.  If you monitor CPU usage during the waiting time, you'll see that it is quite active.  The process using the CPU is the ImporterProcessServer, which has to do some kind of magical stuff to the AVCHD clips in order for them to play and scrub in Pr.  Once the IPS is done, you should be able to scrub and play the clip just fine.
Usually you only have to do this once per clip, but sometimes more.  Sometimes the work that the IPS does carries over between Pr sessions, and sometimes it doesn't.
Smaller frame sizes and lower bit rates in AVCHD video helps make the editing experience in Pr much better.
My hope is that the upcoming 4.1 update will address some of these AVCHD issues.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 Crashes When Video Window Resizes

I have done a search for this topic and did not find any answers but I apologize if this topic has already been posted.
Whenever I try to resize a video window in Premiere CS4 by dragging a panel with the mouse the program crashes and quits. This is pretty much repeatable 100% of the time. I meet all system requirements and have the latest drivers for my video card. All CS4 apps have been updated..
Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 Sequence Error? (Timeline Window says No sequence, Program Window says no sequence)

Hey, I was trying to edit a bunch of .mpg files together, in a new project file, in a sequence 01, and all the primary editing windows came up, and while I can easily get the source window to recognize sequence 01, both the timeline and the program window say no sequence and dragging sequence 01 or any of the .mpg videos does nothing.
Since I can't even see the timeline of this I can't edit, so if someone could help me as soon as possible that would be great

Double click any sequence in the bin to open it.
This kind of basic functionality is pretty well covered in the Help file.  I recommend reading it all the way through before you use Premiere.

  • Premiere Pro CC Crashes when loading videos

Every time I load an MP4 video my PPCC crashes. According to the logs, it's this file where the fault occurs: devenum.dll. It happens the moment I either try to load a file by either click or drag-n-drop.
I'm running only 4GB RAM on Windows 7, and I have plenty of drive space.
Any idea what can be done?

Problem solved. I read another thread and realized that I should change my rendering method to Software. Thanks to the community.

  • Premiere pro cs4 crashes during splash

hi i recently installed premiere pro cs4 and when i try to open it it crashes when it gets to loading solidcomposite.aex. i tried removing each plug-in and it kept crashing on the next plug-in. however, when i removed asiowdm.dll the splash immediately ended and appeared to crash because nothing opened. i dont know what asiowdm.dll is but would anyone know why this file would cause problems and if there is anything i can do to fix it?
    THANKS!

    Mike,
When something works one day, but not the next, it is almost always a sign that something has changed. It could be a seemingly insignificant incident, such as MS Windows doing an automatic update, or it could be more significant, like loading new software, or adding/removing hardware.
Think about what has, or might have, gone one, from the time that PrP worked, and now. Check the schedule of your OS updates and see if any were installed in that time. Did you change any hardware? Did you install ANY new programs?
With the OS updates, drivers that worked perfectly before can be rendered obsolete. Check for any video and audio driver updates for your system. Also, check your current version of QuickTime and also your Flash player. I may be confusing the programs, but IIRC PSs installer relies heavily on the Flash player. Might be true for PrP too. Many folk had problems with PS installing, and either had a hosed Flash player, or needed to update what they had.
If Jeffs idea does not work, also look on the MS Windows site. There was an issue with an older version of MS Installer and PS (do not recall this problem with any other Adobe programs, but might have missed the articles). MS corrected the problem and a simple install of the new MSI took care of all issues. Do not recall if this was in XP, or Vista, but MS is pretty good at listing which OSs their fixes cover.
Others have had positive results by doing an install from the contents of the DVDs copied over to the hard drive (need some real estate there), and then running the installation from the Desktop. Some also needed to do the install from Safe Mode, but not all.
Again, if Ive mixed up exactly which Adobe program suffered from some of these, I apologize. BTW, what forum am I in? Ah, now I see, PrP CS4...
Good luck and please let us know how it goes,
    Hunt

  • Adobe premiere pro CS4 installation error

Hi guys so I have just Download adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and when the Installation comes Like, the Overall Progress something like that and This error appears like "Please Insert the Disc 1" -- ( It may be the exact text that I have encountered but still the same content) and I pressed ok but still it appear,
Though the disk is inside the CD drive
    Steps I tried:
I tried to restart the PC and restart the installation but it still appears
They say when Installing unplug your Internet connection or disconnect from the Internet but still appears
i hope someone can help me

I am confused... first you say you downloaded CS4 (which means to connect to an Internet server and download from there to your computer) and then you say you have a disc in the drive... which is it?
If you do have a disc, and you use Windows Explorer... does it read the disc contents?
I am not sure (I went from CS3 to CS5 and did not ever use CS4) but is that a DVD disc or a CD... and do you have a DVD drive?

my encoder for PP stopped working, so I uninstalled everything today, and I re-downloaded the Premiere Pro trial version - but when I install it , after about 3 min it says that it couldnt install Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 & Encore.
Did you have the full-paid version originally, or the "trial?"
If you had the full-paid version, why did you download the trial?
If you had the trial, it does stop working after a period of time - it is limited that way. If you had the trial, you can never install another trial on that machine. It's a one-time deal.
If you did have the trial, you will want to not only uninstall it, but also run the Adobe CS4 CleanScript a few times, before you attempt to install the full-paid version, or you WILL have problems.
Let us know exactly what you had, and what you wish to do now, and someone can help you.

  • Reinstalled Premiere Pro CS4 in windows 64 bit Vista and it worked, then today I am receiving error message 1

and it will not start.  Before the reinstallation I was having problems with my computer entering the power save mode.  I have reset the mode to high performance.  I was unable suddenly to view video on source or preview monitor.  Every move I made on Premiere Pro left me with a spinning circle and no choice but to shut down.  Now it will not start.

I've recently been doing some editing in premiere pro cs4 and when i'm trying to playback footage (Pictures or video) it will play fine for about 2 seconds then skip ahead a bit, it does this repetedly no matter what project i'm in. Does anyone know what could be causing this and what i could to to solve it?
    System Specs

Try my Premiere Pro 4.1 Benchmarking tool to see if your system is misconfigured or improperly tuned.  Email me the results and I will try to suggest changes to improve your configuration.
One easy change to your system would be to remove your sound card and just use the motherboard sound chip.  Never having heard of that card and knowing that in the past even big name cards have cause problems this might be the first suggestion.
