Premiere Pro CS4 crashes at startup every time
Running CS4 on Vista-32. Updated Premiere Pro to 4.01, but nothing I do can get the program started. Photoshop CS4, Illustrator CS4, et. al. all work fine. Everything works except Premiere Pro.
I'm completely flushed my system of codecs, and reinstalled them all. And of course, the Adobe crash reporter tool does work, but it prevents me from seeing Windows' own messages, so I don't have any idea what's preventing PP from loading.
Funny thing is that PP starts fine on a virtual machine (Vista 32 running under MS Virtual PC) on the same PC! So, I can run it in a Virtual PC window (sloooow), but not otherwise.
One more thing: I had exactly the same problem with PP CS3, but I never cared/needed it until now.
Help! I'm at the end of my rope.
Hey y'all,
First time Adobe Creative Suite user, and I bought the CS5 Master Collection today. Just like a crop duster pilot getting into an F22 fighter jet...wow.
I found that I had to start the Adobe Bridge program first before executing PP. Hope that helps.
(PP = Premiere Pro)
For the curious, here are some of my other trials and specifications:
1. Start PP (Quicktime installed) = crash after workspace shows up.
2. Start PP (Quicktime uninstalled) = splash screen only, no workspace.
3. Uninstall PP, reinstall and start PP (Quicktime uninstalled) = splash screen only, no workspace.
4. Start PP (Quicktime installed) = crash after workspace shows up
5. Start Bridge and After Effects CS5, then PP (Quicktime installed) = crashes while I'm editing
6. Start Bridge, then PP (Quicktime installed) = still working right now, but it'll probably crash due to hardware limitations
Hardware:
Toshiba Satellite P20
Pentium 4 HT
Windows XP Media Centre SP3 32-bit
2GB DDR RAM
5400rpm HD
And yes, I'm using the CS4 versions of Premiere Pro and After Effects, not the CS5 versions, because I only have a 32-bit OS. (The CS4 versions of these two programs are included in the CS5 Master Collection package).

Premiere pro CS4 crashes at startup
Hi,
My Premiere pro CS4 crashes upon startup every time i run it.
My system:
Vista Business 64bit
Intel Duo Core 2 2.6ghz
4gb ddr2 ram
NVidia GeForce 9600M GT
I have tried running the program as an administrator, removing all plugins, and reinstalling.
I've attached my crash repport, can anyone please help.
- MJI tried the QT thing with no joy and I was using the 7.5.5 build.
I've already listed my system, but here it is again: Asus Maximus Extreme, intel q6600, 4gigs DDR3 1600mhz, 8800 gtx oc, 3x750gigs.
Deficient? Hardly since my 2.2 duelcore, 3gigs ddr2 geforce 8600m gt laptop ran it fine.
As to hardware Premiere pro CS4 is the only program my rig has an issue with After Effects CS4 ect works fine as does Premiere pro 2, but thats useless as I use AVCHD files.
I'm not sure what you mean by assets (my rig doesn't have any savings )
Project/Sequence settings I don't have any because I've just installed cs4 on this system.
Operator Error? Click on an icon Premiere pro CS4 loads without the welcome box it just bings when you try to use it. Can't see how it could be me, but I'd love to admit it was if i could get it working. -
Premiere Pro CS4 Crashes on startup
Hey All.
Iv been using premiere pro cs4 on a windows XP based machine for a while but i decided to upgrade to a new windows 7 and iv been having problems with Premiere pro.
All my other programs work fine from the CS4 Production Premuim Package (well the ones i tried) its just premiere pro.
Most of the time it crashes on startup but after trying 5 or 6 times i can get in and use it. but the next time i come to use it, it crashes another handfull of times before it lets me in,
One of the points i managed to find before it crashed a few times was "LOADING aaf.prm", That seems to be where its frozen most.
Any help would be much apreciated.
ThanksWhen you right click, select Properties at the bottom of the popup window
Another window will popup, where you may select the Compatibility tab -
Premiere Pro CS4 crashes on startup after installation (Win XP x64)
Hello,
I've had no such luck getting PP working on Win XP x64, I've installed everything else and checked to make sure its working correctly from the master collection, but PP is giving me a hard time. After reading much of the other discussion on this problem, I have yet to find a solution that works for me, things I've tried thus far:
- Re-installing
- Re-installed fonts etc.
- Switched user accounts
- Removed Quicktime
None of these have worked, Adobe's error reporting tool is garbage I cant even read the crash report data, so I'm stuck......anyone have any good ideas throw them up here, otherwise its time to get angry with tech support....Sorry to bump a dead thread, but I fixed OP's problem on my computer after doing pretty much all he had done. I signed up for anyone else that might be looking for a solution to this problem.
Browse to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS4"
Find "Adobe Premiere Pro.exe" and right click it and click on "Properties".
Go to the "Compatability" tab and check "Run this program in compatability mode for:" and select "Windows XP" in the drop down list. If you arent on an administrative acount, you may have to switch to it and select "Allow non-admins to run this prog". I tried this after reinstalling, changing the path, removing any registry entry I could find with "premiere" in it, and even trying to use a pirated version. Before you go pointing fingers about that, I get the entire adobe production and design suite for free thanks to my school, IUPUI (http://uitsnews.iu.edu/2008/12/10/new-agreement-makes-adobe-software-available-on-iuware/) and I needed it for an assignment. Protip, adobe: The pirated version actually launched correctly once, but after a system restart, crashed on start up like before. Just something to think about.
Heres a launch shot + system specs for a refrence:

Premiere Pro CS4 crashing in startup
I have Premiere Pro CS4 on a Dell Precision m6400. When I start up and try to start new project when not on network, it crashes. Even though I go in and change all file information to C: drive. The only message I am receiving is "Sorry a serious error has occurred that requires ...to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project." If there is a crash report I don't know where to find it. PrePro works on network. I just need to know what to fix so that I can work from home. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Is your My Documents folder mapped to a network drive?
As Craig mentions, running PrPro on a network can be problematic. Much will depend on exactly the configuration of the network.
Good luck,

Premiere Pro CS4 crash on startup
First off, I am running a Windows XP SP3 machine with 3GB of RAM, the problem that I am running into is whenever I try to start Adobe Premiere Pro it gets to the point where it is loading PlayerMediaCore.prm and then stops (crashes), the loading window goes away and I don't even get an error message. I have gone through and looked for any updates to it that I may not have had and installed them, and have attempted a reboot (twice) in case of memory problems, however the problem continues to happen.
Any ideas on how to fix it?You may have a problem with QUICKTIME. I don´t want to go in to all the details right now (will later if needed). I was running an older version of quicktime 5.02 and the VERY short story is, that i solved the problem by uninstalling that old quicktime and repacing it with at new 7.xxx
Man i´ve been working hard to solve this problem. really hope more of you can bennefit from this (simple) soloution. -

Premier pro crashes on startup every time
Premier Pro CC 2014 crashes on startup every time. Operating system is OSX Yosemite 10.10. However, the problem begane with previous OS versions and the update did not fix the issue. CC is up to date as version 8.1.0. I've verified and repaired my startup disk as well and there are no issues with my machine. I am using:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)
2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
I have a school project coming up and really need my CC to be working.
Thank you so much for the help,
William DurlandThe first thing I suggest is renaming three Premiere Pro folders at the following paths:
/Users/<username>/Documents/Adobe
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe -
When i editing in the piano roll windows, after 10 at 20 editing steps my logic pro 9 crashed down. Every time. Is this a bug?
Maybe find a local who can translate for you. I don't know what to tell you for dealing in another country for service on your computer.
I can offer you something you can do if you want to give it a try. You'll need a backup of your data in your Home folder because you need to erase the drive. You'll also need a solid, preferably fast, internet connection.
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 crashes
My Premiere Pro CS4 crashes while It loads the workspace and then automatically close.
I had this problem before and there was a solution but i saved it as my favourites and it no longer exist because of the new forums.
Damn AdobeI do not know the older article, but THIS ONE might give you tips on gathering "clues," as to what is going on, when PrPro shuts down.
You say that all of your drivers are updated - double-check, as this is a very common cause.
Good luck,

Premiere Pro CC quits on open every time - Mavericks?
Hi,
Since updating to Maverikcs Premiere Pro CC unexpecdedly quits instantly, every time I open it. I've been forced to install CS6 again which runs okay, but I need to open a few projects that we're saved as newer CC files.
I have tried re-installing, restarting etc... I know I made a rookie error updgrading to Mavericks before it had been tested but does anyone know of a solution?
Thanks very much!Go to http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere and, in the area just under Ask a Question, type in
mavericks
You may now read all the previous discussions this subject... be sure to click the See More Results at the bottom of the initial, short list if the initial list does not answer your question
I am Windows so did not bookmark the message, but at least one message thread has a possible solution -

The first time I got this, I decided to fill out the crash report and send it in, but not since.
Please let me know if there's any other information I can provide that will help find a cause for this problem.

Premiere Pro CC Crashes on startup
Hi, I'm using a Mac OS X 10.9.2, and premiere pro keeps crashing every time I try to start up today. The other creative cloud programs all work, just premiere pro. There are no updates as far as I can tell. I've tried restarting. Any suggestions?
johnEight,
Your Prefs to the trash worked here.. I though i had done that, but i guess i didn't trash all the Adobe Prefs, only the Premiere Pro ones.
There must be a hidden pref in ther somewhere.. at this point, It doesn't matter, Adobe PPro CC works. now i'll check to see if my CS6 works.
As a side, i didn't remove all the files from the Application Support. That one woories me, as those files are supposed to be dependent ont he user settings, (like PRefs) those are what the program needs to run. I guess if you're reistalling at this point, it doesn't hurt. I just didn't want to reset everything.. But i guess i may have anyway by thrashing all the prefs.. Uh boy..
Thanks anyway.. -
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 crashes on load with project
When I try to load my CS4 projects the application crashes with the error:
"Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project."
I have my hard drive partitioned: C drive for my OS; D drive for my data; and I also have an external hard drive which is H. I installed Adobe Premiere on my D drive and saved all the my project files and data on my external drive H. A couple weeks ago I got a virus and I wiped out my C drive. So, I reinstalled Windows XP. After reinstalling XP and getting my machine back up and running I removed Premiere Pro CS4 from my D drive and installed it on my C:drive. I connected my external drive to my computer and Windows assigned the drive letter F to my external. I launched my project file and it said it could not find my data and it crashed with the above message. I opened my project file in a text editor and I saw that file path was H:\... for all my data so I reassigned the drive back to H hoping that was the reason for the crash. Much to my chagrin it was not as I try opening the project file now and it finds all the files but it still crashes. I'm all out of ideas at this point. Is there a log file that I can look at to try to troubleshoot this any further? Has anyone seen this happen before? Should I reinstall Adobe Premiere Pro? I am under a time crunch here as I need to open this project and make some edits.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
-JeffJeff,
The Page File is MS Windows' "virtual memory." It gets activity, when physical RAM is not available. Especially with video editing, this happens a lot. It can be set via Control>Panel>System. Windows can either dynamically create and size the file, as is necessary, or it can be set to provide the necessary size statically - always the same, and is *usually* set to ~ 2.5x the physical RAM.
With one physical HDD, that is partitioned, you have about 4-5 operations going on at the same time, and your I/O system is basically telling the heads of your HDD to be in different places/platters at this same time. Unfortunately, this is impossible, and one gets system hangs, sluggish performance, crashes or worse.
There are several good threads on suggested HDD setups for NLE work on this forum. I'd step back a level, so you get all Premiere forums, and search for some of these articles. There are a lot of worthwhile suggestions for number, type, connection and configuration of HDD's.
Good luck,
Hunt
