Premiere Pro CS4 does not handle AVCHD Files well.

Loaded the master collection of CS4 when it first came out.  I had purchased CS4 for the AVCHD file format.  I had no problems using Premiere Pro until I ugraded to version 4.0.1 in March of this year then all AVCHD file selections dissappeared.  Hence, I could not create new AVCHD projects and the existing projects did not fuction properly.  I have been through a series of uninstalls (and deactivations) and reinstalls.  Reinstalls did not work.   Had to delete by renaming the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\7e74552a59eaf9fafd13f90894ac9bd to get the reinstall to work.  I have also used Windows Install Clean Up to remove all Adobe CS4 files that the windows "Add or Rmove Programs" did not remove.  When I did get the reinstall to work, Premiere Pro would work for awhile then became slow to the point the project became unusable.  Tried the all upgrades again and again the selection of AVCHD files dissappeared.  I do not need the AVCHD Intra capability.  The last uninstall I just uninstalled Premiere.  I could not reinstall Premiere until I uninstalled the entire master collection than the reinstall of just Premiere succeeded.  Premiere was totally unusuable.
Has anyone had similiar issues with Premiere Pro and AVCHD files and were you able to resolve the problem?  I am considering removing all Adobe products, including past versions and trying the reinstall again, or create another profile and install just the Adobe products, or - the last resort - reformating my hard drive and starting over again.   I would like to get Premiere Pro working again properly before reformating.
Previous versions of Adobe have worked with no problems.

You might do a "this forum" search at http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/premierepro_current to check on the revert to trial problem
I have CS5 so read there, and don't REMEMBER any such complaints
You do know that CS5 is 64bit only... so you will need to get Win7 64bit... and have a 64bit motherboard?

  • Premiere Pro CS4 does not import EX1 files longer than 1 hour

I had to record a long speech and used a Sony XDCAM HD EX1 camera with a 32 Gb and a 16 Gb SXS cards. The speaker paused after 1h 26 min. I stopped the recording and waited until the green light that allows recording the segment came on. Later I recored smaller segments.
I copied all the recorded files to the PC hard disk ( Intel Quad Core 2.4 Ghz with 3.25 GB RAM with XP Proofessional SP3).
I used Sony Clip browser to watch the clips and all of them were perfect. Then I opened premiere Pro CS4 4.21 and I wanted to import this 27 GB file. In the media browser appeared only one mp4 file. All the short ones where imported normally but the big one freezed premiere and the only way to close premiere was with the windows task manager.
I checked again in the Sony XDCAM clip browser version 2.6 and you can see it perfectly. There was a detail, though: in the lower part of the preview window I saw 6 marks. When I checked the file in the disk, I found that the 27 Gb file was separated in 7 parts. Each of them was 3.51 Gb and the last one 2.5 Gb. That means that the file was cut in pieces that were less than 4Gb supposed max file lenght.
I tried many ways to import and no result. The I used the "export " of the sony clip browser. There is one choice that is "MXF for XDCAM HD". When I chose this item another panel appeared and showed a 1440 X 180 59.94i 25Mbps choice. I took it and after some time it created the 27 Gb file that I could import it normally with 4 audio tracks. But there is a drawback a "media concept" logo appeared to remeber to "buy" the program.
Anyhow, the question is: How can I import to Premiere CS4 a MP4 file created by a Sony EX1 HD camera whose lenght is more that 1 hour long ?
    Thanks
    Wolfgang

I think  is the contrary because the clip browser copies all the foleders needed. I got this opinion from another forum that copies into Final Cut:
"My workflow is to create a hard drive folder for the project, then use Clip Browser to import the clips from the card. I review the clips, labelling them, adding logging notes, setting the status and putting in essence marks as needed (the number of characters available for the essence mark description is fairly limited). I then open FCP, create and save a new project then call up XDCAM Transfer. I select the project folder and it will pull in all the clips. I then filter for OK status, occasionally create subclips then import. The clips come over to the bin, with their names and with the essence marks converted to markers. Obviously there are backups taken - I've not mentioned them."

  • Premiere Pro CC does not open MOD files correctly

    Hi,
I just started using the Adobe Creative Cloud as a trial, in particular the Premiere Pro CC software, since it might be relevant, I am working on a mac (completely updated as of yesterday).
I have a JVC GZ-MG505 camcorder. This device saves the video files on an internal HDD in a file format called MOD. From what I have been able to see when searching on the web, this should be nothing more than a MPEG-2 file.
So, I tried importing some video files into Premiere Pro and to my surprise, I noticed that a whole strip on the right hand side of the image is missing. The original is recorded in a widescreen (16:9) format with 720x576 pixels and Premiere Pro gives me a file with 540x576 pixels. I have tried using the Interpret Footage to change this, but it doesn't let me change the number of pixels. I also tried opening the files in Adobe Media Encoder and I have exactly the same results as in Premiere Pro. However, opening the files in VLC or mPlayer they come out exactly as expected with all the pixels there. Has anyone come accross this problem before or can anyone help me with solving this?
I could try reencoding the files with VLC, but the output file is much smaller than the input file, so I am afraid I am loosing some definition.
So, just to restate my problem, the adobe products open my MOD files without complaining, but for some reason they loose a strip 180 pixels wide on the right hand side of the image.
    Cheers

Premiere Pro CC does not open MOD files correctly
That is correct: there is a bug in CC. In CS6 they work correctly.
    Please file a bug report.

On the screen at the top left the video was what i wanted, however the top left screen was not exported, what i ended up getting was a the same video turned around.
Can anyone give me instructions or something on how to save the effects you made onto a sequence. this is the first time ive used PPro. All i need to know is how to make the video that i import from my phone have normal video dimensions (no black bars) and be turned the right way around,  and then how to export it. please help.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 does not recognize USB PnP Sound device connected  to iMac OSX even when activated in Audio MIDI setup. The iMac(i-7 processor,16 GB)   is working with this USB device without any problem

Premiere Pro CS6 does not recognize the USB PnP Sound device in order to produce a commentary sound track. The USB device has been activated on the iMac OSX by using the Audio-MIDI-setup and is working correctly with the iMac. When opening > presets >audio hardware I can only select between >standard >out  integrated > digital input integrated >microphone integrated. USB PnP is not indicated at this place.
With the built-in microphone of the iMac I can produce the commentary sound track, but I would prefer a stand alone version for better quality.
Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Annemarie!

I'm using a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 (which has a microphone on the side). I have several other devices plugged into separate USB slots: a keyboard, a mouse, my iPhone, and a Roland keyboard midi controller.
I've considered that maybe the webcam/mic combo is the culprit. If USB doesn't work at a constant speed, that could very well be causing the issue! The sound begins to lag badly sometimes when it's working properly, so that there's a multisecond delay between speaking and hearing my voice repeated back over the mic which is another sign that something is wrong. I've also caught it making a strange electronic sound during its "hang" time once it stops taking sound input correctly.
Maybe I should try to use line-in and forgo USB altogether then. I think I'd need a preamp and some sort of converter for that since the Mac Mini lacks a powered mic jack. I'm only a newbie musician so I've never set up such a system but it might be a better solution in the long run.
I'll check to see if it hangs before or after my computer enters suspend mode, that's a good suggestion too. Thank you for your help!

  • Premiere Pro CS4 - Problems with mpeg2 export file

    Hello!
I shoud get export a one videofile (mpeg2 D-10, 4:2:2) with 4 audio channels (two stereo track). Audio must be .wav and PCM. The end result shoud be on channel 1 and 2, which has music, effects and narration. Channels 3 and 4, everything else, but without narration. (tv company wants to change narration language).
The problem is that Premiere Pro cs4 connects two separate stereo tracks  to one stereo track when I export mpeg2 file. Another problem is that Premiere Pro does not accept PCM audio if  I have any multiplexing setting selected. If I select none multiplexing, audio is seperate from the video file.
I have now about 150 test clips with different settings, nothing works...So, please help me! What shoud I do? Is this possible with Premiere Pro CS4 and Adobe Media Encoder? If so, how it can be done?

I don't believe the end result is possible with Premiere Pro alone. You'll have to export out am .m2v file, and two separate .wav files.  Then look to other tools to mux them together.

  • Can't Uninstall Premiere Pro CS4 from Trial-Missing Uninstall file

I was using the Premiere Pro CS4 (CS5 XP compatibility pack) as a free trial on my Windows XP computer. Since my trial period is over, I want to uninstall it. Unfortunately, something seems to be wrong. When I click on "Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4, 32-bit support for CS5" in my Add or Remove programs list, it says "An error has occured while trying to remove Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4, 32-bit support for CS5. It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4, 32-bit support for CS5 from the program list?"
I click No, because going into my Programs Folder, I see that nothing has been removed. I tried using the Clean Up script, choosing CS4 and later CS5, but the clean up program's box said no sessions were found.
After, I looked in the Adobe Premiere folder itself for an uninstall program, but found none.
I cannot even start the program anymore. Starting it, a dialogue box pops up saying
Licensing for this product has stopped working.
This product has encountered a problem which requires that you restart your computer before it can be launched.
If you continue to see this message after restarting your computer, please contact either your IT administrator or Adobe technical support for help, and mention the error code shown at the bottom of the screen.
    Error: 3
As far as I can tell, technical support doesn't come with a free trial, and my trial is expired anyway.
How can I get this program off of my computer now that I cannot use it?

    =========
It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4, 32-bit support for CS5 from the program list?"I click No, because going into my Programs Folder, I see that nothing has been removed
    ===========
This is the part I suggested you click YES...instead of NO... to see if removing the support then allows you to remove the whole program.. kinda a 2 step process...dont know if it will work or not.
You can call adobe support and explain the problem and they might be able to walk you through some process that works okay.. I would try that even though it may take some time to go through it.
I don't see how trying to reinstall could hurt you but I kinda doubt it will work...but why not try it??
Sorry, but I can't think of anything else ... except messing around with the "install / remove " programs stuff as mentioned above...

  • Premiere Pro CC will not import .mov files

Having issues with Premiere Pro CC, I cannot import .MOV files created with my Canon 6D.
If I try to import the files, I get a very generic "File format not supported" error msg.
This is a new install of Premiere CC on a new computer. I was able to import them using Premiere Pro CC on the old computer.
Quicktime will play these files fine on my new computer.
Premiere Pro CS6 will import these files on the new computer.
Premiere Pro CC would open them fine on my old computer.
I'm not even sure where to start. Any help would be appreciated.
    Here are my system details:
    OSX 10.9.3
    new Mac Pro
    3Ghz 8-Core Xeon E5
    64 GB RAM
Files are on external G-Tech Thunderbolt drive.

That was I was thinking at first, but if Premiere CS6 (installed on the same computer) imports and plays them, they must be on the system, no?
I really do not want to transcode. I have an existing project that uses the videos and the project on the new system will not import them or re-link to the videos. Really trying to get away from having to re-create the project and re-edit.
    Thanks!

  • Premiere Pro CC does not embed 708 captions in QT

Despite the fact that all of the online videos make it seem like exporting embedded closed captions is a breeze, it is not. After much experimentation I have found out there is no way to export 708 captions embedded into a QT file. I have been working with closed captions for a long time, and I am very familiar with the different pitfalls of closed captions. Why Adobe would chose to embed 608 captions only in an HD file is beyond me. To be excepted by broadcasters the captions must be 708 VANC Captions with the 608 alternative. Every time I get a file out of MACCaption this is what is included. I have tried to import those files into premiere pro CC and it does not see the captions.
I have tried creating the Sidecar file as a .mcc file, and it seems to be correct. Unfortunately there is no way to embed this into a QT file.
    Kevin

You are correct that 708 captions cannot be embedded in QuickTime files; they can be embedded in MXF OP1a outputs or written to sidecars. This is covered, albeit indirectly, at the bottom of this help page.
Support for closed captions is a work-in-progress. CC7.0 provided support for CEA-608 and Teletext; support for CEA-708 was added in either 7.0.1 or 7.1. Of course, "support" is a loose concept, and work remains to be done on particular aspects of what exactly can be imported, how captions can be exported, and workflows for editing captions in a project. You can help us set priorities by submitting feature requests on what you think are the greatest needs.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC does not open project - just hangs, no error message

I've just finished editing a project in PP CC, saved it, then tried to reopen it and the program shows a blank page, then hangs.  I get no error message.
The project is based off a PP 5.5 timeline.  It updates fine (and in fact I can open and convert the original timeline with no problem).  However, once I close the new version and try to reopen, this symptom occurs.
I have updated my Creative Cloud software and it shows the Premiere Pro is up to date.
My computer is an ASUS laptop running Windows 8.1 Pro
    i5 processor
    8GB RAM
    NVidea Geforce 610M+2GB graphics card
Need help as I have to have this project output and uploaded by 8am tomorrow.

This is a follow up to my original post and follow up.  I've now seen this issue several more times and realize it was not an issue with my USB drive.  It is an issue with the Dynamic Linking in Premiere.  I consider this a MAJOR BUG, so please note what I've found if you have an issue with archiving or opening projects done with previous versions of PP.
The issue I've found is that Premiere seems to lock up trying to find dead media links.  If you've archived a project or moved files from their original position, Premiere CC cannot seem to find them.  The result is not a system hang up, but just a blank screen.  In some cases, after leaving it for a couple hours it found the media and continued.
I've had a similar issue when trying to link 'dead' media with the actual files.  The system goes off into neverland.
The work around I've found is to import the older jobs into a new Premiere CC project.  At that point, replace any dead links (do NOT try and find the media as you'll be lost in hangupville) by importing the media again and replacing the clip in the sequence with the new import from the bin.  Once all your media is 'live', remove any unused media from the project and confirm there are no 'dead' links (you can look at the media icon and notice a ? if they are not dynamically linked properly).  Manually clear any remaining unlinked media.  Save the project.
I have started to use Project Manager to archive all Premiere projects when moving them from one server to another.
This is a total pain in the @ss, and nothing I've seen before Creative Cloud.  I hope that Adobe gets this resolved or I may consider dropping my subscriptions completely.  That is a huge investment, but this type of issue is too much trouble to manage for a small production company.
I welcome any other thoughts, fixes, or comments.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro hungs, does not listen to commands / Mac

I subscribe Adobe premiere pro for almost half a year and till now it was working perfectly. But for one week it has completely stopped reacting on any commands. I click "play" but it does not play, it hungs all the time. I tried to restart both Mac and programme but still Premiere is not working. Please anyone had this problem before and know how to fix it?
    Thank you!

My normal use of Premiere Pro CC involves importing footage shot using either my Canon EOS5D Ml iii or my Panasonic FZ200. I import the footage using Media Browser.  When I create a new project it always used to display the Media Browser screen on a second monitor.  It also showed in the project settings that the renderer was Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA).
Since updating to CC2014 it is not uncommon for the second monitor to be inactive and the renderer to appear as Mercury Playback Engine Software only.
When I queried this with Adobe support they first of all took control of my PC and updated the graphics driver.  This did not seem to fix the issue which they put down to my graphics card not being on the Adobe list of supported AMD and NVIDIA products.
I also spoke to the NVIDA support people and they confirmed this diagnosis.
Since then the circumstances vary.  Sometimes the second monitor appears and the Mercury Engine Accelerator (CUDA) is active and sometimes not.  I also never had the problem until I upgraded to CC2014.
I can live with this problem but would prefer if it wasn't there and I was running a supported graphics card.
My real question is which of the huge list of supported products would be best.  The price range is vast and I do not want to overkill the problem by installing a card with features I will never need.
I do not play any computer games and am only really concerned with Premiere Pro CC, After Effects CC and Photoshop CC.
My use of effects in Premiere is limited although I do play around with Colour Correction and Sharping.  I am also exploring the use of Lumetri.
My hope is advise from someone who has experience or knowledge of upgrading to a supported card.
Thank in advance and for the guidance from previous responders.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 Will Not Import Any Files

I connected my Motorola DVR to my PC (Windows XP SP2)  with HD content passing through a Firewire 1394 connection.  I opened a new Premiere Pro CS3 (Master Collection) file and accidentally selected capture.  The computer immediately went to blue screen.  After rebooting I cannot import any files into new or old Premiere Pro projects.  It appears I compromised the software when I accidentally hit the capture button.  Encore works fine so I am assuming the problem is only with Premiere Pro.  Is there any way of reinstalling only Premiere Pro from the CS3 Master Collection disc set without having to reinstall the entire suite of programs?

You may be better off installing the whole suite again.

  • Priemere Pro CS4 will not save , project file is very large

I have a recent project (music videos) that was started in CS4 and upgraded to CS5. ( OS = Windows 7 x64)  Things were great but then I hit a wall, at about 8 sequences it would take 1/2 an hour to save.  I split up the project by making copies of the project file, renaming it and then deleting selected sequences from various copies of the project thus limiting it to 4 or 5 sequences per copy.  This seemed to help for a few saves but it got worse.   Now I can no longer save any copy of the project using "Save", "Save As" or "Save Copy As".  I deleted the preferences file as explained in another thread but it didn't help.  I deleted my renderd files but it didn't help.  The entire project has become unworkable and useless.  I cannot remove sequences from the work area, I cannot save changes.  Attempting either locks up Priemere.  Also, as the problem got worse the size of the project file doubled even though the project had become smaller.
I have other projects started in CS4 and upgraded to CS5 but not opened and saved anywhere near as much as this one and not saved as many times at it took this one to fail.  I have no projects created in CS5 that have been used enough to see if this behaviour presists.
Does anyone have any clue how to save this project?
    Thanx,
    Mel

    Mel,
If you have not done so yet, take a look at this THREAD.
