Premiere Pro CS5.5 Audio Waveform Issue

I've recorded several interviews with my Canon 5D MKII and Zoom H4N. I imported both files into the timeline but the audio from the Zoom H4N doen't have an audio waveform until I zoom into the timeline. I recorded a screen capture but my mic wasn't plugged all the way in so theirs no audio. If anyone has ever come across this issue or knows how to fix it please shoot me a message.
Link to the screen capture.

I had to clean out the Media Cache to get the audio wave form working correctly for the Zoom H4N audio. I don't think this problem is exclusive to the H4N but it is interresting knowing where the error came from.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Playback and Performance Issues

I upgraded (2) separate editing work stations to CS5 from CS4 about a month ago. I moved from 4 to 5 to try and get rid of some problems which both work stations were encountering.
The problems since the upgrade are similiar: playback from timeline has intermittent audio drop out and video going to black during playback, (new one)-video locked up but audio kept playing-system hung and had to be rebooted.
Also, when clicking around on the timeline or scrubbing the timeline, Premiere crashes.
This type of performance on playout or timeline usage is consistent on both machines which have indentical setups and builds. None of this happens all the time but happens enough to causes problems with workflow. We edit on the work stations, dub files to playback system for air, and use a shared server to move files back and forth as needed but files are always stored locally instead of using straight from server.
    These machines are:
    Premiere Pro CS5.02
OS  WIndows 7 Pro 64 bit
    12 GB Ram, DDR3-1333 (6-2GB modules)
CPU Intel Xeon Quad Core [email protected] GHZ, 2 processors, 8 MB Cache

Nvidia GE Force 9800 GT Graphics card, DUAL DVI, 1 GB
REaltek High Def Audio, Drivers 6.0.1.5953

I have all of my software installed on C: (309 GB of 500 GB avail)
I have all of my videos files stored on D: (Raid Storage with 2.16 TB of 3 TB avail)
The only changes I've made since installing CS5 would be to change the auto save from 20 minutes to 60 minutes. Don't know if an auto save would cause an issue on playback as I've noted above.
I'm not a computer whiz by any stretch of the imagination but I can follow directions if given for testing/eval.

Do the PPBM5 Benchmark and send the results to me by PM, in addition to sending the results to Bill as indicated. I'll have a look at what might be going on here.

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 -very strange issue with the color tones and Preview-

I deal with a very strange and not usual problem in Premiere Pro CS5.5 (also the version CS5). What I try to do is just a simple color correction. The problem occurs when I try to use Three Way Color Corrector but it happens with Fast Color Corrector also.
When applying the Three-Way Color Correction and without changing anything else (just applying), can be seen in the preview of the soft how sudden changes in color tones. For example, the gray tone becomes a little more green, but also can be seen very easy a change in the other color tones too. In fact even RGB Parade show the same thing. This is very, very strange and unacceptable and saw that it happens when trying to use Colorista II too.
I tried the same thing in Sony Vegas Pro 11 and I downloaded the trial version of Edius 6 to convince me if the same thing happens. Not! In Sony Vegas and Edius everything is working correctly, I have not experienced these problems in the preview's of this 2 others softs.
This issue is very annoying because every possible color correction is based on what we see in the preview and if in this preview the tones are seen altered realize that can not make a decent color correction. So what happens here?!? I uploaded a small video demonstration to see very clearly about what I'm talking. You can see in the next link: http://vimeo.com/35317616

Yes Jim, you're right. No changes in the scopes when one just apply RGB Curves, Fast Color Corrector, RGB Color Corrector  or the Three way Color Corrector (last three thanks to the new update 6.03). I already wrote that Adobe team has been able to fix this bug for some of the tools/effects.
But Brightness&Contrast? Change Color? Color Balance? Levels? MBLooks? Twixtor? Colorista II? Does it seem normally that all scopes or just one of them jump when you just apply one of these effects/tools? Not to say that in some situations even the tones change (especially in shadows&midtones).
You say this is something "very minimal". I say it is not so. I don't find normally to make a very detalied CC with Three way Color Corrector and then when applying Colorista/MBLooks, for example, the scopes jump and inclusively some tones may be influenced. And I left clear examples in this topic where you can see that this is possible. I don't know if this is "very minimal" or not, but is really so impossible to edit in Premiere without this "very minimal" issue?!? How can it be possible in other softs (Edius, Media Composer, Vegas Pro) and in Premiere not?!?
One more thing: many of us use intermediate codecs in the editing process. Do you find normally that a AVCHD video have the lumninance at approximately 110IRE, to export it directly to Cineform and then import it in Premiere, and the waveform shows the luminance at 100IRE?!? How is this possible?!? So the AVCHD video have a 110IRE luminance, you convert this video to Cineform without changing anything, and then this Cineform video have the luminance at 100IRE?!? And anyone can verify this example.
So, how can one trust in this soft?!?

  • Premiere Pro CS5 skipping audio error

    Anyone come across this:
When trying to edit an AIFF audio file in the Premiere Pro timeline, the audio skips when playing back,
meaning that after a few seconds it just skips several seconds and starts playing a different part further on in the same AIFF...
The indicator bar does not visually "skip": just moves on steady as it should.
    Related to this:
I have a project that was converted from After Effects CS4 to CS5, that shows the following strange behaviour in CS5:
The comps contain layers that consist of AIFF audio files. When doing an audio preview (.) or a RAM preview, the audio does not play the part of the AIFF file that, according to the time-code, it should play. It starts where it should, but then suddenly it skips a few seconds to another part of the AIFF. All that while the red indicator bar suggests it is still playing lineair as it should (the red line does not "skip" to another point.
This leaves me with an unworkable situation, as it is quite unpredictable which part of the audio will play right...
As far as i can tell this behaviour only happens with a converted project (CS4 > CS5) in After Effects.
But when I started a new project in Premiere Pro I got the same skipping audio with a totally new project!
Converted back to CS4 for now.

    Mark,
Your observations are probably spot on. I cannot only comment through PrPro 2.0, so changes could certainly have occurred. I do know that CS4 changed a lot, regarding Audio.
In my CS2 Production Studio version, I have had up to 22 Timelines/Sequences and most have had from 6 to 24 Audio Tracks, with a DD 5.1 SS Master Track. I have had zero issues with any Audio dropouts. Now, I have had issues with Playback stopping and at totally random spots, and this has happened with very simple to very complex Sequences, and different spots. Sometimes, this has happened with a fresh boot and Project load, but also after many hours of editing. These halts come and go. I've had them happen a dozen times in a row, only to then disappear in that editing session. I've had sessions that lasted for days, with not one, only to fire up the program, and get 3 halts in a row. That has been my only, even moderately similar experience.
Wish I could comment on later versions, but I cannot.
Thanks for your observations and for reporting,
    Hunt

  • Why do Encore CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5 have intermittant Sync issues?

I am noticing that Encore CS5 is "buggy" regarding sync issues with material edited by Womble and Corel Video Studio and I am guessing other programs as well?
In high definition I take AVCHD and  edit in Corel Video Studio.  If I leave the project as one single 42 minute segment and import this asset into Encore CS5, more often than not there are bad sync issues.  To get around this I have to divide the 42 minute project into approximately 6 smaller ones- Each smaller asset ends where I had done the editing.  Encore does not have any problems now with these 6 smaller assets.
In standard definition I edit in Womble and export as a MPEG2 Program.  Sometimes Encore has a problem with the asset sync and sometimes it does not.  (I am guessing about 20% of my assets end up with a problem).  The same asset if brought into TMP or brought back into Womble does not have any sync issue.  If brought into Premiere Pro CS5 it will exhibit the same behavior as Encore- If Encore has a sync problem, so will Premiere Pro.  So to get around this I then have to go back to the original womble file and break it up into smaller pieces, at every edit point I cut and export the smaller file just after the end of the transition I applied.  With a 6 hour project I may end up with dozens of small files to get around this problem- not very efficient.
Any ideas how to fix this or why Encore is so buggy?  Would moving the original assets around in Womble- example taking something that was at the end of the timeline and then moving it to the beginning cause these issues for Encore?   Or is there some other cause?
    Encore CS5
    Premiere Pro CS5
    Windows 7 64 BIT
    Quad core
    2.4 GHZ clock speed
    6GB memory
150 GB free space on drive
    NVIDIA GEFORCE 8500 card

I've used VideoReDo in the past, which I believe has some similar strategies to Womble.  I found when I tested streams, that there were often problems in the source streams, and that the fix was not 100 percent.
You may also find such files that are not 100 percent the same length video to audio.
In any event, the possibility other than Encore being buggy is that the files you are bringing in have problems when Encore tries to validate them.  I'm not saying Encore doesn't have its problems, but clean mpeg files do not have sync issues ordinarily.
For some scenarios, I like your workflow (edit mpeg files in a frame accurate mpeg editor that is not retranscoding the whole file), but the results are often not consistent.
You don't say, and I would certainly look at, the nature of the audio stream you are using.  I can not tell you what the problems are, but some streams just do not edit well, even though they may play back okay in some players, but still have issues in Encore and/or Premiere.

  • Why does Premiere Pro CS5 process audio source before exporting clip in AME CS5?

Hello everyone, my first post here. I am currently trying out the trial CS5 Master Collection on my MacBook Pro. I've been using Premiere Pro CS5 to put together family videos. I select a certain portion of a sequence and queue it for export in Media Encoder CS5 in the format H.264 for iPod with video and audio.
Now in AME I have a queue list of about 5 clips from the sequence. But when I hit the Start Queue button, the bottom left of the progress bar states "Adobe Premiere Pro processing audio source from [then file name]"  for all 5 clips from the sequence then creates the first output file.
Then it moves to encode the second and again states "Adobe Premiere Pro processing audio source from [then file name]"  for all 5 clips of mt sequence then spits out only the second output file.
This continues for the remaining 3 output files. The total sequence length is ~32 minutes with transitions and it takes about 35 minutes to export which is all consumed by the process audio source of the 5 clips in my sequence for 5 separate times.
Is there a certain reason why Media Encoder or Premiere Pro does this process of audio source? Is this process necessary or needed? I experimented with choosing different output formats but the results are the same. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Now that's pretty good follow-up to your first post, and quickly too! Nice detective work.
As you have found, there is basically a Render/Replace operation going on in PrPro, to get the material in the correct form for AME.
Thank you for reporting, as it saved me, and others, from basically saying what you said.
Good luck, and sorry that you beat us to the punch.

  • Premiere Pro CC + Multichannel Audio Export issues?

Currently I need to deliver 6 Channels of 5.1 audio mixed needs to be paralled with film and add Closed Caption and export as QT (Pro Res 422(HQ) with 6 Channels of Audio).
When I Try to export from Premiere Pro CC, I was asked combine 1+2, 3+4, 5+6 and when I export get 7 Channels with 3 stereo pairs.
Is it not possible to export 6 Channels only export as individual tracks along with Video in a QuickTime Export. Also have option only to select 5 or 7 Channels rather than my 6 channels why?
    Attached screenshot for reference.

I know this thread is old but I figured I'd answer anyway if anyone comes across this post with the same question.
Premiere Pro will still export 6 uncompressed channels of audio when you select 5.1.
It doesn't bother giving you the option for a 6 channel QT file because it is the same as 5.1.
I had the same issue a while ago where I wanted to export a ProRes HQ file with 6 channels of audio but instead of 5.1, it was Lt-Rt (1-2), M&E (3-4), SOT (5-6). I just selected 5.1 when exporting then configure the channels as mono in Quicktime 7 Pro. Works perfectly.

Never had a problem till now, there a clip for some reason the audio is so crazy out of whack its impossable to even try and resync you're self. Like there some bit of it where the near end of the clip auido plays in the for 3 mins then it goes back to being like 20 seconds out of sync. It plays fine in Windows media player and quick time but in adobe it goes NUTS!
All the other cilps are fine just this one clip has gone crazy on me.
Any ideas how to fix this.
Ask away and i'll answer everything i can to the best, need to get this fixed to get this video finish asap...
    Thanks.

yea i am using the right sequence
here are 4 screen shots of 2 different things i was editing, both used to record my xbox 360 with Hauppauge, Seems adobe is the only program playing the video file with the audio out of sync/mixed up

  • Premiere Pro CS5/Twixtor Time Remapping Issue

    Hi,
Would like some help on this issue if possible thanks
Anyway.  Right now I am playing with Twixtor and applying the slow motion effect to one of my clips.  However, I am experiencing some issues as the more I slow motion certain parts of the clip, the clip as a whole shortens from its original length.  Intuitively, I went to my timeline and clicked on the right hand edge and attempted to drag it out in order to extend the clip.  However, It won't expand as I thought it would .  I know this issue is easily solvable, can somebody lend me a hand?
    Thanks.

Your intuition to lengthen the sequence is sound since the plug-in is not able to change the length of sequence as required if you are trying to slow it down. There are a couple of ways to solve this. See this video starting at 3:42:

  • Audio Issues Premiere Pro CS5.5

    Hi All!
    New here...
I'm using Premiere Pro CS5.5 on a Mac Pro, running Lion. Had no issues with it at all until now.
    Issue:
For some reason, when I'm looking at footage in the source window the audio doesn't play. However if I leave it for a few minutes it 'compiles', the best way I can think of describing it as is buffering. but if I skip forward a substantial amount of time, say 3-5minutes the audio fails. I also have a slight problem with the video footage stuttering when viewing in the source window.
Looking back at previous edits that I've done they all work fine, its only effecting new edits.
I've trawled the net looking for answers, followed all the hints I've found from clearing the Media Cache database to reinstalling the entire collection to changing the audio hardware output
    However nothing works.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Stu

They're the same as I"ve always used.
However, the problem seems to have sorted itself now? All I can think it is, is that Premiere is having to maybe convert the audio codecs?
It was just a bit weird that it suddenly started happening.
But as per your request, I think this is the right info:
    Type: QuickTime Movie
    File Size: 3.1 GB
    Image Size: 720 x 576
    Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:14:24:05
Average Data Rate: 3.6 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.4587
    Thanks for the help

Actually i have a long video clip and i have scatterred this clip into 6 diffrent portions
where i am not able to import the last video clip.It is giving me same error "file contain too many audio channels"".
    Regards
    Manoj

I too am getting this error in Premiere CS5.  I was digitizing a Broadcast VHS and since I did not have a breakout box, I hooked it up to a Sony DV deck so I could connect via firewire and capture inside Premiere.  I was able to capture and import 1 of the 3 clips and it did have 4 audio channels attached to it.  However, upon closer inspection only 2 channels had a waveform.  I captured the other 2 clips the same way, but this time, Premiere give the error "The file contains too many audio channels."
    Any ideas?

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 and H.264/AVC video import issues

    Hello!
I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and using Premiere Pro CS5.5.
I record HD videos using a Canon EOS 7D in .mov format. I don't have any issues importing these files to Premiere, but I do have problems with the convered equivalents. I'm currently using AVS Video Converter 7 to convert the original files to .AVI files.
The main difference between the two versions (original and converted) is the bitrate and audio codec, but Premiere only imports audio when I drag the .avi file to it. What strikes me dumb is that a poor editor like Camtasia Studio has no problems reading the files (both the audio and video track), but Premiere does.
I also have the MainConcept Codec Suite, but that doesn't help.
Can someone please give me a better solution than telling me to convert the converted videos back to a format supported by Premiere? I would prefere jugling with codecs and make it work rather than spending time converting videos back and forth.
Intel Core i7 920, 12GB RAM, nVidia GeForce GTX 295.
    Thank you!

    @Jim Simon
I have 7D footage on my hard dive right now.  4.5 minutes takes up
about 660MB.  Which is right in line with AVCHD running at 12 to 13 GB
    per hour.
I don't know what kind of footage you got, but I download recordings from it daily and I think that entitles me to say I know better. Maybe what you've got isn't original 7D HD footage.
As for the solution...what I'm saying is that the "best
practice" IS the solution.  You're creating a problem by not following
the best practice.  If you follow that best practice, you will stop
    creating the problem.
I already have problems. To be more specific, I'm not looking for future advice, but for ways of solving the problems I currently have. Telling me what to do from now on won't help me import and use in Premiere the already compressed files.
    @banzemanga
Well, nothing will be resolved by complaining about it.
What you should be doing is to request this feature.
I'm not complaining as much as I'm saying Premiere is really PRO.
However, i am curious why MainConcept Codec Suite can't import your file.
Have you tried using a different video container differnt than *.avi?
Yes, I have tried a dozen, but to no avail.
    @shooternz
Most people using Premiere want to maintain high quality...not throw it away by using converters.
I'm using native files too, it's just that I don't keep them that way for years.
Editing native is seen by most to be a huge PLUS!
    Yes, I would say CPU-wise.
Later in the evening I have found what seems to be the best solution to my issue.
AVS Video ReMaker and MainConcept can do wonders together when it comes to importing compressed files to Premiere PRO. AVS Video ReMaker's MP4 export almost instantly converts files with no quality loss and very close to the source file's size, and these MP4 files are recognized as native clips in Premiere (with stereo audio track and clean responsive video) thanks to MainConcept. It is excellent! The only downside is that the CPU gets more stressed (about 20-30% more of a Core i7 920), but the compressed video runs smooth (HD@50fps), needs no rendering and takes the same ammount of space as the source compressed file.

  • Microphone Issue using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5

I have also posted this at the Adobe forums. I'm just hoping someone, somewhere can help.
I am a recent convert from Final Cut to Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, mainly so I can start burning to blu-ray. I am finding the switch a frustrating experience. The latest issue I have is with audio recording. I have an external firewire mic set up that worked flawlessly with Final Cut for two years for recording commentary tracks. Yesterday, I tried recording a commentary track in Premiere Pro, and it worked fine for about an hour, at which point it suddenly stopped. Now I can only reocrd about 6 seconds of audio before it stops recording, and repeated attempts result in a "serious error" and Premiere crashing.
I have searched everywhere and tried everything I can think of. Restarted Premiere. Uninstalled/reinstalled premiere. Shut down/unplugged/replugged in C-1 microphone. Updated software. Restarted iMac. Nothing works. I am out of things to try, and hoping someone here might have a suggestion. I have tried using the iMac's internal microphone just as a test (since the quality of the recording would be unusuable for my purposes) and Premiere won't even use that for the six seconds it will the C-1.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

So, just in case anyone else is wondering, we never did solve this issue. However, we upgraded Soundbooth to Audition, and were able to move the project there and finish the commentary track. So, that's a workaround, anyway. (A workaround that did not work in Soundbooth).
