Premiere Pro CS5 crashing and not allowing updates

Hello,
I'm experiencing two problems with ProCS5.
First, while in pro, the program crashes when I click on a video clip in the Lib to view it in the monitor.
Second, I tried to update to the program hoping to correct the first issue, but the update returns the error "installation unsuccessful" for unknown reasons.
I am running:
  Model Name: Mac Pro
  Model Identifier: MacPro1,1
  Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
  Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
  Number Of Processors: 2
  Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
  Memory: 7 GB
  Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
I just installed a 1.5T hard drive for video editing and formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
I can view the videos directly from the hard drive and the play back is fine.  I'm only having this problem in Premiere Pro CS5.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Regards,
DS

  • How to work with Premiere Pro cs5.5 and After Effects cs5 together?

I have edited my movie in premiere pro cs5.5 and made the rough cut. In premiere, i have edited the video, put in soundtrack and foley. Now, i need to add muzzle flashes & blood splatters in some scenes and final color correction using After Effects cs5.
When i import the premiere project in AE and make the changes, and then i export it back as premiere project. When i open this prmiere project, it shows vaious kind of errors and no changes are retained that i did in AE. Also, when i import the premiere project (which has 4 different sequences) in AE, all the media that has been imported in the premiere project also opens in AE making it difficult to organize the media.
How should i work now so that i add vfx and color correction using AE cs5?
I thought of exporting the video from Premiere pro and then open the video in AE and add vfx to some scenes and color correction to the full video and render it out again. But, this is the first time i am using AE and i am not sure if this is the best way. PLEASE HELP.
Or, i could import the whole project in AE, add vfx, do color correction AND then export to video from AE. But i think, it will be better if i export the video from Premiere as it has loads of options to choose from while exporting to a movie.
The dynamic link does not work between Premiere Pro Cs5.5 and After Effects cs5. Even if it does, its not working on my pc.
All the footage is in HD and i want the final result in best quality HD too. PLEASE Help!

If you are working between After Effects and Premiere Pro but with versions that are not the same number, you need to just work with movies rendered and exported as intermediate, lossless files.
Dynamic Link only works between After Effects and Premiere Pro of the same version number, and only when they are installed as part of the same suite.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 crash when adjusting audio gain

Premiere Pro CS5 crash when adjusting audio gain
    The same on another workstations.
    Have any idea?

    Hi Dennis,
I just had a go and can reproduce the problem straight away too.
Created a new project then a new XDCAM EX 1080p25 sequence. Imported a short Sony PMW-350 clip. Dragging it straight to the timeline and then setting audio gain is OK (Source channel mapping preferences set to mono).
However, if I Modify - Audio Channels and then set track format as stereo or mono as stereo and then drag the clip to the timeline and right click - gain, Premiere crashes about 1/2 to 1 second after the audio gain dialogue box appears. Error log below if it's useful.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 crash on startup

Before I was having a problem with cs5 crashing, I uninstalled and reinstalled the master collection, then updated everything. Premiere Pro cs5 seemed to work fine, I was jumping in my seat with the new mercury engine and how fast it was compared to cs4, but now today I come back to find out its crashing again on startup
    I have 5.0.2 installed
On the side note Photoshop (even with its latest update) crashes on type tool
    Running latest OSX
Tried changing permissions, reinstalling, everything! For now I guess i'll have to use cs4

    hi.. DigitalRicky,
did you ever come to a solution for this?
I believe I am having the same or simular problem.
im on a mac .. 10.5.8 with enought disk spack.. about 50gb
    have downloaded update for primiere.
    two things are happening
1.freezes/stalls/doesn't respond on opening program.. I have to force quit it or on some occasions it just quits itself. this occurs on new and exsisiting projects.
    2.  on 3 occasions after i had fiddled around with deleting preferences, i have been able to edit .. however no unable to add footage as the second i trie to add footage to timeline it stalls/freezes/does not respond.  then i have a world of hurt and can't re open.. back to problem 1.
what trouble shooting i have done..
    1. uninstall/reinstall
    2. run no other software etc.
    3. Documents>Adobe>AdobeProductName (like Premiere Pro)  Inside of this, there is a folder with a number (usually 4.0 for CS4).  Take that to the trash and restart your application. -> this is where i can start old project but not a new one..
    4. run disk utility on comp
    5. re start comp etc
im not to sure on what else i can do ..
I would GREATLY appreciate any help.
    thanks heaps!

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Playback and Performance Issues

I upgraded (2) separate editing work stations to CS5 from CS4 about a month ago. I moved from 4 to 5 to try and get rid of some problems which both work stations were encountering.
The problems since the upgrade are similiar: playback from timeline has intermittent audio drop out and video going to black during playback, (new one)-video locked up but audio kept playing-system hung and had to be rebooted.
Also, when clicking around on the timeline or scrubbing the timeline, Premiere crashes.
This type of performance on playout or timeline usage is consistent on both machines which have indentical setups and builds. None of this happens all the time but happens enough to causes problems with workflow. We edit on the work stations, dub files to playback system for air, and use a shared server to move files back and forth as needed but files are always stored locally instead of using straight from server.
    These machines are:
    Premiere Pro CS5.02
OS  WIndows 7 Pro 64 bit
    12 GB Ram, DDR3-1333 (6-2GB modules)
CPU Intel Xeon Quad Core [email protected] GHZ, 2 processors, 8 MB Cache
500 GB SATA 2 hard drive, 7200 RPM, 32 MC (System Drive)...309 GB of space avail
    (3) 1 TB SATA 2 hard drives, 7200RPM, 32 MC (3 TB, RAID0 STorage) 2.16 TB of space avail
Nvidia GE Force 9800 GT Graphics card, DUAL DVI, 1 GB
REaltek High Def Audio, Drivers 6.0.1.5953
    (1) monitor in use
output of system runs to ADVC-700 breakout box to feed playback system
I have all of my software installed on C: (309 GB of 500 GB avail)
I have all of my videos files stored on D: (Raid Storage with 2.16 TB of 3 TB avail)
The only changes I've made since installing CS5 would be to change the auto save from 20 minutes to 60 minutes. Don't know if an auto save would cause an issue on playback as I've noted above.
I'm not a computer whiz by any stretch of the imagination but I can follow directions if given for testing/eval.

Do the PPBM5 Benchmark and send the results to me by PM, in addition to sending the results to Bill as indicated. I'll have a look at what might be going on here.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 Dynamic Link not working as part of Production Premium CS5

I ran into a situation whereby I recently reinstalled my Production Premium CS 5 onto a new computer and when trying to run the Dynamic Link out of Premiere PRO CS 5 to create a new After Effects composition, After Effects tried to start up but then crashed with the error that Production Premium was needed.
Yet, I had Production Premium CS5.
(Note:  The crash didn't occur when I simply tried to use Dynamic Link without anything selected in my project or timeline - but the moment I had a clip in my timeline selected to work on it, the dynamic link would not work as covered above.)
In checking around the forums I found various answers to this problem such as rebooting the computer, reformatting hard drives and/or whatever.  This all may be correct.
However, as I just went through that nightmare, I was not anxious to do that again.  So, I called Adobe and the following solution solved the matter in 5 minutes:
    1. Close all your other Adobe applications such as After Effects.
    2. Open up Premiere Pro CS5 and then deactivate it by going to HELP>DEACTIVATE and then Permanently Deactivate.
3.Close the application and restart Premiere Pro CS5.
4.Then do the same to Activate it.
    5. Have your serial number handy and plug it in when prompted.
Solved it right away and worked beautifully.
Not to say there couldn't be more complicated situations, but the above worked and the simpler the better is good for me. And I thought I would post this in case anyone else ran into this problem.

    Thanks for posting your solution.

  • Premiere pro cs5 crashing on start up

I have an imac i7 and i am a final cut pro user and i wanted to try adobe premiere pro cs5 before i bought well i installed it on my alumunium macbook (late 2008 model) which is and intel dual core 2 ghz processor and 4 gigs of ram and it runs perfectly fine no problems kinda like it, but when i install it on my imac i7 it runs for a little bit then crashes on start up. i even did a full system install of osx and it worked for a little and stopped and now just crashes everytime on start up, and its only premiere pro cuz i downloaded the master collection trial. and everything installed on my macbook is the exact same as installed on my imac i7. so i dont know what the heck is wrong uninstalled a million times, and i dont want to buy this software if i cant even get it to work on the main system i need it to work on. can any one help? here is a piece of the crash report.
    Application Specific Information:
*** error for object 0x10daac200: incorrect checksum for freed object - object was probably modified after being freed.

First, I am a PC-guy, and know almost zero about Macs, so take this with a handful of salt.
Similar issues in PC's can be caused by programs that incorrectly report their memory address usage to the OS, or programs that tell the OS they have released that memory address, but have, in fact, not done so.
Now, even if that is what is causing your issue, I have no clue how one could check on a Mac, but we have a lot of Mac-users around here, who can likely tell you that I am crazy and my comments do not apply to a Mac, or how to check.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere Pro CS5 crashes while editing 4.5K-RED-Material

    Hi there,
I'm editing 4.5K-material with Premiere Pro CS5. After a couple of minutes (mostly after watching sequences longer then 10 seconds) the program crashes. Windows 7 tells me that "ImporterREDServer.exe" doesn't work anymore and then Premiere freezes. I doubt that it is a performance problem, because with CS4 and regular 4K-RED-material I haven't had any problems on the same PC. I deinstalled CS5 several times (with Cleanupscript and everything) and re-installed it, but the problem remained the same.
I would really appreciate some help or any idea what the problem could be. Thanks in advance!
    Daniel
    My system:
    i7 860 @ 2.8 GHz
    8 GB RAM
    Windows 7

Well, well. After many tests with other platforms we came to the conclusion that it was not Premiere Pro that caused problems but the material itself. This is some kind of a worst case scenerio. In the process of copying the data onto hdds some frames within the data got damaged and causes Premiere to crash. Since the data on both discs is corrupt differently we now try to rebuild as many files as possible. Yet there will be clips that can't be saved. Anyhow. There will be a film and that's the most important thing.
Thanks again for your help everybody

  • Premiere Pro CS5 crashing when exporting (only certain file types)

    Hi
I have found that when I try and export media in Premiere Pro CS5, it often crashes during the export. It says
It's only certain file types. For instance, Vimeo HD seems okay but Vimeo SD always crashes mid-export. MPEG is okay too, but MPEG2-DVD always crashes.
Sometimes it says this: "Error Compiling Movie - Unknown Error" but doesn't throw me out of Premiere altogether.
Other times it crashes altogether and Windows gives me this error message: "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 258.96 stopped responding and has successfully recovered". Premiere Pro then stops responding so I have to re-open it and start exporting again.
I have checked there are no gaps in my timeline and I have rendered the whole work area. Besides, I doubt it's anything that I'm doing wrong with the project itself because it's exporting fine in some formats.
I am also experiencing random crashes when editing too. Not that often, but occasionally it throws me out - and twice it has made the whole screen go crazy, with weird dotting across the screen (it's scary, it looks like the monitor itself has broken!).
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Nick
PS I have a pretty decent new PC - Dell Studio XPS, 8GB, 2x1TB drives, etc. Premiere itself is working great, except for these crashes.

Some drivers do not work well in some systems... so go to nVidia and try a different (usually newer) driver for your card
These notes are for Encore, but they MAY also work in Premiere

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Crashing "Adobe Premiere has stopped working"

Premiere CS5 has started on my Windows 7 64 system, after working for only about 10-15 minutes. After doing a reinstall, reading through forums, and updating drivers, nothing's working. It really doesn't seem like anyone else has had this problem. Based on the suggestions of someone with a similar problem in Photoshop CS5, I ran a registry fix up. The problem persists.
My event viewer showed the follwoing error, which I have posted below. This is slowing me down tremendously, so help is appreciated. It might also be worth noting that, thinking this was a Windows error, I contacted their forums. They thought it was an Adobe code error.

The way that I would work this would be to do a search on my system for msvcr90.dll. I expect you'll find half a dozen or more. Compare the version numbers of the files that you find in Adobe Media Encoder to the ones you have in Premiere Pro. If all the version numbers match except for one, replace the one that doesn't match. On the other hand... if all the version numbers match, replace the ones in Premiere Pro with the ones in Media Encoder. When you replace files make sure you copy files from one location to another, don't actually remove the files from the source location. That probably goes without saying, but better safe than sorry.
Make sure to post back and let others know whether you have success or failure with this trick.

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 and H.264/AVC video import issues

    Hello!
I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and using Premiere Pro CS5.5.
I record HD videos using a Canon EOS 7D in .mov format. I don't have any issues importing these files to Premiere, but I do have problems with the convered equivalents. I'm currently using AVS Video Converter 7 to convert the original files to .AVI files.
The main difference between the two versions (original and converted) is the bitrate and audio codec, but Premiere only imports audio when I drag the .avi file to it. What strikes me dumb is that a poor editor like Camtasia Studio has no problems reading the files (both the audio and video track), but Premiere does.
I also have the MainConcept Codec Suite, but that doesn't help.
Can someone please give me a better solution than telling me to convert the converted videos back to a format supported by Premiere? I would prefere jugling with codecs and make it work rather than spending time converting videos back and forth.
Intel Core i7 920, 12GB RAM, nVidia GeForce GTX 295.
    Thank you!

    @Jim Simon
I have 7D footage on my hard dive right now.  4.5 minutes takes up
about 660MB.  Which is right in line with AVCHD running at 12 to 13 GB
    per hour.
I don't know what kind of footage you got, but I download recordings from it daily and I think that entitles me to say I know better. Maybe what you've got isn't original 7D HD footage.
As for the solution...what I'm saying is that the "best
practice" IS the solution.  You're creating a problem by not following
the best practice.  If you follow that best practice, you will stop
    creating the problem.
I already have problems. To be more specific, I'm not looking for future advice, but for ways of solving the problems I currently have. Telling me what to do from now on won't help me import and use in Premiere the already compressed files.
    @banzemanga
Well, nothing will be resolved by complaining about it.
What you should be doing is to request this feature.
I'm not complaining as much as I'm saying Premiere is really PRO.
However, i am curious why MainConcept Codec Suite can't import your file.
Have you tried using a different video container differnt than *.avi?
Yes, I have tried a dozen, but to no avail.
    @shooternz
Most people using Premiere want to maintain high quality...not throw it away by using converters.
I'm using native files too, it's just that I don't keep them that way for years.
Editing native is seen by most to be a huge PLUS!
    Yes, I would say CPU-wise.
Later in the evening I have found what seems to be the best solution to my issue.
AVS Video ReMaker and MainConcept can do wonders together when it comes to importing compressed files to Premiere PRO. AVS Video ReMaker's MP4 export almost instantly converts files with no quality loss and very close to the source file's size, and these MP4 files are recognized as native clips in Premiere (with stereo audio track and clean responsive video) thanks to MainConcept. It is excellent! The only downside is that the CPU gets more stressed (about 20-30% more of a Core i7 920), but the compressed video runs smooth (HD@50fps), needs no rendering and takes the same ammount of space as the source compressed file.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Crashing in Windows 7

    Hello,
Recently I have been experiencing program crashes in Premiere Pro CS5. Everything works fine, until I try to import some media. It often imports fine, however when it comes to conforming, he whole program freezes and Windows Error Report comes up. This happens everytime. I thought that it could possibly be a problem with my computers hardware (as I had been running Premiere Pro on the bare minimum requirements). So I upgraded my Processor from a Dual Core 2.0Ghz to a Quad Core 2.5Ghz. I also doubled the RAM from 2GB to 4GB. Yet the same error still occurs. Has anybody else been experiencing the same problem, and are there any steps I can take to fix it?

    Welcome to the forum.
What are the full specs. of your Source Files, and what is the Sequence Preset?
Also, please tell us about your system's I/O, i.e. the HDD's, and especially things like defragmented free space. The more details, the better.
Last, are you running Win7-64 with but 4GB of RAM? That is just about enough to run Win7-64, and leave little, if any, for PrPro.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Crashes on Startup on Mac

    Hi,
I have installed Master Collection CS5 on a MacBook Pro (late 2009) Mac OSX 10.6..4 (4GB RAM) with all Apple updates applied as at 26.8.2010  , Photoshop & Illustrator work fine , Premiere Pro & Soundbooth CS5 repeatedly crash when starting up & have never worked since installing.
I have lodged this problem with Adobe Tech Support.
One typical  error message is "/Scully64/shared/adobe/MediaCore/ASL/Foundation/Make/Mac/../..Src/Di r ectoryRegistry.cpp-283" on launching Premiere Pro Cs5r aniother might be " No client name has encountered an error" or "Premiere Pro has encountered an error"
I have uninstalled CS5 , used the CS5 Cleanup tool , reinstalled Master Collection CS5 (several times) the only existing  Admin user account , repaired Mac hard drive Disk Permissions ( in Disk Utility) , & checked /repaired any Font errors/duplications all with no luck.
Does anyone have an answer ?
    Thanks,
    Rick

I don't recognize those error messages, but you should try installing the recent Premiere Pro update, which fixes several crashing problems.
When you have updated Premiere Pro CS5, let us know whether your problem is fixed.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 (5.5.2) update adds CUDA processing with Maximus configurations

Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 (5.5.2) adds the ability to take advantage of a Tesla C2075 card for CUDA processing when that card is installed along with a Quadro card, which handles OpenGL processing. This configuration—in which the Quadro card handles OpenGL processing while the Tesla card handles CUDA processing—is referred to as a Maximus configuration.

Here is what one of the Nvidia folks said when a similar question was asked elsewhere:
"That’s right; a Quadro 6000 and Tesla C2075 are not identical but they are very similar and you can expect similar performance. There are a few reasons you might want to use a Maximus configuration for Premiere Pro rather than a single Quadro 6000:
    1.  Having both a Quadro and Tesla GPU in the system means when the Tesla is cranking full-out on Mercury Playback Engine the Quadro is unaffected, so you can, say, open After Effects or other application that may take advantage of the Quadro, and system performance on that app will be better than if it was competing for resources with MPE on a single GPU.
    2.  In the future, we expect many users will want to run an animation application (using the Quadro) and a simulation application (on the Tesla) at the same time to provide animators with a level of interactivity they don’t have without Maximus technology. Example video is here. (http://youtu.be/_LagqqsVO28)
    3.  It costs less. A typical Maximus configuration has a mid-range Quadro (e.g. a Quadro 2000) and a Tesla C2075, which in that instance costs hundreds of dollars less than a single Quadro 6000 and offers similar performance plus the workflow advantage listed above.Of course, some users may want to run a Quadro 6000 and a Tesla C2075 and get maximum performance, but others can actually get the best MPE acceleration for less money with Maximus technology."
