Premiere Pro CS5 & CS6 features

Hello all,
Adobe did great job improving Premiere Pro. I'm using Premiere Pro since 1.5 version, so I'm not a newbie. I want to ask few questions
1. I installed Master Collection CS6 Trial. As editor I really liked the Slider position. Why Adobe in CS6 put it at the bottom? Maybe in later versions, Adobe could make it customizable? Users could choose where to put it. Think about it.
CS5 slider

2. New sequence setting. Only few presets? Maybe with the next update, You will add more presets? Ofc I could them by myself, but c'mon...

3. Exporting. Why Adobe removed MPEG2 from export? Many still uses MPEG2.
CS5 Mpeg2
CS6 no Mpeg2
For the conlusion, CS5 was the best version I worked with, it needed only stabilizer. But CS6 is really good version too, it just needs some minor fixes.
I'll be looking for answers or ideas
Peace.

AFAIK, the trial comes without MPEG2-codec due to licensing restrictions, meaning Adobe would have to pay fees for every trial someone is testing. I think they feel disinclined to do so and thats why you dont see any MPEG2 options for Sequence presets or export. The fully licensed PPro's sequence preset panel looks like that:

I already read this but it just solved the probs with premiere.
The Problem in this case was that (so told me the german adobe support hotline) CS5 ist not working with mobile versions of the nvidia quadro 8in this case quadro fx 2500m).
I solved the prolbem by modifying a non-mobile driver. Now, some energy-saving features won't work anymore and it ist not an "offical solution" and it ist on my own risc of course, but it works well so far.
Just follow the steps posted in that link

  • Upgrade Premiere Pro CS5.5 on PC to CS6 on MAC? Use both at same time?

Can I upgrade from my Premiere Pro CS5.5 on my PC Laptop to CS6 on my new MAC machine?  If so, will I still be able to use my CS5.5 on my PC at the same time as using CS6 on my MAC?
I'd be grateful for your advice and, if this is possible, how to proceed.
    Many thanks,
    Andrew Kent

The original poster was not on the Creative Cloud subscription.
    What a mess.
I think what Baber is saying is Adobe considers an "Upgrade" purchase from a prior license as an entirely new separate license. That allows you to run the old version license on a different platform from the new "Upgrade" license.
So if you need to run both platforms (Windows and Mac) your options are:
    Cloud subscription
Purchase a whole new second license to be able to run the current version on both platforms (what we did)
Wait for an point version update and upgrade going to the other platform. That allows you to run on both Windows and Mac, but one version back on one of the platforms but at a greatly reduced price until the next point upgrade.
Seems pretty convoluted and obtuse. But ..."It is what it is."

  • Upgrading from Premiere Pro CS5.5 to CS6

I have Premiere Pro CS5.5 as part of Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium.  I just purchased Premiere Pro CS6 upgrade but when I try to register I select Premiere Pro CS5.5 as my qualifying product upgrade and enter the SN from Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium that contained PP5.5 but I get the message that I need a qualifying product.
I would think it would recognize that I have PP CS5.5.  Should I have upgraded to Adobe Creative Suite 6 instead of just upgrading Premiere Pro?

    What Mylenium said.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/faq.html#purchasing-policy
"Am I eligible for upgrade pricing from a previous Creative Suite edition to a standalone CS component?
No. You cannot upgrade from a Creative Suite edition to an individual CS component. To confirm your options and learn about the requirements for upgrades, check the upgrade eligibility chart on the buying guide page of the product you wish to purchase."

I was given project in Premiere Pro CS5.5 to work on in CS6, but have to save it back again in CS5.5.
    Is this possible?
If so. how does one do it?

The license allows 2 activations... so just install/activate on your laptop... as long as you have only installed/activated once already

  • How can I go from Premiere Pro CS5 to After Effects CS6? (Problem)

    Hi,
I am trying to send my clip from Premiere Pro CS5 to After Effects CS6, but when I right click on the clip, I can't even select the option to send it to After Effects. I can see the option to send it to After Effects, but I just cant select it. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    -Billy

You can do what you want... only going the other way!
You can import a CS5 Premiere Project (in its entirety
or a selected sequence) into CS6 Ae.
    In CS6 Ae:
    File>Import>Adobe Premiere Pro Project...
Navigate to your CS5 Premiere project, double-click
and select 'All Sequences', or your preferred sequence.
As Jim points out, Dynamic Linking will only work
between matching versions of Pr and Ae.

  • Has anyone tested Premiere Pro CS5, CS5.5, or CS6 in Windows 8?

Hi all.  I was curious if anyone has tested Premiere Pro CS5, CS5.5, or CS6 in Windows 8 RTM (MSDN)?  Does CS5 install and run without problem?  I am planning on getting a new system, but don't know if order it with 7 or 8.  Thanks for any input on the matter.

I have been running on Windows 8 and 8.1 the CS6 suite for a while also. And by the way, capture via firewire does work. Legacy drivers are unnecessary with Windows 8 or 8.1. I have captured from VHS tapes, etc. using the IEEE 1394 port.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 features - PC vs Mac

This isn't a PC vs Mac question.  I have both PCs (Win 7) and Macs (Snow Leopard).  Just wondering if there is any advantage to buying the PC version or Mac version of PP CS5 if considering the software only?  Any different  features on one version or the other?  Any stabilityy/bug issues using one or the other?  Thanks.

    Hi Todd,
Thank you very much for your reply!
    All the best,

Subject: Premiere Pro CS5 features - PC vs Mac
Is that list of missing features for the Mac version of PPro CS5
still current, or has it been updated in the newer versions?
What is in the Help document should be current. (Sometimes you need to read the comments on a given page to see some updated information.)
    Or are
there any plans for including these features in future upgrades of CS5?
If you want to see something added or changed, http://www.adobe.com/go/wish.
    Do
you have any idea why these features are not included?
Premiere Pro came back to Mac OS only a couple of versions ago. At that time, porting some features over to the new platform was considered to be not quite worth it because the features weren't much used, anyway. In many cases, the effects and features that are on Windows only have alternatives that are available on Mac OS. Much of what didn't come over to Mac OS were obsolete effects; we need to keep them around so that projects created with them can still work in the new version, but in many cases there wasn't much point in reqriting them for a new platform.
    I'd love to
start using the PPro CS5 on Mac, but I am worried about some of the
missing features, that are quite useful, eg. Camera Blur, Ghosting,
    Color Replace etc...
As I said, there are alternatives-usually superior alternatives-that are available on Mac OS. For example, the http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS5C347E48-575E-469b-852C-74494022A4AFa.h tml and http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WSC924856D-FA9A-41c1-A930-966D90CD245Fa.h tml effects are available on both platforms, so the lack of the Color Replace effect shouldn't be much concern.
But, again, if you want to see something added or changed, http://www.adobe.com/go/wish.

  • Adobe Audition CS5.5 with Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello everybody.
I am considering downgrading from Master Collection CS5 to Adobe Production Premium CS5.5
But quite frankly it's just because of one application.
Though, i am in doubt if i'll actually going to make the downgrade.
And as you could and might have guessed it is the Adobe Audition CS5.5 Application.
Though really the whole pack has a GREAT improvement overall, I just actaully want to mix SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro and sound editing application (Audition).
Which leads me to my next question.
Now with Adobe Soundbooth CS5 closed off (by April 24th), and an UPGRADE for Soundbooth CS5 users to Audition CS5. Does this mean that Audition CS5.5 works SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro CS5?
Is there a dynamic link between the two applications? (Audition CS5.5 and Premiere Pro CS5)
AM i able to send mixes between the two? I really don't want to loose any Audio data, such as 5.1 channel mapping, volume mixing, denoising, general mixing etc.
All i really need is some good quality sound editing which works seamless, as After Effects and Premiere Pro has proved to me can be done.
Just want to know if it is possible. Or if I REALLY have to upgrade in order to get the sweet apples.
    Best
    Lucas

    Hi _durin_
    Thanks for your quick response.
But I didn't quite understand your answer.
I have seen Jason Levine's video earlier, as CS5.5 was announced and it looks natively good. I understand the mixdown attributes etc.
Please correct me if im wrong HOWEVER this workflow and settings applies still to ONLY the new CS5.5 Version?
Im currently using Master Collection CS5.
Instead of getting either the Production Premium, or Master Collection I am strongly considering updating Soundbooth CS5 to Audition CS5.5 (the option is there as i can tell by SoundBooth's website, though i get a weird error message when I click the update link...)
However I need to know, IF Audition CS5.5 works well with the PREVIOUS version (that'll be CS5 not 5.5), of Premiere Pro.
Are there an option to render the reference video, and generate a interchange session from WITHIN Premiere Pro CS5 to Audition CS5.5?
Im sorry if I either sound harsh or "willingly" misunderstanding. But I have only documentation on how the integration works between the current versions (meaning 5.5).
Im as you can guess VERY confused over the move from Adobe to make a .5 version instead of a full-fledged CS6 solution. It causes a stir, cause I then don't know much of the integration between the previous applications.
I have seen as an example that Photoshop CS5 have gotten the update to receive paintings/files made with their new touch API. So I wonder whether integrational features will be a part of the CS5 pack since, as i've mentioned, an application like Soundbooth gets replaced with Audition, with an upgrade option for the Soundbooth owners.
Im confused and hope you can help me clear my mind up, whether to upgrade or not. I will download the trial eventually, but not onto my current CS5 system since I already use this in my daily video work and want to AVOID confusion.

  • Final Cut Studio Vs Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.

What are the best reasons for purchasing Final Cut Studio over Adobe Premiere Pro CS5?
    Thanks!

Hi friends i'ven reading your coments and my conclusions are CS5 is faster and has the same features and quality than FCP, i like to ask to Studio X if you know more FCP and you are a pro why? with facts because if i have to buy or say to a friend or client go and use one or another with real facts.
Example FCP has better color calibration, better final quality, more features or so.
Another curious thing is that jhon 1 in 2 said is better AVCHD compatibility or handle these are to consistent points that i can undertand as a normal person.
I can understand a  point if you can say me why FCP is better with examples because i know much of hardware but a little of this software, i can give a big point to a software tha can use mi machine at full capacity because if i spend 10K$ in a computer i'd like a blazing fast one, if not is better to spend only 2.5K$ and wait the same amount of time for the same results.
Sorry for my english i'm not from USA so my vocabulary is short.

  • New in Premiere Pro CS5. Questions: markers, shortcuts, keyframes, and more!

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I'm an editor from Argentina, with background in Avid media Composer, but I'm switching to premiere pro cs5 for a new job. I was highly and happily surprised with it. But, there's still a couple of things I haven't quite got right, yet.
So, a couple of newbie questions... you'll save me a lot of time if you can answer some of them.
    Markers
1a. Can I use markers with different colors?
1b. Is there a way to select more than one marker and delete them at the same time? Of course, with out deleting all of them, just the ones I need.
1c. How can I set up a shortcut for going to next\previous clip marker in the timeline? In shortcuts, I go to Marker>Go go Clip marker> and select a shortcut, but in the timeline it goes nowhere. I have made this work for sequence markers in the timeline, and this shortcut also work for going next\previous marker on a clip in the source monitor.
1d. How can I extend a marker in the timeline? I know I can set the duration of the marker in the pop up menu... but if there a way to do it directly in the timeline?
    Razor Tool
    2. A simple one. After I've used the razor tool on a clip... how can I join the clip again?
    Track Select Tool
    3. Can the Track Select Tool, select all the clips to the LEFT, instead of all the clips to the right? In avid there's a Select Right command, which works as the track selector, but there's also a Select Left command, which does the same, but to the left.
    Audio Master Meters
4.Another simple one. Can I put this in a horizontal way? It'll fit perfectly in the tool bar then.
    Tab sizes
5.Can the tab size be modified? I have "Media browser", "Info", "History", "Effects" all docked... but the size of the panel is such that I can never see the four tabs at once, I have to drag the little bar at the top. Can I have the tabs be smaller so that I can see the four of them... as if they said "Media.." "inf.." "hist".."eff"... instead of wasting space with long tab names?
    Keyframes
    6. Is there a shortcut to add one? Where is it in the shorcut configuration? I know I can put them with the Pen Tool, I need a shortcut to replace the "add/remove keyframe" button on the tracks in the timeline.
6b.How can I snap the current time indicator to a shortcut in the timeline?
6c. Can I lazo multiple keyframes?
    Audio While Scrubbing
    7. In Preferences>Audio>Play Audio While Scrubbing I can select that on and off. How can I set a shortcut for that?
Well... that was A LOT! Sorry for so many questions. Hopefully they can help other new users.

    From the top:
1a. No; but you can set numbered markers, for both clips and the sequence.
1b. No; you can delete one or all.
1c. You have to select the clip in order to activate the command.
1d. You can only do this in the Marker dialog.
    2. No direct way to do this. Delete either the portion before or after the edit, and then extend the clip to fill the gap. Clunky, yes.
    3. No, the Track Select tool only operates to the right.
    4. Audio meters are vertical only.
    5. The tab size matches the title of the tab; no way to change this.
    6a. No keyframe shortcut.
6b. It doesn't work in the Timeline panel, but in the Effects Controls panel, you can hold down Shift to snap the CTI as you drag.
6c. You can lasso multiple keyframes in the Effects Controls panel with the standard selection tool, or you can use the Pen tool in the Timeline panel. Just be sure to start within the graphical representation of the clip.
    7. No, it's only a program preference.
Sorry that so many of them are negative! Be sure to file feature requests for anything that you'd like to see: Adobe Feature Request/Bug Report Form

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 and H.264/AVC video import issues

    Hello!
I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and using Premiere Pro CS5.5.
I record HD videos using a Canon EOS 7D in .mov format. I don't have any issues importing these files to Premiere, but I do have problems with the convered equivalents. I'm currently using AVS Video Converter 7 to convert the original files to .AVI files.
The main difference between the two versions (original and converted) is the bitrate and audio codec, but Premiere only imports audio when I drag the .avi file to it. What strikes me dumb is that a poor editor like Camtasia Studio has no problems reading the files (both the audio and video track), but Premiere does.
I also have the MainConcept Codec Suite, but that doesn't help.
Can someone please give me a better solution than telling me to convert the converted videos back to a format supported by Premiere? I would prefere jugling with codecs and make it work rather than spending time converting videos back and forth.
Intel Core i7 920, 12GB RAM, nVidia GeForce GTX 295.
    Thank you!

    @Jim Simon
I have 7D footage on my hard dive right now.  4.5 minutes takes up
about 660MB.  Which is right in line with AVCHD running at 12 to 13 GB
    per hour.
I don't know what kind of footage you got, but I download recordings from it daily and I think that entitles me to say I know better. Maybe what you've got isn't original 7D HD footage.
As for the solution...what I'm saying is that the "best
practice" IS the solution.  You're creating a problem by not following
the best practice.  If you follow that best practice, you will stop
    creating the problem.
I already have problems. To be more specific, I'm not looking for future advice, but for ways of solving the problems I currently have. Telling me what to do from now on won't help me import and use in Premiere the already compressed files.
    @banzemanga
Well, nothing will be resolved by complaining about it.
What you should be doing is to request this feature.
I'm not complaining as much as I'm saying Premiere is really PRO.
However, i am curious why MainConcept Codec Suite can't import your file.
Have you tried using a different video container differnt than *.avi?
Yes, I have tried a dozen, but to no avail.
    @shooternz
Most people using Premiere want to maintain high quality...not throw it away by using converters.
I'm using native files too, it's just that I don't keep them that way for years.
Editing native is seen by most to be a huge PLUS!
    Yes, I would say CPU-wise.
Later in the evening I have found what seems to be the best solution to my issue.
AVS Video ReMaker and MainConcept can do wonders together when it comes to importing compressed files to Premiere PRO. AVS Video ReMaker's MP4 export almost instantly converts files with no quality loss and very close to the source file's size, and these MP4 files are recognized as native clips in Premiere (with stereo audio track and clean responsive video) thanks to MainConcept. It is excellent! The only downside is that the CPU gets more stressed (about 20-30% more of a Core i7 920), but the compressed video runs smooth (HD@50fps), needs no rendering and takes the same ammount of space as the source compressed file.

  • Buying Macbook pro with Premiere Pro CS5.5 Help needed DPU?

I am gearing for film a video production. Buying the macbook pro  and I PP CS 5.5.  Current project I want to use PP CS5.5 rather than FCP. I am new to all this.  All I want to do now is cut and sound edit with some efx matting and titles etc.  Do I need a DPU right now? Is so what is a basic one low cost? (I've seen bad reviews on the nvidia) Any help would be great I am buying all this soon.
Now shooting canon 7d will convert to pros res. In the future will shoot Red.

Although Thunderbolt is available on MBPs, MBPs with Thunderbolt enabled are still signinficantly slower than Windows desktops and laptops with the same CPU. This is, as Harm mentioned, due to their lack of ports offered. Even with Thunderbolt, MBPs are still available only with onboard Intel graphics or AMD/ATi GPUs (which cannot use Premiere Pro CS5.5's MPE GPU acceleration feature at all), and they do not support even two fast hard drives (the only supported fast hard drive on the MBP is the OS drive, and all of the offered external ports on most MBPs are significantly slower than the internal physical transfer speed of the OS drive). A few MBP's come with FW 800 ports, but even those are slower than the internal physical transfer speed of many notebook hard drives.
And did I mention that all versions of OSX (including the current release) are very poor at multithreading?
Who needs the FW 800 ports when you can daisy chain up to six devices through the Thunderbolt port?  The MBP has one TB port and the new iMac has two TB ports.  Take a look at these links:

  • Quicktime 7.71 compatible with Premiere Pro CS5?

I am having issues importing and exporting a clean movie.  It is showing some interlacing through certain scenes and the titles are jumpy both when they are still and during the roll. I currently have Quicktime V 7.6.8 (1675) and am wondering if I need to update this.  However I was hoping to find out if it was compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.  The Adobe site is so heavily weighted to CS5.5 I did not find anything over there.  Here are the specs for the clip.
    Here are the clips properties.

    Pixel Depth 24
    Frame Rate 29.97

    Thanks for the help.

    Dennis,
I'm also still on CS2, and the old QT 7.3.5 worked fine with it. I resisted the 7.4.x versions, as they were doing a poor job with so many Adobe products. When 7.5.x came out, I waited, until the field reported. All seemed to be fine, so all of my computers got 7.5.5, and all is great. Though I also have iTunes (on the laptop), I have hesitated to allow any upgrades to take place, regardless.
There are two new threads on the PrE forum, where 7.6.2 broke PrE, and 7.5.5 "fixed" those user's issues. There have been a couple of QT Player issues here too, and they involved 7.6.2. Do not know if Apple is up to 7.6.3, or not.
Now, I am a firm believer in not trying to "fix," what ain't broke [SIC]. Unless I can directly benefit from a "feature," I am loathe to just go with the "newest." In most cases, this policy has kept me from having to roll-back, in hopes that I can fix some problem from a new and improved version of X.
Totally OT for this thread, but do you have any insight on the differences in the Functional Content, i.e. Transistions and Effects, between the Mac and the PC versions of CS4? There have been several threads from Mac-users, and so far no one has had anything but sheer speculation. I don't know if you've seen any of those threads, but if you have any ideas, I'm sure that many Mac-users could benefit from those. [Sorry to go so OT.]
    Thanks,
    Hunt

I am looking into buying Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for my iMac computer, because the guy that I am going to help out is in another state, using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 on his PC, we will both be editing video to be featured on the Pursuit channel.  My question is will we be able to open up each other's video files, seeing that I am on a iMac and he is on a PC if we are both using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5?  Right now I am using Final Cut Pro X, and he can't read my files, the codecs won't work he says.   Please help this is driving me crazy
