Premiere Pro CS5 - How to get a good Slow Motion

Hi all,
what's the best option to get a realy good Slow Motion in Premiere Pro CS5. We use an interlaced HDV Material (1080i).
We try change Speed Duration to 50%, mix frames and some other options (could only tell you the german description = "Flimmern vermindern" think it's "reduce flicker" in englisch) but we still get no good result. We are very spoiled of the slowmotion which our Avid System creates.
Any ideas, how we can do this in CS5 ? In CS4 there was also and Effect called Time Stretch which has done a good job.
I miss this effect in CS5.
Thanks for any Information.
Werner

I've treid the demo. Looks realy good.
Showstopper is the big price. Also when we trimm the clip on the timeline where we think this should be the scene which we want to slowmo, add the twixtro slowmo on it, then we got another trimmed result. for example: add a 50% slowmo, should doouble the lenght of the clip on the timeline. this is not happened. So we have to re-trimm the clip to get writgh scenen lenght.
Maybe we do something wrong. The plugin is realy great ! thanks for the tipp.

  • Move to Premiere Pro CS5.5?

    Dear Steve:
I think your book about Premiere Elements 9 is great.  It’s been very helpful as I try to learn the program.
I have a 64-bit Windows 7 operating system on Dell XPS laptop with 8gb of RAM.  I learned yesterday that PE9 uses only 4gb of RAM or less because it is a 32-bit program.
I would like to consider moving up to Premiere Pro CS5.5 (I get an educational discount) to increase how much RAM is used.  Would you please answer a few questions?
    1)  If I install Premiere Pro on my machine, will it be able to work with videos created in PE9?
I am in the middle of a project (25 clips, video about 7 minutes).  I am concerned that I won’t be able to have PE9 and Pro on my computer at the same time, and if Pro doesn’t read PE9 files, I’ll have to uninstall Pro to finish the project.
    2)  I assume the Pro version will be faster, but will it solve some of the problems I’ve been having in PE9?
    a)  difficulty regulating audio levels even using key frames and the audio panel
    b)  some rough spots in the narration even after rendering (I use a mike that is plugged into the mike jack with a mini-plug.  I don’t use a USB mike).
    c)  thought bubbles bouncing around
    d)  difficulty selecting the text box when doing titles.  If I don’t hit just the right spot, it becomes the text editor and I have to try again to select the text box
    3)  Although I have 8gb of RAM, my video card has only 1gb.  Will that still allow a lot of improvement in performance if I go to Premiere Pro?
    4)  With an educational discount, I can get Premiere Pro for $345.   Do you see any reason (based on what I’ve said above) not to get it?
Thanks.  Would you please respond to the e-mail as well as the forum:  [email protected]

    >>You can install both Premiere Elements & PRO at the same time even launch and work with both the apps simultaneously.
    2)  I assume the Pro version will be faster, but will it solve some of the problems I’ve been having in PE9?
    >>Pro is 64bit while PRE9 is 32bit so the scenarios where higher memory is required, PRO will be having advangate of able to use greater than 4GB RAM. However, 64bit version of PRE10 is now available. So performance of Pro & PE10 should be comparable

  • How to get good slow motion w/FCPX?

Okay, so I've been trying to get some good slow motion video. I'm new to this whole video thing, but I'm fortunate enough to be able to have some cool toys even though I don't know how to use them yet! Anyway, here are my questions (prefaced by some details to help you answer my questions!).
    What I'm working with:
    Two cameras
    1) GoPro shooting at 720p, 60 FPS
    2) Canon Vixia HF G10 shooting at 1080i, 60 FPS
    - In case my terminology is wrong, the GoPro shoots in 60p, and the Canon shoots at 60i....not sure the best way to describe it.
    Editing with:
    - FCPX
    - I don't have Motion 5 or Compressor yet, but I can get it if its necessary for any reason
    Goal that I'm working toward:
    - I want to get some smooth "creamy" slow motion footage every now and then when the video I'm making calls for it.
    - Here's a couple examples of the type of slow motion I'm hoping to end up with:
    - (right about at the 3:10 point)
    Problem I'm having:
    - With the GoPro (60p), I can only slow down to 50% speed before it starts to look choppy. Slower than that Optical Flow will work a little bit, but it still looks very amateur.
    - With the Canon (60i, but much higher quality video), I can barely slow it down at all without it looking choppy and sloppy.
    Questions:
    - Am I doing something wrong?
    - Do I need to download other software?
    - Anybody willings to give me a step by step instruction?!
    - I'm stumped...any help will be great!
    Thanks!

I'm a bit short having time for my tests, but what I found out so far.
    • avoid any 'natural motion blurr' in your recordings
    • if optional on your device, select super-short shutter speed (<1/1000th), depending on 'action' in front of cam (ever wondered why those demos are preferred in bright sunlight? )
    • avoid too high 'angle speed' = too fast too close: if the picture content changes too fast btw. frame#1 and frame#2 the eye is not able to blend the content = stutter
    • Optical Flow: excellent on small angle speed, failing on fast angle speed or rotation:
watch my short demo here (YT-link) testing speeds and blending modes:
(recording 720/60p, ~1/1000th shutter speed, Project setting 25p)
    • notice the perfect blending of motion far away from cam (player girl in green)
    • notice the unwanted 'warp' effects around the player in blue close to cam, esp. legs
    • notice the 'wobble' of rotating ball in 10% slowmo ... that is beyond Optical Flows skills
What I've seen so far from the famous TWIXTOR plugin for FCPX/Motion5, it lacks the 'plus' features (e.g. seperating background/layers) and has to be handled as unconvenient as the old version for FC/e (copy/paste clips to lengthen etc). Info: the vers. of Twixtor for FC/e and FC/p differed dramatically!
=> imho, the actual vers. of Twixtor4FCPX isn't worth the 300$ (yepp, three HUNDRED) …
and my personal opinion upon marketing: a plugin shouldn't be more expensive than its host

  • How to import 4K files from new camera JVC GY-HMQ10E in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 ?

Importing in RED format or other ?

I have used a MacMini to download the 4K content (only short clips were willing to download sofar), and then transferred to a PC I was able to get it to play in RED schemes in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.
I am just not sure if this is the right way of doing it.
My current concern for anyone with experience with this camcorder:
How can we download/combine from the 4 SD cards the longer clips too on Windows?
I saw a utility but had some extra requirements that I couldn't figure out yet.

  • Good Premiere pro Cs5.5 Video Editing Computer Set Up For Under $3000

Hey everyone im hopeing to hear for Harm Millaard input on this and anyone elses who understands PC computers for video editing. I need to build a computer set up for my specific needs. I am a youtuber who makes videos for a living and I need a speedy computer for editing primarily in premiere pro CS5.5 and sometimes in After effects. I use magic bullet 2.0 color grading in almost all my videos so that slows my computer down alot. The current computer I have now shuts off when ever it runs to much stuff and gives me the BSOD so its extreemly fusterating because editing something small can take me all day because of the constent shutting off. Mostly does BSOD when I uses Magic Bullet 2.0 I shoot with DSLR footage but once in a while it will happen out of the blue when running alot of things but mostly when exporting. I need a list of specs that will all work together to give a perfect workflow for my needs and I also would like advice on what Raid because I dont fully understand it as well as what back up drives etc should I have. I plan of buying the specs and having someone build it for me and set up raid etc that knows how to do all that. In case some of you wonder what type of computer I have now these are the specs if you need more information on what I have in my computer ask exactly what info you want to me to tell you and ill look it up.
If you have advice on specs I dont have to re-buy that I could take out of this computer to save money then that would be better as well. I currently have no back up external drives as well so Idk what I should buy for that as well. Thank you all for your time a head of time!

Well!!!!.....where do I start??  You must spend some time here reading all the valuable info that has been presented and discussed many times here. Basically, PPro is a very demanding , PROFESSIONAL program that needs beefy and SPECIFIC hardware to run properly.
AMD CPU will not cut it.....it lacks the necessary instruction set that Intel has that apply to video processing.
You need a fast Intel i7 CPU for starters.
You do not mention video card.....NVidia CUDA card of over 1GB video memory is required to enable the "Mercury PlaybackEngine", which provides a TEN TIMES INCREASE  in rendering speed of previews.....not to mention accelerating the export process by handling some specific effects during export.
Some DSLR codecs,( like Canon MOVs) cause PPro....which is a 64bit program..... to open the 32 bit " Quick time Importer" process, ( as Quick Time is 32 bit), slowing down the process, even with good hardware. Editing highly compressed consumer codecs,( AVCHD,etc.) in real time ,then exporting can be very taxing on a computer, requiring top -notch components. Even if you do it the old way and transcode to a more edit friendly codec before editing.....you would then need a larger, faster disk system to handle the huge files at a high speed!!!
16GB system memory is OK for 5.5.....with 6 and later, 32GB is better.
Two separate hard drives are the required minimum for PPro......currently, the best performing and cheapest setup would be : C drive=  120GB quality SSD, D drive = 2x 7200 RPM HDDs in onboard RAID 0 for pagefile, previews, and all cache files.  E drive= same setup as "D", for media, project files, and export.  F drive =  large 7200 rpm disk for necessary backup of important files and backup of "D" drive. All drives should "indexing" and" compression" turned OFF,( under drive Properties window).
Less expensive would be just three separate 7200 RPM HDDs...that could be OK with just DSLR footage which is so compressed that it requires less actual MB/sec., unless you are using many tracks of video, upping the requirement needed.
Read the many posts and articles by Harm Millard and Bill Gehrke....they have contributed a tremendous wealth of knowledge and experience to the readers.....preventing many from making bad purchases and expensive mistakes when trying to construct a machine that will perform well....their website, PPBM5 is invaluable as it can show you all the video benchmark results of differently configured machines. It is a good guide as to what you may want to build,or, purchase.....Good Luck!!

  • Is Camtasia a good option with Premiere Pro CS5?

As a user of CS5 Production Premium Suite, I have this question:
would TechSmith's Camasia Studio 7 (Screen Recording & Video Editing Software) conflict with Adobe software as mentioned, and especially Premiere Pro CS5 if installed on the same computer (Windows 7 Prof)?

    Hi Jeff,
Your reply was >> With the 64-bit version of TSCC included in Camtasia Studio 7.1, the Camtasia codec works kust fine in CS5.<<
My questions about this are now:
    1.
Is the 64-bit version existing next to a 32-bit version. or how do I have to see this?
I have implemented the free download with 30 days trial of Camtasia Studio 7.1 but I do not remember the system asking me if I wanted to use the 64-bit version. That was on a 32-bit laptop system (not yet on the 64-bit PC system that I use for Premiere Pro (64))
In other words: How do I make sure that the 64-bit version of TSCC is implemented?
    2.
How does the implementation process work for the purchased system?
    May be as follows?
    (a) Download the software from anywhere (e.g. TechSmith website in US or so), which is the same software as that used for free trial periods (?))
    (b) And get software key from any supplier via internet, for instance: softwarecasa (USD 297) or www.camtasiasoftware.com ( EUR 199) or TechSmith Online Store (USD 299), et cetera.
    Thank you for a reply.

  • How do I join multiple (short) audio clips into one single long audio clip in Premiere Pro CS5?

    Hello,
The question is in the title but I'm wondering how I can join multiple (short) audio clips into one single long audio clip in PP CS5.5.  I put all my short clips right next to each other and selected all of them to see what options are available by right clicking and using the toolbar options at the top.  The closest that I got was to nest the sequence, but that's not what I really want.
I'd like to merge all the short clips into one single (long) audio file to use under the video.
Thoughts are welcome and  greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Melvin

O.K. This is kind of fundamental and you will need to learn up on this fully ...but for now...
Make sure you have the WAB ( work area bar )covering the length of the audio clips. ( You do not need to select them)
Go to the File Menu> Export Media
You will be given all the Export Options.  Choose Wave File
Select option for Export Work Area.
Choose where to export the file to ( HD location)
    follow your nose from there....
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-premiere-pro-cs5/exporting-with-adobe-media-encoder/
BTW - Why are you taking the audio to Audition anyway? What are you going to do to it.

in this panel for both clips .please check these clips screen shoots seprately .
Actually i have a long video clip and i have scatterred this clip into 6 diffrent portions
where i am not able to import the last video clip.It is giving me same error "file contain too many audio channels"".
    Regards
    Manoj

I too am getting this error in Premiere CS5.  I was digitizing a Broadcast VHS and since I did not have a breakout box, I hooked it up to a Sony DV deck so I could connect via firewire and capture inside Premiere.  I was able to capture and import 1 of the 3 clips and it did have 4 audio channels attached to it.  However, upon closer inspection only 2 channels had a waveform.  I captured the other 2 clips the same way, but this time, Premiere give the error "The file contains too many audio channels."
    Any ideas?

  • How to work with Premiere Pro cs5.5 and After Effects cs5 together?

I have edited my movie in premiere pro cs5.5 and made the rough cut. In premiere, i have edited the video, put in soundtrack and foley. Now, i need to add muzzle flashes & blood splatters in some scenes and final color correction using After Effects cs5.
When i import the premiere project in AE and make the changes, and then i export it back as premiere project. When i open this prmiere project, it shows vaious kind of errors and no changes are retained that i did in AE. Also, when i import the premiere project (which has 4 different sequences) in AE, all the media that has been imported in the premiere project also opens in AE making it difficult to organize the media.
How should i work now so that i add vfx and color correction using AE cs5?
I thought of exporting the video from Premiere pro and then open the video in AE and add vfx to some scenes and color correction to the full video and render it out again. But, this is the first time i am using AE and i am not sure if this is the best way. PLEASE HELP.
Or, i could import the whole project in AE, add vfx, do color correction AND then export to video from AE. But i think, it will be better if i export the video from Premiere as it has loads of options to choose from while exporting to a movie.
The dynamic link does not work between Premiere Pro Cs5.5 and After Effects cs5. Even if it does, its not working on my pc.
All the footage is in HD and i want the final result in best quality HD too. PLEASE Help!

If you are working between After Effects and Premiere Pro but with versions that are not the same number, you need to just work with movies rendered and exported as intermediate, lossless files.
Dynamic Link only works between After Effects and Premiere Pro of the same version number, and only when they are installed as part of the same suite.

IMHO Windows would be the place to start.
Why do you want to load CS5 for Windows?
Adobe does produce a version of CS5 that runs on OS X so that it would not be necessary for you to have to screw around with Windows. Personally that would be the way to go and avoid the hassles of Windows.
