Premiere Pro CS5 never uses more than 15% of CPU, so, performs much slower than premiere 6.5!

Hello.
I'm doing wedding videos for quite a while. My hardware included DV500DVD card and premiere 6.5, CPU is Core 2 Duo E8400, 2GB of RAM, Windows XP SP1 (DV500 can't work with SP2 or SP3).
The above mentioned system is quite old, and absolutely not usable for HD videos. So, I've decided to build another machine. The configuration is as follows:
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
M/B: Asus LGA 1155, H67 chipset.
CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K
RAM: 4GB DDR3
HDD: 2x 64GB SSD, 4 x 2TB SATA (RAID) (All HDDs connected to separate PCI-E controller, so intel chipset flaw is not an issue here)
I've recently downloaded and installed the trial version of Premiere Pro CS5, to see, how it suits to my needs. And I'm very dissapointed. I've started premiere, selected DV-widescreen preset, inserted two static pictures on timeline, and did an alpha blend between them. Then put movie to export. Not only it took way too long time to render, but it only used single core, and cpu usage is only 15% ! Just for curiosity, I've installed premiere 6.5 on same system, and it did that task about 10 times faster!
What is this, limitation of trial version, or just Premiere Pro CS5 can't be used with this modern CPU ?
Thanks in advance,
Alex

First off 4GB of ram is really to low for CS5. CS5 is 64 bit for a reason and requires far more ram. 2nd, what video card are you using?
As for the opteron system the other poster listed, you could get the lower end Intel platform and easily out perform that opteron system. A Geforce 450GTS video card would out perform that Quadro by 2 or 3 times and that card is barely over $100.
No offence but you can't run CS5 on minimal or very old specifications and expect the same results as everyone else or older software. If you can't upgrade the hardware then I suggest staying with the previous version until you can. The MPE engine requires allot of resources to function especially ram and your lower spec or older system will just bottleneck the pipeline rather than speed things up.

  • Why does this forum perform much slower than form forum in metalink?

I feel strongly that this forum performs much slower than the form forum in metalink where there are even more active and more issues created there.
I don't know why Oracle creates two form forum, which one is faster and another one is slower.
What is the difference b/w them besides here is jsp pages and over there is plsql pages?

Oracle certainly allows you to have users that do not have roles. Or users that don't have any system privileges. Or users that don't have any object privileges.
If you want the query to return a row for every row in DBA_USERS, you would need to outer join all the other tables to DBA_USERS.

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 using 50% of processor to Render?

I just downloaded and installed Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 and when I go to render video it only uses 50% of the processors power. I haven't had this problem in CS5. Is there some kind of setting I need to change? Any help will be great, thanks!

  • I'm on a Mac and have downloaded Premiere Pro but never used it. Now I can't find it under applications.

I have CC and have been a long time user of PS and LR software. Now I'm going to transition to Adobe Premiere (already downloaded) from FCPX but I can't
find Premiere Pro anywhere on my computer.

    Hey Chuck,
Is the application in your Applications folder? If not, you have not yet downloaded it.

  • How Can I Improve Mavericks Performance (much slower than 10.8)?

When I upgraded to OS 10.9, I immediately saw a significant slower performance than with 10.8 or 10.7 (which I had been using for about two years). One big difference was a delay with the boot disc thrashing a lot when I started the computer and when I launched any app. That is, after starting my Mac Pro (2008), once the windows are all visible, there is a 30+ second delay (with the boot disc thrashing a lot) before it responds. A very similar thing happens when I launch any app. For example, when I launch iPhoto, after the photos appear, it takes 30+ seconds before it reponds to any mouse clicks. Under 10.7 and 10.8, there was about a 5 second delay (which I always thought was Faces doing its thing). This disc thrashing and delay before the app will respond happens with every app (Word, iMovie, Disc Utility, etc.) These delays never occured under 10.7 or 10.8.
A few people on the Apple Support forum suggested I run EtreCheck and remove various apps that they said could cause a problem with the OS. I removed every app they suggested, but I do not see any difference in performance. In my opinion, OS 10.9 has implemented something new that is causing my Mac Pro to run much slower.
I just ran a Safe Boot (using shift key while starting). I don't see any difference.
    I would appreciate any advice.

First, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Outlook 2010 performance much slower than 2007 and 2003 when used with POP3 mail provider over slow network connection

When received messages include embedded pictures, Outlook 2010 does not persist those pictures in the .pst file with the message text.  Instead, it redownloads the pictures every time the message is rendered for viewing or printing.
Send/Receive to replicate a message with multiple embedded pictures from POP3 mail server (not Exchange server)
Select and view the message - notice all the x placeholders for the embedded pictures
Right-click any x placeholder and select to "download pictures"
After some delay, the pictures are rendered, replacing the placeholders, to form the complete message
Now, select "File" and "Print" -- notice that the preview is not immediately displayed.  There is a delay while thos same embedded pictures are downloaded, again.  Sometimes there will be a pop-up notification that Outlook is "communicating with
    the server"
Eventually the message is fully rendered with all embedded pictures
Now, select a different printer -- notice that the preview disappears and it takes time to .... yes, redownload those same pictures, again.
Finally, click on "Print" -- notice yet another delay for a final download to rerender the message for the printer.
Having done all that, close Outlook, disconnect from the network (turn off wireless or disconnect wire), open Outlook and view that same message.  The x placeholders are shown instead of the embedded pictures.  Although those embedded pictures
were downloaded multiple times already, they were not persisted locally.
Outlook 2003 and 2007 correct ask for confirmation to save the pictures locally then does so.  Printing and viewing is then possible without having to redownload those pictures.
Is there going to be a fix for this Outlook 2010 defect?   I've been waiting, applying updates, and waiting.....

Please do not close this thread.  The issue remains.  I apologize for not checking back sooner.  I thought I would get pinged by email when this tread was updated;  I did not.  I'll monitor more closely in the future.
First, please note that I explicitly set Outlook to NOT download pictures automatically.  I want to be prompted to download.  However, after confirmed that I want the download, I expect pictures related to the message to be downloaded only once,
immediately after I confirm that I want them downloaded.
I have confirmed many times that the behavior in this area is NOT identical between 2003, 2007 and 2010.  In particular, 2007 does download once and store locally (if user confirms to save changes when prompted), as expected, and 2010 downloads each
    view/preview/print.
This is quite easy to verify -- simply unplug any network cable, disable wireless, etc.  In other words completely detach from the networked world.  2007 will correctly view/preview/etc. from local storage whereas 2010 always reverts to showing
placeholders for any embedded images.  This is 100% repeatable.
As an additional verification, simply move the .pst file to another system that is not connected to any network.  Open the .pst file with 2007 and any embedded images that were already downloaded (and saved) are there, with 2010 they are not.
With 2010, it is bad enough that embedded images are not saved for viewing when disconnected.  Worse than that, the repeated downloads can be a significant disruption to performance.  Just get on a really slow wireless connection as is typical
in some hotels.  Then try to view and print messages with lots of embedded pictures.  Slow takes on a whole new, even slower, meaning.
This 2010 defect has been reproduced.  Is there a KB article, Windows Update, hotfix,.... anything available to eliminate this problem of repeated downloads of embedded pictures?

  • Computer Freezes during Playback, Render and Scrubbing in Premiere Pro CS5.5

Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium (with all updates)
My problem occurs only in Premiere Pro CS5.5 and not with any other Adobe programs, including After Effects.  Playback, scrubbing, or rendering in my Premiere Pro timeline causes the computer to freeze.  When it freezes I cannot move the mouse, I cannot use the keyboard, there is no automatic shutdown, and there is no BSOD.  The computer just freezes, forever, and needs to be shutdown manually.
This problem began a few weeks ago, only happening occassionaly.  Recently the problem has escalated to the point that I cannot use Premiere Pro CS5.5 for more than 30 seconds before it freezes.
I have several different Premiere Pro projects saved to a 1TB WD Black Caviar HDD.  In some of the projects I am using Cineform converted .mov files and in others I am using the raw(compressed) footage directly from a Canon DSLR.  This dedicated harddrive has 60% free space.
Mercury PLayback Acceleration is enabled, and I have been successfully using Premiere and the rest of the creative suite intensively since October 2011 with absolutely NO problems.  I cannot remember the system ever crashing once during this time period, until now, which is remarkable.  All software on my computer is legitimate, and there are no third party codecs installed.
What can I do to fix this problem?  All help is extremely appreciated.  THANK-YOU!
    Drew Norton

Thank you, Harm I will do this.  In response to the video card being a possible cause of the problem,  I moved forward and downloaded Furmark to test it.  When running Furmark the program crashes.  It gets going on the test and crashes, and apparently according to other websites this means my graphics card is not running at capacity.  Do any of you have experience with this?
If it is as clean cut as a busted graphics card I would be very excited to know.

  • Move to Premiere Pro CS5.5?

    Dear Steve:
I think your book about Premiere Elements 9 is great.  It’s been very helpful as I try to learn the program.
I have a 64-bit Windows 7 operating system on Dell XPS laptop with 8gb of RAM.  I learned yesterday that PE9 uses only 4gb of RAM or less because it is a 32-bit program.
I would like to consider moving up to Premiere Pro CS5.5 (I get an educational discount) to increase how much RAM is used.  Would you please answer a few questions?
    1)  If I install Premiere Pro on my machine, will it be able to work with videos created in PE9?
I am in the middle of a project (25 clips, video about 7 minutes).  I am concerned that I won’t be able to have PE9 and Pro on my computer at the same time, and if Pro doesn’t read PE9 files, I’ll have to uninstall Pro to finish the project.
    2)  I assume the Pro version will be faster, but will it solve some of the problems I’ve been having in PE9?
    a)  difficulty regulating audio levels even using key frames and the audio panel
    b)  some rough spots in the narration even after rendering (I use a mike that is plugged into the mike jack with a mini-plug.  I don’t use a USB mike).
    c)  thought bubbles bouncing around
    d)  difficulty selecting the text box when doing titles.  If I don’t hit just the right spot, it becomes the text editor and I have to try again to select the text box
    3)  Although I have 8gb of RAM, my video card has only 1gb.  Will that still allow a lot of improvement in performance if I go to Premiere Pro?
    4)  With an educational discount, I can get Premiere Pro for $345.   Do you see any reason (based on what I’ve said above) not to get it?
Thanks.  Would you please respond to the e-mail as well as the forum:  [email protected]
    Richard

    >>You can install both Premiere Elements & PRO at the same time even launch and work with both the apps simultaneously.
    2)  I assume the Pro version will be faster, but will it solve some of the problems I’ve been having in PE9?
    >>Pro is 64bit while PRE9 is 32bit so the scenarios where higher memory is required, PRO will be having advangate of able to use greater than 4GB RAM. However, 64bit version of PRE10 is now available. So performance of Pro & PE10 should be comparable

    >> Pls check in Pro forum. you will see improvements in the area where the application uses GPU card. I think Pro uses this for preview and few other stuff.
    4)  With an educational discount, I can get Premiere Pro for $345.   Do you see any reason (based on what I’ve said above) not to get it?

  • Why does my entire computer freeze while opening or using After Effects or Premiere Pro CS5?

Just built a computer to meet all requirements for Adobe, Autodesk 3ds Max, and UDK, for school.
    Specs;
    Motherboard - ASRock X79 Extreme 4-M, Socket 2011 - Micro ATX - 4 DDR3 1600/1333/1066/800 - 3 PCI-E 3.0 x 16 - 7.1 CH HD Audio - PCIE GLAN - 3 SATA3 - eSATA3 - 4 SATA2 - 4 USB 3.0 - 10 USB 2.0
    Processor - Intel Core i7 Processor - i7-3820 LGA 2011
Processor fan - Intel Thermal Solution RTS2011 AC
    RAM - Ballistix by Crucial - 2x  8GB Tactical PC3 - 12800 CL8 1.5 VW/XMP = 16GB RAM
    SSD - Crucial M4 SSD 128GB - Comptatibility with 6Gb/s & backward compatible with SATA 3Gb/s
    HDD - Seagate Barracuda 1TB - 7200 RPM up to 32mb cache
Power Supply - Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus 700W
Graphics Card - EVGA - NVIDIA GeForce GTX480 - DirectX11 - CUDA - OpenCL Support - PhysX Technology - OpenGL 4.1 (so says the box it came in; but if I'm not mistaken I think the command prompt had shown OpenGL 3 or 3.2)
Disc Driver - LG DVD/CD RW... It is an OEM, Windows claims it is updated.
I use an external component - USB Microsoft Wireless Mouse & Keyboard 2000.
I have, as far as software goes...
    Windows 7 64-bit SP1
Adobe Creative Suite 5, student version or what have you.
         - I do have several plugins installed as well for After Effects only.
    Autodesk 3ds Max 2012
-I have several maxscripts as well as a couple plugins for 3ds Max.
    UDK 2-2012 & 3-2012
    NVIDIA PhysX Lab 1.1
    NVIDIA Texture Tools 2
    NVIDIA plugin for Photoshop
    xNormal
    ConTEXT
    UnCodeX
    Quicktime
    AVG Free
    Malwarebytes
    7-Zip
    Java
    Sculptris
As for anything else giving me issues I haven't noticed anything besides a previous Graphics Card wasn't supported very well at all with 3ds Max, it would freeze while using the material editor which was fixed with replacing a GTX550 ti with a more compatible GTX480. Thought maybe the upgrade would also solve the fact that almost everytime I go to start up and/or use After Effects or Premiere Pro CS5 my whole system freezes. Whether or not I'm doing anything, it occasionally happened during "Scrubbing" the timeline, but also during the splash load up screen. Would take the time to wait for several minutes but nothing would change. Hard reboot was needed. After countless hours of searching online I stumbled upon what is called an "Unlock" for Premiere Pro/After Effects to allow accelerated GPU and CUDA cores. Simple procedure, seems as if things go faster... When it is working. But still, I encounter freezes on my entire system. It isn't a crash back to Windows or anytihng. Just a complete freeze on the entire system. I have not extensively used other Adobe programs besides Photoshop quite briefly just so I could open menus and force a freeze within 5 minutes and noticed nothing wrong. Which in AE & PP just running through any of the menu windows can quickly cause a sudden freeze.
note* I have alternated shutting off and turning on OpenGL as well as multiprocessing. Doesn't matter, it really doesn't seem to change much of anything.
Alas, I am absolutely sure, after checking and re-checking 80+ hours over the past 2 weeks that yes, everything is updated as far as each individual program, software or hardware will allow me to update them. I have reinstalled Windows as well as each program up to 3 times, and 1 system (restore?) I had Windows dump everything, started from scratch, backed up nothing. To reinstall everything from scratch, while not installed several "Utilities" or software components from stuff like the Motherboard and its XFAST USB/LAN or whatever, thinking maybe it was cluttering up anything.
Please, if anyone has any ideas upon this and could give me advice, whether you notice any other incompatibilities or anything. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
note* I do not have a wired Keyboard or mouse to disable the USB plugin and attempt that route.. at least not yet, its on my list of things to do. Also, I did run Memtest86+ during a boot and it claims that everything there had passed 100%. I am not "overclocking" anything either. I just wanted something I could work smoothly on, that would have decent rendering capabilities. I used to use my girls' laptop which was an HP with 3GB RAM and never experienced crashes or freezes and I could use AE, PPro, 3ds Max with some lag but not any issues. Rendering took forever on it, but I usually avoided that 'cuz it would start heating up pretty fierce. Saved my rendering for school computers where I could. But either way, now I have this expensive piece and it is getting frustrating that I cannot work on it.
note* Also, incase it does help, I have Windows as well as any major components installed onto the C: drive (aka SSD for my system) while all my secondary software, such as Adobe, Autodesk, etc. are all installed directly to my D: drive (or HDD) And everything is set up to go through Windows Firewall as well.

Thanks all. I have just tried a few things, installing them onto the C drive as you all specified as not being one of them. I can understand it, but at the same time i have a classmate who has their software on a seperate drive and it runs smoothe. I'm on my second GPU in 2 weeks, unless I have terrible luck it seems doubtful being that I can run games and a majority of the software no problem. Through further testing around with a corded mouse and keyboard I've noticed the following...
The computer freezes entirely only when I'm performing a "scrubbing" action or using a mouse. Left clicking, scrolling, or moving it around. Otherwise if I do not use the mouse and I make all my actions, such as "scrubbing" in AE via "Page Up & Down" keys, there's no freeze and it preloads the preview no problem.
"Scrubbing" does not load a preview (the green bar doesn't load at all while scrubbing). But, also noticed no matter how smoothe everything is running in 3ds Max as well as PPro, once I start performing a "scrubbing" action with whatever timeline I use, it will definately freeze my whole computer, Windows and all. Hard reboot is neeed.
With having gone through 2 GPU's, done a full memtest via Windows 7 and Memtest86+, there seems to be no issue with my memory or GPU. Like I said, I've run UDK without an issue. Whether the editor or game. The USB doesn't seem like it's the cause, I've used both wireless as well as wired keyboards/mouse. Still freezes, but now only when using a mouse to "Scrub".
Is it possible my motherboard could be incompatible somewhere? I mean, really.. everything is brand new but 2 weeks of troubleshooting.
And I do plan on trying to run my software off the C drive, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something else, like I said, I've seen and used a computer where it all runs off the D drive and it runs perfectly, actually better on his computer than off the C drive at my schools. So if it is an issue would it lie within the fact that I'm using an Nvidia GPU? Considering my classmate is using a AMD/ATI Radeon or something like that.
Again, to those who replied, your shared knowledge is greatly appreciated, thank you.

  • New in Premiere Pro CS5. Questions: markers, shortcuts, keyframes, and more!

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I'm an editor from Argentina, with background in Avid media Composer, but I'm switching to premiere pro cs5 for a new job. I was highly and happily surprised with it. But, there's still a couple of things I haven't quite got right, yet.
So, a couple of newbie questions... you'll save me a lot of time if you can answer some of them.
    Markers
1a. Can I use markers with different colors?
1b. Is there a way to select more than one marker and delete them at the same time? Of course, with out deleting all of them, just the ones I need.
1c. How can I set up a shortcut for going to next\previous clip marker in the timeline? In shortcuts, I go to Marker>Go go Clip marker> and select a shortcut, but in the timeline it goes nowhere. I have made this work for sequence markers in the timeline, and this shortcut also work for going next\previous marker on a clip in the source monitor.
1d. How can I extend a marker in the timeline? I know I can set the duration of the marker in the pop up menu... but if there a way to do it directly in the timeline?
    Razor Tool
    2. A simple one. After I've used the razor tool on a clip... how can I join the clip again?
    Track Select Tool
    3. Can the Track Select Tool, select all the clips to the LEFT, instead of all the clips to the right? In avid there's a Select Right command, which works as the track selector, but there's also a Select Left command, which does the same, but to the left.
    Audio Master Meters
4.Another simple one. Can I put this in a horizontal way? It'll fit perfectly in the tool bar then.
    Tab sizes
5.Can the tab size be modified? I have "Media browser", "Info", "History", "Effects" all docked... but the size of the panel is such that I can never see the four tabs at once, I have to drag the little bar at the top. Can I have the tabs be smaller so that I can see the four of them... as if they said "Media.." "inf.." "hist".."eff"... instead of wasting space with long tab names?
    Keyframes
    6. Is there a shortcut to add one? Where is it in the shorcut configuration? I know I can put them with the Pen Tool, I need a shortcut to replace the "add/remove keyframe" button on the tracks in the timeline.
6b.How can I snap the current time indicator to a shortcut in the timeline?
6c. Can I lazo multiple keyframes?
    Audio While Scrubbing
    7. In Preferences>Audio>Play Audio While Scrubbing I can select that on and off. How can I set a shortcut for that?
Well... that was A LOT! Sorry for so many questions. Hopefully they can help other new users.

    From the top:
1a. No; but you can set numbered markers, for both clips and the sequence.
1b. No; you can delete one or all.
1c. You have to select the clip in order to activate the command.
1d. You can only do this in the Marker dialog.
    2. No direct way to do this. Delete either the portion before or after the edit, and then extend the clip to fill the gap. Clunky, yes.
    3. No, the Track Select tool only operates to the right.
    4. Audio meters are vertical only.
    5. The tab size matches the title of the tab; no way to change this.
    6a. No keyframe shortcut.
6b. It doesn't work in the Timeline panel, but in the Effects Controls panel, you can hold down Shift to snap the CTI as you drag.
6c. You can lasso multiple keyframes in the Effects Controls panel with the standard selection tool, or you can use the Pen tool in the Timeline panel. Just be sure to start within the graphical representation of the clip.
    7. No, it's only a program preference.
Sorry that so many of them are negative! Be sure to file feature requests for anything that you'd like to see: Adobe Feature Request/Bug Report Form

  • Why is Premiere Pro CS5 slower on my system than Premiere Pro CS 4?

I just upgraded from Production Premium CS4 to Production Premium CS5.  Have Windows 7, 64 bit OS, 9 GB ram,
Intel I-7 quad 2.67 processors (over clocked to 2.90 ghz) with hyperthreading.  I have nothing of any real substance
operating on my system besides Adobe.  I have just loaded in a ton of DVC PRO HD 60 footage and am editing a 30 minute
program.  Once I am in Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5, it works fairly well, everything works well real time.  However, the moment
I click outside of Premiere Pro like to my desktop, then try to click back into Premier Pro, my screen goes white, Premiere Pro says
"not responding" in the title bar and everything freezes for about a solid minute.  CS 4 did not do this at all.  Anyone know what is happening?
    Tks. eddiem

Thank you Harm for the info so far.   I appreciate it.  Seeing that this is an issue, let me give you a little more data than I might normally do in the hopes of helping to resolve this issue and possibly, you will be able to distill from this something of use for all of us.
I tried out what you said to do, clicking in the timeline first or even while the blue wheel is in motion, but it makes very little difference.  Let me give you a little more info.  As an attempt to have resolved this which I have not, I am essentially working offline and the problem still persists.  I have internet connection disabled, I have all anti-virus and firewalls turned off, I have gone through the task manager and have ended every single process not essential to running Premiere Pro CS5.
All it takes is for me to click on the desktop with nothing open and then click back to the Premiere Pro CS5 window whether it be in the timeline or anywhere and I get the blue circle going.  When I do what you say, even while the blue wheel is going, and I try to click on the timeline, the premiere pro window goes white with the blue wheel still going and locks up for at least a minute.
Some other outpoints that may be related to the same issue:
Additionally, when using the media browser and I double click on the P2 media thumbnails to bring the media to the source window, I get a long delay
to load the footage.  Usually about 10-15 seconds for EACH piece just to view it.  Needless to say, this makes editing essentially impossible. I have also tried settings on the memory preferences section changing between "performance" and "memory" not really knowing if that would have anything to do with it, but it didn't.
Another mysterious thing is that my editing tools window never shows up even, even when I reset the editing workspace (window-workspace-reset current workspace (with "editing" bulleted).  I have to manually open up the window and then drag and drop it back to its normal place each time.
Needless to say this is making the experience terrible.
I checked my loaded and running programs to further resolve this to make sure I did not have some unknown system drain, and happened to see I still had the old Production Premium CS 3 installed but not running, so I uninstalled that and it made no difference.  It hadn't been running anyway.
What is frustrating, Harm, is that my Premiere Pro CS4 was running great.  When I started working with P2 media on CS 4 on the same system, I had noticed a similar lag in loading P2 media which I thought was odd, but I NEVER had the delay and blue wheel and white screen clicking from one application to another.  The only time on CS4 I even experience a slow was when I had PPro4, AE4, AME4 and Encore 4 all opened at the same time!
Funny thing though, when I have Premiere Pro CS5 and AE CS 5 opened, AE runs fine, but Premiere seems to be hog and is just slow.  I never have a problem going in and out of the other Production Premium applications.
I am using an Asus computer, with Intel Core i7 processor 920 @ 2.67ghz.  I have standard overclocking software, and when I overclocked my processor to run as an i7-940-2.93 ghz, that lag on the loading the P2 media into the source window went away on CS4.
However, since being on CS5 it now does the same thing.
It is so bad that I thought I okay I will go back to CS 4.  However, now when I try to use CS 4, it is doing the same thing, yet this did not do that before installation of CS5!
Let me give you just one more bit of data in the hopes that it may help in resolving this.  The way I installed Production Premium CS 5 was first via
the trial software.  While that was downloading, I purchased the software and I installed the serial number at the time of installation.  The reason I mention this is that before I purchased it, I was interested in seeing if CS5 would handle a codec problem I was experiencing going from premiere pro to encore DVD ( this will be the subject of another thread) and I was assured by the salesman it would (it didn't) and that the trial software is fully functional!
Well, that is untrue, and the salesmen and the sales supervisors (spoke to them all) are very seriously misinformed.  The Trial version is NOT fully functional, however, you do not find out about it until you actually get the download page and then it clearly says in small print that encore and various HD codecs are not operational as well as some AE aspects on the trial version.
The reason I tell you this is that I don't know if installing via the trial software version makes any difference in how it sets up.
The significance of this is that I was told that Premiere Pro, After Effects and Encore build upon CS4 and you cannot uninstall CS 4 before loading the upgrade to CS5 nor should you uninstall it afterwards.
So this now possibly explains why the previous CS 4 I have on the system is also now responding just like CS5.  (I don't know if it makes any difference, but CS5 installed Premiere Pro, After Effects and Encore in the C:\Window\Programs folder yet all other components are installed in the C:\Windows\Programs(86) folder.  (My dynamic links work fine (so far) between Premiere and AE and Encore)
Okay, Harm, sorry I wrote so much but possibly this will help, and I hope there is something I can do immediately to resolve these serious delay (lag) issues.
PS:  I have three internal hard drives.  CS5 is installed on the C drive same as my OS and all my footage and premiere pro pjts are saved onto a different drive. Everything is 7200 rpm, 1TB,  Sata 3Gb/s..  Except the internal drive where the PrPro Pjts and footage are stored is 2TB , 7200 RPM and 6Gb/s.

Instead of spending money on an SSD, use the savings from a conventional 7200 SATA disk to get an Intel i7-9xx instead of AMD. Your PSU is pretty weak with a GTX 470, 850 W seems much better. Increase memory to 12 GB (3 x 4GB) and add a third disk. Use Win7 64 Pro instead of Home.
AMD is too slow for AVCHD because of the lacking SSE4.1+ instructions. Look at the PPBM5 Benchmark to see how AMD's do in comparison to Intel.
Look at some posts here to see what a decent system is.

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 has never started up... error message every time. Help please?

    Hi...
I recently bought the Production Premium CS5.5 suite.
Most of the programs work. (I haven't tried ALL of them. But the main ones -- Photoshop CS5.1 and After Effects -- work flawlessly.)
But Premiere Pro CS5.5.0 doesn't open. Keeps giving me the good old error message: 'Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 has stopped working'. This is happening every time I try to open it. And it never gets past the opening screen. This is MIGHTY frustrating. And there seems to be no coherent advice on the matter anywhere on the Adobe Forums. Might just be that I haven't spotted it.
    I'm running a Fujitsu Lifebook T901, using Win 7 64bit Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
    Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2620M CPU @ 2.70GHz, 2701 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date FUJITSU // Phoenix Technologies Ltd. Version 1.04, 2011/02/17
    8 gigs of RAM.
Please guys... what do I do?
    Operating System: Windows 7
Printer model / driver version: Intel HD Graphics Family
Video display card / driver version: 8.15.10.2246
Has it ever worked? If so, what's changed? (provide comments in description field): No

Same results with different computer?: Not Applicable
Recent System Hardware or Software change?: No

One problem appears to be that your T901 does not meet the minimum specification for Premiere CS5 - according to the Fujitsu specification sheet, its screen resolution is too low at 1280 x 800 - the minimum required is 1280 x 900.
