Premiere Pro CS5 Rendert Video Previews ins scheinbar Unendliche
Hi,
seit einigen Wochen hab ich bei nem größeren Projekt ein Problem:
an Video

Good Premiere pro Cs5.5 Video Editing Computer Set Up For Under $3000
Hey everyone im hopeing to hear for Harm Millaard input on this and anyone elses who understands PC computers for video editing. I need to build a computer set up for my specific needs. I am a youtuber who makes videos for a living and I need a speedy computer for editing primarily in premiere pro CS5.5 and sometimes in After effects. I use magic bullet 2.0 color grading in almost all my videos so that slows my computer down alot. The current computer I have now shuts off when ever it runs to much stuff and gives me the BSOD so its extreemly fusterating because editing something small can take me all day because of the constent shutting off. Mostly does BSOD when I uses Magic Bullet 2.0 I shoot with DSLR footage but once in a while it will happen out of the blue when running alot of things but mostly when exporting. I need a list of specs that will all work together to give a perfect workflow for my needs and I also would like advice on what Raid because I dont fully understand it as well as what back up drives etc should I have. I plan of buying the specs and having someone build it for me and set up raid etc that knows how to do all that. In case some of you wonder what type of computer I have now these are the specs if you need more information on what I have in my computer ask exactly what info you want to me to tell you and ill look it up.
If you have advice on specs I dont have to re-buy that I could take out of this computer to save money then that would be better as well. I currently have no back up external drives as well so Idk what I should buy for that as well. Thank you all for your time a head of time!Well!!!!.....where do I start?? You must spend some time here reading all the valuable info that has been presented and discussed many times here. Basically, PPro is a very demanding , PROFESSIONAL program that needs beefy and SPECIFIC hardware to run properly.
AMD CPU will not cut it.....it lacks the necessary instruction set that Intel has that apply to video processing.
You need a fast Intel i7 CPU for starters.
You do not mention video card.....NVidia CUDA card of over 1GB video memory is required to enable the "Mercury PlaybackEngine", which provides a TEN TIMES INCREASE in rendering speed of previews.....not to mention accelerating the export process by handling some specific effects during export.
Some DSLR codecs,( like Canon MOVs) cause PPro....which is a 64bit program..... to open the 32 bit " Quick time Importer" process, ( as Quick Time is 32 bit), slowing down the process, even with good hardware. Editing highly compressed consumer codecs,( AVCHD,etc.) in real time ,then exporting can be very taxing on a computer, requiring top -notch components. Even if you do it the old way and transcode to a more edit friendly codec before editing.....you would then need a larger, faster disk system to handle the huge files at a high speed!!!
16GB system memory is OK for 5.5.....with 6 and later, 32GB is better.
Two separate hard drives are the required minimum for PPro......currently, the best performing and cheapest setup would be : C drive= 120GB quality SSD, D drive = 2x 7200 RPM HDDs in onboard RAID 0 for pagefile, previews, and all cache files. E drive= same setup as "D", for media, project files, and export. F drive = large 7200 rpm disk for necessary backup of important files and backup of "D" drive. All drives should "indexing" and" compression" turned OFF,( under drive Properties window).
Less expensive would be just three separate 7200 RPM HDDs...that could be OK with just DSLR footage which is so compressed that it requires less actual MB/sec., unless you are using many tracks of video, upping the requirement needed.
Read the many posts and articles by Harm Millard and Bill Gehrke....they have contributed a tremendous wealth of knowledge and experience to the readers.....preventing many from making bad purchases and expensive mistakes when trying to construct a machine that will perform well....their website, PPBM5 is invaluable as it can show you all the video benchmark results of differently configured machines. It is a good guide as to what you may want to build,or, purchase.....Good Luck!! -
Premiere Pro CS5: Unable to preview
I just installed Premiere Pro CS5 on my Macbook Pro. I'm currently trying to test it out to see how well it will run on the laptop. I'm having some problem with previewing the video. It will only preview a couple seconds of the clip then stop. I'm wondering if this is due to the new requirements by the Mercury Engine, or if it's something else. I have tried to knock down the preview resolution to half and still nothing. I should say that I am only working on DV footage, and I'm running Snow Leopard with 2 gb of RAM. I have had no problem using past versions of Premiere Pro with this set up.
I am having same problem on my Mac Pro - Snow Leopard 2.93 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon - 8GB ram - ATI Radeon HD 4870 graphics card. I hit the space bar to playback movie -plays for a few frames and stops. I also have a 17" Mac book pro 2.8 GHz Intel core 2 Duo 6GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. no problems running Premiere Pro. I have uninstalled and re-installed twice on the Mac Pro - each time file permissions were all screwed up - fixed them but playback problem remains. Anyone have ideas on how to solve problem?
I took the plunge and called Adobe support( 2-1/2 hrs.on the phone). It seems this issue is one of permissions. After going through all of the things I had already done with the tech guy - changing the permissions of all of the applications folders and the preference folders and then deleting the preferences files - I was told to open a root account and login as root. Then open all of the Adobe programs in the root account that I was having trouble with-( in my case the timelines in Premiere and Sound Booth were not working and the sound files in Encore were not playing ) When I did this they all worked perfectly ( apparently logging in as root fixed the permission issues ). Then I was told to restart and login into my admin account. That seemed to do it. Good Luck - Hope that will help you - Darma-Me -
Adobe Premiere Pro crashes on video preview
Hello,
I was recently working on a project and had Premiere Pro opened, then I had to update my video card drivers, because I had all sort of visual glitches in my games, occasionally when watching movies and the drivers were completely crashing every now and then. At some point during the update my screen went all azure-colored and my computer was completely non-responsive, so I had to restart it, after some waiting. After which the drivers appear to have been installed correctly but when I tried to start Premiere it crashed after loading my project. After a reinstall the same thing kept on occurring, it turned out premiere can start by itself with no problems and even import video files, but the moment I put the video file on the preview window, either by dragging it or by putting it in the timeline, Premiere crashes.
My stupid video card is "SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X R9 270X 2G G5", like I said I updated the drivers, because it was causing problems, it is still uncertain if the update fixed those issues, but now I have a problem with Premiere, which was working fine before that.
I also cleared the media caches, no effect. The crash occurs with any video file, not just with my last project.
Any ideas? Will do, however in the meantime I found out Premiere works fine if in a new project I set the rendering to be only software, without the GPU, also in all cases audio import, preview and playback are unaffected.
I was sort of hoping I could play games AND rend video, what are the chances of that? -
Premiere Pro CS 4 Video Preview
I have upgraded after much deliberation from Premiere Pro CS2 to the new Premiere Pro CS4 and have a major issue. Hope someone in the usergroup can assist with this.
I am running an AMD Athlon 2.8 with 2ghz RAM, terrabyte drive (IDE), 256 MG AGP Nvideo GeForce graphics card.
The issue is that when I capture a video project and want to edit it there is nothing in the preview window selected. I can drag the footage to the timeline and again, in the second window there is nothing when playing back. However, when I stop playback and click in the preview window the last frame is displayed.
I can play again, audio works fine, but no video playback is rendered in the window.
I never had any issues with CS2 working in this manner. The above issue also occurs when a (working) CS2 project is opened in CS4 (after converting). I have also read other forums about the 12bit 32 kHz and 16bit 48 kHz properties of Avi files but have tried different settings from my Sony camera without any change in results.
Many thanks. Thanks for the suggestions but alas no luck.
I have updated Windows XP SP3 with all current updates.
I have downloaded and updated the Nvidia GeforceFX5500 drivers (which were the ones I was using)
I updated direct x to the latest version.
OpenGL is not available or I don't know how to configure it. Noticed this was greyed out in Photoshop and unable to select it.
Also captured new footage with CS4 without success after it was conformed as suggested.
I have no issues with CS2 which I have put back on the machine.
Neither the source or preview windows display video footage with cs2 captured files, cs4 captured files, imported avi files. But, noticed that if I created titles and imposed over static images they will display in the preview window but once it gets to captured footage it stops on the last frame of the title image. The audio continues but the video does not. -

What is a CODEC... a Primer http://forums.adobe.com/thread/546811
What CODEC is INSIDE that file? http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing
For PC http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ or http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
http://blogs.adobe.com/premiereprotraining/2011/02/red-yellow-and-green-render-bars.html
If you have a red line over the timeline after importing a video and before adding any effects... your project is wrong for your video... read above about codecs
Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project

The Premiere Pro CS5 Supported Video Project file formats include:
PREL (Adobe Premiere Elements project) (Windows Only)
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premiere...a568-8000.html
and we know that the Premiere Elements project file is a project.prel.
Yet if you read the Premiere Elements 10 ReadMe, you see there the statement:
"You cannot import Adobe Premiere Elements 10.0 project into Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 or CS 5.5.".
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/907/cpsid_90745.html
The Premiere Elements 9.0 ReadMe has a similar statement about its prel file and Premiere Pro CS5/CS5.5.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/863/cpsid_86324.html
I am wondering if the person who wrote that into the ReadMe forgot to add "for Mac".
Can anyone with both Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 or 10.0 AND Premiere Pro CS5 or CS5.5 (all Windows) confirm what is written in the ReadMe for these version? I do not have Premiere Pro (any version) to confirm and refute what is written in those ReadMe and am looking for someone who has been there and looked at that.
Thanks for any input on this matter.
ATRATR,
I am still using XP-Pro SP3 on all of my active machines. I am also using PrPro CS2 Production Studio, and PrE 4.0 on only my laptop. I have the recent versions of both PrPro and PrE, but am waiting for my 64-bit Win7 laptop to be built (hang up with Cleveo MoBo's, to be resolved by about May).
When I installed PrE 4.0, it DID break the full CS2 suite, but by that point, Adobe knew of the issue, and had done a KB on the problem. In my case, just doing a Repair Install for each program in the CS2 suite, did the trick, and both programs have run, side-by-side for many years, without a hiccup. However, I have NOT uninstalled any of those Adobe programs, so cannot comment on what might go wrong.
Usually, Adobe programs coexist well. However, PrPro had an issue with CS3 and CS4. If one had both PrPro CS3 and CS4 installed on the same computer, then uninstalled CS3, it took some necessary "pieces" of CS4 with it. Again, the "trick" was to do a Repair Install for CS4, and all was fixed. I have not read of any other, such issues, but they might have just gone unreported, or reported in forums, that I do not frequent.
Wish that I had more to offer, especially regarding PrPro CS 5.5 and PrE 10. I just have not explored those programs, yet - late May?
Good luck,
Hunt -

i've been using Premiere Pro for about a year and a half with no trouble, no crashes that i can remember. I updated to 5.0.4 when it came out and experienced no problems.
I have not made any changes to my system (drivers, programs, etc.) since the last time i worked with Premiere Pro with no trouble. The only difference is that i generated approx. 52GB of new video files (mov. uncompressed 32bit 640x480 resolution) that i was beginning to edit in to a music video.
My current problem is:: there is absolutely no playback of video in 5.0.4. not in the tiny project window preview, not in the source preview, and not in the timeline/canvas window. when i push PLAY, the button turns into a square STOP button, but nothing happens. this is independent of project or file type. The project i was working on when playback stopped is using uncompressed 640x480 32bit Quicktime files and one 44khz/16bit .AIFF file. as a quick doublecheck, I just added a 640x480 Apple Intermediate Codec file and it also will not play back. I opened older projects and none of them will playback.
My problem started while i was working on a project. I was working on the project for probably an hour and a half with no trouble. Then it seemed to get a bit sluggish and i could hear the HD churning a little more. After rendering out a short section (just under 10 seconds), PPro did not play back the just rendered (now greenline) section. Immediate playback of rendered material was the default behavior, and this was the first time ever that the just rendered section did not play back. I then discovered that no video would play back at all--in any of the windows. I can scrub through all the video without any trouble--all the frames are there.
I shut down PPro, & restarted. No change. I restarted my computer. No change.
Realizing that the problem was likely related to a lack of space on my data drive, i deleted approx. 500GB of files off my 2 TB drive, leaving just under a 1/3 of it free. i checked the drive for errors, and defragmented it. Premiere Pro still wouldn't play any file from any project.
The files are fine, they will playback anywhere else (several different file types involved in different projects). The files are compatible with Premiere Pro (uncompressed VGA resolution Quicktime .mov), i was editing on the timeline with them for hours before all video playback stopped. All other Adobe programs (After Effects, Photoshop work fine).
I tried to find an answer/solution on these forums, unsuccessfully. After uninstalling PPro and reinstall (did not help), and entire Suite uninstall, Adobe Clean, and reinstall, neither version 5.0.0 or 5.0.4 will play video --the no playback problem has persisted.
I was running out of HD space --i had less room than i thought -- down to about 7% of free space, a bone-headed move on my part. I'm not surprised that playback performance got compromised due to lack of space. But i'm shocked that the problem is persisting. Fortunately, i had just backed up my entire system the day before. (i've backed up many times before and this never affected PPro performance)
i tried to "CLEAN" the media cache for the sequence but it had no effect (in searching the forums, i saw somebody else have their 'crashing Premiere Pro' problem solved by hitting this button). I just took a look in the user/application support/adobe/common/5.0 to look at the "Media Cache" folder and the "Media Cache Files" folder. Neither of them are empty, even after hitting the CLEAN cache button in the main preferences 'Media' settings window. I don't know if this is the correct behavior or not. (i'd expect a "clean" command to empty the folder, but i'm not the programmer)
This does not appear to be the ATI/5.0 problem that so many Mac users suffered (i was lucky to never have that problem). Again, i've never had any problems with Premiere Pro over the last year and a half, until working on this latest project with the Hard Drive very low on space. I'm 99.9% positive that's at the heart of the issue.
I don't understand why a clean reinstall did not help in this regard. The problem is clearly PPro specific. I found one topic in the forum where someone else experienced this same "no video playback" problem, but there was never follow-up from the user saying whether or not his problem was solved (or what was done to correct the problem).
I'd love to get some help--- seems to be a very rare issue, but right now, i can do no video editing. btw, i started a new project as well and imported a .mov file -- same problem, no video playback.
the weird thing is that i can actually still edit video. i just rearranged my timeline assets and rendered out a minute-long quicktime (Apple Intermediate Codec) .mov and it looks and plays as it should. This is really weird. I'm baffled -- there must be some way to fix this. I don't want to have to go back to Final Cut, certainly not when i've already paid for Create Suite 5 Production Premium and EVERYTHING works except for video playback in PrPro.
thanks in advance for your help

Message was edited by: magneticjakhello. hey, thanks very much for writing back. i got some good info with a search or two. (info about what regedit is and what corresponds to it in OS X -- regedit allows you to edit "preference" keys for individual programs, OSX's equivalent for these keys are the .plists in User & System: Preferences and Application Support)
what i ended up doing was uninstalling Premiere Pro (not the suite, just PPro). Then i deleted a few preference files:
from User /Preferences/Adobe:
com.adobe.AdobePremierePro.plist
com.Adobe.Premiere Pro.5.0.plist
and from System Preferences:
the file: Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs
and..
/.../Premiere Pro/5.0/...
AMEPrefs.xml (i noticed that there's also a preference file in Media Encoder's own folder so i didn't sweat this one)
Debug Database.txt
Placeholder Preset.epr
PostEncodeCmds.pref
PresetCache.xml
Trace Database.txt
NOTE:
of course i don't know if deleting any files beyond the 2 .plist files in User Prefs was necessary, but... it seems to have worked.
I then reinstalled Premiere Pro CS5, and fired up an old project and i've got playback of HD and DV files, and snappy editing and rendering, so hopefully i'm good to go. I'm just going to stick with v5.0.0 because i actually don't remember ever having any trouble with it, and i don't remember v5.0.4 adding anything i was 'missing' or 'needed'
hopefully, this thread will be useful for any future folks that run into trouble - and it's got a solution for both Windows and OS X
happy editing,

Why does Premiere Pro CS5 eat up space on my C drive when it conforms video files?
Hey everyone. I have Premiere Pro CS5 with the latest update installed. I am running Windows 7 64-bit on a 120GB Corsair SSD drive. I have set my scratch disk video and audio previews to a different hard drive (F: drive). I have three questions:
1. Why does Premiere eat up space on my C drive whenever it conforms the video files I import into my project?
2. Where on my C drive can I find the folder that holds all these conformed video files that are taking up space on my C drive?
3. How do I prevent Premiere from eating up space on my hard drive when it conforms the video files I import into my project? Is there some way to move whatever folder is eating up space on my hard drive when Premiere conforms the video files and tell Premiere to conform the video files on another hard disk so I don't lose precious space on my C drive?
Okay, that's four questions but, can some please help me on this? Thanks.
Okay, that's five questions.hello,
i think you need to relocate you media cache files to a separate drive other than your c: drive.
in the hardware forum, Harm has done a wonderful job at advising on HDD setup, i think it mentions relocation
of swap file, media cache, etc. all which are defaulted to your c: in your user profile
after relocating to different physical drives (all without partitions) performance usually increases

hope this helps til someone else answers more

Premiere Pro CS5.5 -very strange issue with the color tones and Preview-
I deal with a very strange and not usual problem in Premiere Pro CS5.5 (also the version CS5). What I try to do is just a simple color correction. The problem occurs when I try to use Three Way Color Corrector but it happens with Fast Color Corrector also.
When applying the Three-Way Color Correction and without changing anything else (just applying), can be seen in the preview of the soft how sudden changes in color tones. For example, the gray tone becomes a little more green, but also can be seen very easy a change in the other color tones too. In fact even RGB Parade show the same thing. This is very, very strange and unacceptable and saw that it happens when trying to use Colorista II too.
I tried the same thing in Sony Vegas Pro 11 and I downloaded the trial version of Edius 6 to convince me if the same thing happens. Not! In Sony Vegas and Edius everything is working correctly, I have not experienced these problems in the preview's of this 2 others softs.
This issue is very annoying because every possible color correction is based on what we see in the preview and if in this preview the tones are seen altered realize that can not make a decent color correction. So what happens here?!? I uploaded a small video demonstration to see very clearly about what I'm talking. You can see in the next link: http://vimeo.com/35317616Yes Jim, you're right. No changes in the scopes when one just apply RGB Curves, Fast Color Corrector, RGB Color Corrector or the Three way Color Corrector (last three thanks to the new update 6.03). I already wrote that Adobe team has been able to fix this bug for some of the tools/effects.
But Brightness&Contrast? Change Color? Color Balance? Levels? MBLooks? Twixtor? Colorista II? Does it seem normally that all scopes or just one of them jump when you just apply one of these effects/tools? Not to say that in some situations even the tones change (especially in shadows&midtones).
You say this is something "very minimal". I say it is not so. I don't find normally to make a very detalied CC with Three way Color Corrector and then when applying Colorista/MBLooks, for example, the scopes jump and inclusively some tones may be influenced. And I left clear examples in this topic where you can see that this is possible. I don't know if this is "very minimal" or not, but is really so impossible to edit in Premiere without this "very minimal" issue?!? How can it be possible in other softs (Edius, Media Composer, Vegas Pro) and in Premiere not?!?
One more thing: many of us use intermediate codecs in the editing process. Do you find normally that a AVCHD video have the lumninance at approximately 110IRE, to export it directly to Cineform and then import it in Premiere, and the waveform shows the luminance at 100IRE?!? How is this possible?!? So the AVCHD video have a 110IRE luminance, you convert this video to Cineform without changing anything, and then this Cineform video have the luminance at 100IRE?!? And anyone can verify this example.
So, how can one trust in this soft?!? -
Locked a Black Video Layer and Premiere Pro CS5 Hangs Up
Ran into a problem whereby I have on Video Layer 1 a layer of Black Video about 30 minutes long.
I have 2-4 additional video layers above and about 9 audio layers.
When I locked Layer 1 which has nothing more than a premiere pro generated Black Video layer, Premiere Pro CS5 completely froze up, became unresponsiveand not even able to move the CTI, particularly when I tried to zoom in on the layer. However when I locked any of the other video layers, not a problem. Hardly ever lock layers so didn't notice it before.
Filed a bug report but was curious if anyone ran into this problem.

Specific Video Footage in Premiere Pro CS5 completely black.
I've been working on a music video project in Premiere Pro CS5 for the past few months and everything has worked really well until just a few days ago, when a certain chunk of my high speed footage randomly turned black. I have it in its own bin so it's separated from my other video source files. If I try to preview these videos, all it shows is black footage (though the timelengths for each one are still correct). I checked and made sure the actual .avi files on my hard drive still worked, and they played through perfectly. I tried re-importing these videos into my project file and that didn't do anything. I made sure they were connected to the right files in the right folder on my computer, and they were. The rest of my video footage works just fine, so I'm confused why this certain bunch randomly turned completely black.
I backed up the entire project to an external hard drive and loaded it on a different computer with Premiere Pro CS6 on it, and everything works perfectly again. Does anybody have any idea how I can get my footage to return from the black abyss it's fallen into on my personal computer running CS5?AVI is a wrapper... what is inside your wrapper?

I had to re-install Premiere Pro CS5 and now video are files acting funny...
Hello. I had to reformat my system drive and did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and then I did an anytime upgrade to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I then re-installed Premiere Pro CS5. Here's the problem. When I open any of my projects that I worked on BEFORE I re-installed Premiere (when I was using Windows 7 Home Premium), the video files on the timeline all look corrupted when I play the timeline now. They have these weird block artifacts and also a constant pulsing thing going on. I deleted all the media cache files and all the media cache database files but, nothing changed even though Premiere conformed every single video file in the project again. Then, I went to "Sequence" and hit "Render Entire Work Area" and after Premiere was finished rendering, I noticed the artifacts and pulsing are completely gone BUT, the video files look like a VHS tape that has been recorded over a few times. The edges of people and things in focus aren't nice and sharp like they were before I re-installed Premiere. I DO NOT have the time or patience to have to delete all the video files and import them again into the project and re-edit the entire scene! Can someone please help me resolve this problem?! I am about done with Premiere!
Is there a way to delete the video source files that are on the left side of the timeline (next to the "Source" window, where they got imported into the project) without deleting the edited video files on the timeline and then re-import the same source video files into the project, kind of like "refreshing" the video files? If this is possible, it seems like this would fix the problem without me having to re-edit everything again.
*Update* My idea of just re-importing the source video clip won't work either. I deleted one of the source video clips, which deleted its reference clip on the timeline, and I re-imported the video source clip to see if it would play all weird in Premiere and sure enough, it has the same exact block artifacts and pulsing effect like all the other source clips in the project. It seems that if that's the case, it might be a codec problem. But, that doesn't make sense because if I open the clip on my hard drive with Windows Media Player or Allplayer, the clips plays perfectly fine and looks like it is supposed to. So, it must be a codec problem in Premiere??? Could it be that Premiere Pro CS5 doesn't work well with Windows 7 Professional? I find that hard to believe. Can someone please help me?
By the way, all the video clips in the project are from my Panasonic GH1 or my Panasonic GH2. They are all 1080p/24 AVCHD. I even made a new sequence within the same project making sure the sequence settings are AVCHD 1080p 24 and still nothing is fixed.Have you tried exporting a 10 second section of the footage to see if the issue shows up once the seqeunce is actually exported from the timeline. I edit on CS5 with windows 7 pro at work quite often and have no issues so I assure you that isn't the issue. I also edit with AVCHD footage when at home and work quite freqeuntly as well so I'm positive that isn't the issue. It sounds like a GPU driver has been corrupted in the way it interacts with premiere pro. What type of GPU do you have? If it supports MPE's GPU acceleration have you tried turning it off and seeing if that makes any difference?
Anyways though try to export a 10 second test section of your timeline to see if when the clip is exported from premiere it will play normally in windows media player or vlc or w/e media player you want to use. If it exports fine then you can almost be positive it's a corrupted video card driver. If that's the case I'd re-install your GPU's driver and also check your gpu makers website to see if they have a updated driver avaiable.
