Premiere Pro CS6 Crashes importing from SAN

A couple of notes first.
8 editors on Mac Pro's (ranging from 3,1 to 5,1) accessing media stored on a SAN via 10Gb ethernet. The SAN drives are mounted via SANmp. The 10Gb ethernet connection is created with globalSAN iSCSI Initiator and Xtarget.
Performance has been spotty when playing back video, no matter which software is used (even tried Final Cut Pro 7, which used to be our editing platform). File transfers are very fast however, which likely points to in issue outside of Premiere Pro and more of an issue with the performance of the SAN or the 10Gb ethernet connection... anyway.
Only recently did Premiere crash when I import media from the SAN. The same files import and playback without any issue once I have copied them to local storage (an internal 7200rpm hard drive). I even tried replacing the a local file with its twin on the server, which also causes Premeiere to crash (spinning beachball of death that never goes away). After Effects, Photoshop, and other programs have no issue opening/importing the very same files from the SAN.
This is only a recent issue, too. I completed a project last week that mixed h.264 video with native RED video and WAV audio. The only issue with that project was choppy playback, even after rendering the timeline, which is also baffling to me... It seems like it is an issue specifically with Premiere accessing media from the SAN, but I'm not sure about that since it wasn't an issue with a previous project. My edit machine is bound to the company domain (internal network) and internet is accessed through the same ethernet connection. I'm assuming this only contributes even more to the playback issues that have been observed.
Specifics on my particular machine:
8 core Mac Pro 3,1
OS X 10.6.8 (yeah, I know. upgrade already, right?!)
Quadro 4000
32GB RAM

In general, PPro does not work well (if at all) if the files are on anything other than a "local" drive (internal or direct connect external)

  • Adobe premiere pro CS6 crashes whenever I move the timeline

Hi there, my Adobe Premiere pro CS6 crashes when moving the timeline or importing new clips. I have tried several things, I opened up a earlier project to try that and it was fine for a while, but after about 5-10mins of use it hit the same problem and would then always crash whenever I openend it and moved the timeline marker or added a new clip.
Another problem that may or may not be related, is that some clips are broken up into about 6 glitchy squares instead of the actual clip.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
-If Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 crashing when importing HDV Video

For some reason I keep getting crashes when importing HDV (720p60) video into the timeline of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.  This has happened on two different machines, with similar specs.
Per the suggested guidelines, here are the specifics:
    Version of Premiere Pro: CS6, Version 6.0.5 (001 (MC:264587))
    All updates have been installed.
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.8.5.
Source footage: HDV 720p60 video in .MOV container.
Full text of error message: "Sorry, a serious error has occured that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down.  We will attempt to save your current project."
Link to full crash report: http://goo.gl/Gn8Bzn
Crash occurs when trying to import HDV .MOV file.
This is a consistent problem when importing .MOV files of this type.
Complete Adobe Creative Suite is installed.  Also using Episode Pro encoding software from Telestream to prepare HDV video.  No other external video hardware or codecs installed.
Yes, I am using the Mecury Playback Engine GPU acceleration.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me figure this one out.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 crashes whenever I go near Project Settings

    Hi all
I am using an official trial version of Premiere Pro CS6 as part of Creative Cloud. I am editing on my MacBook Pro 17" (newest model) with h.264 footage recorded on my Canon 550D.
Everything works fine, imports and edits like a dream. However, during editing, if I simply go to Project -> Project Settings -> General - then don't even change anything, just ok out of the dialog box then it crashes.
When I say crashes, the video disappears and I cannot do anything at all until I exit out and reboot. No messages appear until I do a 'force quit' and then I get the standard "A serious error has occurred" etc.
Of course the obvious solution is to not select Project Settings when editing! Which I will do for now, but I would like to think that I can change any settings I like without it crashing every time!
    Any thoughts?
    Regards
    Jason

On reading the advice on a separate thread I updated OSX from 10.7.3 to 10.7.4 which seems to have fixed the problem. Probably should have checked that first!

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Crashing

I've seen some discussions on this but not on the exact problem I've been having,  which is my Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 always crashes when I'm layering either two videos or two audio tracks on top of each other.  If I stack two files and then scrub, then it immediately crashes every single time. I've never had a problem with CS5.5 when doing such an operation.
    Help!
    Canon 7D Footage
    1080P 24fps
    ESata Externanl HDD
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Core i7
    12 GB ram

I am having a similar issue that I have nailed down to two specific audio tracks.  When I play audio on these particular tracks, which have Compressor and Denoise plugins on the track mixer, I get the crash error.  Understand, the Compressor and Denoise effects are not on the audio itself.  When I move the audio up to the adjacent tracks above, there is no crash or error, but of course, I don't get the effects that I desire.
I solved the problem by right clicking and "Remove Audio Effects..." of which I had a 6 db boost in "Volume".  I made up the gain on the Compressor plugin on the track.
FWIW I also get the "Audio filters missing" pop-up when I open the project.  This stems from me creating audio presets, applying them to files, and then the preset effects are unable to be recalled when I re-open the project.
I am in Premiere cs6 on a 2.8 Ghz Intel Core i5 iMac running OSX 10.8.2 w/ 4 GB of RAM.
    Hope this helps...

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 crashing when making edits

I everyone. I migrated to Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 (I need to finish a couple of project before I can update the computer to CC and Mac OS 10.8.) and it's been crashing right from the begining. It's a random crash but my impression that it becomes more probable as the projects grow.
It happens whenever I'm editing and I press the shortcut for "overwrite" or "insert". (It also happens when I press the icon or move the clip to the timeline)
The screen message I get is this one:
The log message that I get afterwards goes as follows:
On previous days, I've been able to keep working just by deleting the Media database preview files from Premiere but it's not working anymore.
I'm working with XMF files shot with a Canon C300 synced using premiere to sound files (.wav). It only happens when I try to edit but it doesn't matter if I try to edit sound, sound and image or just image.
What it doesn't make sense is that it says something about "dynamic lynk" and, as far as I know, I'm not using dynamic link at all.
Thanks in advance for your time and wisdom
    Jaime From Spain

Now, a few updates after a very long night (just in case it might  help somebody)
Up until last night, I was saving my Premiere Projects in a Dropbox Folder inside my computer. It was a quick safe way of having a backup copy. Well, it seems that the crash is somehow related. Don't ask me why but once I moved the project file to a regular hard drive (actually a RAID0 where I keep my heavier files) the crashes have stopped.
This morning I went back to the dropbox idea with a new project and -Voilá!- after three hours of work, it crashed again. I moved the file to the RAID disk and no more crashes. My guess is that it is somehow related to the auto-save files that premiere keeps saving. Once it reaches a certain amount (around 20 in my experience) dropbox and Premiere start to do something weird and they crash the software... (It might be related to the software dropbox uses to keep your folders updated and keep backup versions of everything)
I'll run a few tests next week trying to keep the Auto-save files out of dropbox and just the regular files there to see what happens.
    Best regards
    Jaime

  • Premiere Pro CS6 crashing after RAM upgrade

I just got Premiere Pro almost a week ago after using FCP for years. I was just getting accustomed to it and thought I would upgrade my RAM to help Dynamic Link run smoother. I doubled it from 4 GB to 8 GB today and now Premiere Pro crashes either immediately or after about 20 minutes. My computer is a 2009 Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz. The new ram is from OWC.com. I ran a RAM test in Tech Tools and it passed as having no problems. Can anyone suggest anything? I would hate to have to go back to 4 GB and be limited to that.

    UPDATE:
This problem is not fixed at all. I went about 2 hours without a crash then had about 5 of them in a row. I have been reading everywhere trying to find a place to start. A full system rebuild and reinstall would take me a day or 2 that I don't have. The crashes happen any time, sometimes at startup, sometimes when I'm editing, sometimes when I am not doing anything. I get the "serious error" message and sometimes just get a "quit unexpectedly" along with this log:

  • Premiere Pro CS6 crashing on daily basis

Hello. The company I work for purchased Premiere Pro CS6 recently due to Apples direction for Final Cut.
We have been editing a full length motion picture and being able to edit in native RED has been great. However we have been experiencing one to two or more complete crashes a day with Premier to the chagrin of our editor. I know full RED support is fairly new, but this is getting more and more frustrating as the days go by.
We are running it on an iMac. OS 10.7.4,  i7 processor, and 8GB of RAM.  The footage is being edited from an external G-RAID hard drive via firewire 800.

I too am experiencing serious crash woes on Premeire CS6 (.0.2). I'm working on a solid Mac Pro with a crazy fast raid setup, and Ive sunk money into extra ram and a Quadro 4000 GFX card, which has helped a few things, but overall I'm so bummed on the constant errors that hold up my day...
1- Projects that worked the day before suddenly "encountering an error forcing Premiere to close" (politically correct way of saying "your app is crashing so save if you can jerky"). I have to save a new version of my project in another location every day at this point, which screws with my backup system.
2- Projects that crash  when I click on a Multicam sequence.
This week Media Encoder crashes every time I try to render something more than a few minutes long in the background while working in Premiere.
Rarely do I have a bug free day on new setup. I'm gonna puke if I have to trash prefs & repair disk permissions again. On that note, get preference manager if you don't have it already. It's a lifesaver for this kind of crap.
This is all Apple's fault. If Final Cut X had never been released, I'd be half way done with this doco edit by now. Premiere is such a nice app in theory, but falls so short in action...
Any advice besides "trash prefs, repair permissions" much appreciated

  • Premiere Pro CS6 only importing audio .mov

Recently I've exported an XML file from FCP7 which seems to have translated well into Premiere. However, I am having trouble reconnecting the media onto a PC.
When I import the files into the project, only the audio plays, and not the video.
The files are XD Cam footage .mov
Outside of Premiere the files play perfectly in VLC player.
Any suggestions? I am a Premiere newbie.

[Below is copied and pasted from the other thread.  As it's still the same problem, I'd like to keep it all here.]
    animatedlies wrote:
I've installed Quicktime since then, but the .mov files are only playing audio in Quicktime and not the video. They play both audio/video in VLC player.
I tried creating a new Premiere project and importing the same files, and now I'm receiving an error code saying the codec is missing or unavailable.
Any suggestions why I am having issues importing .mov?
I am using Windows 8 Pro and Premiere Pro CS6.

  • Why will Premiere Pro CS6 only import to mpeg format?

Hello, so I've been using Premiere Pro CS6 now for only a few months and when I imported (using "capture" or F5) and tested some footage  from a HDV camera using a miniDV tape, I noticed that Premiere Pro would only import to mpeg format. I looked up ways to change this but couldn't find anything. So in short I'm asking if there is a way to change import format so that whenever I do import from DV tape, it isn't mpeg?
    Thanks!

    ...footage  from a HDV camera...
    ...only import to mpeg format.
HDV capture will always be mpeg.
whenever I do import from DV tape, it isn't mpeg?
DV capture will be .avi (pc) or .mov (mac).
    note:
Capture from tape, import file based media.
    Capturing and digitizing
Also, what's the problem with mpeg?
Why are you determined to change it?

  • Demo of Premiere Pro CS6 tonight at the San Diego Premiere Pro Users Group...

Tonight is the April meeting of the San Diego Premiere Pro User Group. We'll be showing Premiere Pro CS6 and as many of it's new features as time allows. It's free, and kicks off at 6:30pm. All the info can be found here:

Hope any of you SoCal residents can come out and join us!

No, that's not a typo. The files are very small (only 270x480 pixels) at a very low bitrate (roughly 384 kbps or 0.4 Mbps). Thanks for asking.

If yes, go into BIOS and completely turn off the Intel chip... see below
Even if not dual graphics... have you updated your graphics device driver?
Do NOT use Windows update, you need to go to the ATI/AMD site and find the driver for your specific model

  • Why is Premiere Pro CS6 crashing during render at 50% completion?

I am running Premiere Pro CS6 on MacBook Pro, flash drives. The Mac is brand new. Nothing else is running. No other non-factory programs are installed.
Regardless of what I do, during export to any output type, Premiere crashes when it's rendered to 50%.  I take the same project and only render part; crash at 50%. I try another new project, with nothing but a single video file, crash at 50%.
<frustration>I am about to run to Final Cut, and I really don't want to. I am losing money and time that I don't have.</frustration>
Any feedback would be majorly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Premiere pro cs6 Crashing on Laucher.  No error message

OHHH my head hurts, Adobe Premiere pro cs6 no longer works.  I was working on a project and i accidentally shut off my computer, upon rebooting i found myself unable to turn on Adobe Premiere.  It brings up the laucher, it does not load any codecs, fonts, etc.  you know what i mean the really fast list that goes by.  My gpu is supported, i have did the cuda core trick, i have deleted my properites, and reinstalled, nothing.  I even cleaned my entire computer of adobe folders and the what not, used the cleaner tool to uninstall everything to do with adobe, and reinstalled it all.  Still no luck.  I installed the trial of photoshop to see if it worked and it worked perfectly fine.  Adobe encore, and encoder also do not work.  I have checked my graphics drivers, they are fine and not on a beta driver.  I also did not make any changes to my system before trying to open it.  I have system restored back before it happened by and day, still no luck.  I have opened it about 50 times to make sure that it didnt need to black list or anything.  I have even ran the license repair tool, I REALLY need help, i was working on a large project with a deadline.  Please for the love of everything holy throw whatever suggestion you got at me besides a system reformat, which is my last option and i want to make sure i have tried everything before i do that

    >accidentally shut off my computer
1st, very basic question... Windows or Mac?
-See the Information FAQ http://forums.adobe.com/message/4200840 for what you need to say when you ask a question
2nd question... HOW did you shut off your computer?
For Windows (I don't do Mac) there is generally a "graceful" shut down when you push the power button, since the power button on modern computers is not DIRECTLY connected to the power supply, it goes through a motherboard control circuit that tells the power supply to shut down only AFTER all open programs are closed
If you hit some kine of external power switch (rocker switch on a surge protector, for instance) so power was ABRUPTLY cut off... you very likely have a corrupted Windows System Registry... and that would require a complete hard drive formatting and reinstall of everything to fix the problem

  • Premiere Pro CS6 crashes every time I attempt to import an MP4

I have Premire Pro CS6 (version 6.0.5). I updated it yesterday. I'm running this on Mac OSX v10.9.1 (also updated yesterday).
The footage is MP4 and was originally recorded in Telestream (http://www.telestream.net/Screenflow/).
Everytime I attempt to import the footage I get this message: "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requeres Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project." Then the program freezes and I have to force quit. I've tried importing other MP4s to see if it's just the one file but the error occurs no matter what I try to import. I have not had trouble importing files before I did the updates yesterday.
