Premiere Pro CS6 Default save location

Hey there,
We are having an issue where our users only have 100 meg network drives and Premiere Pro CS6 profile data. Our domain policies redirect everything from XP Documents and settings and 7 Users to their Z:\ drive, which is mapped to a network location on the local server . When Premiere Pro first opens, it saves user specific profile data and save files by default to this location. When their drive reaches full, it will then corrupt a .DB file in this location (no space for a proper save) and then causes problems in various other sections of the program, such as importing videos/photos. You can manually select a different location on project start, but is there any way to redirect it back to the local drive users folder? These files then will have lots of space and then they can save their project file on network drive/flash media so their work is secure and safe, but the program data and scratch info has lots of free space to work with? I need to make this change permanent and inside of a deployment, is there a registry file one can change?
Thanks!

Last point here:
I thanked everybody for useful comments,
Theres no point in arguing what a company should do at the end of the day, they will make things work swimmingly or crappily regardless, cash is king.
Presently, no priviledge user accounts on the network are working peachy, not the problem. Only when the network drive reachs full does this have any issue or problem at all. Basic users with much larger network drives (such as an instructor) have no problems. *shocked crowd noise*
The point honestly is to not argue any present facts, would i like things done differently? sure, but right now none of that matters.
as we circle back around to the only main point and the only real question i had was this:
I just needed to change the default save location of premiere pro, if the program wont do this, how do i make it work or hack it to work? I of course take on all associated risks with this or running the program in the evil basic user network saving configuration.
At the end of the day, i was trying to do what you guys wanted, I wanted to have it save to C: for program caching. Users can then save the .proj files any where they wish after, doesnt matter. Im not wanting it to save to the network, group policies are just setting that default location to the network first program start. They can change it themselves even as a basic user, i just wanted to change where it goes first. I could give them Administrative access and that wouldnt change anything. Changing the group policy isnt the option, i cannot fix PP Pro and then break HUNDREDS of other things. These machines do far more then PP Pro.
I am listening, we just for some odd reason keep bashing pointless side points to this issue. All i needed to change was this default location for everybody.
Who cares if its on the network, a USB, the C drive, D drive, E drive, F drive or whatever the hell, if you dont think it will work off of C, thats fine, great, good for yah. I JUST need to change it. Thats all. The risk is on me, *Kermit YAAAY!*
So I am listening here, some people need to try READING though. Just because a program isnt designed that way, doesnt mean nobody has ever figured out a way to make it work that way. Welcome to Information Technology or Software Packaging and Deployment. There are websites dedicated to this.
Thanks again, ill ask Adobe support.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 button Save Project on keyboard?

    Hi,
Is there a button on the keyboard (Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 - Wireless Slim Line Keyboard) to save the project likes (CTRL+S) while you edit?
    Thanks Koos_w.

    Hi,
To my knowledge, the editing keyboards don't add special hotkeys - rather, the normal keyboard shortcuts are simply printed ON the keys, and color-coded.
So to answer the question, yes, there is a "Save Project" and it is CTRL+S, as you already know
    Thanks

  • Default Premiere Pro CS6 Export Location

I had to edit videos of mine into a documentary for an assignment at university and am now looking for the place where i exported the finished work to. I know it was saved into some strange location that I hadn't chosen because it took me a while to figure out how to choose the destination for the export. So, I'd like to know if anyone can help me find that folder, it was what I assume to be the default Adobe Premiere Pro Cs6 export destination. I need to find the finished project for another assignment...

Premiere remembers the last export location.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 not locating media, freezing

For the last couple of days, Premiere Pro on my laptop (15" Apple Retina MacBook Pro, 12gb ram, 2.7GHz i7 - USB 3.0 Lacie drive) has been having trouble locating media. When I open a project, the "Locating Media" diologe shows the progress bar start moving, then stop and not move again. Hitting "Cancel" makes the pinwheel of patience come up. When I use the "Command + Option + ESC" command, Premiere Pro CS6 is not shown as "Not Responding". Force quitting the app and restarting the computer doesn't do anything to change this behavior.
Would appreciate any guidence on how to remedy this.

    Good Day,
I am using Premiere Pro CS6 and I have been been doing metalogging for my film. I am having this issue of locating media when I changed my project over from a failing hard drive to a new one, I left the project on OVERNIGHT to locate media and its in the same spot. With such metalogging I have only been changing the names and descriptions of the files in the bin and I have a good few days work done on it. Is there any way to save the integrity of that bin without having to start an entirely new project over and start from scratch. This is most annoying.
I don't believe I have any corrupt rendered files, perhaps its a corrupted video?
Any help would be appreciated as I see no fix or announcement has come up for this problem yet.

  • Bouncing - Premiere to Audition to Premiere - How to change default save location from Desktop

When I am bouncing from Premiere to Audition "Edit Clip in Audition", and then apply the effect and save the file, it seems to save the file to the desktop. Is there a way to change this default save location? Can't seem to find it in the preferences.
Didn't even realize it was doing this. Desktop was getting pretty cluttered.

You can paste this command in Terminal
defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSDocumentSaveNewDocumentsToCloud -bool false
Or use Mountain Tweaks - click the Mountain Lion tab & it's the sixth item in the left-hand column.
Both will disable the default iCloud save & still let you have access to iCloud if you want it.

  • Change default Premiere Pro CS6 importing of files so it's NOT alphabetical

With Premiere Pro CS5, I was able to import my Photoshop files with multiple layers (shapes, text, images, etc) and they would appear in order of Photoshop organization. For example:
    Layers in Photoshop CS5:
    Logo
    Address
    Main Text
    Background
Importing them into Premiere Pro CS5:
    Logo
    Address
    Main Text
    Background
Notice the order stays the same.
Now that I have purchased CS6, everytime I try to import the layers into Premiere, they are imported alphabetically.
Layers in Photoshop CS6: (still same)
    Logo
    Address
    Main Text
    Background
Importing them into Premiere Pro CS6: (now alphabetical)
    Address
    Background
    Logo
    Main Text
How do I change the default setting so it imports in the same order as Photoshop? I would like this version to be the new default as I use this everyday for work.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    CS6 newbie, CS5 intermediate

In both cases, the PSD imported in the exact order I had it in Photoshop.  I even went back into Photoshop, changed the order, reimported and it came in with the new order.  So unfortunately, I'm not able to reproduce the issue.  Which means I have no means to find a cause or test a fix.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Default keyboard shortcuts in CS6

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/default-keyboard-shortcuts.html

I guess I should have said that I've already been looking, First, slowly scrolling and going through the entire keyboard shortcuts list, then, over the past three days, searching on google for 'end' 'timeline' 'beginning' 'playhead' and various other combinations of these and other keywords in searches not only on Google, but in the actual Help and User Manual for Premiere CS6. Not to be ended there, because I have been searching, now on my fourth day of intense searching also taking YouTube videos, and many of the excellent forums for Premiere online. I guess I should have mentioned the hundreds of dead ends that I've come across in this search, but all paths seem to be leading away rather than leading to the simple answer I am looking for. I did find references to moving the playhead, to clips, markers, last place, and many others but none for moving the playhead to the beginning or the end of the timeline. My searchs even brought results for the beginning and the end of time, but I hope I can find the answer before then.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for moving the playhead to the beginning or the end of the timeline?
    TIA,
    Ken

  • Can Premiere Pro CS6 be shut down when Encore CS6 has the project to save memory?

Pretty much the title says it all.  I am curious if it helps the computer to shut down, close, exit Premiere Pro CS6 when you have dynamically linked Encore CS6 with it?  I am trying to give as much RAM as possible to Encore during my heavy renderings and if PP did not need to be on then there is a better chance the computer will not crash (or so I believe).
I have 16gb RAM and my projects are about 80gb in HD being transcoded to 8.4gb SD for DL DVD burns.
    Thanks!

    Maybe, yes, and no.
Maybe it will help, but probably not.
    Yes, you can close Premiere.
But, dynamic link keeps an instance of pproheadless (whatever it's called) running; perhaps one for each sequence. So no, you don't save what you might think.
Take a look at Encore Edit -> Preferences -> Memory to see how much you reserved for other processes, and therefore how much Adobe has for EN and PR (assuming other adobe apps are closed).

Could have been... do you have a supervisor who keeps track of what is ordered and how it is purchased?
Do you have access to the Adobe ID that was used to install the software so you may check the account?

  • Premiere Pro CS6 - Project frame won't retain its layout or location between opening and closing?

I filed this as a bug, but perhaps I'm thinking through this wrong and would like to seek help.
I'm finding that the Project frame in Premiere Pro CS6 does not retain its layout between opening and closings.
    Here's what I do:
    1) Open a project.
    2) Create several bins and populate them with media. Expand the contents of a bin by clicking the disclosure triangle to the left of the folder.
    3) Undock the Project frame only.
    4) Close the Project frame with Command-W
    5) Use ****-1 to reopen the Project frame.
Repeat steps 4 and 5. The result is that the Project frame does not remember which bin was open. Furstratingly, it also does not retain which bins were expanded or collapsed.
And worst of all, it will also open in random areas of the screen. (The expected result is that it would reopen in the same spot of the desktop where you last closed it, no?)
I'm a big organizer -- tons of footage across many different bins. I open bins, close them, keep some open, close others... easily dozens or hundreds of times during an edit session. I'm beginnging to feel like I'm swatting flies or playing whack-a-mole just to get my bin views correct!
Or mm I approaching this wrong?

But really, the real solution for me was to not update Premiere Pro CS6 after a reinstall. The most recent updates just do not like my computer, I guess.
Figured I should post this solution here in case anyone in the future has this problem. (relevant: xkcd: Wisdom of the Ancients)

  • Export Media in Premiere Pro CS6 ONLY produces an Audio File in Media Encoder

    First, all the system info:
Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1
Intel HD Graphics 3000 Display Adapter
    I’m using Premiere Pro CS6 Version 6.0.5 (001  (MC: 264587)) “Mighty Kilt”
Version 6.0.3.1 (64 Bit) of Adobe Media Encoder CS6
Other Adobe applications installed: AIR, Creative Cloud, Download Assistant, Encore CS6 Library, Flash Player 12 ActiveX, Flash Player 12 Plugin, Help Manager, Premiere Pro CS6, Premiere Pro CS6 Functional Content, Reader XI
I’ve run check for updates on both Premiere Pro and Media Encoder and everything is up to date
I'm producing a two disc, dual layer DVD set for 100 families of my son's marching band.
I have a half hour "masterwork" of interviews, performance segments, rehearsal sequences, credits, etc that I've edited together complete with sound, etc.
I also then have various other video segments from the season, some high quality (1920x1080) and some lower quality.
Rather than import everything into Encore and have Encore transcode them all at the same quality, I wanted to ensure that the half-hour piece and certain other segments were transcoded as high quality as possible and given the largest file sizes I could and then transcode other segments at lower quality levels as needed so everything would fit on the discs.
The company I'm using to duplicate/replicate the 100 DVDs from my Master DVD advised me to encode them FIRST in Premiere Pro as desired, and THEN import those files into Encore.
I've used Adobe Media Encoder a lot to export the individual segments into files I could upload to Youtube and have had no problem for the last several months.
    But now, two things happen:
    1) AME automatically designates the "Output File" with an .aac extension (see attached)
    2) When I do an "Import As" of the AME encoded file in Encore it only loads an audio file (obviously)
    Huh?
Here are the settings I use in my Export Media dialogue in Premiere Pro CS6:
    Format: MPEG2-DVD
    Preset: NTSC Widescreen High Quality
Output Name (and filetype): ______ name with Save as Type of "Video Files(*.mpg)
BOTH the "Export Video" and "Export Audio" boxes are checked (see attached screen print)
Filters Tab: left as is, don't do anything here
    Multiplexer Tab:
choose the "DVD" button (vs the "None" button)
Bitrate Type: left as Variable which is what is selected as a default
    Video Tab:
    Codec: Reads MainConcept MPEG Video
Quality: increase it to the max of 5
    TV Standard: NTSC
    Frame Rate: 29.97
    Field Order: None (Progressive)
    Pixel Aspect Ration: Widescreen 16:9
Render at Maximum Depth box checked
Bitrate Encoding: I choose CBR for my high quality segments and VBR 2-pass for my lower quality segments
Bitrate: kick it up to the max for high qulaity segments, adjust as needed to get the filesize I want for my lower quality segments
    Audio Tab:
    Audio Format: Dolby Digital
    Codec: Dolby Digital
Bitrate: At least 320, sometimes higher for the segments I want to be the highest quality
I check the "Use Maximum Render Quality" box
I chose "Queue" for everything and then let it run overnight
And yes, the original media has BOTH a video track and an audio track that works (see Screenprint)
So... what am I doing wrong, helpful experts????

Larry, Mark, Jim & Bill -
It is 1 am Tuesday morning and I'd do a primal scream if my family weren't all sleeping upstairs.
Somewhere along the way, I either read or was given the advice to just skip AME, load my videos as timelines in Encore, and just do the transcoding there.
I spent almost a day trying to figure out how to get "buttons" for my menus I was building (they weren't appearing in Encore's library like they should) and eventually found a simply workaround.
So I then spent the last 24 hours or so building all my menus, creating small clips for my "motion menu" buttons, getting all that straightened away.
Got really excited earlier tonight since it seemed like I was nearly finished and coming down the home stretch.
I hit "build" in Encore, went away for a couple hours, and came back to find a big error message awaiting me telling me that "Encoding Failed."
I have read a lot of posts, and the outlook is not good, or at least the possible solution not simple or short from a time perspective.
I have a 100 families awaiting their DVD they've paid for that they initially were told they'd have by mid-February. I've been telling everybody that they would have it - guaranteed - by this weekend when there's a band festival that would be ideal for distribution. The DVD duplication company says they have to have it by Wed morning at the absolute latest. Meaning I've got about 24 hours to figure this out and burn my dual-layer masters of the two DVDs or once again tell people "I know I guaranteed you'd have it by this weekend, but I don't have it ready yet."
Almost as importantly, I can't afford to keep spending the hours and hours and hours on this that I have. It's impacting my personal and professional life.
    Thus the primal scream.
The posts I read about the encoding failure all pretty much advise that I use AME to do all the transcoding work. Which of course brings me squarely back to my original problem: I cannot get a video file out of AME.
I'm embedding a screenshot of what I see when I click on the pull-down menu in the AME dialogue window. The problem: there is no MPEG2-DVD option listed to be chosen.
Although I'm relatively new to forums, I've read enough posts by now that it seems like most people are in crisis mode when they post. So I realize my situation is not all that unique. But from a newbie rookie in the field to you experts, I REALLY could use some assistance right now, because between this and the long, cold winter we've had, I'm about to lose it.  :-)
P.S. Mark, in answer to your question about frame rates, I have 18 different videos/films/projects that I'm including in my two DVD-set. There have probably been nearly 6-7 different cameras that have contributed footage to one or more of those films by borrowing camcorders of different brands and types and quality levels from people. Nearly every one of those 18 films have multi-camera sequences in them. And many films are collections of sequences which themselves are "nested sequences" sometimes three deep.  In otherwords, there is no way I can tell you all the various frame rates that may be represented among these 18 separate projects and I certainly can't go back and hope to change them all to the same one.
    Help. Please.  :-)

  • Premiere Pro CS6 crashing on daily basis

Hello. The company I work for purchased Premiere Pro CS6 recently due to Apples direction for Final Cut.
We have been editing a full length motion picture and being able to edit in native RED has been great. However we have been experiencing one to two or more complete crashes a day with Premier to the chagrin of our editor. I know full RED support is fairly new, but this is getting more and more frustrating as the days go by.
We are running it on an iMac. OS 10.7.4,  i7 processor, and 8GB of RAM.  The footage is being edited from an external G-RAID hard drive via firewire 800.

I too am experiencing serious crash woes on Premeire CS6 (.0.2). I'm working on a solid Mac Pro with a crazy fast raid setup, and Ive sunk money into extra ram and a Quadro 4000 GFX card, which has helped a few things, but overall I'm so bummed on the constant errors that hold up my day...
1- Projects that worked the day before suddenly "encountering an error forcing Premiere to close" (politically correct way of saying "your app is crashing so save if you can jerky"). I have to save a new version of my project in another location every day at this point, which screws with my backup system.
2- Projects that crash  when I click on a Multicam sequence.
This week Media Encoder crashes every time I try to render something more than a few minutes long in the background while working in Premiere.
Rarely do I have a bug free day on new setup. I'm gonna puke if I have to trash prefs & repair disk permissions again. On that note, get preference manager if you don't have it already. It's a lifesaver for this kind of crap.
This is all Apple's fault. If Final Cut X had never been released, I'd be half way done with this doco edit by now. Premiere is such a nice app in theory, but falls so short in action...
Any advice besides "trash prefs, repair permissions" much appreciated
