Premiere Pro CS6 Extreme Lag / Choppiness In Playback Please Help

I have a brand new Windows 8.1 Desktop
1 GB Video Card AMD Radeon 7700
16 GB Ram
3.4 Ghz i7-3770 CPU
Scratch Disk on an external drive that spins at 7200 RPM
I'm coming from a Macbook Pro (with less specs then the current desktop I'm using) in which I had no problem with playback choppiness/lag with premiere pro cs6, so this has been quite frustrating to figure out.  I've looked at several other threads, etc and there has been little help on the subject it seems.  If anyone has any tips, advice, or can point me in the right direction to get rid of the lag/choppyness that would be a blessing.

Okay I solved the problem.
If anyone else encounters this here's how you solve it.
Goto "Sequence"
Goto "Sequence Settings"
Here you will see "Video Previews"
Preview File Format
I switched from "Microsoft AVI" to "P2 720p 60hz dvcprohd"
Now there is no lag/choppiness in any of my video preview files.  HOORAY!

As the title says, everything on my project is lagging. The footage is lagging and all the audio sounds like it's in slowmotion. This isnt only happening to already edited footage and audio within a sequence, it's happening to footage and audio i imported and placed into a bin. Essentially this is happening to everything I have within adobe premiere pro CS6 on my laptop. Can anybody please tell me what's wrong and how I can fix this? thank you!

  • Converted .avi to .mp4 for Premiere Pro CS6 but receive a header error.. help?

When I imported .avi video file into Premiere Pro CS6, only the audio played. I used VLC to convert the .avi file to .mp4 through a batch file. Now when I try to open the .mp4 file into Premiere Pro CS6, I receive an error "File cannot be opened because of a header error".
I've tried converting the .avi file to .mov and .wav but they receive the same header error.
I've also tried opening in Audition and resaving it as .wav pc but it still won't import to Premiere.

First, depending on what is inside the AVI file, it should/might be "naturally" supported by Premiere

  • Premiere Pro CS6 extreme project bloating and Media Encoder

    Hi there,
I'm interested in hearing if others are having this issue and if there's a fix.  I first noticed this bug in CS5 and it hasn't changed in CS6.0.1.  An editor I'm working with recently discovered the problem at the expense of a project being usable the day before clients are coming in to work on cuts.
Here's what's happening: we have a 20MB commercial project, no warp stabilizer in play, no frequent "save as..." commands being used, both of which seem to contribute to project bloating based on some online research.  I've been using Premiere as a finishing timeline since CS5 and noticed back then, when we were making some settings in Media Encoder, that when you click and drag sequences into ME instead of using the "Add Premiere Pro Sequence" menu option, the Premiere project file size quickly increases and saves and autosaves start taking several minutes to complete.
We've been using the "Add Premiere Pro Sequence" method to send things to ME on this project but the editor was getting impatient the amount of time it was taking for ME to load the project and get to the point where he could pick which sequences he wanted to encode.  He did a bit of research and found the click and drag method to be faster.  After a handful of times using this method, the project size went from 20MB to 3.71GB.  Our autosave folder is set keep 5 versions of the project and you can see the project size doubling from 477MB to 840MB to 1.6GB.
I was able to import the 477MB project into a new project and save it out at its original size of 20MB.  However, this meant that we lost about 90 minutes worth of work.  I tried to import the 3.71GB file overnight and it had made no progress when I came in this AM.
Reading online, I found that the "Save As..." command had previously caused some kind of duplication of preview file links in the project code.  I opened up our 20MB project in TextWrangler and compared it to the 840MB project's lines of code.  The 20MB project had 400k lines and the 840MB project had about a million.  The difference appeared to stem from links to Preview files.  I wanted to try to clear those out to see if I could get the project size down but, probably because of the file size, TextWrangler crashed.
Is there any way to clean out the bloat from these projects without importing into a new project?  Also, are there settings in Media Encoder or Premiere that will prevent the bloat from happening when using the click-drag method of getting sequences into ME?  We're using the "Use Preview Files" option, which greatly speeds up the compression in ME, but might be contributing to the issue.
    Here are the machine specs:
    Mac Pro 2.66 GHz 12-core
    16GB RAM
    NVidia Quadro 4000
    ATTO Fibrechannel card
    Blackmagic Design Decklink Extreme 2
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
    Best,
    Jon

    Thank you for your response.
-I tried exporting an AVI and the file exported succesfully but with a warning "Adobe Media Encoder Could not write XMP data in output file." The file plays fine though and is over 5.5GB. So that's odd that my h.264 which is under 1GB won't fully export.
-Yes, the same thing happens when exporting directly from PrPro instead of using AME.
-In this project I am using NO Dynamic Links.
-I have not installed any codec libraries.
    -I do not use 3rd party plug-ins.
-My destination drive has several terabytes.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 Crashing very often! Please Help!

    Hello,
I am currently editing my first feature on Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 and it is currently up to date.
I am editing on a iMac 27in, late 2013 brand new computer.
Processor: 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 32GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096MB
    System: OSX Yosemite V 10.10.1
The project is located on a 8TB G Drive
    7200 RPM
    High Performance ThunderBolt drive.
    Details of the project:
I am currently working on a fine cut of 5K Red Footage that is being cut in the RAW.
I work at 1/2 quality settings and have no lag.
The timeline includes limited stacked video files and various mp3 audio files.
    The Problem:
Lately, the program will randomly quit or freeze up 4-5 times during an 5-6 hour edit session.
Many times it is random, however, it seems to happen often if I accidentally click on the end of a clip on the timeline and it goes to switch into trimming mode.
Also, it will randomly go into the "pinwheel of death" out of nowhere followed by "Adobe CC is not responding."
My project file is just about 15MB now.
What is causing this reoccurring problem?
How can I make it happen less?  I have scoured the forums and found similar articles but no helpful solutions.
I have recently turned auto save on to save every 2 minutes because there have been more than one occasion where I lost A LOT of work because of this issue.
I am about two weeks out from picture lock delivery and this issue is driving me crazy and loosing me a ton of time.
Please help or let me know if any more additional information can help solve the issue.
I have sent in well over 25 error reports already.
    Thanks,
    Thomas.

I think I may have found the solution...
I completely removed the Premiere Pro folder under User > Documents > Adobe and so far it seems to have solved the problem.
I of course backed up my projects and than deleted this folder. So far it seems it worked.
I'll know for sure in a day or two, but after constantly crashing, Premiere hasn't crashed for the last 4-5 hours of work.

  • Premiere Pro 5.5 program monitor goes blank, please help!

I started a super simple brand new project in Premiere Pro 5.5, importing only simple, small resolution png files (to create an animation), and my program monitor goes completely blank.  This started happening right when I updated the driver for my video card. I run a Windows 7 64-bit machine, with NVidia Quadro 2000, driver updated (333.11), source footage is png files, my OS is up to date, I use just a single monitor, there are no error messages at all, when I try to scrub, my program monitor stops working (it shows a still image), then suddenly it goes completely black!  I have no third party effects, plug-ins or hardware installed. And yes, my Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration is good.  I am completely stumped since the project is barely started. Does anyone have any ideas?!

  • Adobe CC Premiere Pro Exporting Excruciatingly Slow... Please Help?

Hi guys, school project due in a few hours, and I've been fighting with premiere pro for close to 15 hours on a 15 minute video. It's pretty basic, a little bit of footage and a few pictures in 1920x1080, but for the life of me this thing will not export. It starts off very quick but slows to a crawl and then curls up and stops. My system doesn't pull any punches: i7 3770k, 16 gb 1600 mhz ram, 2x 780 ti. Any suggestions??? I'm dying here.

    Thank you for the help!

  • Premiere Pro CC 7.2.1 serious error please help.

I have been working on this multi camera edit for two days with no problem but this morning every time I try to open the project i get this message.
Premiere Pro has encountered an error.
    [/ppro721/releases/2013.10/shared/adobe/MediaCore/MediaLayer/ImporterHost/Make/Mac/../../S rc/Audio/AudioWaveform.cpp-173]
Then it says a serious error has occured and the program closes out. I have tried starting a new project and importing my sequences but the same message pops up again as soon as I link to it. I also tried opening an older autosave but the same thing happens.

    Hi Manny,
There are 2 different Common folders. The path I gave is to the User library, that's where you'll find the cache files.
Apple has hidden the User library I beliebe since 10.7. Here's to ways to get there:
    Method 1
In the Finder, choose Go > Go To Folder.
In the Go To Folder dialog, type ~/Library
    Click Go.
    Method 2
Hold down the Alt (Option) key when using the Go menu. The user library folder is listed below the current user's home directory.
    Once there follow this path:

  • Premiere Pro CS6, Extremely Long Export Times - ProRes

    All,
Trying to figureout what I'm doing wrong. My sequence is 1920x1080, 29.97 and ProRes 422. The entire thing has already been rendered. I've checked "Use Previews"
    See below:
    Any suggestions? It's a 5:30 sequence.
    Thanks!

All video movies on Mac are Quicktime, even uncompressed, which can be achieved with Quicktime None or Animation 100%.  Both of those are 8-bit, though, which would defeat "Use Maximum Render Quality," if so desired.
IINM, image sequences may not require QT.  But, then you migh have issues if the next app in the transcode process don't accept image sequences.  And they're not available as a Preview File Format on Mac.
However, ProRes is a perfectly fine preview file format.  It's just that Pr doesn't always use the Previews on export, the way it should.
I usually master to ProRes, and when doing so, Pr usually will use the Previews, and they are fast.
In any event, I don't normally experience the overly long exports from Pr.  Looking back at the OP, a 2 hour export for a 5:30 sequence is outragous, and I believe is a sign of something else amiss, other than typical Pr behavior.

  • Importing a recorded Skype call into Premiere Pro & audio goes out of sync. PLEASE help!

Every time I try and import a clip it gets out of sync, but if I open the file in quicktime its perfect???

(Not sure why this response was originally rejected by the moderators, but am trying again.)
A solution that worked for us:
[EDIT] I do NOT work for any of the companies included in this solution, nor do I receive any kind of renumeration from them. I am recording the software and steps we used to overcome the problem of the original poster.[END EDIT]
The Skype Call Recorder (Ecamm) has 4 built-in converter/splitter apps (you have to look in the "Movie Files" folder to find them). We used the apps to split the recorded Skype video calls into 2 separate "conversations" and then used a free online converter (http://www.online-convert.com/) to convert the conversations into MP4s. Once the MP4s were imported into Adobe Premiere the audio lined up perfectly with the video.
    Hope this helps somebody.

  • Playback Lag in Premiere Pro CS6 for Mac

I'm editing a project in Premiere Pro CS6 for Mac, and the playback is really laggy. Its fine if you're viewing one long clip, but it gets really laggy when it switches between clips. The sound will play, but the playback screen will be frozen on the last frame from the previous clip. I use the latest thin model of the iMac. Can anybody help me?

    >Premiere Pro CS6 with the 6.0.0 update
Is there a specific reason you have not applied the bug fix updates?
All Adobe updates start here and select product, read to see if you need to install
updates in number order, or if the updates are cumulative for the individual product
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
Also, only having one hard drive means your computer is having to "struggle" with file operations
An EXAMPLE concerning trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the
orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do
Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct
the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with
your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another
very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more on partitions) with Windows (or Mac OS)
and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is
not slowed down by trying to do everything
External eSata or USB3 are both fast enough for video editing... eSata is better -
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1117813
Do not try to use USB2 for video editing, it is too slow

What's new in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 6.0.1:
    May 26th, 2012
Features added or changed in this update:
    · Improved performance using OpenCL, especially when used on Mac OSX v10.7.4 or later.
    · Added encoding presets with additional bit-rate settings for XDCAM HD.
    · Added Automatic Peak File Generation preference in the Audio category for turning off automatic peak file generation for imported audio. By default, this preference is enabled and matches the behavior of Premiere Pro CS6 (6.0.0).
    · When this preference is disabled, importing audio or opening projects will not cause peak files to be generated. If peak files were already generated, then waveforms will be visible. Files imported before the preference was disabled will continue to generate peak files.
    · Enabled “smart rendering” and added Enable Smart Rendering Codec setting to the Video tab of the MXF OP1a exporters for XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX to enable or disable smart rendering for these formats. This option defaults to the off/disabled state. We’ll have more information about this feature in a post on this blog within a day.
    Bugs fixed in this update:
    · Start timecode was not imported or exported correctly when working with AAF files.
    · Some files from the Canon 5D Mark III camera were imported with the wrong timecode.
    · Playing/viewing waveforms in the Source Monitor caused audio dropouts with some XDCAM HD clips.
    · NTSC MXF OP1a files that were exported with drop-frame timecode had video data that was tagged as non-drop-frame.
    · Switching the Renderer project setting from Mercury Playback Engine Software Only to Mercury Playback Acceleration GPU Acceleration on a computer using OpenCL caused Premiere Pro to crash under some circumstances. Switching between the two settings on a computer using CUDA would in some cases cause problems with video and/or audio playback.
    · Crash when using full-screen, cinema mode on some computer systems.
    · Tape capture was not working correctly with some third-party systems.
    · Crash when capturing from tape using some BlackMagic hardware.
    · An extra, black frame was included at the end of the output when exporting to P2 MXF in some circumstances.
    · First two frames were being played twice on external monitor using Matrox MXO2.
    · Crash when using “hover scrub” with Matrox MXO2.
    · Audio/video synchronization was off by a few frames when playing video on external monitor.
    · The Export Frame button was not exporting the correct frame, instead exporting a frame one or two frames away from the current frame.
    · Some audio files and some MXF files would go offline or have their audio reconformed when the project was re-opened or when Premiere Pro was minimized or lost focus.
    · Crash when modifying an effect property while playback was occurring.
    · Hang/freeze when using a dissolve transition on an adjustment layer.
    · Dropped frames and audio/video synchronization issues when exporting to tape using some third-party hardware.
    · Information about dropped frames on output to tape was not accessible to third-party systems.
    · Some QuickTime files were imported with the wrong field order.
    · When audio was sent through a Mercury Transmit plug-in, any number of channels that was not 2 or 6 was treated as mono.
    · In HDV editing mode, File > Export > Tape could not be used with third-party hardware.
    · The current-time indicator (playhead) was not returning to the current time after using the Play Around command.
    · Last several frames of output when exporting to tape were black.
    · When encoding a 23.976 fps video to H.264, the duration of the video in the output .m4v file was too short, and audio drifted out of synchronization with the video.
    · Transparency (alpha channel) information from a dynamically linked After Effects composition was rendered incorrectly in Premiere Pro.
    · Importing some QuickTime OP1a files caused Premiere Pro to hang.
    · The duration of the audio track sent to SpeedGrade using the Send To SpeedGrade command was the length of the entire Premiere Pro sequence, not the length of the work area.
    · Timecode written to trimmed clips using the Project Manager did not match the source timecode for some QuickTime files.
    · Various other crashes.

Playback has frozen in Premiere Pro CS6.  I am running a 1080p timeline and it appeared to start when I added some after effects renders to my timeline.  The playback head still runs through the timeline and audio plays normally but the video completely stops and cannot be viewed in real time.
I have plenty of memory and a very good graphics card running 64Bit Windows 7.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 playback freezes, regenerates .pek and .cfa files

When I try to watch something in a sequence, the Program Monitor freezes. The playhead moves in the timeline as usual and the audio plays just fine, but the visual freezes. Sometimes it stops a few seconds after I start playing and sometimes the video never plays at all. When I stop playback, it remains frozen for a while, then resets to the frame the playhead is on.
As I checked different options, I discovered Premiere is regenerating both the .pek and .cfa files every time I open it, even though all of my projects have already conformed. I have it set to store the media files with the project, so I know the preview files have not moved or been deleted. I work on this setup 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and nothing changed since I was in yesterday. It was working fine when I shut it down last night, no one could have logged in while I was gone, and this morning it doesn't work. No updates were installed, no files were moved, no drives switched.
I have searched the internet for help, but all of the forums I've found are at least two months old and recommend installing the 6.0.3 update. I did run updates for all my Adobe software, and it didn't help. I also deleted and re-rendered my peak and cfa files.
One six-month-old forum said that Premiere CS6 cannot playback long AVCHD .m2ts files. Previously I had no problem working with .m2ts files 35 minutes and shorter, or with .mp4 files up to 75 minutes long. The video I'm currently working with is about 75 minutes long. And again, it was working fine yesterday.
Further investigation revealed that playback does not freeze when I import a selection from the Source Monitor (vs. importing from the Bin and trimming in the Timeline) and do not layer clips or apply effects.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

    I've tried several more things.
The playback does not freeze if I have only one clip in the timeline.
If I have clips on two or more video tracks, it starts freezing.
Once I clear it down to one video track, it takes a couple of seconds (up to 30) to start playing normally again.
Sometimes I can play two tracks for several minutes before it freezes. Sometimes it freezes immediately.
When I open Premiere, I get the "Media Pending" screen for way longer than usual.
I have rebuilt the peak and cfa files, no difference. GPU accelerator is enabled. The latest Adobe updates are installed.
I see a few other forums with similar problems but no solution.
No settings, file formats, or file locations have changed since Monday (the last time CS6 was working properly). After a lot of digging around I found that a Windows Defender Definition update was installed the morning of the day PP started freaking out. I can't get rid of this update.
I edit two or more hours of footage per day. They are lectures, so they are recorded in 1-3 hour chunks. I use two videos simultaneously--one with the professor's powerpoint presentation, and one of the professor. I keyframe the PPT video into the corner, overlaid over the lecturer. I did this for years without problem in CS5.5 and for two months without problem on my current setup.
