Premiere Pro CS6 Mac Playback Issues

I've searched for similar issues, and while I found plenty of playback issues, I didn't see anything like what I'm experiencing.
MacPro Quad-Core Xeon 2.26 x2 (8b cores)
12 GB ram
OS 10.6.8 (can't update this due to other infrastructure)
Nvidia GeForce GT 120
FAST Fiber attached SAN
Local Raid0 media drive
I know the GPU isn't compatible with the Mercury hardware acceleration.
I've been a Premiere Pro user since version 2 and have kept current through the years.  I'm happily running CS5.5 on PC's in my home office.  I recently installed the trial version of CS6 on my Mac at work to evaluate for that environment, and I'm pulling my hair out trying to get over some basic issues.  I have no problems with Media Encoder or AE.
In Premiere using preview or program (timeline), playback stops after roughly a second...  though it varies by several frames each time.  I tested this with various video files, .wav files, stills (jpeg, psd), etc.  I even tested with black video and bars generated inside Premiere.  The problem persists with all of the above...  click play, and playback stops after about a second.  Scrubbing works great...  I've tried different playback resolutions.  I'm not using any 3rd party monitoring devices or I/O cards on this machine.
I have FCP 7 installed on the same machine and have no trouble editing and playing 1080i video all day long.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

The above suggestion worked for me briefly, but the problem keeps re-occuring.
I too am using Snow Leopard 10.6.8, NVIDIA gfx card (8800) and an ATI Radeon 5500.
Premiere played back fine in Lion and Mountain Lion, but I downgraded because I have old quicktime files and Final Cut 7 projects that i need to work with so Lion is not an option for me.
Bizarre behavior if you ask me.
Any help on this?

After a few weeks idol my Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 (mac) will not completely launch. It tells me a serious error has occurred, it shuts down and the circle continues. I've even reloaded  the app and it happens again. I did upgraded to Yosemite but I can't find anyone else having probs with Yosemite. Any ideas. No luck on the adobe site.

CS6 is about 3 years old... even the latest Cloud versions had to have updates to be compatible... since you have "reloaded" (was that a full uninstall and reinstall?) I have no other suggestions

    Welcome to the forum.
First thing that I would do would be to look at this Adobe KB Article to see if it helps.

If that does not help, a Repair Install would definitely be in order.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Mac - Second monitor stopped working

I have been using CS6 with a dual monitor setup for a few weeks.  I have enabled the second display for video playback in the settings and everything worked great.  Now for some reason the second display isn't working anymore with Premiere Pro for video playback (It won't full screen preview) even though the option for my second monitor is checked in the preferences. I didn't make any changes to my system that I know of.  I'd really like to figure this out because it is quite annoying and frustrating that it worked perfectly 2 weeks ago and now it doesn't work at all. (Have restarted system already) Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I talked with Tech support and they were able to help me solve the issue.  The solution involved moving my program onto the second monitor and then reversing the option setting (Ie, make the primary monitor my playback monitor)... after that I switched it back by moving the program to the primary monitor and set the secondary monitor as my playback monitor.  Seems to work fine now.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Video Playback Problem/Bug

I have been editing a video for the past few weeks, but recently, after I have been editing for a few minutes, all of a sudden my video won't play in the playback window. When I hit the play button (or the space bar) it does nothing - just sits there. All of the clips are rendered (with the green bar), but I cant see my changes because it doesn't play. I am even able to move the cursor along the timeline and it will show the video in the playback window, but it won't play back in real time. Like I said I have been using Premiere Pro CS6 for a while and havent had this problem until now. Also, when I drag a clip into the preview window, it doesn't play either (but I am able to move the cursor along the timeline). I have to shut down Premiere and open it up again, then it works for a few minutes again, and then the same problem occurs. Please help! The specs for my lap top are as follows: Macbook Pro Retina Display, 2.6 GHZ i7, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD

Do you ONLY have that single 500gig drive?
If yes, you are below specification... which requires a separate drive for video files
An EXAMPLE concerning trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the
orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do
Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct
the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with
your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another
very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more on partitions) with Windows (or Mac OS)
and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is
not slowed down by trying to do everything
Do not try to use a USB2 external drive for video editing, the USB2 file transfer speed
    is too slow
External eSata or USB3 are both fast enough for video editing... eSata is better -

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 Playback Issue / Crash Mac Pro 2011

    Hi,
I've been having a big crash issue on Premiere Pro CC 2014, since the 2014.1 update.
2014.0 has been working fine this year but the update has crashed some of my biggest current projects.
Programs just starts fine, workspace responds, but anything related to playback just crashes or freezes Premiere.
    My config:
    Mac Pro Mid 2010
    Processor : 2x2,93 6-core Xeon
    Ram : 24Go 1333
    2x ATI Radeon HD 5770.
I've been reading all major topics on this, this i did :
    - disable Mercury Transmission
    - Flushes Premiere cache
    - Reinstall premiere
    - Updated to Mavericks (issue happened both in 10.9 and 10.10 - thought updating drivers+opencl would help, then again no)
    - Repaired permissions
    - Tried with another user session
    … and so on.
Nothing yet has solved my issue, anyone to help me on this major trouble ?
Thanks in advance, best regards !
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
    Try the following:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe folder preferences are set to read/write in all 3 locations.
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot
I placed the chief culprits in bold.
Report back if anything here worked for you.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Rendering problems with Cineform files Premiere Pro CS6 Mac

Using CS6 Premiere Pro (latest updates) on MAC OS X 10.8.2 with Cineform stereoskopic files. Generally all looks good. Preview is working smoothly. When rendering (H264 Blu ray, MP2 DVD, Quicktime.. does not seem to matter) slowly the number of threads is increasing while rendering and when there are about 2050 threads or so then rendering just halts, CPU load going down, progress stops, rendering never finishes. Anybody having an idea what could be the issue?! Thanks

Okay how should I be exporting the files to use in premiere then? I exported a couple that were just a minute long and they ended up being 2 gb...

  • How to transfer and use the project files from Premiere Pro cs6 MAC OS to Premiere Pro CS6 Windows

Is there any plugin or tool that can help me to transfer my project files along data edited on adobe premiere cs6 MAC OS to the adobe premiere pro cs 6 on windows PC

When transferring a project from one computer to another,to stop errors such as these, its essential to ensure that the project is copied with all the files and folders in exactly the same locations. Also before opening the project on the new computer, you need to set up a new project and set all the preferences to be exactly the same as on the first computer. Then when you open the project, premiere will find all the files in all the right places. Even then you may need to re-link some files. Just follow the prompts when Premiere asks "Where is file...."
We use USB hard drives to store students projects on and they are used on many different computers without problems, as the preferences are all set to be the same.

It would not play AT ALL. this has been happening for almost a week now and i have tried everything to fix it, Re-installing premiere, Re booting my computer, literally everything else. It has gotten to a point where the wedding i have been working on is almost over due and i cant have that. • Premiere Pro/Encore CS5 playback issues

I successfully created a DVD (of a hockey practice) through Premiere Pro (linked to Encore) with no errors. It plays back properly on 3 different Windows 7 computers through Windows Media Player, but I tried it in my standalone DVD player and it will not even read the disk. This player is older, but it does play rented movies with no issues.
I tried the DVD I created on two other computers running XP OS with Windows media player. It played one one XP computer but not the other. On the one XP computer that was able to read the DVD, when the shot included a skater who was moving quickly, the image of the skater looked like it changed to vertical lines. If the static or slow moving elements of the shot are not look distorted. There is no distortion on the computers running W7 OS.
Since I am ovbiously new to this process, I was wondering:
    1.  Why the XP computers (and my standard DVD player) are not able to play the video and what I can do to compensate if a person who wants to view this DVD has XP or an older DVD player.
    2.  Why does the other player show quickly moving objects as distorted (and can I compensate for it).
Thank you to anyone who can help.

I'm not entirely sure what you meant by...
"Create an ISO (Encore) or folder on your hard drive (Encore or Premiere Elements) and then use the FREEhttp://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write files or folders or ISO to disc (send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program)"
Basically, there are three ways to publish a DVD from Encore:
    Burn to Disc
    Burn to Folder
    Burn to Image
Two and three are similar, though different. In two, one burns to a VIDEO_TS Folder, which contains all of the IFO, BUP and VOB files required. This VIDEO_TS Folder can be burned to disc, say with the great, free ImgBurn, or similar, or can be played in most DVD software players. Note: Windows Media Player is not the best, and depending on several factors, might not even play a fully-compliant VIDEO_TS Folder. MediaPlayer Classic HC (free), or CyberLink PowerDVD (either the free, or commercial versions) would be better. There are also others that do a better job, than WMP.
For three, instead of the VIDEO_TS Folder, one burns an Image, or ISO file. Think of this as a ZIP file (though it is NOT a ZIP, but an ISO, the concept is very similar) with the VIDEO_TS Folder inside, plus its files included into an ISO container. This can also be burned to disc, and ImgBurn handles that task well, or can be played via some DVD software players (such as VLC Player), or "mounted" via other software, and then played by most DVD software players.
As you can see, two and three are similar, but there ARE differences. Some users prefer the VIDEO_TS Folder, while other like the contained ISO file.
Good luck, and hope that this helps,

  • Premiere Pro CS6 no playback, Yosemite

Hi, I'm running CS6 on Yosemite with a GTX 770, and I can not playback any video files. I got cuda activated in the list, and the mecury enginine ist working. Rendering previews and media is really fast. Also I can scrub through the media, and move frame by frame, but normal playback and also the classic "j" "k" "l" keys do not work. Any solutions? Do I need to activate OpenCL? How can that be done? Thanks

    Hi,
Do you mean that the Play / Pause button doesn't work? Are you able to see the video in the source and program monitors properly and scrub through it? Do you hear audio while playing back?
You can switch to OpenCL or software only under File > Project settings > General and see if that helps.
Playback issues can be caused be connecting external audio devices sometimes. Have you connected any?
    Thanks,
    Rameez

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Merucry Playback on Nvidia 650M MacBook Pro??

With Apple just announcing the new super powerful Macbook Pro's with Retina display I wanted to ask the two obvious questions:
    1. Will Mercury Playback Engine use the Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 1Gb GFX processor for CUDA (384 cuda cores!) accellerated playback? (its a beat of a mobile processor so fingers crossed?!)  If so anyone from Adobe comment on how long for an update?
    2. When will Adobe provide an update to use the high Retina Display resolutions?
Exciting laptop for video editing, fingers crossed Adobe can utilise that power and resolution to the full!
Nvidia blogged about the GFX processor here: http://blogs.nvidia.com/2012/06/new-apple-macbook-pros-feature-kepler-class-geforce-gpus/
    Cheers

I think I'd be accused of being 'aggressive' if Adobe had this GPU sprung upon them.  However this will not be the case.  The processor has been around for a while, it's inclusion was rumoured many weeks if not months ago, and Apple will surely have been in discussions with Adobe about the inclusion of the processor (just like they were about the Retina display as Photoshop was shown at the WWDC yesterday and Apple said Adobe are already working on an update to utilise the retina display). Yes there will be a lead time, but I'm sure Adobe knew way before yesterday!
I'm merely asking the question, and for those editors looking to upgrade laptops it would be useful to know whether Adobe plan to include this GPU in it's approved list.  This is Apple's most powerful laptop ever (and a huge resource for pro video editors around the world) and it would be rather crazy for Adobe to ignore the potential of this machine, especially in their efforts to tempt FCP switchers over to Adobe Premiere CS6 (very evidently a target market).  So an early announcement can only help.  I don't think that's too unrealistic!
Make a feature request if you want this GPU to be supported for the Mercury Playback Engine: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
Of course, we cannot talk about our future plans, but you can check out what we have done in the past regarding certifying new GPUs. That may give you some clue about our intentions.

  • Premiere pro cs6 mac import failure prores and dnxhd says unsupported format or damaged file

    Hi All,
I'm running OSX Mavericks and have avchd footage imported into my project.  It's all rendered out.  I'm making an intermediate file and have tried dnxhd and prores formats.  When I created a new project and tried to import either format I get the error above.  Also, when trying to play the prores file with quicktime it won't play.  I have a Windows virtual machine with an older version of premier pro that has neat video.  I've created dnxhd file on it and was able to import the file into PP on the mac and process them int h.264 movies.  What do you think is causing the error to not be able to import either format on my mac?  Could there be an error on the export in media encoder?
    Mark

It looks like I solved my own problem and wanted to post the resolution.  Apparently, the Avid codecs don't play nice with Quicktime on a Mac and cause Adobe QT32 Server to crash.  Even though a file was made, with QT32 Server crashing it was unreadable.  The first thing I did was to remove all of the codecs in MacHD/Library/Quicktime.  I restarted my computer.  Then I added back the Apple codecs.  Voila, I can now encode to Prores.  I tried to add back the Avid dn codec only, and I had the same problem.  I tried version 2.3.7 and 2.3.9 without success.  Looks like I wont' be able to encode  any DNXHD files, and reading my existing ones will require adding the codec, exporting to a non-quicktime format and then removing the codec for any future prores encoding.  If anyone has a solution to get Avid DNXHD codec working please let me know.
