Premiere Pro CS6 - Shouldn't be THIS slow..?

I have the following spec machine:
Macbook Pro 2.4 Core i7 (Late 2011) 16GB RAM
Running Mac OS X 10.8
1x LaCie Thunderbolt drive (media)
1x USB 2.0 scratch disk (media cache)
Local 512Gb SSD (project files)
Set up like the above surely shouldn't be staggering along with fans blazing? I currently have a 2 minute video sequence 1920x1080 with 1x adjustment layer for colour correction TURNED OFF and it still can't play back properly even at half the quality...
Is the above setup wrong? I was always taught to split the locations of project files, media and cache... Happy to listen to anyone who knows better though? Thunderbolt drive is so fast so why oh why is this struggling..
Auto graphics switching is also OFF so it isn't that..

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I've also been experiencing super slow performance with Premiere Pro CS6.
My setup is as follows:
MacBook Pro
2.2GHz i7
8GB DDR3 RAM
500GB Harddrive with 30GB available
AMD Radeon HD 6750M
I'm editing footage from a 550D DSLR, which comes out the camera in H264 format.
The project I'm currently working on should by no means be very processor intensive. It simply cuts between 10 different shots of a person talking to the camera, and there are only 13 video clips imported into the project.
I experienced very choppy and slow playback until I read your post Greg. I had GPU acceleration turned on, so I decided to try turning it off. I instantly noticed improved performance. Is my machine simply not cut out for GPU acceleration?

Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Annemarie!I'm using a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 (which has a microphone on the side). I have several other devices plugged into separate USB slots: a keyboard, a mouse, my iPhone, and a Roland keyboard midi controller.
I've considered that maybe the webcam/mic combo is the culprit. If USB doesn't work at a constant speed, that could very well be causing the issue! The sound begins to lag badly sometimes when it's working properly, so that there's a multisecond delay between speaking and hearing my voice repeated back over the mic which is another sign that something is wrong. I've also caught it making a strange electronic sound during its "hang" time once it stops taking sound input correctly.
Maybe I should try to use line-in and forgo USB altogether then. I think I'd need a preamp and some sort of converter for that since the Mac Mini lacks a powered mic jack. I'm only a newbie musician so I've never set up such a system but it might be a better solution in the long run.
I'll check to see if it hangs before or after my computer enters suspend mode, that's a good suggestion too. Thank you for your help! -

I have downloaded the files for Premiere CS6

I have run PremierePro_6_LS7.exe and, having specified load with serial number, reached the point of entering the serial number.
"We are unable to validate this serial number for Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Family."
I have checked my account and the license is on file.
The serial number is 24 digits in 6 groups of 4 characters.
Please provide an answer to this.
I've been using Adobe Premiere since 2006 and currently have CS5.5.
This is the first time I have had problems trying to download and set up a version.
It has taken most of the day so far!

Slow motion and trailing in premiere pro cs6
attached is a sample of a clip edited years ago with liquid edition.
In liquid edition "timewarp editor" you could create slow motion together with trailing effect as it shows in the attached clip.
I wonder if it can be done in premiere pro cs6
thanks arikwWell, you could do it manually if you wanted to. Just pile up a few tracks of the same clip and offset each one by a frame or two from the others. Then set the opacity to something low, like 25%, and see how that looks.
There may be an effect for it that I just am not familiar with. -
If I select a clip on my Timeline in Premiere Pro CS6, everything to the right of it is also selected. What can I change in my settings to prevent this from happening?

Could have been... do you have a supervisor who keeps track of what is ordered and how it is purchased?
Do you have access to the Adobe ID that was used to install the software so you may check the account?

I'm a new user and learning, I bought and installed Premiere Pro cs6. I got a nice video clip but has a baby cried in the background and very annoying. I have tried all of the sounds in Prem cs6 but didn't work. My question is, do I need to get a separate sound software download and install to be able to use it?
In the CS versions, there was some audio capability in PrPro but you needed to get a separate audio program for major work. Lessening a baby definitely qualifies as major work. That's lessening, i dont mean eliminating. Adobe's audio program is Audition. There are others "out there'. In the CC versions one just downloads Audution also.

You are not providing any system information. Such issues are most of the time driver issues where certain DLLs are not released/ unloaded from memory.

Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 classroom in a book lesson files "file format not supported" error message
Hey y'all. I have the creative Suite cloud membership and am learning Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and have the latest update. I have an iMac, version 10.8.2 and have been going through the lessons 1-8 so far from the 'Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Classroom in a book' with no problems. So far so good. Then, when I opened Lesson 9 project today, I realized that certain media was off line (see pic below-videos and maps) even though I had been able to open the project. I tried to see if it was a link issue but was unable to select the 'Link Media' option and the system did not give me the option to link media when opening a new project. The strange thing is that I am now able to open some lessons with everything working fine but when I try to open other lessons such as lesson 9 or 10 or 11 I notice media files offline after getting the "file format not supported" pop-up error message when attempting to open a project. It's random as some lessons I had opened previously now give this error message of file format not supported when they didn't in the past whilst others work. I have deleted all the lesson files from my hard drive and reinstalled them from the cd onto my hardrive but the issue persists. Any idea as to why all of a sudden Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 is giving the error message "File format not supported"??? when opening the lessons. I have not changed any preferences. I've included some screenshots though I don't know how much help they will be... Is anyone else running into this issue??? Can anyone help???
NEVERMIND. I FOUND OUT ON MY OWN WHAT THE ISSUE WAS AND IS NOW FIXED. YAY!Why were you trying to link a file in the project to the project file itself? Shouldn't it be a video file or something? Like .mov .wav .avi .mp4 and not .prproj

How does Sony Vegas Pro 12 compare to Premiere Pro CS6?
About 2 months ago, I purchased Premiere Pro CS6 retail box version from Best Buy. With everything going to the CC, I can't get upgrades unless I join the CC. This is NOT something I want to do! I would like to know if the chroma keying and image stabilization in Sony Vegas pro 12 are just as good or similar to Premiere Pro? I already read about how to transfer the product license on the Adobe website. If I decide to make the switch, I will list my Premiere Pro on Ebay. Another reason why I may want to get Vegas Pro is because I found out about the AVCHD bug in Premiere AFTER I purchased it. It has been over a year and Adobe has still not fixed the bug. I have a feeling they will never fix the bug because of the new CC vesion. I am currently about half way through the classroom in a book from Adobe and have not yet edited any of my own videos. My video camera is a Canon Vixia HF S20 and my computer is a new Dell XPS 8500 with Core i7 and 12 GB of ram. Just a bit frustrated on what to do. If I can't sell my Premiere Pro for a good enough price, I will keep it and switch to Vegas or some other program after it becomes obsolete.
You can download a fully functional demo of Sony Vegas 12 Pro. That's what I did. So far I like it and will be making the switch to Sony Vegas 12 Pro.
They also have Suite version which include HitFilm 2 Ulimate. This program is like After Effects. I haven't started playing with that yet.
Also, there is Movie Studio 12 Platinum Visual Effects Suite 2. That's a mouth full. Anyhow, it is based on Sony Vegas 12 and it comes with HitFilm 2 Express. The Express version is a stripped down version of HitFilm 2 Ulimate. The Express version is still a great program for adding effects. For some people Movie Studio 12 is all they will need,
Both version, Vegas and Movie Studio, have GPU acceleration which is really nice.
I also just picked up Corel PaintShop Pro X5 Ultimate. It sells for $69.95 and it can open and save .PSD files. So I don't have to worry about all of the .PSD files I saved in Photoshop
Right now I have CS5 and CS6. Premiere CS6 has a lot of bug, the AVCHD spanning clips, slow motion that jitters, caching problem, slower exports, etc.

Working with video and photos in Premiere Pro CS6

I am a LONG TIME Adobe Premiere 5 user. NOT CS5, Adobe Premeire 5!! Yes, from the 1990's!! Recently I went back to college and taking advantage of the educational store, I treated myself to Adobe Master Collection CS6. I LOVE IT!!!
I'm just back from holidays where I snapped loads of photos at 14Mpx and video at 720p HiDef on my camera. I now want to compile a holiday video of my photos and videos telling the story of my holiday. I always do this and in Adobe Premeire 5 I had it nailed down. This is my first big outing with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and while I'm making some good headway with it, there are so many differences that I have a few questions...
1.
My movie is being made at the resolution of my video footage, 1280 x 720. My photos are MUCH bigger then this. When I place a photo on the timeline, because it's much bigger then the video resolution I have to right click on it on the timeline and select Scale To Fit Screen or whatever the option is. This works great as the whole photo then shrinks down to fit within the video resolution. But it's a pain as I have LOADS of photos!! Is there a way to make photos default to fitting on the video resolution when I place them on the timeline? I don't want to resize them in Photoshop to fit the resolution as I plan to move and zoom into the photos as part of the video so I want to keep them at their 14Mpx size.
2.
When I place a photo and a video side by side in the timeline, why can't I place a Cross Disolve transition overlapping the two of them? The transition just overlaps the video start/end depending on where it is. If I put two photos side by side, the transition will overlap the top of them on the timeline. Haven't tried it with two videos yet.
That's it for now. Making slow but good headway. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Paul.Start by downrezzing your photos in PS to a more manageable size. If you don't need pan and scan, just use 1280x720. You can batch resize them in PS and it will make the editing experience a lot better, putting less overhead on the system and resulting in a much snappier response.
Read about handles in the Help file for transitions. You need extra material at the end on a clip and the beginning of the next clip. -
Flickering during playback in Premiere Pro (CS6)
Hello everyone.. I work in the IT department, and I am trying to assist a user with a problem they are having with Premiere Pro. Let me preface this by saying I know nothing about how to use Premiere.. I am not the user, I just install it and make sure it's there.
The problem they are having is that when they click the button to watch playback, the screens (dual display) flicker/flash/strobe, whatever you'd like to call it. As soon as you click 'stop', it stops.
I've already tried re-installing Premiere, but I might need to just completely uninstall the entire CS6 suite and reinstall it.
Here are the specs: (I don't know why the images are blurry, but you can click on them to open them and they are clear)

I've already been to AMD's website, and it says I have the current video driver. Windows is also completely up to date.
This system has dual monitors.

Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
