Premiere Pro CS6 timeline Playback stops

Hello Community,
I am having this strange problem for a while:
The Playback from any timeline stops after approx. 24 minutes from any timeline. Video freezes, Audio keeps on playing normally, but TC in Programm Windows jumps to around 30 seconds and runs from there.
W7 64 Bit
I am using a I7 3930K with 32 GB Ram
Very fast hard disks (also tried other) and PP in Version 6.05
Blackmagic Decklink SDI Output (Driver Version 9.7.1.0)
NVIDIA GTX 770 (9.18.13.3523)
The problem occurs each time at the exact same frame. If i start a minute later it stops as well a minute later.
I am not getting this, hope somebody ca help me out here...

Is it only that one sequence, or anything you play?

I've searched for similar issues, and while I found plenty of playback issues, I didn't see anything like what I'm experiencing.

I know the GPU isn't compatible with the Mercury hardware acceleration.
I've been a Premiere Pro user since version 2 and have kept current through the years.  I'm happily running CS5.5 on PC's in my home office.  I recently installed the trial version of CS6 on my Mac at work to evaluate for that environment, and I'm pulling my hair out trying to get over some basic issues.  I have no problems with Media Encoder or AE.
In Premiere using preview or program (timeline), playback stops after roughly a second...  though it varies by several frames each time.  I tested this with various video files, .wav files, stills (jpeg, psd), etc.  I even tested with black video and bars generated inside Premiere.  The problem persists with all of the above...  click play, and playback stops after about a second.  Scrubbing works great...  I've tried different playback resolutions.  I'm not using any 3rd party monitoring devices or I/O cards on this machine.
I have FCP 7 installed on the same machine and have no trouble editing and playing 1080i video all day long.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

The above suggestion worked for me briefly, but the problem keeps re-occuring.
I too am using Snow Leopard 10.6.8, NVIDIA gfx card (8800) and an ATI Radeon 5500.
Premiere played back fine in Lion and Mountain Lion, but I downgraded because I have old quicktime files and Final Cut 7 projects that i need to work with so Lion is not an option for me.
Bizarre behavior if you ask me.
    Any help on this?

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Video Playback Problem/Bug

I have been editing a video for the past few weeks, but recently, after I have been editing for a few minutes, all of a sudden my video won't play in the playback window. When I hit the play button (or the space bar) it does nothing - just sits there. All of the clips are rendered (with the green bar), but I cant see my changes because it doesn't play. I am even able to move the cursor along the timeline and it will show the video in the playback window, but it won't play back in real time. Like I said I have been using Premiere Pro CS6 for a while and havent had this problem until now. Also, when I drag a clip into the preview window, it doesn't play either (but I am able to move the cursor along the timeline). I have to shut down Premiere and open it up again, then it works for a few minutes again, and then the same problem occurs. Please help! The specs for my lap top are as follows: Macbook Pro Retina Display, 2.6 GHZ i7, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD

Do you ONLY have that single 500gig drive?
If yes, you are below specification... which requires a separate drive for video files
An EXAMPLE concerning trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the
orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do
Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct
the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with
your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another
very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more on partitions) with Windows (or Mac OS)
and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is
not slowed down by trying to do everything
Do not try to use a USB2 external drive for video editing, the USB2 file transfer speed
    is too slow
External eSata or USB3 are both fast enough for video editing... eSata is better -

  • Help! Premiere Pro runaway timeline playback with multicam and Cineform Neo clips

    Hello,
I have experienced a problem with a "runaway timeline" in Premiere Pro CS5.5 - not always, but fairly often. Once playback begins, nothing short of restarting the computer can stop it.  I don't know if this is a bug that needs fixing or something else.  I am a recent Mac / FCP7 switcher to the Adobe product line.
My machine is a Sandy Bridge i7 quad core chip on Windows 7 with 16GB of RAM.  I do not have an Nvidia card in the system yet.  I am running Premiere Pro 5.5 using a multicam timeline with Cineform Neo clips at 1080p (four camera angles).  The initial "live edit" of the multicam went well, and I am now trying to go back and tweak the exact edits.  Playing back the multicam sequence to check the program edits has resulted in three "lock ups" where nothing will stop the playback (video and audio), not the space bar, mouse, escape key, nothing.  The mouse still moves normally but none of the buttons in Premiere Pro "click".  Interestingly, I can open other programs and hit restart on the computer, but the timeline just keeps on playing.  All clips are converted to Cineform Neo at 1080p.  The computer is showing 56% of CPU being used and roughly 45% of RAM.
I don't what other info would apply - no other apps are open when this happens and none were open before this (clean boot with Premiere being the first and only program run).
If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix or avoid this, I would be very appreciative.
    Thank you in advance,
    Videoguy 16x9

    Hi Jim,
Thank you for your reply.  I like the machine, and I did try the clips without converting but the HDV and DSLR clips alongside the XDCAM clips all in one multiclip really didn't flow so well.  I also love First Light for color grading and correction (part of Cineform Neo) - the color correction is all in the metadata, so there is no slow down or drag on the system during playback.
I have an OWC 4TB RAID connected via eSata which should be plenty fast, especially on the Sandy Bridge chipset and 16GB of RAM, but the clips just didn't feel light or zippy.  Coming from a Final Cut Pro background, I'm so used to transcoding everything to ProRes (and I used to be on Adobe and then Vegas so I was used to Cineform's workflow), that going back to Cineform seemed like a good solution.  Cineform is also the format we are using as a mastering format for program materials.
It all plays very well, the four cameras in the multiclip, the trouble is that as I'm watching the playback of the mixed multiclip, it just keeps on playing.  Nothing stops it, it's very weird.  Especially since it continues to playback perfectly and I can also open other apps and work around in them (trying to unstick Premiere).  Still the timeline continues to play, perfect video and sound without skipping a beat.  I haven't let it reach the end (long form program) so I don't know how that would affect it.  I wish I knew if it was a Premiere thing, a Cineform thing or something in the cross talk.  In any case, I seem to be the only one with this weird side effect.......

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Merucry Playback on Nvidia 650M MacBook Pro??

With Apple just announcing the new super powerful Macbook Pro's with Retina display I wanted to ask the two obvious questions:
    1. Will Mercury Playback Engine use the Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 1Gb GFX processor for CUDA (384 cuda cores!) accellerated playback? (its a beat of a mobile processor so fingers crossed?!)  If so anyone from Adobe comment on how long for an update?
    2. When will Adobe provide an update to use the high Retina Display resolutions?
Exciting laptop for video editing, fingers crossed Adobe can utilise that power and resolution to the full!
Nvidia blogged about the GFX processor here: http://blogs.nvidia.com/2012/06/new-apple-macbook-pros-feature-kepler-class-geforce-gpus/
    Cheers

I think I'd be accused of being 'aggressive' if Adobe had this GPU sprung upon them.  However this will not be the case.  The processor has been around for a while, it's inclusion was rumoured many weeks if not months ago, and Apple will surely have been in discussions with Adobe about the inclusion of the processor (just like they were about the Retina display as Photoshop was shown at the WWDC yesterday and Apple said Adobe are already working on an update to utilise the retina display). Yes there will be a lead time, but I'm sure Adobe knew way before yesterday!
I'm merely asking the question, and for those editors looking to upgrade laptops it would be useful to know whether Adobe plan to include this GPU in it's approved list.  This is Apple's most powerful laptop ever (and a huge resource for pro video editors around the world) and it would be rather crazy for Adobe to ignore the potential of this machine, especially in their efforts to tempt FCP switchers over to Adobe Premiere CS6 (very evidently a target market).  So an early announcement can only help.  I don't think that's too unrealistic!
Make a feature request if you want this GPU to be supported for the Mercury Playback Engine: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
Of course, we cannot talk about our future plans, but you can check out what we have done in the past regarding certifying new GPUs. That may give you some clue about our intentions.

  • Premiere pro CS6 will not stop indexing and conforming

I am working on several projects with ease. But a project gives me problems. I have already imported several types of files and edit individual sequences.
Now I add more recordings but premiere does not stop indexing these files. If I want to watch any clip in the source player starts premiere program to index the selected clip and the last imported files again. How to fix this?

  • Premiere Pro CS6 no playback, Yosemite

Hi, I'm running CS6 on Yosemite with a GTX 770, and I can not playback any video files. I got cuda activated in the list, and the mecury enginine ist working. Rendering previews and media is really fast. Also I can scrub through the media, and move frame by frame, but normal playback and also the classic "j" "k" "l" keys do not work. Any solutions? Do I need to activate OpenCL? How can that be done? Thanks

    Hi,
Do you mean that the Play / Pause button doesn't work? Are you able to see the video in the source and program monitors properly and scrub through it? Do you hear audio while playing back?
You can switch to OpenCL or software only under File > Project settings > General and see if that helps.
Playback issues can be caused be connecting external audio devices sometimes. Have you connected any?
    Thanks,
    Rameez

  • Premiere Pro CS6 still much faster than Premiere Pro CC

I am currently editing videos that were captured using screen recording software. The files have subsequently been converted to .WMV clips with a data rate of exactly 4.4 MB/sec (that's Megabytes/second). This data rate includes both video and audio.
There is no problem editing these clips in Premiere Pro CS6. Playback and scrubbing are fine at any quality setting and at any magnification size. Unfortunately, this is not the case with Premier Pro CC2014. This "new" version of Premier Pro chokes to death with attempting to play back or scrub the exact same clips. Even at 1/4 resolution, CC2014 struggles along. I can improve things a bit by turning off CUDA acceleration (which makes even less sense to me), however, CC2014 just can't do what CS6 does.
I introduced this issue a few months ago, but it obviously has not been resolved by Adobe. They are bringing new feature into CC2014 all the time, but I'd much rather they focus on getting the software to work properly, like CS6 does.

Totally agree!  C'mon on Adobe...let's fix the performance and the memory leakage!

  • Playback has frozen in Premiere Pro CS6, it started when I added some after effects compositions to

Playback has frozen in Premiere Pro CS6.  I am running a 1080p timeline and it appeared to start when I added some after effects renders to my timeline.  The playback head still runs through the timeline and audio plays normally but the video completely stops and cannot be viewed in real time.
I have plenty of memory and a very good graphics card running 64Bit Windows 7.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 playback freezes, regenerates .pek and .cfa files

When I try to watch something in a sequence, the Program Monitor freezes. The playhead moves in the timeline as usual and the audio plays just fine, but the visual freezes. Sometimes it stops a few seconds after I start playing and sometimes the video never plays at all. When I stop playback, it remains frozen for a while, then resets to the frame the playhead is on.
As I checked different options, I discovered Premiere is regenerating both the .pek and .cfa files every time I open it, even though all of my projects have already conformed. I have it set to store the media files with the project, so I know the preview files have not moved or been deleted. I work on this setup 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and nothing changed since I was in yesterday. It was working fine when I shut it down last night, no one could have logged in while I was gone, and this morning it doesn't work. No updates were installed, no files were moved, no drives switched.
I have searched the internet for help, but all of the forums I've found are at least two months old and recommend installing the 6.0.3 update. I did run updates for all my Adobe software, and it didn't help. I also deleted and re-rendered my peak and cfa files.
One six-month-old forum said that Premiere CS6 cannot playback long AVCHD .m2ts files. Previously I had no problem working with .m2ts files 35 minutes and shorter, or with .mp4 files up to 75 minutes long. The video I'm currently working with is about 75 minutes long. And again, it was working fine yesterday.
Further investigation revealed that playback does not freeze when I import a selection from the Source Monitor (vs. importing from the Bin and trimming in the Timeline) and do not layer clips or apply effects.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.
    Media Spec:
    File type: AVCHD Video
    Resolution: 1920x1080 (1080p), 29 fps
Imported from camera hard drive using PlayMemories Home
    Computer Spec:
    Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
    Windows 7, 64-bit Service Pack 1
Graphics card is Quadro 5000, driver 276.19
OS/boot drive is a solid state 250gig, and files running off a 2TB local hard drive

    I've tried several more things.
The playback does not freeze if I have only one clip in the timeline.
If I have clips on two or more video tracks, it starts freezing.
Once I clear it down to one video track, it takes a couple of seconds (up to 30) to start playing normally again.
Sometimes I can play two tracks for several minutes before it freezes. Sometimes it freezes immediately.
When I open Premiere, I get the "Media Pending" screen for way longer than usual.
I have rebuilt the peak and cfa files, no difference. GPU accelerator is enabled. The latest Adobe updates are installed.
I see a few other forums with similar problems but no solution.
No settings, file formats, or file locations have changed since Monday (the last time CS6 was working properly). After a lot of digging around I found that a Windows Defender Definition update was installed the morning of the day PP started freaking out. I can't get rid of this update.
I edit two or more hours of footage per day. They are lectures, so they are recorded in 1-3 hour chunks. I use two videos simultaneously--one with the professor's powerpoint presentation, and one of the professor. I keyframe the PPT video into the corner, overlaid over the lecturer. I did this for years without problem in CS5.5 and for two months without problem on my current setup.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Playback Unusable-PLAYBACK ISSUES

    Hello,
I've just downloaded the Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Trial, but whenever I put a clip in the sequence timeline, the playback stops after a second or so. I filmed my screen to show the problem (computer specs at the end of the video). Is it because the sequence settings do not match the clip's properties? I'm also new to Adobe Premiere.

  • 1 Second Playback Only in Premiere Pro CS6

I can't get video to play back for more than a second in Premiere Pro CS6. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? The files are from Canon DSLRs (T2i and 5D Mark III). These are just Quicktime files that play fine otherwise, and Adobe claims that DSLR files are natively supported in CS6. These files play fine in Final Cut Pro 7 and X, by the way. My MacBook Pro computer is 64bit compatible. This is stopping me from editing entirely. Solutions?

Hello: I'm getting an audio error message on playback and P Pro CS6 won't stop playback. Have to force quit.

That screenshot will help us figure out what's going wrong, but I won't have any news until at least July 8 because our offices are shut down next week. In the meantime, two suggestions:
Download CC and see if this crash occurs in the new version.
Google cpp-99 premiere pro audio prefetch. I got several hits, but not dig into them to see if any had a solution or workaround.

  • "Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 has stopped working" but was working fine a week ago...

On my desktop (Dell XPS 8300), I keep getting the error message "Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 has stopped working" when openng up a previously created project or trying to create a new one in Premiere Pro CS6.
On my laptop (MS Surface Pro 2), I can load projects and edit them, but I cannot export media.  When I try, it just sits there and does nothing.  I've also tried sending it to Media Encoder, but that doesn't help either.  Sometimes, it crashes too.
I'm running Windows 8.1 on both with the latest updates installed.
Oddly, this started roughly around the same time on both computers.
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, but that didn't help.
I've run the Windows troubleshooter and that didn't help either.
I've tried running as an administrator, and running the program in compatibility mode for Windows 8, 7 and Vista - that doesn't solve the issue either.
At this point, I can't do any work and am even considering paying for CC even though I just dropped $700 on CS6 last year, but I'm wondering if that would even solve the issue, or if the CC version would also not work...

    >started roughly around the same time on both computers
Most likely cause is a Windows update that changed "something" about the video system
Check the vendor site (NOT Windows update) for a newer video driver
