Premiere Pro Display assumptions (Mac)

Hi, I'm new to video and Premiere Pro.  I'm looking at the way Premiere Pro displays my video and I have a hunch it thinks my display is calibrated to a gamma of 1.8  Back in the early days that was considered the mac standard but for some years now we've been using 2.2.  I can't see any controls in Premiere Pro to control this, can anyone shed any light on this?
I've been running a color-managed photography workflow for many years based on photoshop, I know video is a completely different beast, just trying to nail down the basics here and get up to speed.  Sorry if I'm overlooking something obvious.
Thanks,
Dave

All the other ways I can view them (QuickTime, iMovie etc) they look normal.
Dave,
This could well be due to a difference in how the players are either set, or in the difference between their display and that of PrPro.
I would guess that you do not have a calibrated (Video) monitor being fed out via FW. Is that correct?
As a test, you might want to do some test footage, and then author to DVD-Video, playing it on your normal set-top player. Provided that the TV, attached to it, has been reasoably well adjusted, you might get an idea whether iMove and QT are closer to the correct gamma. In most video drivers, on can establish different Presets. Since you have a calibrated print workflow, you will want to keep that, but may have to switch your Custom Preset for Video work. My nVidia allows for many Custom Presets and on-the-fly switching, depending on what I am editing - still in PS, or Video.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • I work with Premiere Pro on a mac and export quicktime movies to be played on pc's or mac's

I work with Premiere Pro on a mac and export quicktime movies to be played on pc's or mac's. When I export a qt from Premiere with audio it will not play on a pc only a mac. After extensive research I have narrowed down the problem to this: if you use the inspector in quicktime it looks like this
    DV, 720 x 480 (640 x 480), Millions
    16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
I have to run it thru AE to make it look like this....then it plays
    DV, 720 x 480 (640 x 480), Millions
16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
SOOOO the problem is the Little/Big Endian. I googled that and it looks like a file/bit structure....anyone know how/why to change it in Premiere? Because everytime I make a movie in Prem I have to drag the sequence into AE and render it there so the sounds works.....
    thanks

    Two questions:
    1. What CODEC are you choosing when exporting on the Mac?
    2. Do you have any Blackmagic hardware/software installed?
    Cheers

  • Playback Lag in Premiere Pro CS6 for Mac

I'm editing a project in Premiere Pro CS6 for Mac, and the playback is really laggy. Its fine if you're viewing one long clip, but it gets really laggy when it switches between clips. The sound will play, but the playback screen will be frozen on the last frame from the previous clip. I use the latest thin model of the iMac. Can anybody help me?

    >Premiere Pro CS6 with the 6.0.0 update
Is there a specific reason you have not applied the bug fix updates?
All Adobe updates start here and select product, read to see if you need to install
updates in number order, or if the updates are cumulative for the individual product
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
Also, only having one hard drive means your computer is having to "struggle" with file operations
An EXAMPLE concerning trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the
orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do
Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct
the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with
your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another
very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more on partitions) with Windows (or Mac OS)
and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is
not slowed down by trying to do everything
External eSata or USB3 are both fast enough for video editing... eSata is better -
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1117813
Do not try to use USB2 for video editing, it is too slow

  • Canon 300 footage crashing Premiere PRO 6 on Mac PRO

As stated above... C300 footage crashes Premiere Pro when using on my Mac Pro. It happens when you scrub through the footage.  I have done plenty of searches and everyone with a Mac Pro seems to be having the same problem. The footage also has glitches in the frames when it plays and renders.  The only solution I have found is to transcode the footage to something else, which kind of defeats the purpose of using Premiere Pro 6 in the first place.  I know this is a problem specific to the Mac Pro because my Macbook Pro does not have this issue when dealing with C300 footage.  Does anyone know of any actual solution to this other than transcoding all the footage?

    Hello,
Because you've said you already "re-downloading":
    1. Maybe you have to activate/deactivate, so please have a look there:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html
2, Sometimes, we know in the meantime, the "opm.db file" is the culprit. In this case you should delete it.
    3. Did you already try "uninstalling and re-installing"?
Be careful with (de)installing aso. by (de)installing by your own resources. As much as I regret it and as strange as it may seem I fear it's a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.
Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)
I quote: Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool helps resolve installation problems for Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Creative Suite (CS3-CS6) applications. The tool removes installation records for prerelease installations of Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications. It does not affect existing installations of previous versions of Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications.
Please use: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html   and follow the prescribed sequence of operations

  • USB Mic not working in Premiere Pro CS6 for Mac

So I've been editing in Premiere Pro CS6 on a mac for 6 months now.  I have to do a temp VO for a project and I thought I'd try the Narration feature in the mixer.  For some reason my USB mic doesn't show up in the Audio Hardware so I can't pick it.  The same mic shows up in the Mac Audio Settings and even shows up in Audition.  I've been having to use Audition but was curious to see if anyone out there has gotten a USB mic to work in Premiere Pro on a Mac.  Would be a really cool feature if it worked.
    Greg Jones
    D7,Inc.

Some USB mics work fine, but many do not. It can depend on the exact mic, or might require a different ASIO driver (maybe something like ASIO4All?), or different ASIO setting, to work.
    Good luck,

How can I down a Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 for mac on a computer with windows7 system?
Explanations with pics will be better.
    Thanks.

Not sure what you are asking. A download is a download. what you do with the file afterwards is entirely up to you. If you mean to install Mac software on Win, then no, this can't be done. Furthermore you also would have to have a proper Win serial.

  • I want to open a project from premiere pro on my mac

I want to open a project from premiere pro on my mac,the project was edited on a different mac originally.
Some of the sound from the clips are missing and all the clips are there but when go to a clip in the timeline and press enter it is just black.
    Please help!!!!!!
P.SIt also askes for RENDERED MFX FILES????

You may have to go to the original computer and go to the project manager which will let you gather all media to a single folder. Then take that folder to a new computer and edit away.
As far as black clips. If the media IS located but it shows up black during playback this might mean the file is damaged. This happened to me yesterday and when I opened the file outside of premiere it would not play at all.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Trial Mac crashes on launch

I installed Master Collection CS6 on my Mac Pro tower 3,1 quad core, 16 GBs RAM.  I set up a new video project in Premiere and all was going fine, loaded all assets, etc ... Next I was attempting to set up audio hardware for recording a narriation on a track.  I was using a USB VoIP device.  I could not arm a track for recording, so I figured audio hardware needed set up.  My VoIP was already selected in Preferences>Audio Hardware once inspected, but I still could not arm a track.  So, I tried Utilities>Midi Set Up>Aggregate Audio Devices to add my headset to Premiere Pro.  Headset was in list but I could not add anything to premiere.  Everything I checked automatically unchecked once selected.
Back to square one.  So I unhooked my headset, went to Preferences>Audio Hardware and attempted to select a Built-in I/O device. Then, Premiere just crashed.
Everytime I try to open premiere it crashes.  I rebooted, tried a different project, etc .... nothing!
    So ... h e l p !

You are right , to use the trial you do not need the serial number however it is a prompt screen that comes up at the time of launch so that you can serialize the software and turn it to full version also it let you know the number of days left for the trial.
In your case it seems to be different , BTW what is your OS  ? Premiere Pro CS6 will only work in 64 bit OS actually, it will get install on only 64 bit OS so that might be the reason you have only Encore present not Premiere Pro.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 for Mac timeline encoder application options

What options (Procoder-like) do I have for Mac Premiere Pro CS3 timeline encoding? Appreciate any application suggestions.

I understand that you get more options on the Win Platform. If your
looking for a specific option that you intend to use alot, then you will
certainly want to factor that in when you make your OS choice.
But just having lots of options in itself is not, in itself, a good
reason to base your choice on. The Mac platforms tend to be more
quicktime based, but your encoding options are varied allowing you to
create delivery formats for a range of end users, from tiny Ipod size
video to lossless formats that most any other platform will handle with
no difficulty. Of course you have the standard DVD export routines, and
you also have flash video export routines.
For import concerns, I have found a program called Visual Hub to be
quite useful in conversions. I've found it to be able to quickly convert
most everything I throw it at, specifically those xvid and divx file
that tend to be problematic for NLE's on both platforms.

  • Poor performance of Premiere Pro on 2013 Mac Pro

A month ago I bought a 2013 Mac Pro mostly for running Premiere Pro CC. The configuration is 6 cores @ 3.5 GHz, 64 GB RAM, 2 x D700 graphics, 1 TB internal SSD. It runs OS X Mavericks 10.9.4.
I tried Premiere Pro CC today for the first time. The input--entirely stored on the internal SSD; no external disk was even connected--was about 100 clips shot as AVCHD (1080p25 PAL) at 24 Mbps.
I edited this in Premiere Pro and added small adjustments (mostly changes of levels) in about 20 clips. The rest had no adjustments. There were no transitions applied. For the most part, it just had to copy the trimmed input clips to the output.
I queued this for Adobe Media Encoder CC at H.264, 1080p25, @ 24 Mbps VBR 2 pass. Audio was 192 kbps, 48 kHZ,stereo. The output was written to the internal SSD.
While encoding, the CPU was running 50-70% idle (!!!) so it was using only 2-3 cores and half the memory (32GB) was unused. It certainly wasn't trying very hard. No other programs except Premiere, AME, and the activity monitor were open during encoding and I was just sitting there watching it lumber along.
The time to encode the timeline of 9:47 was 21:28. That is 2.2x real time. My 4-year-old Windows machine using CS6 could do that. What's wrong? Should Premiere Pro be this slow on hardware this fast? Is there some secret box "Use all the cores and all allowed memory" that I have to check (I set the preferences to allow Adobe to use 52 GB). Does Premiere get tired in the evenings? The internal SSD runs at 900 MB/s and there was no transcoding to do. What was going on?
This is my first test of Premiere and it is kind of disappointing. Did I just waste 6500 euros on the Mac Pro or am I using the wrong settings. Any advice is welcome.
    Thanks.

Yes, should be great if someone put some light in all this performance thing in the new mac pro, I just did a test, 3 video tracks with 4K Red footage, 50% of opacity each one and I just play the 2 min sequence, and Premiere started to drop frames at half resolution playback and when I changed to full resolution playback the sequence was unplayable, I mean, they sold this MacPro/Premiere workflow as the way to edit 4K without compromises and now we are not capable to deliver jobs because the poor performance... and I'm not talking now about the constant crashes and freezes, I'm talking about that we can't play just 3 tracks without any effect.
Would be great if someone put some light on this, maybe we are blaming adobe and it's apple's fault and we should go to the apple store to return the machine... I did test on the Mac and looks OK, I'm more than confuse about this...

  • How to import wmv video tracks in Premiere Pro CC on mac?

    Hi,
Is there a way to import wmv video files in premiere without converting them before?
I'm aware, that exporting is another topic, i'm only intrested in importing.
I only found the information, that AME is able to import WMVs after installing Windows Media Player for Mac (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4031104), but is this also possible in the same way for Premiere Pro?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

Were you ever able to find a solution for this? I am working on a project that has some .WMV files and trying to import them in Premiere Pro CC on a Mac. Thanks!

  • Premiere Pro CC2014 on Mac Pro 2013 using Bootcamp.  Good idea?

I'm thinking of getting a Mac Pro (late 2013 'trashcan' model with 6 core processor) due to it's portability vs a regular desktop and due to it's over original purchase price resale value if re-sold in Brazil.  Since the Mac version of Premiere seems to be buggier than the Windows version, based on forum discussions I've read, and since I much prefer Windows vs OSX, can anyone with experience running the latest version of Premiere Pro on a MacPro through Bootcamp chip in with their thoughts?  Does it work just as well as running Premiere CC2014 on a native Windows desktop?  Are there any issues I should be aware of?  Problems with connecting devices through Thunderbolt ports with Bootcamp?
    Thanks for any input!!!
BTW, I don't want this thread to turn into a Windows vs OSX debate, unless directly related to the performance/stability of Premiere Pro.  Thanks.

    mojo,
Do you have QuickTime and the associated codecs installed in your PC?
    Thanks,

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 Mac - Major Metadata Problems

    Hi...
I am having major problems with the Metadata system in Premiere Pro CS5.5
I have created a custom scheme and added the following property "Key" and set it to have a boolean value (Check Mark)
My Metadata display correctly displays the "Key" property and I can check it. Just like expected.
I will now apply it to the clip(s) in need of that meta property.
In the project column the property is also show correctly...
All good so far but now comes the two major problems
    PROBLEM 1
    1) I have about 300 clips in the project panel
    2) If I click the column header I can sort accordingly
    3) Clicking name or Labels will immediately sort correctly. 1 Second tops.
    4) If I click the column header of my custom propert "Key" I get the SWOD and it takes about 120 seconds for Premiere to sort adhering to the Key Column.
2 minutes for that is a VERY long time compared to sorting by name...
Could this be a bug or am I doing something wrong...
    PROBLEM 2
In the project panel's search field I will enter "Key" but nothing will appear... At least that is what I thought.
It took more than ONE HOUR for Premiere's search results to be able to identify that a clip had gotten that property checked. (Clicking the Clip immediately reflects that it has been checked)
I even timed it. Ckecked the Key property for 4 new clips which did not have the meta applied to them.
In the search field I entered 'Key" but only the clip which had had the Key meta tagged since 1 hour would appear.
I waited another hour and now those very 4 clips also appear in the search field. The same goes for the "Good" meta boolean which is NOT a custom field.
I saved the project in between quit Premiere and re-launched but THAT did NOT help PPRO find that Property in the search field.
As I said, it takes about 1 hour for Premiere to be able to included those metadata in the search results.
Funny thing is, if I enter 'true' which is the boolean text-string for a checked property the results appear immediately. But there is NOT much use in having ALL boolean fields appear that are checked.
I welcome that adobe implemented metadata across their apps but ELEGANT is something entirely different.
Could anyone shed some light on this ?
    Thanks
