Premiere Pro, Edit Original ... How? Metadata?

Greetings!
I've been given a project that's a mess in After Effects. Think of it as a Power Point slide show, but done in After Effects. I decided to export all of the slides as MOVs and edit them in Premiere. I love the "Edit Original" feature as I can return to After Effects to make changes. However, these comps are named very complex (e.g. 0025_P32_Something something) and I'd love to rename the Clips, Files and Comps to something very simple (e.g. Something v1). I consolidated my Premier Project and renamed all of my clips so the filenames are now simplified, and the "Edit Original" still links to my After Effects project. Yay! I decided to save my After Effects project as V2 (version 2) so I can start renaming the comps and organizing both projects better. My dilemma is when I "Edit Original" it loads my V1 After Effects project instead of V2.
Where is the metadata saved in my Premiere project clips? I know there is something that says, "reference this After Effects project and comp" somewhere. I'd love to edit the metadata and reference my V2 After Effects Project.
Thoughts?

I guess that I am saying that I now think SG is possibly viable as a decent (useable) workflow instead of Resolve ( which I love BTW).
Resolve may have a tad more "power" but the workflow is a little more involved than what SG and Premiere is now offering.
I am revisting various projects and seeing what SG will handle.
Maybe you will try (ttest) with a speed remapped project and let us know what happens.
FWIW: I would probably have remmaped after cc and grade in Resolve  or used a DI.

Check to see if your system meets the minimum requirements. Other have reported that if it doesn't, then PPRO will not show in the list.

  • Will the new premiere pro edit and save changes to avchd losslessly?

    Hi,
I want to buy a new premiere elements to replace my old one (vrsn 3), can I upgrade it still or is it too old? Or should I still stick to Premiere elements?
Also, will the new premiere pro edit and save changes to avchd files from Panasonic and Canon without losing any quality?
I came across 'provides native support for avchd'; what does it mean? Does it mean that I can edit and save avchd files with out losing quality?
    Thanks,

  • Why does Adobe Premiere Pro modify original footage/asset files (e.g. mov)? (CS6)

    Background:
A colleague had given me a large 33Gb .mov for use in a project, I put this file on a backup drive.
I made an identical copy of this 33Gb .mov file and placed it in a folder that I'd use to work on a Premiere Pro Project.
I ran Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and dragged in the 33Gb .mov file into the Sequence (imported it)
Premiere Pro CS6 started conforming the file.
After it had finished, I noticed that it's Modified Date was just now i.e different to the Modified Date on the original copy of the file on the backup drive (see step 1)
I ran a BeyondCompare check between the .mov file on the backup drive (see step 1) and the one that the Premiere Pro project was using (step 2, 3) and Beyond Compare reported they were different.
I had initially thought it was unrelated file corruption of some kind, but I have checked this several times and got the same outcome, so it's definitely Premiere Pro deliberately modifying the file.
So I am puzzled: these are supposed to be the same file.
Why would there be a need for Adobe Premiere Pro to modify the footage?
What does it do to the file?
Would it not be better to create a separate file if necessary?
I can accept this if that's how it works and it's good to know that it was Premiere Pro deliberately modifying the files and not corruption (so my hardware ought to be healthy). But it makes more sense to me if Premiere Pro made separate modified copies for its own use. Modifying the file as it does hinders my process for checking the integrity of backups; if the original asset footage files were the same as earlier copies then it would be easy to know that the backups are OK.
    Thoughts?

Definitive Answer (I believe): It's all about this setting, "Write XMP ID To Files On Import" - which confirms that Adobe Premiere Pro is deliberately modifying the .mov file: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/preferences.html#WSE3BD4A43-7022-4fe6-97F5-95313 935347B
These posts give some background as to why having this setting enabled would be beneficial: one benefit being to be able to skip conforming files by matching the conformed file with the original using the embedded XMP tag :-

  • Sizing of still images for use in Premiere Pro editing.

I use Premiere Pro 5.5. I use format: AVCHD 1080i25(50i) Anamorphic for my editing (I have a Canon Legria Camera). My current stills are resized to 800x 600. When I insert in to the sequence and play it, they fall outside the safety margins. I read the Adobe help notes on this topic and resized (if memory serves 32000x32000 was mentioned) This didn't work. I also tried 2200x 1200 but this still fell out of the safety margin. Even toggling the still in the timeline didn't work. Any advice on sizing? Many thanks

I agree with Ann. This ARTICLE goes into more detail on Scaling Still Images, and shows how to Automate to Batch w/ Actions in Photoshop, and also in Photoshop Elements. One can do an entire folder full of images in but moments.
Note: the article was done, when SD was the common Project, i.e. before HD gained popularity. Disregard the Frame Sizes in the early parts, as those pixel x pixel dimensions are for SD. Discussions on HD Projects follows pretty closely, as will some discussion by Todd Kopriva, on how things changed in PrPro, as of CS 5.
    Good luck,

  • Need Laptop Recommendation - best for Adobe Premiere Pro editing

I am in the process of looking for a new laptop and need recommendations based on how I will use the laptop.  I produce video and mainly use the following programs: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro CS2, Adobe Encore DVD.  I also use other photo editing software such as AutoFX PGE7.0.
I currently have an HP Pavilion which is about 5 years old.  This desktop has the following specs:
    HP Pavilion PU131AV / a1050y, Windows XP MCE, SP3 32bit, Nvidia GeForce 6600, Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 3.20 GHz, 2GB of RAM
I believe that with a new laptop, I could create my videos more efficiently.  If you have any input as to what I need in a laptop for my specific purposes, please let me know.
    Thanks so much,
    Angela

    Harm,
Thank you for your response.  I have yet to buy the new computer but will be doing so in the next couple of days.  I read the links you provided, and another thread which discussed the performance of a laptop vs a desktop.  I have changed my mind and will be purchasing a desktop.  I need advice concerning this purchase, but will start a new discussion to do so.
    Thanks so much,
    Angela

  • Premiere Pro editing training and membership resources

I am involved in both photography editing and video editing.  On the photo side I have received a lot of benefit over the years from a NAPP membership which provides good online resources and webinars.  There are also several photography-based hardware and software companies that provide a stream of webinars that you can attend to expand your knowledge and typically use Photoshop as the base program.  Usually this involves an artist describing how THEY utilize the tools for a desired result which is a little different than a "how to".
Especially as new versions of products come out I always find this helpful and I like learning new tweaks!
Of course I am aware of the webinars Adobe has online including these forums. They are both a great help for both photoshop and premiere pro.  And the webinars are good for basic "here's how you do it" short features or new product introductions.
But are there similar membership opportunities on the video side for editing or perhaps third party webinars in addition to what is presented here?  I would be looking for intermediate to advanced material.
    Thanks,

  • I need help with audio in my Premiere Pro edit

I recently recorded a gameplay with a song track in it. In the beginning of my video, i did a voiceover explaining what the video was going to be about. When im talking, i want to lower the song, then raise the volume when im done talking. How can i do this? If i need to be more specific let me know. Thanks!

OK, assuming that the gameplay audio with the song is on audio track one and the voiceover is on audio track two.
All you have to do is to keyframe track one to lower the volume while you are talking and raise it bak to normal when you finish speaking. It is pretty simple.

  • My webcam turns on when using Premiere Pro CC. How do I make this stop?

Got a weird one here folks...
It seems as though my webcam (Logitech C110) is turning itself on whenever I am using Premiere Pro CC.
When any window within Premiere is selected the green light besides the lens turns on...when I click "out of" Premiere...it goes off.

What's the bad part? Multiple drives or RAID'ing them?
The bad part that Jim refers to is RAID 0-ing them: If only one of those drives goes bad, all of the data on both or all of the drives in that volume get permanently and irrecoverably lost (unless one wants to spend tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars per disk just for professional data recovery).
On the other hand, the only major disadvantage of multiple smaller drives is that they tend to cost more money overall than one larger drive. What's more, some of the smaller-capacity drives are still of older platter layout designs that are significantly slower in sequential speed than most of the larger-capacity drives (and even those that spin at only 5400 RPM instead of 7200 RPM).

  • Best Laptop For Premiere Pro Editing?

I've used my Sony Vaio for over 4 years, it's getting a little long in the tooth.  Does anyone have a preference or aversion to certain brands of laptops?  At this particular moment, I'm leaning towards a Dell...primarily because it allows for a second hard drive and has plenty of horsepower.   A second HD apparently is no longert an option with Sony.  Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks to all for your constructive input!
I elected for the Sager NP8120.  I have three 500 gig 7200RPM  hard drives, two of which are configured for RAID 0.  I suppose the driving factors were the number of hard drives and video card.  I've fully invested in the Adobe CS5 Master Collection, so it made sense to maximize the capabilities.
Now for the hard part...putting everything to work

  • Premiere Pro CS3 - How to Save a Final Project to Make Changes to Afterwards

OK, I just registered to the forum and this is my first post/question.
I'm fairly new to Premiere Pro editing
, and I wondered if there was a way to save the whole edited project/sequence to an external drive in case the client wanted changes to the project after they had viewed it.
I edit mostly weddings, so the projects are anywhere from 1hr 30m to 1hr 50m. I've watched all the lynda.com tutorials on Premiere, and I know about saving the final project as an ISO image file or as DVD folder, etc.
Also, I thought I remembered hearing something about being able to 'delete' the footage that wasn't used in the project too, and just saving the edited project somehow? I just thought I'd ask before I go ahead and delete all the footage that pertains to this edit. I've made an ISO file, but it doesn't look like Premiere will load it; nor will it load the video_ts files/folder.
    Anyway, so my questions are:
    1. Is there a way to load an ISO file to make editing changes?
    2. If not, then how could I save the whole project/sequence in order to load it back into Premiere to make any changes to the original edit?
    3. Does anyone here use Premiere for wedding edits? And if so, how do you 'save' projects for the longterm, in case you wanted to make changes to it?
    4. Once you have an ISO image file saved, how do you burn it through Encore? Or am I forced to use the Roxio Creator program?
I guess that's it for now. I'm sure there are many more questions that I need answered, but I'll save them for later. :-)
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!

I do a LOT of weddings. Here's the process I've come up with over the years.
First, make a window dub of the whole thing. Sit down in front of a properly calibrated TV and home theater system and watch it from beginning to end. Make notes on what needs correction (here's where the visible timecode comes in handy) - music selections, audio levels, clips to be trimmed, color corrections, misspellings, etc.
    Then, make those changes.
Next, author the final DVD for client review. Send that out with appropriate paperwork for a signed approval. Never delete/archive a project without client approval. Now, because some clients would take literally months to approve a project, I instituted a time limit of three weeks. After that, any project is considered approved and may be archived. I make this very clear, with the deadline in writing, when I send out the review sample.
If the video comes back for changes, things are still in place and I just make the requested changes, sending out another review copy with a two week limit this time. When an approval comes back or if a time limit passes, I finish up the project.
I make any remaining client copies, plus one copy of the DVD to go on a shelf. I also make an ISO for storage on an internal hard drive, to be moved later to an external hard drive at the end of every year. This gives me two master copies of the finished DVD.
I then save the project file, music and other audio selections, pictures and graphics to a CD (DVD if more space is needed, but this is rare). I make two copies in case one goes bad, and file them by groom's last name in a small CD file case. The previews and conformed files can always be rebuilt, so there's no need to save them. The actual media can be recaptured from tape, so they just get put on a shelf.
