Premiere pro hangs on waving a mouse over a clip thumbnail

This problem has been going on for months. I cannot keep taking enforced 5 minute breaks.
Premiere hangs when waving a mouse over a thumbnail in a bin. The entire machine becomes unresponsive for up to five minutes. Hover Scrub is not switched on. The hang is codec independent. Happens on DPX files, Cineform, Pro Res and any other codec encoded clips.
Win 7, Premiere CC 2014 8.2.0 (65) Caravan. Dual Xeon machine, fast raid 48GB RAM, 4 GTX Titans. This machine is not short of horsepower and it runs Resolve flawlessly.
I have already uninstalled/reinstalled, deleted preferences and cache and all the other things that are suggested in the FAQ. I have also set Premiere to only use 1 of my GTX Titans (out of 4).
Wave a mouse over a clip thumbnail and the machine becomes very unresponsive. The mouse movements become jerky. Premiere windows all go white, then come back again. Task Manager shows over 90% System Idle, CPU usage as low as 3%. It's as if Premiere is waiting for something. Eventually I get control of the machine back and can continue unless I want to select another clip from a bin. Then I have another five minute wait, even if I click the same clip that I clicked on before. This is not increasing productivity.
I know there are thousands of people suffering from similar issues to this, either on PC or Mac. I don't even get a reply on Premiere's support 'chat' (case number 0186356023)
Adobe, what is going on?

Hi Kevin,
Thanks so much for your reply! I've reset the preferences in the past and did so again after your suggestion, but no luck. I even went into the AppData folder to remove the preferences sub-folder altogether. It still hangs and acts as "Not responding" for several minutes before startup.
I wonder if there's any connection between this issue and a second issue I'm having with CC not being able to play ProRes files. http://forums.adobe.com/message/5845690#5845690
In any case, I uninstalled every Adobe Product on my machine, ran the Adobe cleaner successfully, then re-installed Premiere Pro CC. Unfortunately, nothing seems to have changed.

  • Why is Premiere Pro telling me it will take over 24 hours to export a 55-second clip with no audio or effects?

Why is Premiere Pro telling me it will take over 24 hours to export a 55-second clip with no audio or effects? It's never done this before, but this is driving me nuts. I'm almost finished with this project, I can't have this kind of stuff happening now.

Forgive me. I'm just stressing hardcore at the moment.
    Specs:
    OS X 10.9.4
    2.8 GHz intel
    Premiere 5.5
exporting cell phone video which has been treated with effects and layered with other clips from cell phone video, then nested as one single video clip, now trying to export as H.264 (DV 24fps)
Full disclosure: I am an amateur so if you need more info just tell me and I'll produce it if I can. I should note though, I've done this before with no problem. However the settings may have been different (still getting the hang of the whole 'settings' thing, to be honest). It's very possible that the problem in this case is the operator, in other words.

  • How to fix Premiere Pro hanging up on Exporter/Importer Quick Time host

I have been working with Premiere Pro 5 in Creative Suite for a couple of years now with no problems.  A month ago, however, I ran into problems with my computer overheating when I was exporting a file.  Ever since then my Premiere Pro hangs up for a very long time when trying to load.  It hangs up on Exporter QuickTime host.prm and then on Importer QuickTime host.  I could handle the 7 1/2 minute start time, but the problem is that I can't work on projects that have .mov files now:  Premiere won't read them.    I uninstalled both QuickTime and Premiere, and then reinstalled them but to no avail.  I searched the forum but did not find a similar post.

I'm a new user and learning, I bought and installed Premiere Pro cs6.  I got a nice video clip but has a baby cried in the background and very annoying.  I have tried all of the sounds in Prem cs6 but didn't work. My question is, do I need to get a separate sound software download and install to be able to use it?

In the CS versions, there was some audio capability in PrPro but you needed to get a separate audio program for major work. Lessening a baby definitely qualifies as major work. That's lessening, i dont mean eliminating. Adobe's audio program is Audition. There are others "out there'. In the CC versions one just downloads Audution also.

  • Ever since I updated to the latest version of Premiere Pro my video is taking FOREVER (over 20 hours) to export.

the video is only 20 minutes long. I've exported longer videos in less than 2 hours before so I have no idea what the issue is. The first time I tried to export this same video it started at saying remaining time was around 8 hours, went all the way down and finally finished and then said it there was an error in the export after 8 hours and the exported video wasn't there. So I decided to try the exporting process again, and last night before bed it said about 8 hours to export again. I just woke up and now it's still not finished (over 8 hours later) and NOW the remaining time is over 20 hours!!!! Does anyone else have these issues?

  • Premiere Pro hangs/crashes when queuing to AME

We make a daily news show using Premiere Pro and have hit a wall while trying to queue exports to AME. We had this same issue with PP 2013, but the upgrade to PP 2014 fixed it for about six weeks.
    Systems:
Mac Pro 2.7 GHz 12 Core Intel Xeon E5
    OS X Mavericks 10.9.5
    Software:
    Premiere Pro CC 2014.1
    Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014.1
    Issue:
When Queuing exports from PP to AME, PP hangs (see screenshot) indefinitely. Can only export individual sequences with PP.
    Steps Taken:
Uninstall and remove all Adobe settings and programs
Reinstall clean copies of all programs
    Clear PP and AME preferences
Disable GPU acceleration in CC and AME
Disable native PP sequences in AME
We are at our wits end with this issue and really need to batch export in order to use Adobe PP within our daily workflow.

I can export directly from Premier Pro.
If I import the sequences using Adobe media encoder they typically fail and I get the sheep bahh sound. I can upload my logs of this if needed, but it is a secondary problem to PP hanging when queuing issue.
    Thank you for your time,

  • Premiere Pro hanging on my iMac

Sometimes, my Premiere Pro in my iMac just hangs; that is, I get the spinning beach ball. This usually happens when I'm playing some clip in my source monitor or moving my current time indicator fast through the clip in my source monitor. When it hangs, I have to right click on my Premiere Pro icon in my iMac dock and Force Quit.
I don't know what the cause is. My first guess is the playback controls in the source monitor, as I said above. At times, I feel like it has something to do with the Auto Save feature where I'm messing around with the source monitor while PPro wants to do an auto save. But I'm not sure.
I have a decent iMac: 2 GHz dual core Intel processor, 2GB RAM.

    Thanks. I did.
I also sent an email to tech support.

  • Premiere Pro CC Mac - Yellow preview bar with ProRes clips?

    Hello:
Even though I've made sure that my sequence settings are exactly matching my clip settings (ProRes4444 or 422HQ) I'm getting a yellow bar over my sequence.
I'm working on a 2012 Mac Pro running OS 10.7.5.  I downloaded Premiere Pro CC earlier today; I thought I'd play around with it to see how it compares to FCP7.  Most of my NLE usage is very simple, just assembling sections of motion graphics and 3D animations rendered out of After Effects in the ProRes 4444 codec.
The "New Sequence from Clip" function isn't behaving as I'd expect.  The comparable feature in FCP creates a sequence that matches all aspects of the selected clip (size, framerate, codec, etc.).  The Premiere implementation appears to only match the sequence size and framerate to the selected clip.
If I create a new sequence from a ProRes clip, or tell the sequence to match the clip, I'd expect that clip to be sitting in my timeline with no bar of any color.  But I get a yellow bar.  When I go to Sequence Settings I see that the editing mode is Arri Camera, and the Video Preview is greyed out on an MPEG format.  I have to go to Custom and manually select Quicktime, then specifiy the matching ProRes codec.  Shouldn't those wrapper and codec settings be matched automatically too when I've specified that function?
That said, if I go in and manually match the codec settings to my clip I still get the yellow bar.   If I select another sequence and click back on the new sequence the yellow bar is gone.
I'm assuming that this yellow bar issue is a display error of some sort, because if I export the sequence with "Match Sequence Settings" selected the export happens very quickly as I would expect with a Smart Render-compatible sequence.
    Is this a bug?
    Thanks.

    Sandeep:
Thanks for the reply, but did you read the body of my question or just send me off to this blog post based on only the title of my post?  Believe me, I read that post, plus several others regarding the color of the preview bars, and I spent an hour meticulously troubleshooting the issue.
Unless I'm missing something, nothing in that post to which you link explains why I'd be getting a yellow bar on a sequence that exactly matches the clip's settings, or why that yellow bar would disappear when I select another sequence and then click back on the original one.
Also, is the behavior of "New Sequence from Clip" I'm observing correct, in that that function won't conform the sequence to the wrapper or codec of the selected clip?
    Cheers.

  • Premiere Pro 8.1 won't play sped-up clip in real-time smoothly

Just upgraded my computer to an x99 MB, Haswell E process (5820k), GTX 970, and 64 GB of RAM (only using 24 GB due to nvidia issue with 32 GB ram +).
    I have a few clips from a 5D MKII-III (h264 MOV) that I'm speeding up significantly (2500%).
Premiere doesn't, and has never liked to play sped up clips smoothly for me in real-time. I thought this latest hardware upgrade would help, but same result.
    Has anyone experienced this?
I can provide my clip offline if anyone wants to test it.
My CPU util goes up significantly during playback, but doesn't spike on the new system (only 70% ish).

    Luke,
I ran your .MOV clip in a fresh project, put it on the timeline, and set the speed to 2500%. Observations below were largely the same (most unexpected by the way!) for 3 very different systems (listed below):
Initial playback was dropping some frames, but didn't really look too bad; CPU is definitely working the hardest for this workflow
After changing two rather random things, all 3 systems could play this back with zero lost frames. Settings included: Memory: set so 8GB is available outside of Premiere Pro (default is 3GB), Sequence Setting: checked Max Render Quality box (default is off), and performed a "Render Audio" on the sequence (this takes less than one second and seems to help a bit).
Rather interestingly, this particular workflow actually seemed to work a bit better when MPE was set to software only (GPU off)
Systems tested included (all running CC 2014):
    3 year old x58 6-cor i7-970 with SSD array, 24GB RAM, GTX 480
2x Xeon e5-2687w, 128GB RAM, GTX Titan, single Samsung 830 SSD for everything (OS/Programs/media/projects/swap/cache/scratch)
1x Xeon e5-2687w v2, 64GB RAM, SSD array, GTX Titan
    Questions:
What version of Premiere Pro are you using?
How many dropped frames are you getting when you just playback this clip?
Have you ever tried doing just a small project with just this clip (at 2500%)?
    Regards,
    Jim

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC Timeline automatically zooms in when moving clips around

This is an issue that keeps happening. It has been an ongoing problem with Premiere Pro CC and now 2014.1. It would start after working for a while on a project and become more frequent as the project gets larger. The only way to rectify the problem is restarting the computer. I would be working and I go to drag a clip around on the timeline and the timeline will automatically zoom in and thus place the clip in the wrong location. This happens when I am not holding down any keys. It will continue to zoom in every time I move any clips on the timeline and once it starts it happens on all sequences. While restarting the computer seems to help I have to do that 5 or more times in a day which can be very frustrating. It doesn't seem to be related to any OS, computer, hard drive/storage. Deleting preview files, flushing PRAM, trashing preferences doesn't help either. I usually work with Quicktime files AppleProRes Codec or H.264. Any help or insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a video that demonstrates the bug:
Premiere Pro Version: Every version from 7.0.0 to 8.1
OS Version: Every version of Mavricks and Yosemite including version 10.10.1
The footage I most use is H.264 and ProRes 422
The problem occurs randomly throughout the day, nothing seems to trigger it. When it starts the only way to make it stop is to restart the computer
Other software running at this particular time is” Mail, Evernote, Safari, OmniFocus, On The Job, Text Expander, Messages, Preview
No third-party effects or codecs installed.
    Hardware:
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)
    3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon 5
    32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3
    AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB.
    No third-party I/O hardware.
Mercury Playback Engine is turned ON

    Hi Patrick,
Sorry, I've never seen that. What happens if you do not run any other software launched as you work? If you have time, please file a bug report: http://adobe.ly/ReportBug

  • Premiere Pro CC(2014) crashing when copying and pasting clips

Has anyone found Premiere to hang when copy and pasting clips from one sequence to another, or even within the same sequence.
Sometimes, it hangs then comes back to life.  Other time I just have to force quit.
    Thanks

I don't recall reports of such a problem. We'll need more info to attempt to troubleshoot the issue. Start with the prompts on this page: FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum? Especially the details on your computer.
    Also, please report the following:
the types of content in your sequence, particularly in segments you're pasting. The source(s) of the content, the codec(s), the duration of copied segments?
    where the content is stored?
whether either sequence was imported from a third-party program via XML or the like?
the sequence settings of both sequences?
what effects & transitions are in use, particularly in the segments you're pasting?
what is resource usage before and during the copy/paste operation? Is a CPU getting pegged? Does memory usage spike precipitously?

  • Premiere pro 2014 freezes when I try to "insert" clip into timeline

I just upgraded to 2014, 1 out of 4 times, when I try to insert a clip onto the timeline the program freezes and I have to force quit. I thought it might be some sort of conflict with the previous version premiere, so I uninstalled. Still happens. Makes the program completely unusable.

  • Premiere Pro hang on export

I have been seeing this too. I edit on a mac pro:
    Intel Dual Quad core
    24 gb DDR2 SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, Dual monitors
    OSX 10.6: Snow Leopard
    CS5 all updates applied.
Every time I export within PPro, the file exports perfectly but then PPro freezes on completion and I have to force close it. I have been working on a SD widescreen DV based project and exporting to "1080i 1/4 resolution h.264 m4v" flash files.

Well, first of all you cannot make higher res video from low res. You cannot upsize frame from 720 to 1080 and get good quality, your immage will be pixelated.
Second of all the data rate is different in two formats you mentioned.
So that is probably why your premiere hangs. It is trying to import your transcodes back into project panel but could not understand the format and data rate.
You can disable import fiture after transcode, but your video will not look good.
    Good luck

  • After upgrading from Win7 to Win8 Premiere Pro hangs on loading ExporterAVI.prm during start up

I've researched this problem extensively online and via the Adobe forums. The problem seems to have a multitude of causes and solutions, none of which worked for me. The only thing I haven't tried is a complete reformat and reinstallation of my OS which seems a rediculously drastic solution for what seems like a bug with either PP CS6 or Win8.
Also, as far as I can tell, I haven't made any other changes to Premiere whatsoever since the upgrade.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Yes, I've tried re-installing twice, but to no effect. I've tried every solution I could find online (and there were many) short of reformatting and reinstalling my OS, and nothing has worked.
