Premiere pro keeps crashing after importing files

I've been trying to import the sample bald eagle file you supply to help learn with this new Premiere editing program, and am trying to use the sample file (which didn't include audio btw), but every time try to import them, your program (Premiere Pro CC) keeps crashing on me.

Hi,
Thank you for posting on Adobe forums.
FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?
Thanks!

  • Premiere Pro CC crash after importing Media

    Hello,
I'm using the trial version of Premiere Pro CC. I've used it for this week without any problem importing just pictures.
Today I've imported videos and suddenly it started to crush after each importation. Now I can't import even pictures anymore.
I've checked on the forum and I've noticed that sometimes the problem is fixed just changing from General and change the GPU Acceleration to Mercury Playback Engine (software only), but it doesn't work for me.

I work with deadlines so I would really appreciate some help

For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
•-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself
    •nVidia Driver Downloads http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
    •ATI Driver Autodetect http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool

  • Premiere Pro keeps crashing when using overwrite (.) shortcut in Source Monitor

When editing a clip in the source monitor and then using the (.) key to overwrite the clip onto my timeline Premiere Pro keeps crashing. If I select the Timeline window and then press the (.) key it works fine, but if the Source Monitor is highlighted and I press (.) it crashes every time and shows these windows:
Premiere Pro has encountered an error.
    [/Volumes/BuildDisk/builds/mightykilt/shared/
    adobe/Mediacore/Backened/Make/Mac/../../Src/
    Sequence/LinkContainer.cpp-184]
    and then opens this one:
    Adobe Premiere Pro
Sorry, a serious error has occured that requires
Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to
    save your current project.
It saves my current project as a copy, which is good, but I've now ended up with lots of copies of the same project as it keeps on crashing. In order to work I have to make sure that the Timeline is highlighted before I use the shortcut. It makes for very precarious and tense editing!

I'm using a MacBookPro 15", OS X 10.8.4 and editing footage filmed at 24fps 1920x1080 on my Canon 550D/T2i. All .MOV files.
I purchased my software from iSoftware.co.uk. I'm worried that could be the problem.
Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

A crash with a very similar error message was fixed in the new CC release. The bug report in that case involved creating a multi-cam sequence, so it might not be directly related.
If you have a chance to download the CC trial, we'd be interested to know whether the crash remains in the new version.

  • Premiere pro keeps crashing

    Hi,
I am using Premiere pro and lately it keeps crashing every 10-15 minutes.  I have closed all programs and am only running Premiere pro.  I check the activity monitor and it looks like the inactive memory keeps increasing.  I have searched for this on the web and found I can "purge" it from the command line.  Still premiere pro keeps crashing.  This is very frustrating.  I cannot keep working like this.
I have a Mac OS version 10.8.5.  2.2 GHz Intel Core i7.  Memory is 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.  Startup Disk is Macintosh HD.
I have no idea what is causing this.  It seems to be random, but I think it happens often when I am playing the video after making some modifications to the timeline (e.g., changing zoom, audio, etc.).
    Thanks.

you may want to try switching the renderer to software only if its not already. this is an option when creating a new project, or from the menu, project settings.

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes when importing media.

Premiere Pro CC crashes when importing media. Every time. Driving me crazy.
It crashes as soon as the Windows dialogue box comes up.
Does it in new projects and in a project I created and imported into just fine 2 days ago.
    Have rebooted.
Running Windows 8.1 on Samsung Series 5 ultrabook Intel i5 - not too sure what else to say about other settings:
I did have a problem the other day when Windows was crashing when browing a large folder of largish  images and video clips but it went away when I put images and videos in separate folders.

    Thanks for reply.
Point taken but I've been using it for over a year for simple edits (5 min films) in PPCC just fine. Can't even do what I could do the other night now.
Simple folder with a few jpegs and movies in it. In fact it just crashes before I even got to another folder.

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes when importing .scc file

Hi all! Trying to use closed captioning features in Premiere Pro CC, and every time I try to import a .scc file (Created with Movie Captioner), Premiere crashes with a general error.
I've tried creating captions with Unix line breaks, and Windows line breaks, and I get the same result.
I'm on Mac OS10.7, if that has any bearing, and running on an 8 core Mac Pro with 24GB ram.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The file is malformed,  look at this line:

There's an illegal character ('-') where you see "-207".  So all of the data is offset by one spot.
So change that line to the following and it should work:

  • Premiere crashes after importing file

I have a Creative Cloud account with Premiere Pro CC that I have not used either on this computer or through this account before. When trying to import a file (mp4 codec h.264) I see the thumbnail appear in Premiere (screenshot) but then either a few seconds later or 1-2 mouse clicks later it will always crash Premiere to the desktop without an error message. I have tried changing the codec to MPEG-2 and have done a complete reinstall of Premiere but it still crashes the same way. Wondering if there is anything else I can do to fix this?
    Adobe Premiere Pro CC
    Version 7.0.1 (105)
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
    AMD Athlon II X3 445 Processor (3 CPUs) ~3.1GHZ
    16.384GB RAM
    AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
    AMD Radeon HD 6670

You can upload a sample clip for me to test here, but it is possible the media just isn't supported in PP.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 crashing when importing HDV Video

For some reason I keep getting crashes when importing HDV (720p60) video into the timeline of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.  This has happened on two different machines, with similar specs.
Per the suggested guidelines, here are the specifics:
    Version of Premiere Pro: CS6, Version 6.0.5 (001 (MC:264587))
    All updates have been installed.
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.8.5.
Source footage: HDV 720p60 video in .MOV container.
Full text of error message: "Sorry, a serious error has occured that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down.  We will attempt to save your current project."
Link to full crash report: http://goo.gl/Gn8Bzn
Crash occurs when trying to import HDV .MOV file.
This is a consistent problem when importing .MOV files of this type.
Complete Adobe Creative Suite is installed.  Also using Episode Pro encoding software from Telestream to prepare HDV video.  No other external video hardware or codecs installed.
Yes, I am using the Mecury Playback Engine GPU acceleration.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me figure this one out.

  • Premiere Pro keeps crashing on startup.

    Hi, there.
So, I've just installed a fresh version from Premiere Pro CC from the Creative Cloud and I keep getting the "Premiere Pro has stopped working" upon the loading screen.
I've searched and I've updated my graphic drivers, my intel graphic drivers, I've reinstalled a lot of times and I even tried running into compability mode and it keeps crashing. I'm kinda getting a bit desperate since I gotta finish editing a work this weekend.
Anyone got any other options I could try?
    Thank you.

I went to Event Viewer logs and got this:

  • Premiere CC Keeps crashing after new OS X Yosemite update

After updating to the new OS X Yosemite Premiere CC has been very unstable and crashing almost hourly. Thankfully there is a recovery file but this is still frustrating and time consuming.
Has anyone else been experiencing the same problem and is there a fix?
    Thanks

    Hi Roland,
Mac OS X users might be subject to anomalies in the OS.
    Try the following:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe preference files are set to read/write
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot
Report back if anything here worked for you.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Premiere Pro CC crashing after opening autosave project

    PP CC crashes quite often.
Working since weeks on a 60-minute-documentary with mixed footage (4K XAVC / Canon XF / XDcam HD 422).
Because of the many crashes (5-10 per day) I´ve have to reopen / restore many times autosave-projects.
Not a good idea: because most projects are corrupt.
At least when I try to integrate the whole project into a new one.
Importing just the sequence into a new project works fine - but I also need my sorted BINS (structure, files, etc.)
    What can I do?
    new Mac Pro 8core

  • Premiere Pro CS4 Crashes When Importing HD Clips

I've used Camtasia forever but recently decided to "upgrade" to Premiere Pro when I got my new Macbook.  Not being familiar with Premiere at all, I thought I would play with it with a few short clips.  I have HD footage of my martial arts class which I shot with my Canon Vixia HG20 and copied it to my Macbook.  However, when I imported a few clips into Premiere Pro and try to play it, it hangs.  It will play one or two clips and then it stops responding after that.
All in all, it's only about 2 minutes of footage that I've put into Premiere Pro.  I have no problems putting the clips into the Timeline but when I try to preview the clips (either in the source monitor or the program monitor windows), Premiere Pro gives me the little rainbow pinwheel and 20 minutes later, it's still spinning around.  I bought a 500Gb external hard drive to use as the scratch disk because I thought maybe it was a space issue having everything on my Macbook but I still get the pinwheel.  My only solution is to force quit the program.
I have a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro on OS X (10.5.6) with 4GB of memory, GeForce 8600M graphics card, and 200GB hard drive.  I've read about a of of the crashes on here but didn't really see anything similar to my situation.  Any ideas?  I spent a lot on Premiere Pro and am not willing to give up on it  quite yet.
    Please and thank you!

17 Mbps is still at the high end, but IMHO they should ultimately work.
Very often with AVCHD, you have to play a clip until it freezes, then wait.  If you monitor CPU usage during the waiting time, you'll see that it is quite active.  The process using the CPU is the ImporterProcessServer, which has to do some kind of magical stuff to the AVCHD clips in order for them to play and scrub in Pr.  Once the IPS is done, you should be able to scrub and play the clip just fine.
Usually you only have to do this once per clip, but sometimes more.  Sometimes the work that the IPS does carries over between Pr sessions, and sometimes it doesn't.
Smaller frame sizes and lower bit rates in AVCHD video helps make the editing experience in Pr much better.
My hope is that the upcoming 4.1 update will address some of these AVCHD issues.

I tried it without the directional blur effect and it rendered fine, for some reason it just can't deal with directional blur...
