Premiere Pro makes it hard to use keyboard shortcuts

I'm using CC 2014, but this has been a problem for many versions: as soon as I do almost anything, the timeline loses focus, so the editing shortcuts don't work, and the machine only beeps when I press a key combination. I have to remember to keep pressing Esc to return the focus to the timeline. I'm wearing out the Esc key. This gets more annoying the more I use it.
And this problem occurs only on my Windows machine, not on my Mac.
Does anyone know of a solution? Or should I just submit a bug report?

This happens on multiple Windows machines, and running Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 (maybe earlier versions too, I don't recall). And it's happened with PPro 6, CC and CC 2014 (again, maybe earlier versions, but I don't recall).
Frequent example: I press Ctrl + K in two locations to place two cuts, then Shift + Delete to do a ripple delete. Working OK, so far. Then I press H for the Hand tool, scroll a little down the timeline to the next place I want to edit, maybe Alt + roll the mouse wheel to zoom. At this point, if I press Ctrl + K to make another cut, the computer just beeps because the timeline doesn't have the focus. So I press Esc, and then I'm able to press Ctrl + K to make the next cut.
Deleting preferences, etc., makes no difference, and I haven't seen this behavior in any other application.

Another quick test shows I have exactly the same issues as shooternz and Ann Bens above at 7 & 8 respectively. An audio only or audio/video clip from Bin to SM and I can add markers on the fly perfectly. Audio/video from the timeline to SM works just the same. Audio only from the timeline will not work however.
I tried linking a video clip to my audio clip to see if that would allow me to add markers then unlink and remove the video... but when I opened that in SM the add marker button was greyed out and the keyboard shortcut (M) didn't work either!
Curiouser and curiouser...

Good question. If/when it does it again, I'll check. However, until you asked that, I never noticed the keyboard layout options and that one of them is CS5.5. That's an easier fix for me than re-customizing everything, as I was just wanting the CS5 layout.
Something else I noticed is that my workspace is set for "Import from Project" and I'm supposing it's possible that the keyboard layout is connected to the workspace and might be either resetting it to CS6 or custom, which may or may not have had those customizations. About 25% of the projects I'm working on currently are pre-CS6, so every time I load one of those up, it might be making everything else go wonky.
In any event, I have a better idea what to look out for now. Thanks

Using keyboard shortcuts with the text tool active

How does one use keyboard shortcuts when the Text Tool is selected? For example, how do I switch to the Selection Tool when the Text Tool is active? I cannot press "V", as it simply types the letter "v" instead of switching to the Selection Tool.

Premiere Pro is not responding and using 587% of CPU

My projects are going extrordinarily slow. and according to the activity monitor, Premiere Pro is using 587% of the CPU and the fan is going non-stop and the macbook is always very hot when I start this program. I feel this could physically damage my laptop if I left it running to render only 286 frames of a clip that takes over an hour to do at this high usage.
Only this program does this to the CPU When I turn it off Premiere Pro, the heat starts to cool off and the fan slows down, and it eventually goes quite again
What would be causing this?
I am using a new 15 inch macbook that is a few months old with 16 GB of RAM and 2.6 GHz processor.
I feel Premiere Pro could could almost be a fire hazzard to my home. What is wrong with my system? have there been previous lawsuites for CS6 for this issue?

Update the GoPro firmware, shoot some footage, and then see if the new footage will work in Premiere Pro for you.

Premiere Pro does not support the use of gtx780ti in the cc.

Premiere Pro and Media Encoder are not certified to the renderer.
If you have ever used a 780ti if you would let us know how cuda is available.

Premiere Pro CS5.5 keeps hanging (using looks)

For start, my PC specs (in case if relevant)
i7 2600k
Sabertooth p67
Win 7 x64
Samsung 830 SSD (Win7, Premiere pro, all other programs installed here)
3x 1TB HDDs for storage, scratch disks, etc..
GTX 570
32GB memory
I've been using Looks for most of my projects since begining of last year. The only hardware difference I made was SSD and additional 16GB of ram (32 in total now).
Premiere pro worked like a charm, exporting time was ok, render time was ok. But about 6 months ago (not exactly after the SSD and Ram upgrade...let's say a month later) it started to hang. While editing bigger projects (300+ clips, 30-40min long final edit, almost every clip using Looks plugin), the "sand clock" comes up, PPro isn't responding anymore and I have to wait (the program crashes in only about 5% and that happens if I do not wait for the "sand clock" to dissapear - it usually dissapears within 1-2 min).
Lately I'm having this problem with small, 1 minute long videos (final edit duration). It is quite annoying. Not using 3rd party plugins eliminates the problem but I am still curious why is this happening now and not from the start?
While the PPro hangs, task manager shows only about 30-45% of CPU is used and not even once more than 20GB of ram (26GB of ram are assigned for PPro), so it doesn't seem like it's hardware problem...
Any idea? Or should I just stop using Looks?

Premiere Pro CC 2014 and AME using only 25% of CPU

I've been having this problem with Premiere PRO CC 2014 and that when exporting it uses only 25% of my CPU thus taking 4 times longer than CS6 to export the same file project. I read a couple of forums with people having the same problems, I tired disabling CPU parking, disabling "Import sequences natively" in AME but no result.
Quick PC specs:
i5 4670
16GB of RAM
GeForce GTX 760 4GB DDR5
Everything for Adobe including the video files in use are of Samsung's SSD drives. Using CUDA as the render engine.
Currently one hour and 4 minutes clip in 4k takes about 52 hours to encode in Premiere CC 2014 and 9hr to encode the same project in CS6. Any ideas?

Take a look at your GPU usage with something like GPU-Z to see if both Premiere versions are using the same amount of MPE GPU hardware acceleration. Actually with CC 2014 it might work faster because Adobe added in more 4k effects/features for GPU acceleration.
You might want to download our Premiere Pro BenchMark (PPBM) and run it on both versions. The H.264 very complex timeline has 4K material in it and usually shows Premiere Pro 8.xxx take about only half the time that Premiere Pro CS6 take to export that same timeline.

Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 "The editing mode used by this project could not be loaded."

I am encountering an issue with my Adobe Premier Pro CS3. I am trying to open up a project that another person has created on a different editing system. When I try to open, it comes up with the error "The editing mode used by this project could not be loaded. The project will be opened in Desktop mode." The next window is a Windows Explorer screen, that wants me to choose a file to open. If I cancel that, it brings up a blank looking project with no timeline or anything?
A quick comparison of systems:

I have googled the error message, but have not found anything to fix this. I have also verified from Help - About that we have the exact same versions of Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 installed.
I need to be able to view this project on either computer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

I have never used any non-standard files, but from reading here, desktop mode is used when the video files are not standard... in one way or another, but usually pixel dimensions
What is the codec and properties of the files in that project?
Are you sure they are 100% standard?

Can I buy and download adobe premiere pro at home and then use that DMG to install it in my office?

Have just purchased a beast of a Mac Pro. Will be using this for editing a feature film. Problem is I need to buy and download Adobe Premiere Pro. My internet speed in the office is abysmal and it would take forever to download. Thats why I was thinking of downloading the software at home, and then using that DMG file to install on the Mac Pro in office. Is this possible? Will appreciate any help at all.

You can download the Enterprise Deployment packages and install them, but you still need to install the CC app in the first place.

Adobe Premiere Pro 6 CS Close Captions using Pro 6 CC?

I have Adobe Premiere Pro 6 CS and need to create Close Captions for a production I'm doing.
I know I can't create the Captions on Pro 6 CS but can I create them in Pro 6 CC and import them into the production on the CS side?

Here is a thread that discusses closed captioning functionality and the split between legacy PPRO CS 6.0 and the online CC version at that time -- Premiere Pro CC version 7.01.

Projects created from on version of PPRO should migrate with no problems to the next version. Closed captions can be added to any project you open, provided the application version you are using supports creating closed captions.
I suggest you work with one version of PPRO to keep things simple.

To my knowledge, the editing keyboards don't add special hotkeys - rather, the normal keyboard shortcuts are simply printed ON the keys, and color-coded.
So to answer the question, yes, there is a "Save Project" and it is CTRL+S, as you already know

Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 crashes after using "File"-Menu

As of yesterday, can the "File" menu no longer operate. Other submenus can not be done. The program crashes after.
I have been three times the program is uninstalled and reinstalled. No improvement.
Yesterday I drove down the PC and there were 21 Windows updates, are there perhaps relationships?
Who can help me?

Update! - FIX...
Spent about 5 hours working with a 2nd level Adobe Support tech and we were able to track down the error. You’re not going to believe this.
Adobe Premiere was the only application affected by the bug. AF, Encore, Audition were all able to open a WAV file with no problem. Premiere would lock up (Not Responding) as soon as you tried to open a WAV file.
Come to find out it was not an Adobe problem after all. I installed the Smart Sound plugins in June/July of this year and that plugin was the issue. Once it was removed I could import Wav files again.
Smart Sound has upgraded the plugin and the new plugin works just fine.
My thanks to the Adobe tech who stayed with the problem until it was resolved. And I suggested to the SmartSound tech that they find a better way to notify users when they find a bug of this magnitude. But you might guess how well that was revived.

Premiere Pro CC. Can I use Mercury Playback Support?

I have an iMac (27-inch Mid 2011) with 16gb of memory. I have installed Premiere Pro CC but only get the software option for Mercury. Can I engage graphics card support? Will it be supported in the future?
