Premiere pro or encore?

hi all-some advise needed.
I want to make the best quality professional wedding dvd for a client nd I have a few options and i just want to get feedback on which is the best method.
pc=win xp, prem pro 2 and encore 1.5, PAL, 4x3 plenty of hard disk space, 2gb RAM
wedding is 2 hour long but am I splitting in 2 to get the best quality
I think have 3 options-which is the best?
Option 1 build the DVD in premiere pro via DVD layout (nice wedding menus as well)
Option 2 export the encoded wedding via the encoder (media concept i think) and then just import and build the menus and dvd in encore
Option 3 export an uncompressed avi file via file-movie-export into encore and let encore do the encoding and build the dvd.
What do you guys think? Am i missing any other better options?
I would really aprreciate any advise or criticism,
(apologies for posting this in another area)
thanks
Paul

I like Option #3 and #4 (Jim's). Two hours of good video should Transcode to good quality on a DVD-5. It will be a bit better on a DVD-9, so long as your clients' machines can handle these (most can nowadays). If you do not have a bunch of Audio streams, ROM content or Subtitles, you should be fine. One consideration might be to Export the Audio as Dolby Digital AC3, instead of PCM/WAV, as this will allow a bit more room for the Video. I find that Encore works perfectly with elemental streams (single DV-AVI Type II video only, and either PCM/WAV, or AC3 audio only). Muxed files *can* cause some problems on occasions.
Good luck, and please report if you see any problems with the 2 hr. Duration on a DVD-5. I doubt that you will, unless you study the footage very critically. If you do, then Jim has nailed it with the DVD-9.

PS, you can use the Menus from PrPro in Encore, as they are but .PSD files. I'm not sure if they are different than the Wedding Menus in Encore, but if they are, I'd just copy them over into the Wedding sub-folder in Encore, so they will appear in your Library. Otherwise, just Import_As_Menu and navigate to the proper Menu in the PrPro "library" folder.

Did you have the full-paid version originally, or the "trial?"
If you had the full-paid version, why did you download the trial?
If you had the trial, it does stop working after a period of time - it is limited that way. If you had the trial, you can never install another trial on that machine. It's a one-time deal.
If you did have the trial, you will want to not only uninstall it, but also run the Adobe CS4 CleanScript a few times, before you attempt to install the full-paid version, or you WILL have problems.
Let us know exactly what you had, and what you wish to do now, and someone can help you.

  • Problem with premiere pro and encore with win7 enterprise 64-bit.

We are a college with approx 500 pc's running win7 enterprise 64-bit.  Premiere pro and Encore will only open with admin login, not user login.  All other packages ok. Any suggestions as to why this is?

Our lab has just had CS6 installed on it, running Win 7 enterprise. A user account will open a Premiere Pro project. I've done it. That was only to check that everything worked ok. I edited a couple of clips and stuck them on a sequence (16:9 PAL DV) and it played them ok and the project was saved back to the USB hard drive OK.
I have also opened up encore, made a new project and saved it to the USB HDD. No assets were added to it, just checking that the preference files had copied from the central server to the machine, so that users have certain options already pre-selected.
What exactly are the problems with Win 7 enterprise?

IIf in laying out the DVD in Encore you find that you'd like to change something in the Premiere file after you've imported it into Encore, you simply make the change and re-export the movie to the same name/directory etc. i.e. overwriting the previous file.
I cannot stress how strongly I disagree with this method.  You should never, ever overwrite an asset that is used in Encore from outside of Encore.  That is asking for big trouble, and if you don't get bitten by it right away, you will get bitten by it eventually.  Instead, you should add a version number to the modified asset, and then use the Replace Asset command.  Another good method if you're using an all-Adobe workflow is to use Edit Original, which will open up the program used to create the asset.  When you finish the modifications, saving will update the asset in Encore, and make sure that all links to all supporting files are maintained.
The worst thing that can happen using labrisher's workflow is that your Encore project will crash with the dreaded PGC error, or some other fatal error, and you will never be able to recover and build a finished disc, disc image or set of DVD folders.  You will then have to rebuild the project from scratch.

  • Dynamic Link (Adobe Premiere Pro to Encore) issues with burning a DVD from the project file

    Hello,
I am running Adobe Suite CS 5.1 on my Mac:
    2.8 GHz Quad Core
    6GB Memory
I've been having issues with a few projects; using Dynamic Link, directly from my project in Premier, to send them to Encore:
When attempting to burn a DVD, Encore will 'hang up' and not burn; I rarely burn to DVD, usually I'm always encoding for web, and just always use the 'default settings' in Encore.
    A few things to note:
*In my project I'm using MOV files, from a Canon 7D, and MP4 files, from a Sony EX-1.
*I am working off of 3 separate hard drives; very large projects with over 5TBs of media files.
*I noticed that after inserting a DVD, it caused one of my hard drives to eject; this happened once, as far as I know.
*This only happens when I use Dynamic Link to send to Encore, via my Premiere Pro project file.
*My Project settings are always: XDCam HD-1080p/24p
    Please help.
    Thanks

So you must downrez at some point in the workflow. Some users have problems and/or think they get better quality out of direct PR/AME exports than using DL for this purpose.
I would test the workflow by creating three short test sequences - one with a clip from one camera, a second from the other, and a third with both in a sequence using the same settings you are using in your edit. I would use the "drag a clip" to the new item method for making each of the first two sequences. By short I mean 30 seconds to 2 minutes with a mixture of still and action.
Export using whatever method you pick of those recommended, but use CBR 8 instead of VBR etc. Bring the resulting files into Encore. Yes, look at the files exported on the computer, and look at Encore preview, etc, but also burn to a disk and watch on multiple TVs. There are lots of issues in best quality.

  • Loss of video quality & shaking on DVD after using premiere pro and encore to process material?

    Hi guys,
This is my first post out here on the adobe forums (so be gentle) and i am having a small issue which i hope someone can help with.
I made a small video for a friend of mine of her and her partner over the last 10 years of them being together. There is only one small video piece at the start and the rest of the video is picture based with music in the background. Now, i cut, mixed and edited all this material they gave me in Premiere Pro. I also added menu breaks to be able to eventually create scenes in Encore. This worked fine and the quality was great! I then queued this up and added my time line into Encore and began working on the menu screen, scene buttons and using the orphanage to drag my content from. I also set up some poster frames and so far all looked great.
Before building the DVD, i tested for errors and all came back clear. I changed it burning directly to a dvd disc, and instead built it as a DVD image, which created an ISO file on on my pc. From watching a few tutroials, ImgBurn was suggested as a great tool to burn the ISO onto DVD. So far, this was looking good. I then placed my new DVD into my Blu-Ray/DVD player and on screen came this pixelated image. I wasnt terrible, but it wasnt great either, not the sort of quality i was used to. I proceeded to start the movie and the picture was worse, the screen was shaking up and down constantly (only by about half a centimeter up and half down) and the quality was terrible.
Is there anyway to fix this?
(Happy to run through all my settings with someone on the phone or online. Happy to call overseas in need be, as i am in Australia)
    Thanks guys
    Rein

erm... ok, you might have to go back a page or two... cause i am not so familiar with all the terms and lingo....lol
Where would i find this field dominance?
I did initially export it as a bluray, but then had to change it to dvd since i dont have a bluray burner. They dont give you any other options in encore besides DVD, Bluray or flash...

  • Moving timelines from Premiere Pro to Encore?

The only options that seem to work in my Premiere Pro/Encore version CS3 are to export from Pro using "export to Encore" .  However, once I do this I am left with a bunch of ncor files that I have not been able to consolidate into one project.  Nor can I import it as a whole then razor it into parts in Encore so that I can create separate timelines in order to create menu links for my DVD.    I have tried to save or convert the Pro timelines into wmv files with no luck.  Mac users don't seem to have these problems.  I am using a muscular PowerSpec PC with plenty of memory run by Windows Vista  which is an awful operating system because it freezes periodically requiring me to start over.  I am not sure that any of these other problems can be attributed to Vista. Encore seems to be an especially inflexible program.  I assume I just don't know how to use the software well.

You have that option, but it's a multi-part process, as Jim mentions. In PrPro, just Export as a DVD-compliant MPEG-2 Video-only file. Do the same for the Audio, as either a PCM/WAV, or DD AC3, Audio-only file.
Then, in Encore, Import the MPEG as a Timeline, and the Audio-only file as an Asset. From the Project Panel in Encore, just drag the Audio file to the appropriate Timeline, where it will snap into place.
One can also Export from PrPro as a DV-AVI, Video-only, Import that into Encore as a Timeline, and let Encore Transcode that on Automatic.
    Good luck,

  • Create a DVD using Premiere Pro and Encore - delay between audio and video (in ms)?

I created a DVD and need to be sure that audio and video are in perfect sync (smaller than 1 millisecond).
Is this even possible with Premiere Pro / with DVDs in general?
My sequence settings in Premiere are:
DV PAL, 25 fps, 720x576 (16:9), D1/DV PAL Widescreen, lower field first, Audio: 48000 Hz
My DVD settings in Encore are:
    MPEG-2 (MainConcept MPEG-Video), 720x576, 25 fps, lower field first, Widescreen 16:9 (1,458), Bitrate VBR, 2-Pass, Min 1,5 MBit/s Target 4 MBit/s, Max 9 MBit/s, GOP: M-Frames 3, N-Frames 12, Audio: Dolby Digital, 192 kbit/s

I created a DVD and need to be sure that audio and video are in perfect sync (smaller than 1 millisecond).
Is this even possible with Premiere Pro / with DVDs in general?
Frame accurate is the best you can achieve and that means 33 milliseconds at best.

  • I need to create DVDs but Premiere Pro requires Encore, and Encore is no longer available

I had Encore installed, but it gave me error messages when trying to import a Premiere Pro CC 2014 file. Following the advice from the support listings, I uninstalled Premiere Pro, then downloaded and ran the Adobe cleanup file, which removed my copy of Encore. Now I can't find a way to download it again because it's only available if I download Premiere Pro CS6, and there's no way to find and download PP CS6.
I'm in the middle of a project for the Library of Congress, that requires me to send a DVD. Adobe should recognize that DVDs are still important for some applications, and should be making Encore as available as all the other applications in Creative Cloud. This has become a very frustrating process when it should be getting easier.

Are you sure? CS6 still shows up in my Creative Cloud app (which I upgraded moments ago, by the way).
Your point is that PR/EN CS6 is still available, and that is true.Your list is of the "installed apps" section and indicates that it is already installed. The poster indicates it was uninstalled and he should be looking in the "find new apps" area. Many users appear to be continuing to install PR CS6 with EN CS6. But others are having problems (as some have all along).
A new problem appears to be that users seem to believe they have to uninstall PR CC in order to add PR CS6. And some odd errors have added fuel to the fire.
The errors referred to by this user were probably no more than trying to dynamic link from PR CC to EN, which, of course, does not work.

  • Error: Premiere Pro and Encore: Could not find video play modules

Please help! I am ripping my hair out!
I have CS3 Master suite and just reciently started having proiblems with Premiere Pro and Encode where I get an error: "Could not find video play modules, please reinstall and try again"
I HAVE reinstalled, and still no luck! I have even used the CS3 clean utility, blew away everything ADOBE I could think of, reinstalled -  and that hasn't helped.
    I have a Windows XP (32 bit) SP3 box
    4 GB Ram
3.167 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
Nvidia GeForce GTX 285 video card.
All drivers are up to date.
I heard it could be a CODEC problem, but I do not know where or how to get the correct or missing CODECs.   I also have AVID Media Composer 3.5 insalled on the box, but I'm not sure if that is creating conflict (it used to work before - not sure what happened).
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Ryan

    Ryan,
Could be a CODEC issue. First, get G-Spot and install/run it on your files. It will tell you exactly what they are, and what you need, if it shows them as not being installed.
Might be as simple as going to, say MainConcept's site, downloading and installing just the right CODEC. Without the info from G-Spot, we'd only be guessing.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
Tip: always install JUST the CODEC's that are required. Do not install any CODEC "packs." They will most likely give you problems someplace.

  • Premiere Pro and Encore CS6 shutting down.

I recently switched my graphics card from a GTX680 to a GTX780. Everything worked fine until I did that. First I found that I had to add the card to the "approved cards" file for premier and after effects. I did that by simply adding it to the existing list and hitting save. That brought back the CUDA capabilities in those applications.
Premiere was running well but exporting the video ran into some problems. I exported a clip through Media Encoder and it was running great (and fast) until about halfway through and it just shut down Media Encoder with no warning. I tried the same thing exporting straight through Premiere and got the same thing then Premeir shut down. I tried different clips and different formats but got the same results.
When those programs shut down, the rest of the computer runs fine.
Are there steps I missed installing the new card? or do I need to change something in the Bios?
I am running a PC with:
    Core i7 3770K  (not overclocked)
    Asus GeForce GTX780
    G-Skill Ram at 32GB running at 1600
The BIOS was just updated in an effort to write that off as a problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks for your response Jim.
Here is the latest. The computer itself started shutting down while working in premiere so I went back into the BIOS and changed the RAM from 1866MHZ to 1600MHZ and that seems to have fixed the problem. I was able to render that file and the computer seems solid again.
I won't be excited until it goes the rest of the day today and tomorrow and renders a 60 minute file again. Not sure what the ram speed was set to before updating the BIOS so I am guessing that was it.

  • LaCie d2 blu-ray 8X burner and Premiere Pro CS4/ Encore

Is anyone using this combo? If you are, have you burned a blu-ray movie yet?
I am wanting to purchase a player known to work with PP CS4.
I plan to use a Canon HFS 100 and the H.264 codec.
    Any suggestions out there?

    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question directly about that piece of hardware. Others should be along with knowledge of it.
In the meantime, you might want to read this ARTICLE by Neil Wilkes from the Adobe Encore FAQ. There is a lot of good, general Burning info in it.

  • Quality reduction from Premiere Pro to Encore DVD

I have 3 videos exported as mpgs from PPro that are 4GB, 1GB, 1GB. I was happy with the overall quality of those files. But when I imported them into Encore and burned a DVD, they only took up ~750MB of space on the disk. The quality of the DVD output was not nearly as crisp as the exported mpegs.
How can I get the best quality DVD output from my videos to transfer to Encore?
    Thanks in advance
    Ray

Export from PPro as AVI, with settings appropriate to your area... NTSC or PAL
I second John's recommendation. That is my workflow.
My guess would be that your MPEG-2 Exports are not 100% DVD-compliant, or that the Export settings could be improved upon.
    Good luck,

  • Library content missing for Adobe  Creative Suite - for Premiere Pro and Encore. Use CS6 content?

Can I use CS6 download and installer and apply it to my CS5 programs?
    Thank you!

The basic content is an installer, so I want to say "no."t But I don't know what it actually would do if CS6 is not installed. But the CS6 functional content installer (for PR and EN) REMOVES the CS5.5 Encore library. Go figure.
This was true some time ago, and I have not heard it was fixed.
If would try the process and see if the content can be uncompressed. In the end, it is just content in folders.
For the Encore full library templates and buttons etc, you can just expand the compressed file and use it in CS5.
