Premiere Pro running slow with Quadro 4000 on Mac-Pro

Hi Forum, I could really use some help.
I recently upgraded to CS6 abnd have been having major speed issues in Premiere Pro ever since. At the time I was running with an ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB and using CS5.5 with no issues.
After installing CS6 my Premiere Pro projects just slowed to a crawl. After doing some hasty research online i "upgraded" to the Quadro 4000 for Mac. It made the applications usable but still frustratingly slow. Exporting projects either directly from Premiere Pro or through Media Encoder is 2-3 times slower than before. I'm ready to ditch CS6 and go back to CS5.5 if necessary as it is serioulsy impacting my productivity.
Any advice on fixing this issue would be greaty appreciated. Hardware, work-flow, software recommendations? I'll take it all!
I also use two Mac monitors (only one of which is hooked up as I am awaiting the arrival of a converter to hook the second to the DVI-I) and would like to use 3 but I cannot run the ATI card at the same time as the Quado as there are only two power supply sources in the mac-pro housing.

Have you tried trashing prefs and repairing permissions? It could help.

I cannot use SpeedGrade or render a Premiere Pro movie on CC or CC 2014 without crashing my Quadro 4000 on Mac Pro. It restarts without reading the graphic card again. Macbook pro running slow with loud fan

Hi,
I have my macbook pro for about 2 years now, and in the last couple of months it started running slow, and the fan gets really loud even immediately after startup.
I ran the disk utility, clean my mac, and disk inventory, and I deleted large files. I have about 35GB free (out of 250GB). I use CS5 and Parallels Desktop, which I thought were the reason for making it so slow, but I usually quit whenever I'm not using them.
I checked the console and I found repeating messages about Chrome. It's the one application that's always open... so I guess it might have something to do with it..?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Your drive is still pretty full so that could still be a factor. You want 15%-20% free space for the OS to work well.
Open Activity Monitor and see if you have some process hogging the CPU. Be sure to select "All Processes" at the top. If you find a rogue process that is doing that, see if you can quit it. It may even be Chrome, and if it is, quit it and relaunch it. If it does the same thing again, you may want to trash it and reinstall it fresh.

Mac Pro running slow with FCP...

Hi, I have a Mac Pro OS 10.5.8
FCP version 6.0.1
I've had the computer about 8 months and edited roughly 45 hours of footage on it so far. I use an external hard drive as my scratch disk capacity 931 GB (359 GB available).
About a month ago I started working on audio editing with Soundtrack pro and the computer started doing a lot of thinking and subsequent crashing. Now it seems I can't upload clips any longer than 4 or 5 minutes without FCP crashing and loosing the clip I was trying to upload.
I tried calling Applecare and did an archive and install. I did the software updates. What are the next avenues I should try in order to get my computer up to speed.
I paid a decent amount for the computer, I would expect it be able to handle this type of workload. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Dreamcolor with Quadro 4000 on Mac

Hi there,
I'm trying to run my Dreamcolor off display port coming from my Mac's (10.7.4) Quadro 4000, and I'm getting an ugly image - looks like the antialiasing is all screwed up or something.
Does anyone have experience with this connection? I'm trying to get rid of the need for my AJA system, as that is notoriously difficult with drivers and such.

Hey Run & Gunner! We have a stable system at present, no issues since installing the 4000. Here's the specs below. I've seen a few posts here where people are not using CUDA on MacPro and seem to have managed a quite speedy system. I'm not that brilliant, so CUDA was an easy fix.
Our MacPro 5,1, 12 gig memory, 10.6.8 our Quadro 4000 gpu driver is 1.6.37.0 and our CUDA driver is 4.1.25, not the latest, but the whole system is very stable.
Also we have a Kona LHe that I'm only currently using for audio (see last note below). Our RAID is software and via a FirmTek eSATA card. We also have an ATTO SCSI card for backups with our budget Quantum DLT drive.
I did some research before installing the 4000 as Todd mentioned above. Made sure I installed the correct card and CUDA drivers first (not necessary on Lion as also mentioned) before installing the 4000.
The big thing I gleaned from probably all the posts you read too was wise words not to update the CUDA and card drivers immediately when they came out if my system was already stable. Then I'd do some research to make sure there weren't any issues before updating between projects. I've generally applied this for other updates too for years, but sometimes I"ve gotten lazy and that's when I've been stung.
Ironically enough, we had issues with crashing in FCP7 (stock ATI then) and eventually discovered it was the Kona not playing well with the native HDV footage we were editing with. All that when all my editor MacPro friends had zero issues editing with many other codecs in FCP7 and AJA (but different Kona cards).

Why is my MacBook Pro running slow with spinning rainbow icon?

I currently have a MacBook Pro 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GB running Snow Leopard that is a little over a year old and lately it has been getting really hot on the bottom right corner and will randomly have a spinning rainbow icon when I try to surf the web or multitask. It never did this until about 3 months ago. It now runs very slow at times. What is causing this and how can it be fixed? Thanks.

Go to the bottom of that window and click the submenu "CPU" to see the dynamic read-out of I/O [in and out]. This will give you an overview of the system activity. If you want to isolate one process, then click on it to highlight then look at the read-out.
If the numbers are low with no unusual spikes then you need to look elsewhere to discover the slow down in the system. It might be lack of operating room on the HD. Check your Macintosh HD icon in the upper right of the desktop: highlight and press Command + "I" [⌘I] for Info. If your disk is starting to fill up and there is not enough free space, that can slow down the works.

My display recently started to have the theater/stagelight problem. I don't know what it is and I want to know if my computer is dieing on me?

My Mac book pro is running real slow since upgrading from leopard to lion. Takes up to a minute or more to boot up and open some programs like I Photo.

Perhaps you need more RAM or you do not have enough Free Space on your Hard Drive...

Immediately after installing Mountain Lion, your system will be rebuilding the Spotlight index. This should only take a couple of hours at most. If the problem persists you can run diagnostics. MacBook Pro runs slower with Mavericks

Do I need a faster computer? I aleready have 8GB RAM.

It can take a couple of reboots for all the caches maintained by the system to be rebuilt.

Macbook Pro running Snow leaopard can not share screen with Mac Pro running lion with "Back to my Mac"

Anyone else? When I use back to my mac, I can get access to the files on my desktop, BUT, I can't screen share. Screen share is sleected in settings and everything I know to check is set up right. Back to my Mac ir running on both machines using the same sign in.
Any ideas?

Once you get yourself back to Snow Leopard, if you still want to upgrade somewhat, I would suggest the following:
1. Get an external hard drive that you can use for experiments with new OS versions. You could partition it into 2 or 3 partitions. You could then clone your existing Snow Leopard system to one partition using Carbon Copy Cloner (well worth $40) or SuperDuper ($25).
2. Buy OS X Mountain Lion for $20, through the Apple online store (I don't think it's available through the App Store). Apple has decided to make it very difficult for anyone to get Mavericks unless they have already downloaded it.
You will receive two e-mails from Apple, one containing a PDF with a redemption code, and one with the password you will need to unlock the PDF. Using the code, you will download Mountain Lion from the App Store, where it will appear among your Purchased items.
After ML finishes downloading, its installer app will launch itself. When you see this launch screen, QUIT the install app immediately! Go to your applications folder, find the Install OS X Mountain Lion app, and copy it to a safe location outside of your Applications folder. Keeping one or more copies will allow you to reinstall without unnecessary aggravation if you later need or want to do that. At this point, you can re-launch the Installer in the Applications folder and let it run. You can install it on a clean partition on your external HD, or you can allow it to upgrade the Snow Leopard clone you created on your external drive, or you can do both. This should allow you to test how everything works for as long as you like.
3. If you left yourself a free partition on your test drive, try a clean install of Yosemite and set everything up from scratch (do not migrate anything). This will allow you to see whether your problems with it were related to something in your Snow Leopard system.

Running movie with avi extension on mac pro

hi i am unable to run a movie that have an extension "avi"..Can any body help?

You should be able to view it using VLC.

But VLC should give you basic viewing ability.

Macbook Pro Running Slow (2yrs old)

My macbook pro has been running slow for several months. I thought maybe it was because my 12yr old created a second user account, but I think I deleted it and I'm still having issues.

First, the worst way to try to fix a malfunctioning system is to upgrade the OS. Doing that will usually make the problem worse.
When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
          SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

How do you setup HDMI audio with "Nvidia Quadro 4000 for Mac"?

So I just purchased a new Mac Pro:
Mac Pro (5,1) 3.33 GHz 6-Core
8 GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 5770
1TB HDD
OS 10.8.3
I also purchased a new Nvidia Quadro 4000 for Mac Graphics Card because the 3D animation software I'm using (Blender) requires this card to accelerate render times.
I have installed the card and all is working well as far as I can tell except for the HDMI audio. According to the specs on Nvidia for this card, it DOES support HDMI audio through the Display port. I have my HDMI cable plugged up and the video works great. However the audio option does not show up in the System Preferences. (Here is the page for the graphics card. Look under "specifications" at the bottom for the audio part. http://www.nvidia.com/object/product-quadro-4000-mac-us.html).
I did find a link for a kernel addition for HDMI audio but it stated "non-Apple Nvidia cards" and this one is specifically for Mac. Here is that link: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1499797. (I also plan on posing the same question there.)
The reason I want the HDMI to work is I'm using a TV as my monitor.
Now I did try the HDMI with the ATI Card and both the audio and video work great.
What I did for a quick work around is install both cards and use the GPU processor on the Nvidia for the animation program and use the ATI for the actual port and this fixes the hdmi audio issue. However this takes up pretty much all of my PCI slots and seems like a waste of space and power.
Has anyone else run into this problem and found a solution?? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I went ahead and tried that extension that I found. It worked!
I guess Mac just didn't include the audio support in the driver that it includes. Below is were I found the instructions and download. It includes a shell script that installs the kernal from the Terminal prompt. The instructions were clear and installed with out a hitch. There were also instructions to remove it if there were issues.
