Premiere Pro Training for a Newb?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm pretty new here. Anybody have any suggestions on PPro training for a complete newb?
I have PPro 4 Classroom In A Book, but have only made it to the part where I actually imported some video from my camera. It was a
very exciting first time experience. It helped that I had to build a computer from the ground up, and I had multiple problems and many trips to the store..As the video was being captured by the computer I must have said "I can't believe it" 20 times.
Special thanks to Harm for the write-ups on building a computer and tuning Vista. Fabulous stuff!
Is the Lynda.com training any better than the Classroom in a Book title?
Thanks,
BrianH.

Hi Brian. I personally found the Lynda.com "essential training" a great way of learning the basics (this was probaby back in Premiere Pro 2 days)  I didnt get on to well with the classroom in a book kind of training - prefer to 'see' it.  One thing I will say though is that there is no substitute for doing it yourself. If you simply watch the videos it does not stick (for me).  So get a few projects going and just try to do stuff.  The forum is great for the questions too - and no one seems to mind (too much) when a question is asked that has been answered many times before.  The premiere wicki site (think Eddie runs it) is also great for getting up to speed - and further. Have fun

How to download Adobe Premiere pro CS5 for windows to my new imac 27 inch

IMHO Windows would be the place to start.
Why do you want to load CS5 for Windows?
Adobe does produce a version of CS5 that runs on OS X so that it would not be necessary for you to have to screw around with Windows. Personally that would be the way to go and avoid the hassles of Windows.

  • How to transfer the content of the video to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 for editing ?

    Hi there,
I have an old video camera that is still working. That video camera uses a Hi 8 tape. The tape is bigger that the current DV tape. The size of the tape is something like a tape cassette.
How to transfer the content of the video to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 for editing ? Being an old video camera, the output doesn't have any firewire or USB connector. In fact the only output is has is the Yellow, Red & while connector (is this referred to as composite).
So, how do I input this Yellow, Red & White cable into the PC (or rather into Adobe Pro CS3) ?
Any established hardware/convertor to recommend ?
    Thanks

    Ryan,
For "composite out," only you will need an A-D "bridge" to Capture from that camera. Grass Valley/Canopus offers two really good ones, the ADVC-110 and the ADVC-300. There are others and also PCI A-D capture cards, but the Canopus units get very good reviews.
One other workflow would be to hook your older camera to a digital video camera with passthrough (not all have this and it is being discontinued fairly rapidly in consumer cameras) and then doing the Capture through that digital video camera via FireWire. You will not have Device Control, but can easily start/stop via the mouse and one hand on the switches, or on a remote.
    Good luck,

  • Playback Lag in Premiere Pro CS6 for Mac

I'm editing a project in Premiere Pro CS6 for Mac, and the playback is really laggy. Its fine if you're viewing one long clip, but it gets really laggy when it switches between clips. The sound will play, but the playback screen will be frozen on the last frame from the previous clip. I use the latest thin model of the iMac. Can anybody help me?

    >Premiere Pro CS6 with the 6.0.0 update
Is there a specific reason you have not applied the bug fix updates?
All Adobe updates start here and select product, read to see if you need to install
updates in number order, or if the updates are cumulative for the individual product

Also, only having one hard drive means your computer is having to "struggle" with file operations
An EXAMPLE concerning trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the
orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do
Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct
the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with
your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another
very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more on partitions) with Windows (or Mac OS)
and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is
not slowed down by trying to do everything
External eSata or USB3 are both fast enough for video editing... eSata is better -

Do not try to use USB2 for video editing, it is too slow

Not sure what you are asking. A download is a download. what you do with the file afterwards is entirely up to you. If you mean to install Mac software on Win, then no, this can't be done. Furthermore you also would have to have a proper Win serial.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 keyboard shortcuts for Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for Windows

Attached is the file that contains the Final Cut Pro 7 keyboard shortcut set for Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for Windows.
This file was mistakenly left out of the Premiere Pro CS5 installer, so people who tried to switch to this keyboard shortcut set were unable to do so.
Unzip the file and then install the .kys file by copying it here:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5\Keyboard Shortcuts\en_US
(where C:\ may be replaced by the a different volume if you installed somewhere other than the C drive, and en_US may be replaced by another locale ID)
This file was included in the Premiere Pro CS5.5 installer, so manually installing this file is only necessary for Premiere Pro CS5.
For information about keyboard shortcuts, including how to customize them, see this page:
    "Keyboard shortcuts"

By the way, Mac users don't need to update this file, it's for Windows users only.

  • Are the texture presets and images available in Adobe Premiere Pro free for commercial use?

Are the texture presets and images available in Adobe Premiere Pro free for commercial use (in this case, an image of a film reel is being used on a book cover)?

What the other users have said is correct. Premiere captures through FireWire or through SDI/HDMI via a 3rd party solution.
For your situation I would say the best bet is to connect you camera to your computer via USB or use a card reader and copy the entire directory to your hard drive and ingest into Premiere via Media Browser.

  • Does anyone know how to put 6 windows in premiere pro cc  for multi cameras,  for 6 cameras actually

Does anyone know how to put 6 wndows in premiere pro cc for multi cameras, for 6 cameras actually.

The workflow that Jim spelled out is for doing what's called a "multi-cam edit." This allows you to conveniently switch among different video clips, often from multiple cameras that shot the same performance or event. The end result is a segment where only one clip is visible at a time.
The way I read your question, what you want to do is show six clips all at once, which is typically referred to "picture in picture." To do that, follow the first 3 steps Jim provided. (By the way, in Step 2, the key is to stack the clips on six different tracks, as opposed to lining them up head-to-tail.) Then select each clip in turn and use the Position and Scale controls in the Effect Controls Panel to shrink it and move it where you want within the frame. Here's a tutorial video on this workflow: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/adobe-beginner-classes-with-dennis-radeke/episode-7-adobe-premie re-pro-picture-in-picture/.

  • Export from premiere pro cs4 for youtube - new error message from youtube

I wonder if anyone has had a similar problem to me.
    I am using CS4 on a windows 7 computer.
I have a number of films that I am in the proces of exprting for upload to youtube.
Since youtube has updated the design and function of it's upload window I am now getting a warning once the upload completes saying "The video that you uploaded may have audio/video sync issues. Please refer to this article for advice on how to correct this issue should it arise."
The link takes you to a page which gives you a range of settings. It suggest Quicktime as the preferred format with H.264 encoding.
But in Adobe media encoder cs4 if I select format: quicktime, there is no h264 option.
I have tried selecting Format: H264 and the apparently obvious Youtube widescreen HD format, but still get the warning. Our footage is all PAL so I normally change this from NTSC to PAL - but even if I do not make this change, I still get the warning.
I wondered if anyone else has discovered this, and if they have found a work around?
    Any suggestion would be appreciated.
    I am using:
    adobe media encoder 4.2.0.006
    adobe premiere pro 4.2.1
Finally, in terms of the warning, I do not generally notice sync issues, but occasionally I giet visual glitches once the film is uplaoded to youtube - the latest involved the whole bottom half of the screen being smudged, as though someone had smeared the image from the middle down to the bottom of the screen. It only lasted about half a second.
    Thanks
    Patch

Hi Jim, you are quite right... that is what it says.
It is just that when I export a movie using premiere pro, and upload it I get a warning message from youtube. I never like a warning, so I followed the link to the article hoping for a solution.
I assumed the article indicated youtube's preferred format, so thought 'great, I'll use that- but could not find them in Premiere Pro.
As you point out it does say it is for iMovie, Final Cut Pro or Quicktime (so my mistake).
As Ann suggests, as the film looks ok on youtube, I will just carry on using the youtube settings in Premiere Pro, and ignore the warning.
    Thanks for the sugestions,

  • Premiere Pro CS3 for Mac timeline encoder application options

What options (Procoder-like) do I have for Mac Premiere Pro CS3 timeline encoding? Appreciate any application suggestions.

I understand that you get more options on the Win Platform. If your
looking for a specific option that you intend to use alot, then you will
certainly want to factor that in when you make your OS choice.
But just having lots of options in itself is not, in itself, a good
reason to base your choice on. The Mac platforms tend to be more
quicktime based, but your encoding options are varied allowing you to
create delivery formats for a range of end users, from tiny Ipod size
video to lossless formats that most any other platform will handle with
no difficulty. Of course you have the standard DVD export routines, and
you also have flash video export routines.
For import concerns, I have found a program called Visual Hub to be
quite useful in conversions. I've found it to be able to quickly convert
most everything I throw it at, specifically those xvid and divx file
that tend to be problematic for NLE's on both platforms.

  • Is Premiere Pro right for me?

I'm finally taking the plunge and wish to create videos for use on my own company website and also for clients. Is premiere pro the right choice for me? My videos don't need to have spectacular effects but I'm looking into Adobe first because the end result has to look professional. Am I in the right forum for this question?

    Thanks for the reply able
I've got a Sony Cyber Shot for short video clips and as I envision it right now most of my videos will be marketing pieces for my own use and on behalf of clients. I'd like to have videos explaining my own products which are marketing programs so obviously i'm quite sure I can get the message across in video sooo much quicker and with greater concentration than text. I plan to use short clips of myself with screenshots and slides
    My website is www.earlyoftennow.com
Sort of figured the Adobe folks or someone like yourself might come along to direct me.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 for Broadcast ProRes HQ Frame rate issues

I switched from Avid to work on a quick project with DSLR footage shot on the 5D Mark III at 29.97 psf which is not to be confused with 29.97i, a standard frame rate necessary for broadcast.   So the commercial spot was cut together, I punched in the proper settings (the very same settings that work with Avid 6.0+ and Final Cut Pro 7), and hit export.  When exporting either a Quicktime Animation or Pro Res file from Premiere Pro CS6, premiere creates a file with a faulty framerate, it comes out as 28.4 instead of 29.97.  I thought I was going crazy, but no, there are tons of documented experiences with 23.94 being 20-something, and on an on.  It seems as if Adobe did not do a good enough job with integrating the Pro Res codec into their software.  The only way I could get around it was to export to something else (Blu-ray H.264 at 29.97), and then re-encode that file to Pro Res HQ with either compressor or adobe media encoder.   The problem lies in exporting progressive footage as interlaced, it just completely screws up the frame rate.    The worst bit is that, I need Pro Res HQ for the distribution house for the commercial spots, they require the ProRes HQ MOV at 29.97i and if anything is off, I get charged for it.
Does anyone else have problems with Adobe Premiere lacking on the professional end? Or similar experience with this problem?
Just do a search for pro res frame rate issue premiere and you will see a lot of other users with the same issue.

  • CS6 Premiere Pro - settings for Canon HV30 ?

I had used that camera under Windows on CS3, then CS4.
I unfortunately purchased CS6 for Mac and got the same issue over and over again - wasting hours trying to capture. Tried it on two Macs (one using OS X Lion 10.7.4, the other Mountain Lion 10.8.4).
On the Lion machine, no matter which capture setting I chose, I get a crash of Premiere Pro as soon as I just even try to playback the tape (controlled through PPro).
On ML machine, I get the message : '' Adobe encxountered a serious error and need to close(......)''
The camera shows ''HDV'' on top of the screen, then on left of screen ''HDB/DV''.
I tried many of the possible options. I tried chosing DV, then HDV - then when the capture setting page opens, I tried most (what appear logical) settings. Even the Canon XF settings. Tried 720p, 1080i30, 1080p30, name it... Still getting the same damn result (no-result) all the times.
My only solution is to use a Windows 8 machine and capture under PPro CS4... then transfer to a Mac to edit the work.  Not a very good use of time... nor of an investment in CS6.
I am going through Firewire 400 in both cases.  And yep, the FW interfaces have been used with other devices - proving the interface is not at cause here.
From what I read in these forums, Canon (but also other cams) are causing such headaches. I'm out of ideas here.  I also read about others that seem to have had success with this same cam. Wonder how you did it (if any of you reads this).
Thanks for any hint or help.
    Rob

    Ann,
thank you for this: i already tried most of this shopping list
As for the setting change: I always turn the cam off before changing setting in Adobe. Changes nothing on the cam directly.
By the way (and so to cut it short on the FW connector, cable and so on on the physical side): i can capture freely and eithout a glitch with iMovie, a $19 application...   Something to get me even happier to have paid the big price for the Adobe full fledge rig....

  • How to better improve the playback efficiency of HD videos on Premiere Pro CC for low-end computers?

    Title explains it all really!
The playback of selected files on the upper left and right box are glitchy and slow when playing back, which makes it near impossible (or just really frustrating) to properly sync with other video clips and audio.
On lower-end video editing programs, the solution I made for this was applying Speed Change effect, but not adjusting the speed by keeping it at 100.
Details of my computer are : AMD E-350 Processor; 1.60 GHz, 3 GB RAM, Windows Vista 64bit
    Thanks in advance

Win7 64bit will use almost all of your 3Gig of ram to load, leaving almost nothing to run PPro
