Premiere project will not open

The night before, I went to save my project in Premiere but was taking to long to finish saving. I went to be and when I woke up it had crashed while it was still saving and was no longer responding. I had to close off Premiere, but now it will not open. I think the project file is too big. While most other Premiere projects I have range from around 1-500 Mb, this file is 6.6 Gb. Is there something I can delete outside of the unopenable project that will reduce the size of this file? What can I do to get this project back up and running as soon as possible.
-I'm working off of a Mac with 8 Gb memory and a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor.

The Auto-save files also crash the same way the main project file crashes. I get a serious error message that I can't read fully because it disappears as soon as it pops up. Attempting to import the project with a new project also crashes Premiere and gives me the same serious error message.

  • Adobe Premiere CS3 will not open!

Adobe premiere CS3 will not open.  When I click on the Adobe icon on my desktop, I get this message:  This application has failed to start because prm.dll was not found.  I've tried several things such as:  uninstalling the program then reinstalliing it.  I tried to open Adobe by clicking on one of my projects by opening MY Computer from start on the taskbar, then click on c drive, etc. but it will not open.  Before I started getting the error message stated above, when I clicked on the icon, the program would load to the point of showing the top portion of the page (file, edit, etc.) then stop.  It would never fully load.  HELP!!!!!   I'm in the middle of trying to meet several deadlines.

First, search your system for every instance of prm.dll. See if you have one (could be corrupt, but a Repair Install should have repaired it) in your PrPro CS3 folder hierarchy. Do you have any more? How do the dates and sizes compare to the one, if there is one, in PrPro? Here is a LINK to a .dll site. I do not know this site, so cannot even comment on their .dll's. I'd do the first suggestion, well - first.
Also, I do not know this .dll. It could be a VST from an Audio editing program, or similar. Some of these have been known to bring PrPro to its knees, at launch. Might be worthwhile to check into it a bit more.
Also, take a look at Event Viewer. This ARTICLE will give you some tips on what to look for. Could be more happening, than the error message might lead one to believe.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premier Pro Project: Created on one External Hard Drive, Transferred to Different External Hard Drive, Project Will Not Open

Here is my problem listed in simple steps:
I created a project in Premier a couple years ago on a G-Raid mini external hard drive.
I backed up my project folder on a LaCie external hard drive.
The G-Raid mini hard drive died.
I cannot open my project from the LaCie drive.
When I attempt to open my project, I get 2 error messages:
First:  "The scratch disks are write protected or unavailable. To open this project, the scratch disks will be set to your documents folder. Would you like to continue?"
    I say "Yes"
Second: "This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."
I say "OK", and that's the end.
My understanding is that the problem has to do with the fact that my original scratch disks were created on the G-Raid mini hard drive, and that Premier will not open my project because the code for my .prproj file directs Premier to a hard drive that is not connected.  I have tried to edit the code in TextEdit, replacing the name of the old hard drive with the new one where the code reads:
    <project.settings.lastknowngoodprojectpath>
This did not work.  I also tried changing the name of my new hard drive to match what the "lastknowngoodprojectpath" reads as in the code, but that did not work either.  I have searched high and low on the internet for someone who approaches the types of error messages I receive from the perspective of trying to open the project from a different hard drive, but I cannot find anyone who is specifically giving advice about this.  Any suggestions?

I doubt that the error concerning the sequence preview preset file or codec has anything to do with the scratch disc location.
Here are two posts specific to the second error message:

  • Project will not open....help!

I have Premiere pro cs3....I have several projects I am editing all of which will open with no problem. One of my main projects that I have been working on for the last 3 months will not open! I closed it last night after working on it most of the day yesterday. Premiere shows the project loading bar all looks ok...then Premiere shuts down...no warning dialogue nothing....just back to the windows desktop.....I have tried opening previous versions from auto-save with the same results...tried deleting the media cache with no result....any ideas anyone? I really dont want to start the whole project from scratch
    thanks for any help
    steve

Close your project. Rename the folder with your source clips so as to "hide" them from PPro. Open your project and select "offline all" when PPro asks where the clips are. Does your project load?
    Cheers

  • Project will not open. blank screen after load

I have a pretty major issue, I just finished a rough cut of a feature film and I decided to change my hard drive drive letters so they were more organized. Now premiere pro 2014 (up to date version) will not open the project properly.
The file loads then it says looking for media then that goes away and it sits at a blank screen forever.

  • My iBook project will not open. It is saved as an .iba file.

I Am in the middle of making an iBook project but it will not open. It is saved as an .iba file. When I go to open it it says it can't be openEd is there anything I can do to open it?

Your post says you are using iMovie 08. In iMovie 08, a Project must be in the Movies/iMovie Projects folder of the startup drive. You can move it there in the Finder.
For Events, it sounds like the other Mac sees them. Hopefully, you moved them to the external drive from within iMovie. If so, once you move the project to the proper spot, all should be well.
If you upgrade to iMovie 09 or iMovie 11, you can have the Project files on the external drive as well.

  • Projects will not open from external drive

I have been creating and saving my projects to an external drive for sometime now. When I tried to open it recently, it recognizes the Lacie but it will not recognize the projects. When you look on the Lacie it's self all of the files are there but when clicked on they still will not open.
Please help I don't know what to do...

  • Particular mobile project will not open view mxml, run is blank

I use Flash Builder 4.6 with Air 3.6 updated adb for use with Android 4.2.2. When trying to use a develop a particular application, I encounter all manner of problems. The project contains only one mobile view, and the view will not open correctly in Flash Builder; I get an icon that the application is working, but it keeps spinning for at least 60 minutes. The project no longer runs; it just gives a blank screen.
I have all of this under revision control, and I have run the present code before, though I am not sure with what version of Air. I have tried deleting the files and reimporting them from revision control. I have deleted and reimported the project. I have killed and restarted Flash Builder and rebooted the machine.
I have submitted to get an upgrade of Flash Builder 4.7, but this is highly frustrating. I have no idea where these problems are coming from, and it's very disturbing that Flash Builder won't even open a view (which is just a text file) in the editor. Ideas?

I've upgraded to Flash Builder 4.7, and I can now work all of this out. Having a functioning editor has allowed me to find the other problems.

  • Premiere CC will not open 5.5 projects. Why?

I have puechased CC and can not open 5.5 projects. Why? Why do you offer chat when no one ever answers? Why do you spend so much time and money to avoid at all cost actually helping your customers?

It had nothing to do with it. The only thing that worked was building the C drive all over again. I whiped it clean. Then we tried to close caption, something we just got working before this happened and now of course it does not work well. We get skip frames all over the place. All the settings that fixed problems before do not seem to work. I guess this discussion was about opening a 5.5 project so I will post my problems with BMD and close captioning in a new post ( ok why did adobe call this version CC, did they not know that was the industry short form for close captioning, duh)
Claims that Pemiere CC and 5.5 cans exist on the same computer are false. Claims that Premiere CC does not need a Clean install of windows are false.
My proof, three completely different systems, System A: works but i have no avi export, System B: works but i have no avi export, System C: The system discussed above, needed to be wiped to work.
3 of 3 of these systems had previous versions of Premiere on them before Creative Cloud was installed. All 3 sytems also got that very annoying "bugs and patches update could not install" thing from the Creative cloud download ap. Why adobe can not provide a manual download for those suffing from this affliction is beyond me. To cheap i guess.

  • .prproj project will not open in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4

When I try to open .prproj file, I get the message "Where is the File <name of file>.mpeg?
    1) I have tried manually finding the .mpeg file and double-clicking on it. This displays the error: "File Import Failure 'Unsupported format or damaged file.'"
    2) I have also tried selecting the "Skip" and "Skip All" buttons. In this case, Adobe Premiere .prproj opens but none of videos appear. Instead there is a red screen saying "Media Offline"
What is causing these issues? Why am not able to select the unfindable files and, more importantly, why can I not open the .prproj project. ANy insight would be greatly appreciated!
    ThankS

  • Projects Will Not Open

Ok, I will start this sad story from the beginning. When I returned home from Xmas holiday I found my hard drive crashing. I took my Mac and all my software disk to a guy that has always done me right and he began to salvage what he could off the failing hard drive. He was able to get off about 4 movies. I have taped my kids’ life since 1999, so I lost a lot.
When I got my computer back (with new hard drive) I opened the movies that I have and they ran fine in iMovie and QuickTime. Yesterday I sat down to begin the process of rebuilding my movie library from DV tapes I have. I imported about 4min. of movie into a new project, saved closed and went to open one of the few old projects I had to look at it again and I got an error 'could not open the project you chose'. I had just opened this same project about an hour ago. I then went to open one of the other old projects and it opened fine. So I went to open the new project that I had just started and it gave me the same message 'could not open the project you chose'. So at this point I am confused, I go to open the old project that I just viewed and now it gave me the message 'could not open the project you chose'. Then I go to the files under Movies. I see that the projects all have their 3 files (Project file, Media, and .mov). I then double click on the .mov files and QuickTime opens and plays them fine. So I go into the Media folder and drag media files to QuickTime and it opens and plays fine. Then I drag the project files to iMovie and I get the message 'could not open the project you chose'.
I then open iMovie by starting a new project, because one by one my old movie projects have gone from working to not working. I build a new project and save it after a few clips. I close iMovie and then open it and wow it opens with the new project I just built. Now I am confused, I add a few new clips then close iMovie. I reopen iMovie and get the message 'could not open the project you chose'.
So over several hours and several new projects iMovie has failed to make a project that will open, and it has opened and then destroyed my old projects. Again I can dump the .mov file or the individual clips into QuickTime and they play fine.
    I am using QuickTime 7.04
    iMovie 3.0.3
And I am not sure if this is the version that I built the old movies in (remember they played some in 3.0.3 for awhile then broke???)
And now I have even a bigger problem, I deleted iMovie 3.0.3 to reinstall it from my Panther disk I have and I cannot find a way to install iMovie from my disk. So now I have several broken movies that have always worked fine in the past. And I cannot make any new ones because I now have no iMovie.
I am not an expert at this stuff, but over the last 7 years I have made about 80 10 to 20 min. videos and never had a problem until this HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
    Can anyone help?

You seem to have a lot of different problems on your hand.
First of all, don't you have the original tapes? (You should keep them, you know.)
Second, don't you have any backups? Have you ever thought of fire, theft, flooding, hurricanes, ligthning, tornadoes. Or even "mundane" things as a crashed hard drive? You should have at least one full, verfied backup off site.
Anyway, how is your hard drive formatted? (It must be Mac OS Extended)
    http://danslagle.dvmix.com/mac/iMovie/usage/5006.shtml
iMovie 3 is so full of bugs, it's amazing you managed to use it for so many years. See if you can get your hands on an iLife '04 package.
iMovie was never part of the Panther discs. It may have been part of your (usually gray) software restore discs you got with your Mac.
Hope this help to at least get you started recovering.
    Post back with your findings.
