Premiere Elements9

  • What file converter should i use?

    I have a sony Handycam DCR-SR68,
im not exactly sure what the format records in, im guessing MPEG,
the software that came with this was PMB, not to crazy about it, so using PMB to convert the file it only says WMV, and premiere elements9 wont work with it, it makes it way to slow and messes up the program for me.
What file should i convert this to? and what would be the best way to convert,
i would rather try to stay away from downloading things, but if i have to download a converter i will, i would just prefur to find out if i could of converted it with adobe or maybe even windows (i have Windows 7)
This will really help me out,

Actually, PrE should handle the MPEG-2 files with Get Media>Harddrive Camera.
There should be no real need to convert the files, though obviously you have a highly compressed format/CODEC, so motion (camera, or subject) might not be the greatest. No conversion progarm can recoup the data, prior to compression.
    Good luck,

  • Efficient workflow

Im am looking for an effiient workflow. Everything is up and running but it is soooo slow in reality. I'm shooting with an Xacti  HD2000. So far I have been shooting at "full-SHQ" 1920x1080 60fps HR. My problem is slow performance in premiere elements running on my MAC. I have got the suggestion to use MPEG Streamclip to convert to a more efficient format and with "intermediate codec" but I don't know how! In the end, I wish to publish to HD TV, mediacenter etc. As it is underwater videos  and I am just a beginner my quality demands are not extreem.  So my questions, What is the best workflow for me? If I should use MPEG Streamclip, what are the right settings in my case? How should I use Organizer? Should I reduce the resolution already in the camera? I have tried to get answers in many different forums but without any luck so far! PS I am using Premiere elements9 DS  Br Bo

I would have though that a USB external drive would be much slower than an internal drive? Have you compared the specs?
A USB external IS much slower than an internal. Even if the contained HDD in the external housing is 7200 RPM, the connection is much slower. Against a SATA II internal, it will be at best about 4x slower, and is more likely to be more like 10x slower. This is one reason that USB externals can be plagued with read/write errors - the OS and the program (PrE in this case), are shoving a lot of data, and demanding a lot of data, and the OS is expecting things to go smoothly and quickly. It has a certain amount of Buffers, but these can be used up quickly, and when that happens, one gets a read/write failure, or error. The dreaded Delayed Write Failure can even corrupt the entire external, as necessary structures file/folder do not get written at all. So, besides having to wait for data transfer, the very data are subject to being lost forever. Even a pretty slow computer will outstrip the ability of the USB external to keep up the pace. FW-400 (IEEE-1394a) is faster, less prone to read/write errors, but is still very slow, compared to an internal SATA II. FW-800 (IEEE-1394b) gets closer, and eSATA is virtually as fast as that SATA II internal. In real-world terms, one will not be able to see/experience a difference. There will be a slight difference, but it would be measured in times that a user could not detect.
USB externals are great, when just archiving material. There, one only has either the read, or the write, and also the program is not also reading and writing at the same time.
I do not have any experience with USB 3.0's, but the tests that I have seen indicate that they are still much slower in real-world terms, than an internal SATA II, regardless of what the published specs. are. I would stick to SATA II internals, or eSATA externals, with FW-800 externals coming in third.

  • 5.1 audio?

HI, im new to premiere elements9 and my first time on a forum, Please help.
I have imported my video from my sony HDR-PJ10, with my project settings as Full HD 1080i 25 5.1 channel.
It shows 5.1 on the left in audio on my time line and i can see all 6 levels in the audio mixer working.
i have burnt my project to a DVD.
Why does my Sony DVD recorded/player (RDR-HDC100) not recognise it as 5.1 audio? Am i doing something wrong?

It has been awhile, since I read those two workflows completely, but think that each uses freeware to get to a DD 5.1 SS AC3 file.
Now, what I am totally uncertain on, is whether one can then use that resultant DD AC3 in PrE. Because the DVD authroring function in PrE is limited and also semi-automatic, with few options to make any changes, I would assume that one would need to use another authoring app. to use the resultant DD 5.1 SS AC3. Many here swear by Sony's DVD Architect, but I have never used it. Steve Grisetti has written a book on Sony DVD Architect, and also has several articles on it in his Learning Series at Muvipix.com. Perhaps he, or another DVD Architect user, can fill in that blank. My DVD workflow is extremely limited: edit in PrPro, use the SurCode DD 5.1 SS encoder plug-in, take the DD AC3 into Encore, where I Burn to Disc. Encore handles DD 5.1 SS in pass-through mode only, so no DD 5.1 SS monitoring, though I do that in PrPro, when creating. The same for DTS, and Pro-Logic supplemental Audio Streams - I encode those with the various SurCode encoders (both are stand-alones, so I have to Export from PrPro, then Import into each). Again, Encore does this, but only in pass-through mode.
Wish that I had more precise instructions for you, when using PrE, but I do not. Before you run out and buy Sony's DVD Architect, I would check on it's capabilities to author with DD AC3 5.1 SS. As Sony is a certified Dolby Labs company, I would assume that it's DVD Architect can work with DD 5.1 SS, but just do not know, nor do I now how.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Why is my installation of Elements 9 not installing elements9.exe?

To eliminate problems resulting from efforts to move from Elements 7 to Elements 9 on a new computer I have removed Elements 9 and reinstalled.  Reinstalling from the backup disk that came with the computer I am not getting the file elements9.exe.  Editor.exe works (if opened from the directory), but the other is nowhere to be found.  Any suggestions?

I may have discovered the source of my problem.  Trying to get past what seemed to be oddities in the s/w I uninstalled and reinstalled the program 3 or 4 times.  Yesterday I noticed a post by someone complaining that his Adobe s/w said he could install it on only two computers (he had 3), that it would install on only two.
No warnings came with the s/w on my new computer; perhaps I unknowingly exceded a limit—the s/w wouldn't know that my installations were all on the same system.  Since I can find no way to talk to Adobe, maybe there's no solution other than to try moving my old Elements and Premiere Elements 7 to the new system.

  • Premiere Elements nine questions

Hi, i just downloaded elements9, and im new to adobe software and everytime i put a video into the section at the bottem, the video lags a lot and slows down the whole program, the file the videos are in are WMV, does it need another format? i dont know if this is something that'll pass or what but i'd love to get an answer soon,
also, while im still on here,
i looked threw the "Help" section for beginners, it's not exactly all that helpful, can someone send a video please on the basics of what im doing?
i can pick up on things easy but i need to know how to start all this from a new project and all the way to converting it to a file for youtube,

I would not recommend using WMVs as your source video. They'll bog the whole program down.
What kind of camcorder is your video coming from? There's probably a much more efficient workflow that won't require nearly so much rendering.
Meantime, if you're looking to learn this basics of this program, check out my free 8-part Basic Training tutorials at Premiere Elements support site Muvipix.com.
And, if you'd like more detailed, step-by-step instruction, you can check out my books.

Follow their very important instructions EXACTLY or you will likely encounter authorisation errors or download the latest version instead.
You will need your serial number (available in 'My Products' on your Adobe A/c if you registered the software). If you don't have the serial number, then you are out of luck as it will only install as a thirty day trial.

I think that the key here is going from a 32 bit to 64 bit computer operating system where Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13 can become 64 bit application in a Windows 7 or 8.1 64 bit computer operating system. The increased computer resources implication of that should increase the frequency of getting the larger project taken to a successful complete more than before. A lot of this has to do with multitasking potential.
Premiere Elements does not support CUDA as seen in high end video cards/graphics cards. Since Premiere Elements 9, Premiere Elements has no GPU accelerated effects. But, I would decide on the best card for you based on overall computer rather than just for use in Premiere Elements. If you are interested in computer games, that will impact your card decision.
The use of a non super NVIDIA or ATI card should work for you. But, I have used neither.
I would consider more installed RAM, depending on your computer motherboard slots.
You might want to discuss the choice of the card with NVIDIA.

    I suspect that
My desktop and laptop computer both use the integrated Intel HD Graphics where my strengths included installed RAM, free hard drive space, and computer processor.

  • Installed Premiere Pro CS4 but video display does not work?

I just got my copy of CS$. After installing Premiere I found two things that seem very wrong:
    1) video display does not work, not even the little playback viewer next to improted film clips located on the project / sequence window. Audio works fine.
    2) the UI is way too slow for my big beefy system.
My pc is a dual boot Vista-32 and XP system with 4GB of memory installed and nvidia geforce 280 graphics board with plenty of GPU power. The CS4 is installed on the Vista-32 partition. My windows XP partition on the same PC with Premiere CS2 works great and real fast.
Any ideas how to solve this CS4 install issue?
    Ron

I would like to thank Dan, Hunt, and Haram:
The problem is now very clear to me. The problem only shows up with video footage imported into PP CS4 encoded with "MS Video 1" codec. So this seems to be a bug. The codec is very clearly called out and supported within various menues but video with this codec just will not play in any monitor or preview window. In addition the entire product looks horrible with respect to performance while PP CS4 trys its best to play the video. Audio will start playing after about 30 seconds. And once in awhile part of video shows up at the wrong magnification before blanking out again.
My suggestion to the Adobe team: fix the bug and add some sample footage to the next release so new installations can test their systems with known footage.

  • Is there a way to create and edit a video in portrait mode / 9:16 in Premiere Elements 12 or 13. Playback on an iPhone in portrait position.

I'm editing iPhone app video for posting as the first screen in the Apple app store. Required size for the video is 750:1334, 9:16. I there a way to setup the initial video in portrait mode? Many posts for how to rotate a specific clip, but I need the whole video in portrait position. How to accomplish this? I'm using Windows 7 and Premiere Elements 12 and now 13.

    LaurieFrick
Thanks for giving this portrait Edit area monitor shape a look.
I have Windows 7 64 bit and Windows 8.1 64 bit and have done the work using Premiere Elements 12/12.1 on Windows 7 64 bit.
Here is a step by step
Find the DSLR [email protected] file
    Local Disk C\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 12\Settings\SequencePresets\NTSC\DSLR\1080p\
And, in that 1080p Folder is the DSLR 1080p30@ 29.97.sqpreset file that you seek.
    1. Copy the
    DSLR 1080p30@ 29.9.sqpreset fileI
and paste it to the computer desktop in a newly created folder named 1920p.
    2. Open the 1920p Folder and edit the ..sqpreset file in Notepad.
To do that right click the .sqpreset, and, from the pop up, select Open With and then Notepad.
    3. In the Notepad document, you are going to edit in only 2 places for now, switching 1920 and 1080 to 1080 and 1920 at the top and bottom
    sections of the Notepad document.
Then go specifically File Menu/Save of the Notepad document and hit Save.
    4. At this point, you have the edited.sqpreset file in the 1920p Folder on the computer desktop.
(Change the name of the edited .sqpreset file so that it = DSLR [email protected])
Move the 1920p Folder from there to add it to the 1080p Folder, the location where you found the original .sqpreset file that you edited.
    Close out of there.
    5. Back in the Premiere Elements 12/12.1, manually set the project preset to the new project preset
    6. When you import your 1080 x 1920 9:16 video file into the project and drag it into the Timeline, you should see
Note that there is no orange line over that Timeline content, indicating that you are seeing
the best possible preview of the image.
    7. As I wrote before,
But, here is the hang up. If I render the Timeline content to get the best possible preview at the Edit level, the video in the Edit area monitor
squeezes in resulting in black borders to the left and right of the video image on screen.
But, otherwise I found I had no problems editing or exporting, just had to keep away from Timeline rendering for previewing after an edit. Need to find the missing ingredient for 100%.
I will be writing this up in my blog in a more organized fashion including how I got the project preset description in Change Settings to agree with the changes. Probably I will do that in the morning.

  • At a complete impasse: Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere...

Until I downloaded the most recent version of Premiere Pro CC (7.2.2) everything was great.  Now Premiere won't work for me no matter what I try.  Keep's shutting down hard.  Even with brand new projects, if I wait a while it will crash.  I've tried reinstalling the application.  I've tried holding down the shift key at startup.  Nothing seems to help.  The problems all started when I renamed a file it was looking for.  After trying to figure out how to point Premiere to the new file, I abandoned it and renamed it to what it was looking for.  It's been crashing ever since.  I've created 6 or 8 new versions, but all crash.  HELP!  I've got a pressing deadline and can't get past this.  I'm running it on a Mac w/10.8.5.

    Hi Patsy,
A few things to try for your crashing issue:
    Trash preferences
Make sure the System Preferences > Language & Text is set to English
Have an AMD GPU? Certain applications, like DaVinci Resolve install CUDA drivers, even if you have AMD GPUs. This can cause issues with Premiere Pro. See this blog post.
Sign out from the Creative Cloud application and then Sign in
If you have a NVIDIA GPU, update CUDA drivers in System Preferences > CUDA
These are things that have solved similar issues for other customers. If none of these things work, send me a PM and I'll escalate your issue.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

Many of us have encounted this issue. The problem is not confined to a particular version or computer operating. Many homemade remedies and scientific ones have worked for some and not others. The most recent fix was offered by an ID by the name of Maud Barbara and seems to have been the answer for that user and at least one more.
Maud Barbara's fix can be found at the end of the very long thread on the subject found

    Hello
I had the same problem as you and I just d have the solution:
    go to C / program files (86) / common files/OOBE
    Rename OOBE by OLDOOBE

    You can reinstall the software
What worked for me in this case was none of the above. How I and others navigated this installation problem is documented in the thread cited.
